Jocelyn Harris Syn Original Designs After training in Vancouver for two years in a number of jewellery techniques, including smithing, enameling, stone setting and casting, Jocelyn Harris graduated from the jewellery art and design program at VCC. Immediately she began to pursue her new found passion. “I believe in the beauty of simplicity and try to reflect that in my classic and timeless designs. By considering the natural curves and movement of the body against the metal I am able to create elegant and comfortable, one of a kind, pieces of ‘wearable art’. I like to draw inspiration from my surroundings and am constantly working on new designs to share with the public. The Sea to Sky corridor has held many opportunities for me as an emerging artist who is dedicated to sharing my vision with other jewellery lovers.”

You can find Jocelyn’s work on display in select galleries in Squamish, at countless events held in Pemberton and coming soon to Whistler. Currently, she is working out of her studio in Pemberton, BC and is now preparing for her debut at the famed Whistler Bizarre Bazaar 2010.

The captivating colors of Africa are transcending through beauty and fashion. African fashion has an unprecedented excellence, and elegance that is seen in every country throughout the continent; however there are four countries in Africa that are leading the fashion industry. Dakar Senegal is filled with elements of culture. Brilliant colorful printed fabrics are worn every day in Senegal. One the most popular color blends are burgundy and gold. The basic fabric worn is cotton. Garments that hand woven are reserved for special occasions; such weddings, baby showers, and holidays. The sophistication of the designs from head wraps to the delicacy of patterns is combined, in such a way that will showcase the Senegalese men and women at the fore front of the fashion world.

Abidjan, Ivory Coast (COTE D’IVOIRE) with a population of approximately 2 million is often called the “Paris of West Africa”. Contemporary African fashions are popular with both Ivorian and foreign women. Beautifully wrapped head scarves and attractive dresses, skirts, and pants outfits are a part of the fashion regimen.

Nigerian clothing is both unique and attractive. Nigerian women are often seen with braided hair to accent their attire. Wax textured prints with brilliant color patterns are of the styles that the women wear. Lace, jacquard, adire and ankarta are also some of the materials that are used to prepare dresses in Nigeria. For men there’s buba, fila, sokoto, abeti-aja and agbada.

Ghana is bordered by the Ivory Coast. The color red is a dominating color that is used in Ghana; this bold color is worn with many colors and prints to highlight its fierce impact on fashion. The Kenthe cloth is the most popular cloth in Ghana and it’s worn for festive occasions. Kenthe is identified by its dazzling, multicolored patterns of bright colors, geometric shapes, and bold designs. There three types of traditional styles for women: a long dress, skirt and top set, and wrap. Men are known to wear tunics, short or long sleeved, with loose drawstring pants.

Africa is quite a new emerging fashion centre; the vibrant colorful fashions of African traditional clothes are gaining new life and growing popularity on the global fashion scene.

SAFARI

He had hoped disinterest would thwart her advances. She was headstrong and pushy and really unnecessary to his personal journey. Seeking refuge in a foreign land with the promise of adventure, he thought he had all he needed. It was to be his pilgrimage, an education in self and ancestry. By losing himself in the terrain, he hoped to find a truer self.

She goaded him, knowing she was a valuable asset in his expedition. Without his consent she joined him, knowing it frustrated and challenged him. Proving herself to him in subtle ways, making herself irreplaceable, she chipped away his armor. His angry heart and overt claims of independence and self-reliance were cries to be allowed to love again. He had been hurt and needed to prove his masculinity.

Slowly she worked away his indifference, finding not only did his hardened exterior excite her, but the gentle quiet intellectual made her thoughts dance. He was deliberate and concise, at times painstakingly slow in his desire for perfection. Often she found herself wondering if he would so meticulous, if he had her.

Weeks had passed and he continued to open up to her. Nurturing the chink in his armor he softened and became more receptive to her advances. Knowing she needed to tread lightly, she couldn't help but push him to see how much she wanted him. He was pensive and she was at a boiling point.

Finding him reflecting amongst the tall grasses, she stared hard at him. Her body ached with need and he was all she wanted. How could he be so cool and collected, she hissed. Slowly like a lion stalking her prey she brought herself into his line of sight and without much thought to his desires she pounced. Holding her form he felt her heat and stared hard into her eyes. He wasn't ready and he needed her to know that. He kissed her softly on the nose, a move that angered her fiercely. She was reeling sitting so close to

him and seething at his redirect. Indignant she sat in his lap and turned away from him. Making it this far she was not going to lose ground now. The heat was soaring as the sun reached its full potential, but a cool came over her as he sat up and pulled himself close to her. His touch was subtle and deliberate just as she had imagined. It was maddening but she knew she had pushed to hard. She was ashamed she had lost control, she saw so much in him and had shown so little of her true self. She was no better than the things he was running away from.

