November 2021 run Tuesday 9th
We were promised a 19 degree day with cloud on the 9th no mention of rain but what happened drizzle was in the air but this didn’t deter 17 enthusiastic riders “Love was in the air” for them (so said the song by John Paul Young in 1978) as they headed out on an adventure to points unknown for some. A route had been mapped out by our VOG members Tony & Chris White starting from the carpark at the Halswell Library and Community Centre buildings and taking us around the cycle tracks known as the “Quarryman’s Trail” along Sparks Rd and to enter into the “Heathcote River Wetlands” . Tony had warned us to watch out for young mums with prams and dogs but fortunately we were unable to terrorise any of these on the day, due to the damper conditions there were none to be seen. It was a stop start route with plenty of crossing lights making it safe for us old VOGers to cross the roads, also a good chance for the tail enders to catch up and thus not losing any of our riders which can be a problem sometimes. The slow leisurely pace that we amble along at certainly gives one the opportunity to view all the new subdivisions that are speeding ahead in the Halswell area, gosh quiet ole Sparks Rd that I knew as a lad in the 50’s & 60’s has long gone. The circuitous route along these trails through Addington, Spreydon & Middleton eventually took us into the Wigram Skies area, and into the shopping precinct known as “The Landing” where we stopped off at the “Good Home Gastropub” to satisfy 38
