VETERAN REPORT
NEW DATE FOR ANNUAL VETERAN RALLY Now Sunday 10th October

The Branch Annual Veteran Rally was due to be held on Sunday 26th September, but due to the cold and wet weather on the day, it was decided to postpone it to Sunday 10th October. Because this was going to be Swap Meet Sunday, the date is now free and will hopefully suit everyone. We have 16 confirmed registrations, but there is room for many more and we'd love to see you there. The finish destination is the Racecourse Hill homestead, 6km west of Darfield on SH73. The homestead has undergone extensive repairs and renovations following the Canterbury earthquakes, and more recently the gardens and grounds have been the focus of attention and are now showing their springtime splendour. Because of extra requirements at the Darfield recreation centre due to COVID restrictions, we have decided to move the start location to the home of Malcolm and Anita McGibbon, 1561 Telegraph Road, Darfield. They are about halfway between Charing Cross and Darfield - there will be a sign at their gate, and there is plenty of room for trailers if needed. Please arrive between 9.30 and 10.00am. Morning tea will be provided, and the runs will begin at 10.00am. There will be a longer run (40km) and a shorter run (20km) to Racecourse Hill. All flat running and on sealed roads. There is going to be a public open day at the Homestead provided we are back to Level 1 restrictions, so our vehicles will be featured along with the homestead and its wonderful garden and surroundings. They will be parked on the driveway in front of the Homestead, and some fun field tests will be held after lunch. If we are still at Level 2 we will have the Homestead and grounds to ourselves. Entry forms for the Rally were in the September Hub on Page 35 and of course are on-line. If you haven't already entered please enter on-line by Wednesday 6th October if you can, or call or email me before Friday 8th and let me know you're intending to come. We can sort out the registration at the start on Sunday morning if necessary. If your veteran isn't currently going, all other club eligible
vehicles are welcome too, but just won’t be eligible for any of the awards. The event is as much about our veteran vehicle owners as it is about the vehicles. Please feel free to bring family or friends with you too. Other Veteran News
It was a special treat to see Brian Newberry appear in his newly restored 1914 Chevrolet Roadster at the September OCBC. He came in via the back route around the clubrooms, so not many saw him arrive. Fresh from the vic and vin process, it is yet another outstanding restoration from Brian’s workshop and was admired by many at OCBC. Apparently he’s already starting on another project, but great to see this one out and about. Well done Brian!
Also great to see so many veteran cars at last month’s OCBC – it coincided with the opening run for the season for the Veteran Club so was the ideal stop-off point after a long run using only left-hand turns. And finally, did you know that there is a facebook page for veteran owners in NZ? Go to your facebook page and search under Veteran Car Club of New Zealand. There’s lots of good stuff on it.
