The UTS Kendo Club will host the 2015 UTS Kendo Seminar on 3 – 4 December 2015 in Sydney, Australia. The two day international event will see the 2012 World Kendo Individual Champion Susumu Takanabe, and fellow Japanese Representative Daisuke Wako come to UTS to teach the Japanese sword fencing martial art to over 80 participants from Australia, New Zealand and other Asian countries.

At the UTS Kendo Club, over 50 Kendo members of all ages, gender and nationality regularly practice together at the UTS Ross Milbourne Sports Hall (RMSH) towards this common purpose.

Kendo is a sword fencing martial art that originated from Japan and its samurai history but is now widely practiced all around the world. The word Kendo literally means ‘The Way of the Sword’ (ken: sword + do: way) and aims to

Individual Kendo Champion title in 2012 at Novara, Italy. Within Japan, both Senseis have also competed at the most prestigious Kendo event, the All Japan Kendo Championships, with Takanabe Sensei winning the championships in 2010 and 2011 and Wako Sensei coming runner up in 2008. On 3 – 4 December, the seminar will see Takanabe and Wako Sensei share their experiences at UTS to avid Kendo practitioners and in turn, build the next generation of Australian Kendo representatives at future World Kendo Championships.
