ACHIEVING SUCCESS IN SPORT AND EDUCATION For over 20 years, UTS Sport has been committed to assisting athletes in their desire to combine high performance sport participation with a tertiary education. Over the years, UTS Sport has supported Olympians, World and National Champions. In 2018, we supported the largest number of athletes to date, providing scholarships to over 200 elite and emerging athletes across 35 different sports, including Olympians, World Champions, World University Championship, National and State level representatives. Following the principles of the Elite Athlete Friendly University (EAFU) Network, our program has an overriding objective to assist our student athletes in combining highperformance sport and a tertiary education. UTS Sport, via the UTS Elite and Emerging Athlete Program can help you achieve this, providing enrolment flexibility, cross-institutional study options, guidance in negotiating with lecturers and in arranging leave of absence for representative travel commitments.

In order to assist students with this balancing act, a funding program established by ActivateUTS via UTS Sport provides support to high achievers in a wide range of sporting pursuits through the UTS Elite and Emerging Athlete Program. < NSW Swifts < A ustralian U21 Youth World Cup Team < NSW Swifts Player's Player I first heard about the UTS Elite Athlete Program through students who were already on the Program at UTS. I applied so I could receive assistance whilst still pursuing my sporting career. The Program gives me the flexibility to attend all my sessions without missing any classes through timetable flexibility for my assessments. The financial grants also relieve the pressure of trying to find time to work. Being a part of the Program really helped me to make the most of my spare time with extra study and training and I was able to secure a full-time contract with the NSW Swifts. Thanks to the UTS EAP I’m able to better manage my time with Uni and Netball and do my best at both.

< Australian Universities Rugby 7s Player of the Tournament

< Parramatta Eels < N RL Academic Team of the Year

< A ustralian Rugby 7s representative – Sevens World Series

< C ity VS Country Origin Team

< 3-time DHL Impact Player award – Sevens World Series

I first heard about the Program from UTS staff when enquiring about studying at UTS.

< 2018 Commonwealth Games

After reading about the EAP I was really impressed with the support it provides athletes to manage their sporting commitments and their studies. The Program was a major factor in my decision to study at UTS.

I heard about the EAP through a student and friend who was actually already in the program. I applied as I knew that my rugby would be taking up a lot of my time and I would definitely need the help that the UTS EAP staff could provide. I am very satisfied with my experience so far, I’m currently still in the Program and any questions, problems or successes I’ve had have been answered, solved and praised! The EAP scholarship has benefited me mostly in the area of arranging classes, whether that be moving class times or the class entirely to suit my full time training demands.

The EAP makes my life so much more manageable by providing me with great tutors, organising exam and attendance flexibility and gives me access to training facilities at uni. My sporting schedule with Rugby League is one that constantly changes, so without the EAP I wouldn’t be able to cope with my study load at university.
