A MESSAGE FROM

your lieutenant governor

Hello Division 20! There’s only one more month until school starts, but that means we’re one month closer to our biggest event of the year for the New Jersey District: Fall Rally! Get excited for a fun and informative session in the morning, followed by a pass to ride roller coasters all day. This year, Fall Rally falls on October 9. Make sure you attend to meet Key Clubbers from across New Jersey, hear about service opportunities and updates from the District Board, and enjoy the day with your friends! We definitely have some exciting events coming up, but we also have some exciting events to look back on. The New Jersey District is incredibly proud to call our new International President a fellow member, Devin Sun! We’re also excited to announce the current totals and efforts towards our District Service Project, Hunger in New Jersey. We thus far stand at $8,713.83 in monetary donations, 7,714.5 pounds of food, and 5,307.5 service hours. However, we still need your help! I look forward to speaking with each club president soon about the district service project and what their club plans to do. As always, if you have any questions, comments, or just want to have a colloquial conversation, I’m only a phone call, text, Facebook message, or e-mail away. Yours in caring and service, Vanessa Ting DOCUMENTING DIVISION 20 | AUGUST 2016

10 Ways to Make Sure You’re

KEYPING ACTIVE Over the Summer 1. Your executive board can start out the school year of service strong by meeting together during the summer: plan out your events, promotional materials, meetings, and activities for the year while enjoying some nice bonding time and summer treats. By the time September rolls around, you’ll be all set! 2. Participate in a local street fair and set up a face painting stand! 3. Go to a local food bank or shelter and donate your time. Donating your time to a preferred organization or establishment is just as much appreciated as donating money or materialistic items. 4. Set up a stand in front of your local supermarket or convenience store and ask customers walking out of the store to donate canned goods or non-perishable food items. Make sure to explain why you’re there and what they are donating to! 5. Participate in a local charity walk. 6. Volunteer at an event at your local swim club (if you have one) like a family or game night. 7. Start a pen pal program where your peers can send letters, emails, or even care packages to soldiers who are or have been in combat. 8. Organize a park clean up day! 9. If this doesn’t convince you, having a summer gathering or activity counts as one point for the Annual Achievement Report Form. So keep active over the summer, and you’ll be helping your club be recognized on a district level! 10. In order to make the most of your summer, care for others who are in need of your assistance. Include your peers in activities that you may not typically associate with. Step up to the plate and take on a new leadership position at your local summer camp or extra-curricular activities. You will not only learn new things about yourself, but you may even build upon your character along the way! DOCUMENTING DIVISION 20 | AUGUST 2016

fall rally Once upon a time . . . All the lost boys left Neverland, Sleeping Beauty woke up and called a carriage, Little Red Riding Hood packed a second basket of treats, and Jack came down from the Beanstalk. But where were they all heading? Why, the NJ District of KCI’s Fall Rally, of course - the one event that can make even Grumpy smile! Fall Rally, or what you may know as the Key Club event held in Six Flags Great Adventure, is our biggest event of the year! Come and celebrate the start of the new school year of service with over 3,000 dedicated Key Clubbers across the state, while joining in on a pep rally including information regarding all of Key Club’s recent activities. This year, Fall Rally will be held on Sunday, October 9th! It is such an inspiring event - one that’s just right. From learning about service opportunities to riding roller coasters taller than Rapunzel’s tower, Fall Rally is such a magical time! Fall Rally is only $38.00 for early registration non-season pass attendees, $43.00 for regular registration non-season pass attendees, and $7 for all season-pass attendees. You can hear about the available service opportunities in your district, learn more about our District Project, meet your 2016-2017 NJ District Board, and ride roller coasters with your friends in the afternoon! Early Registration is due postmarked by Friday, September 23, 2016. Make sure you register early, especially if your club is taking a bus, as a bus pass is included in early registration. Late registration is due the day of Fall Rally at the park! Attending Fall Rally will allow you to turn ordinary service projects into golden ones! Don’t miss out on such a whimsical experience! We hope to see you all there! DOCUMENTING DIVISION 20 | AUGUST 2016
