Health checks by Calastica Health & Wellbeing 9.30am – 3.30pm / Concourse Calastica is dedicated to improving and enhancing the health and wellbeing of individuals. An experienced team of medical professionals will be available to carry out 15 minute free health checks to UTS students and staff. The basic health checks include blood pressure, blood cholesterol, blood glucose and waist measurement, all of which can be indicators for lifestyle-related chronic diseases such as type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, stroke and some cancers. Superfoods and raw cooking with Jana Brunclikova 10am – 11am / Theatre Lounge Jana Brunclikova is a professional, fully-qualified naturopath and raw food chef. Jana currently works for one of the biggest health food stores in Sydney – ‘About Life’ in Bondi Junction and Rozelle. Her passion for holistic treatment, correcting people’s diets and lifestyle progressed into educating herself in raw food preparation and diet. In this seminar you will learn about the health benefits of raw and super food, raw food cooking techniques and from which food you get the most antioxidants, proteins, and essential oils. Jana will explain the benefits of an alkaline diet and eating greens and algae.

Falun Dafa (also called Falun Gong) is an advanced practice of self-cultivation based on the Buddha School of teachings, founded by Mr. Li Hongzhi, the practice’s master. Falun Dafa Meditation is a discipline in which “assimilation to the highest qualities of the universe – Zhen, Shan, Ren (Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance) – is the foundation of practice. Practice is guided by these supreme qualities, and based on the very laws which underlie the development of the cosmos.” Master Li’s teachings are set forth in a number of texts, among which are included Falun Gong, Zhuan Falun, The Great Consummation Way of Falun Dafa, Essentials for Further Advancement, and Hong Yin. These and other works have been translated into thirty-eight languages, and are published and distributed worldwide.

Do you feel like you want to spoil yourself but you can’t find the time when you’re busy studying day and night? Relax and let Yassage and the UTS come to the rescue. Yassage have been working with the UTS since 2007, and will be making a guest appearance at the UTS for mini massage so you can relax the mind, the head and shoulders before facing the battle of assignments and exams with a whole new relaxed frame of mind. Yassage were established in 2004, and are owned and managed by experienced professional massage therapists and beauticians. Come and join Yassage on concourse this September, they are ready to overindulge you.... are you up to the challenge?

Enjoying the benefits of weight loss with Elizabeth Denney-Wilson 11am – 12pm / Theatre Lounge In an environment filled with food and food advertising it can be hard to keep your weight in check. Elizabeth Denney-Wilson from the UTS Centre of Research Excellence in Obesity Management and Prevention will share some of the science behind eating too much and some strategies for losing weight and keeping it off.

Traditional Chinese medicine student practitioners (final intern year) can provide you with general information about your health, diet and lifestyle. According to your body condition, we can suggest acupuncture and/or herbal medicine treatment in assisting and improving your condition.

At the Quit Smoking stand you can get free assistance, advice and the opportunity to test the level of carbon monoxide in your blood. Talk to a Tobacco Treatment Specialist about anything related to smoking and quitting. Quit kits and other resources will be available on the day. Max capacity: 30 people

Hypnosis with Ann Eyres 1pm – 2pm / Theatre Lounge Ann works with hypnosis to enable her clients to make life easier by changing habits and attitudes that are negatively impacting their lives. Hypnosis works at a deeper level of awareness which allows positive change to occur. In contrast to talk therapies, hypnotherapy allows the subconscious mind to change beliefs, perceptions or emotions which hold you back from achieving. Hypnotherapy works on any issue that stops you from doing what you want e.g. lack of self-confidence, low self-esteem, relationship problems, annoying habits, or old, inappropriate beliefs and behaviours.

Feng Shui with Jenny Blume 2.30pm – 3.30pm / Theatre Lounge Jenny Blume has over 10 years’ experience in the worlds of design, feng shui and astrology. In this one hour seminar, Jenny will give a brief history of feng shui, then explain its uses and fundamentals – the importance of energy flow, compass directions and balance, or yin and yang. Jenny will discuss ways to attract energising ‘chi’ into your home and look at common problems, such as long hallways. The influence of positive and negative symbols will be explained, for example vines can indicate legal problems and emotional entanglement, while fruit trees can attract abundance. Indoor plants, mirrors and furniture placement will also be discussed in this talk.
