ACHIEVING SUCCESS IN SPORT AND EDUCATION For over 20 years, UTS Sport has been committed to assisting athletes in their desire to combine high performance sport participation with a tertiary education. In 2015, we supported the largest number of athletes to date, providing scholarships to over 200 elite and emerging athletes across 35 different sports, including Olympians, World Champions, World University Championship competitors, and National and State level representatives. pursuing both academic and sporting goals can be difficult to balance. With the right support and encouragement, we know this can be achieved. In order to assist students with this balancing act, a funding program established by ActivateUTS via UTS Sport provides support to high achievers in a wide range of sporting pursuits through the UTS Elite and Emerging Athlete Program. Program members can take advantage of a wide range of benefits, which may include: financial assistance (elite scholars), free ActivateFit gym membership (including consultation and programming), grants towards intervarsity sporting tournaments, assistance with academic matters and travel grants for international representation.

In 2016, in conjunction with UTS Housing, we will again be offering two additional scholarships that provide free accommodation at UTS Housing for one university year, to further assist participants in achieving their sporting and academic pursuits. If you are an elite or emerging athlete wanting to find the perfect balance in achieving your academic and sporting goals, then the UTS EAP is for you.

TESTIMONIALS ED DE CARVALHO MASTER OF MEDIA ARTS AND PRODUCTION • Senior Australian Men’s Lightweight Men’s Quad Scull crew, competing at the 2015 World Rowing Championships in Aiguebelette, France in August. • Multiple Open medallist at the 2015 Australian National Rowing Championships, including gold in the Open Men’s Lightweight Quad. I heard about the EAP program through friends and competitors who had been studying at UTS whilst being supported by the Program in their chosen sport. I applied to get the most out of my time whilst studying at UTS and to be supported in my sporting pursuits whilst studying. So far the EAP has been more than helpful. Without question, the support from the EAP has let me compete whilst not having to stress about being absent from class or submitting assignments at a later date.

LUCINDA WHITTY BACHELOR BUSINESS

• 2012 London Olympic Silver Medallist Sailing I first heard about the Elite Athlete Program at my very first open day and applied because I thought having the extra support through the program would help a lot with trying to manage my studies along with my sporting commitments. My experience on the program has been fantastic! I wouldn’t have been able to achieve what I have without the program. It has allowed me to be flexible with my study program whilst being overseas training or in competition. The support is amazing and definitely needed for athletes to balance their commitments.

PAT CUMMINS BACHELOR OF BUSINESS

• Youngest ODI and T20 international player in Australian history • World Cup Champion 2015 • BBL 03 champion • Champions League 2012 Champion • IPL 2014 Champion During my first year of Uni, Cricket started to get really busy and I looked online to see if there was a way to gain flexibility during my uni periods and whilst I was competing. The main reason I applied was because I spend a lot of time out of the country or the state and I needed help with timing for assignments and exams. The EAP has been extremely efficient and helpful. It has meant that I can continue studying even though I am overseas for most of the year and instead of perhaps only doing one subject per semester, I have been able to maintain up to three.

I would have not been as successful in studying or high performance sport without the support from the EAP, Aimee Purcell, the facilities at UTS and the UTS Rowing Coaches.
