TUESDAY

2 JUNE MOVIE AFTERNOON

WHEN: 2PM - 3PM WHERE: TURNER HALL. LEVEL 2, BUILDING B, ULTIMO COLLEGE, TAFE RINGBALIN - BREAKING THE DROUGHT

RINGBALIN TAKES US ON AN EXQUISITELY SHOT JOURNEY ALONG AUSTRALIA'S GREATEST RIVER SYSTEM: THE MURRAY-DARLING. IN 2010, AUSTRALIA WAS FACING THE WORST DROUGHT IN RECORDED HISTORY. AT THE END OF THE RIVER IN THE COORONG, NGARRINDJERI ELDER UNCLE MOOGY GREW TIRED OF WATCHING HIS ANCESTRAL HOME DIE, AND SO UNITED A GROUP OF DIFFERENT ABORIGINAL RIVER NATIONS IN A 2300 KILOMETRE PILGRIMAGE TO DANCE THE SPIRIT BACK INTO THE RIVER AND INTO THEMSELVES.

DINNER: THE 'TASTY NOT WASTY' DINNER IS AN INITIATIVE OF THE INSTITUTE OF SUSTAINABLE FUTURES (UTS) AND TAFE ULTIMO TO RAISE AWARENESS ABOUT FOOD WASTE. 3 COURSES MEAL AND DRINKS @25/PERSON.

MADE BY STUDENTS FOR STUDENTS, THE UTS STUDENTS' ASSOCIATION'S SUSTAINABLE POP UP CAFÉ IS THE PLACE TO MEET YOUR FRIENDS FOR FREE MUESLI, NATURAL YOGHURT, FRESH SOURDOUGH WITH AVOCADO AND SPREADS, JUICE, FRESH FRUIT AND FAIR TRADE TEA AND COFFEE.

EATING SKIPPY IS THE BEST THING YOU CAN DO IF YOU ARE A TRUE-BLUE AUSTRALIAN. BUT IS IT? WHAT CAN SCIENCE TELL US OF THE PLIGHT OF KANGAROOS? THIS TALK OUTLINES THE HISTORIC AND CONTEMPORARY KNOWLEDGE OF KANGAROO DISTRIBUTIONS, BIOLOGY, MANAGEMENT AND DECLINE.

COME AND JOIN THE ULTIMO TAFE LIBRARY KNITTING GROUP TO CREATE ‘ WRAP WITH LOVE’ BLANKETS USING RECYCLED WOOL TO CELEBRATE GREEN WEEK. BLANKETS WILL BE DONATED TO’ WRAP WITH LOVE’, A CHARITY WHICH DISTRIBUTES BLANKETS TO PEOPLE IN NEED IN AUSTRALIA AND OVERSEAS.

SEEDS OF TIME FOLLOWS AGRICULTURE PIONEER CARY FOWLER'S GLOBAL JOURNEY TO SAVE THE ERODING FOUNDATION OF OUR FOOD SUPPLY IN A NEW ERA OF CLIMATE CHANGE. BOTH AN ENGAGING CHARACTER STUDY AND A USEFUL INTRODUCTION TO ISSUES SURROUNDING BIODIVERSITY, SANDY MCLEOD'S SEEDS OF TIME EXPLAINS WHY SCIENTIST FOWLER THINKS IT'S SO IMPORTANT TO PRESERVE HUNDREDS OF PLANT VARIETIES THAT COMMERCIAL FARMS HAVE NO INTEREST IN GROWING

THIS DOCUMENTARY SHOWS HOW FOOD AND PLASTIC WASTE CAN BE AVOIDED, DRAWING ATTENTION TO MUCH OF THE UNNECESSARY PACKAGING THAT IS CHOKING OUR LIVES, OCEANS AND ANIMALS. IT ALSO GIVES AN INSIGHT INTO THE ENVIRONMENTAL AND SOCIAL IMPACTS OF OUR WASTEFUL WAYS.

''URBAN FARMING AND GREEN ROOFS ARE JUST ECO BLING”'' SEE THE UTS DEBATING SOCIETY TAKE ON THE UTS FACULTY OF DESIGN, ARCHITECTURE AND BUILDING IN THIS FUN AND ENTERTAINING DEBATE!
