Hi all, I hope you are having a great semester and enjoyed some well-deserved time off during the break. As we head into the warmer summer months, there are endless opportunities to get involved in life outside of the classroom. Why not sign up for a surfing lesson, grab a cold drink with your friends after class at The Loft or Glasshouse, or take part in one of the many end of semester parties organised by our clubs and societies? My time as President has now come to an end. It has been an honour and privilege to represent, lead and serve you over the past two years as a Board Director, Vice President and President. I want to take this opportunity to wish all students and staff a successful and enjoyable end to year, and best of luck for your future endeavours. Enjoy your time at uni, get out of your comfort zone, make an effort to get to know people, and don’t just look for opportunities - create them yourself. I want to leave you with an extract from one of my favourite quotes (author unknown). I challenge you to become someone who strives for excellence in all areas, but also someone who realises that life is a game of mistakes, learning opportunities and constant self-improvement. “Watch your thoughts, for they become words, Choose your words, for they become actions, Understand your actions, for they become habits, Study your habits, for they will become your character, Develop your character, for it becomes your destiny.” Thank you for the incredible opportunity I have had over the past two years, and I wish you every success for the future. Laurence Wainwright President, UTS Union

APPtastic! Unicorn Shots: A lovely little free app that lets you add goggle eyes to any photo in your library. By photo-shopping crazy eyes and silly tattoos onto your pictures, you can brighten up even the most miserable of images, forcing a smile onto the face of even the grumpiest humbug in the room! Drunk Fly: Secretly plays pre-recorded sounds to annoy the hell out of your friends as they try to locate the source of the buzzing. When they finally locate the source as not an inebriated insect, but your iPhone, a ‘You Got Me!’ screen plays. You may lose a friend or two over this one, but it’s well worth it. Etch-a-Sketch: Now there’s not a lot more fun than doodling, but if you’re an eco-warrior intent on saving the environment from the mountain of scrunched up post-its, or you just like to scribble on the go, then this app is for you. Etch-A-Sketch allows you to draw on your iPhone by using the two knobs on either side of the screen or trace with your finger, even letting you save your doodles and send them to your friends! A must have retro app.
