ACHIEVING SUCCESS IN SPORT AND EDUCATION For over 20 years, UTS Sport has been committed to assisting athletes in their desire to combine high performance sport participation with a tertiary education. Over the years, UTS Sport has supported Olympians, World and National Champions. In 2016, we supported the largest number of athletes to date, providing scholarships to over 200 elite and emerging athletes across 35 different sports, including Olympians, World Champions, World University Championship, National and State level representatives. Following the principles of the Elite Athlete Friendly University (EAFU) Network, our program has an overriding objective to assist our student athletes in combining high-performance sport and a tertiary education. Our experience in this field means that we understand pursuing both academic and

sporting goals can be difficult to balance. With the right support and encouragement, we know this can be successfully achieved. UTS Sport, via the UTS Elite and Emerging Athlete Program can help you achieve this, providing enrolment flexibility, cross-institutional study options, guidance in negotiating with lecturers and in arranging leave of absence for representative travel commitments. In order to assist students with this balancing act, a funding program established by ActivateUTS via UTS Sport provides support to high achievers in a wide range of sporting pursuits through the UTS Elite and Emerging Athlete Program. In 2017, in conjunction with UTS Housing, we will again be offering two additional scholarships that provide free accommodation at UTS Housing

for one university year, to further assist participants in achieving their sporting and academic pursuits. Program members can take advantage of a wide range of benefits, which may include: financial assistance, free ActivateFit gym membership (including consultation and programming), grants towards intervarsity sporting tournaments, assistance with academic matters and travel grants for international representation. If you are an elite or emerging athlete wanting to find the perfect balance and achieve your academic and sporting goals, then the UTS EAP is for you.

BACHELOR OF CIVIL ENGINEERING

< NSW U21s < NSW Waratahs ANL Team < NSW Swifts Replacement Player < Australian U21s I first heard about the UTS Elite Athlete Program through students who were already on the Program at UTS. I applied so that I could receive assistance to study whilst still pursuing my sporting career. The Program gives me the flexibility to attend all my training sessions without missing any classes through timetable assistance and allows me to go away for competition and make arrangements for my assessments. The small financial grants also relieves some of the pressure of trying to find time to work. Being the recipient of the Housing scholarship for 2016, has also helped me make the most of my spare time to do extra study or training. Thanks to the UTS EAP I’m able to better manage my time with Uni and Netball and do my best at both.

UTS ELITE ATHLETE PROGRAM

< Professionally Licensed Triathlete < Ranked inside the World top 50 for Half Ironman < 2016 World University Championships I first heard about the EAP during my HSC and applied because I wanted to limit the impact that study had on my performance in Triathlon. It provided me a level of assistance where I was able to study and race at the same time. I have made a lot of friends through the Program, I have attended Uni Games, raced for UTS and helped win 4 consecutive Australian Uni Triathlon Titles, and competed in Switzerland at the World University Games. It has added flexibility and support to my study that I am very grateful for. I have used the EAP for assistance in class timetabling due to rigid squad training sessions and assignment consideration due to training camps. The added benefit of access to the Elite Athlete Private Gym on campus has also been very beneficial for fitting training in when I’m at university.

< World Cup Champion 2015 < Youngest ODI and T20 international player in Australian History < IPL 2014 Champion < BBL 03 Champion < Champions League 2012 Champion During my first year of Uni, Cricket started to get really busy and I looked online to see if there was a way to gain flexibility during my uni periods and whilst I was competing. The main reason I applied was because I spend a lot of time out of the country or the state and I needed help with timing for assignments and exams. The EAP has been extremely efficient and helpful. It has meant that I can continue studying even though I am overseas for most of the year and instead of perhaps only doing one subject per semester, I have been able to maintain up to three.
