A MESSAGE FROM

your lieutenant governor

Hello Division 20! It’s crazy to think that 2016 is almost over: it’s been a year of incredible memories, unforgettable experiences, and amazing people, and thank you all for being a part of that. My term as lieutenant governor is almost over, which means it’s time for a new Key Clubber to come in and take my place. Serving as LTG has been a great experience, and I encourage anyone interested in running to do so: the position will definitely introduce to you to the new paths of service. LTG elections will be held on January 19 at 7:00 P.M. in the Parsippany Main Library. Each school must send at least two representatives. The future of our division will be determined at this election, so it is crucial that your school’s voice is represented. That being said, while the year is almost over, the service year is definitely not. Take a look at the rest of this newsletter to see how you can get involved on the club, divisional, and district level, as well as some things to look forward to with District Convention right around the corner in late March. As always, if you have any questions, comments, or just want to have a colloquial conversation, I’m only a phone call, text, Facebook message, or e-mail away. Yours in caring and service, Vanessa Ting DOCUMENTING DIVISION 20 | DECEMBER SEPTEMBER2016 2016

Key Club Resolutions It’s that time again to reflect upon the past year and establish goals for the new one. While breaking resolutions can be just as easy as making them, I hope that these small, simple goals towards Key Club service and improving our community can be accomplished.

1.

Volunteer for at least two hours every month! There are so many activities you can participate in at Key Club, from bringing in food donations, to making cards for Children’s Specialized Hospital, and working at K-family events. Most of the opportunities for service are fun and easy, and they’re all for improving your school and our community.

2.

Attend at least one meeting per month. Some clubs give you hours for attending meetings, and these easy volunteer hours can add up! Meetings are also the best way to stay informed and get involved. Sometimes, there are volunteering opportunities after, like packing candy or making decorations for events.

3.

Do something for fighting Hunger in NJ! Hunger in NJ is a serious issue: people in our own communities are struggling to find food to eat and face uncertainty for their next meal. 1 in 8 people in NJ don’t know where their next meal is coming from, but you can help stop that statistic. Any donation counts, whether it’s 1 cent or 1 can, so make sure that you look out for your club’s Hunger in NJ fundraising opportunities to participate.

Thirsty Thirty KEY CLUB IS TEAMING UP WITH THE THIRST PROJECT IN THE MONTH OF JANUARY TO FIGHT THE GLOBAL WATER CRISIS.

1.

Identify how many people you want to participate! Complete clean water fundraising domination in the world begins with choosing how many people interested in participating in Thirsty Thirty throughout the month of January. You can pick anywhere from 10, 15, 20, 50, 200, etc. people to participate in the fundraiser.

2.

Have participants pick out an envelope with a number on it! For example, if there are 100 participants interested in fundraising for clean water, use 100 envelopes and number them 1-100. Participants can pick any envelope they want, but they must be committed to fundraising the envelope’s number they pick in thirty days.

3.

You have thirty days! Have your participants bring back their envelopes after thirty days, or by the end of January. The impact that you and your fellow Key Club member can make is crazy! If you have twenty of your friends participate, or just one single class, you can raise $210. If you have five of your classes participate, or 100 people, you can raise $1,050 for clean water efforts.

Hunger in New Jersey

In the month of November alone, the New Jersey District of Key Club International raised $8,807, as well as 12,982.8 pounds, and served for 1,778.5 hours. This brings the year's totals to $24,088.23, 28,547.5 pounds and 9,449 DOCUMENTING DIVISION 20 | DECEMBER SEPTEMBER2016 2016

hours. We’re very close to reaching our goals for hours, and we almost doubled our total fundraising amounts in one month alone. We’re very proud of our progress thus far, and we hope that you join us in continuing our success! PAGE 98
