Message of the Exhibition Curator I am proud to announce that IWS Hungary is holding 2016 The International Watercolour Festival „Freedom of Self Expression“ that is the first and biggest watercolour event in the history of Hungarian contemporary art. In a particularly sensitive moment of humanity our exhibition is promoting peace, friendship and equal opportunity for various visions and different artistic self expressions, with the major goal of introducing and promoting the most important values of our art, freedom, originality, imparity and colourfulness... The exhibition will provide viewers with a meaningful opportunity to experience the World of Watercolour. And through the works of highly skilled professional artists and talented amateurs at the same time learn about their cultural backgrounds and philosophies. The aim of the exhibition to make public understand the sentiments and characteristics of diverse cultures, raise the psychological and social values of watercolour art, nourish art and culture. This exhibition will open new avenue toward the world watercolour art by representing the most pure and beautiful essence of nature and human being. I am very honoured and proud that we are hosting this event in Budapest, with 190 artists from 42 countries. And truly appreciate all the participating artist and IWS Member Organisations for providing this opportunity to let the viewers experience such brilliant collections of art. 9 September 2016

Sandor Szikszai Exhibition Curator - Freedom of Self Expression, Head of IWS Hungary, Board Member of IWS Global

Message of the IWS President The Inter national Watercolor Society (IWS) is a nonprofit organization comprised of artists who share a passion for watercolor, one of the oldest and respected medium. The IWS was founded in 2011 in the ancient city of Teos, Turkey on the eastern shore of the Aegean Sea. This historic city is renowned for hosting the Guild of Artists. The vision of IWS is to bring about a Golden Age in watercolor. It brings together artists and associations, establishes standards and organizes events so that more will get to see and appreciate the work of outstanding watercolor artists from around the world. The members of IWS family see the potential of art for promoting peace and harmony between nations. Our international activities encourage stronger ties and camaraderie between branch countries. We are proud to be part of an organization that promotes this philosophy. Watercolor is undoubtedly one of the most challenging of mediums. While many in the art world recognize the skills of watercolor artists, appreciation for the medium has taken a backseat with many galleries and critics choosing to downplay watercolors and encouraging buyers and collectors to patronize instead the other painting media. This can cast a shadow and discourage watercolor artists as they make their way towards recognition and true appreciation of their artwork. We hope to effect a change in the way watercolor art is perceived by a unified and coordinated approach towards this goal from watercolor artists in different parts of the world. The IWS can help watercolor artists face challenges by creating opportunities for artists through collaboration and by providing both online and real time platforms from which artists can showcase their art. In its first four years, the IWS has rapidly expanded its roots throughout the world. So far, IWS has organized seminars, workshops, exhibitions and festivals in around 50 countries. We start the year 2016 with membership of over 80 country branches. The goals of the IWS are to: - Establish a unique museum to celebrate the art of watercolor. - Publish a journal of watercolor arts. - Enhance the skills and knowledge of young watercolor artists by organizing activities such as workshops and summer camps. - Provide support to young watercolor artists. The success achieved by the IWS is due to the dedication and hard work of volunteers all around the world. IWS is on a path to becoming the largest and most organized art society in the world. The great deal of enthusiasm around the world for developing chapters of IWS in individual countries proved that many artists appreciate the work we have done so far and that many share our vision. I am strengthened by all that I am seeing and I look to the future of IWS with optimism. Speaking on behalf of the International Watercolor Society, our heartfelt appreciation and gratitude go to the IWS Hungarian team and their Leader Master Artist Sandor Szikszai. The dedication shown by IWS Hungary in promoting the IWS Vision and goals is a great contribution to the IWS effort. We wish all of you continued success.

Alvaro Castagnet Uruguay

Art has always been a driving force in my life, as I grew up in, South America Where as a child I used to draw and paint for fun, until it became almost an obsession. I always wanted “more” than what my eyes could see….. I wanted to reflect the mood, the atmosphere, the ambience of the subject…. I wanted to reach the “soul”, the magic of the chosen subject. My style has been described as passionate, spontaneous, flamboyant and powerful. I am an expressive painter; always exploring and pursuing a strong interpretation of light effects. I enjoy stretching the boundaries of traditional art, and the medium, trying my hardest to do it with honesty and integrity. Portraying the abstract side of life is the driving force of my work. www.alvarocastagnet.net