Holding her, her reassured her that he did indeed want her, but that it shouldn't be forced and would be better when it was genuine passion, not ardent lust. He calmed the storm that had raged in her since forcing herself in his existence. And slowly some of her armor softened too. And when the moment was right, he did show her his passion, and it was intensely delicate and the perfection she imagined. On Saturday, May 19th, Kavir Model Management defined the eclectic mix of fun in the sun, fresh faces, and unique style. The newly emerged Phoenix, AZ high fashion modeling agency emphasizes praise and cultivating a family atmosphere as integral aspects of their work ethic. This philosophy has led to quite a bit of achievements for the new company. Not many agencies as young as Kavir have such an impressive roster of clients such as Pepsi, MTV, Nike, and ehow.com. This success warranted a celebration, so an idea was born. Chief Operating Officer Katt Rambo and Agent and Hair Stylist Rose Guillen desired to create an original event commending these achievements, along with a photo shoot filled with summertime finesse. “While we’re having fun, why not have a photo shoot while we’re at it? After all, our collective team of staff and models have so much passion for what we do that it doesn’t even feel like work,” states Chief Executive Officer Roman Acevedo.

All Make-Up by Amber David

Now is the time to celebrate, so anyone who has been involved in Kavir’s journey was invited to enjoy the festivities. In attendance were some of the best local photographers in town - Steve Trujillo, Mikel Florman, Brad Olson, Giancarlo Banks, and Dermot Carey, who each added their talents and special touch to the shoot. Nicole Dimitri, Chief Creative Officer of Kavir Model Management, assisted with styling and accessorizing, while Rose Guillen carried out various hair creations and Amber David artistically utilized her make up skills to create some fantastic faces. The main party took place at Guillen’s house, where freshly cooked fajitas were grilled on the BBQ and models were styled in swimwear and every other summertide look under the sun. The photo shoot took place at the Cibola Vista Resort & Spa, which provided an epicurean atmosphere with its mix of luxurious pool side cabanas and enchanting desert landscape. The mock western ghost town added a unique flair and inspired creativity for both our models and photographers. The event lasted all day and into the evening, accommodating enough time for some high fashion elements and casual chic fun. The photographers, stylists, organizers, and all of the talented Kavir models produced a collection of radiant photos celebrating the debut of summer and success. Kavir would like to thank everyone for their dedication and contributions to such a great event. Harpers F erry

The inspiration for this shoot was to combine male high fashion with the charm of Historic Harpers Ferry, WV. We chose the location because it was like taking a step into the past and seeing high fashion strolling down its picturesque streets. The motivation for this shoot was to try something new with the best team that we could assemble.

Countless hours of planning went into this shoot, models, hair, makeup, and styling. This was a huge shoot with twenty people from Maryland, Virginia, Washington DC and West Virginia. We asked that everyone bring their own outfits and we would provide what we could.

The day of the shoot was Memorial Day 2012, we all arrived in hot and humid Harpers Ferry, ready to start the day. We all spent some time that morning bonding as a group so that we could get the right energy to carry and fuel the all-day shoot. Then, it was time for the models to change, get hair and makeup done and we were off! The male models were ready to go as the ladies got their hair and makeup done. Needless to say the men brought everything to the table, wardrobe, attitude and their own flair and creativity. Time was of the essence, with the temperature reaching upwards of ninety-five degrees and the men wearing full suits at times we had to get the images shot. The men supplied a great deal of energy, despite all the sweating, we were able to capture so many amazing photos from all over Harpers Ferry.

Wardrobe was supplied by the men and between them and I we were able to choose outfits that would be highlighted by the surrounding location. We also chose outfits that would show off some color that would kick off summer. There were a lot of spectators that seemed to enjoy watching the shoot. Many said they hadn’t seen a photo shoot before and thought that we had the right models, attire and location. It was an amazing experience to have so many people enjoy the frenzy and started a buzz throughout the city, whether it was down the narrow streets that went thru the small city or the alleys that lie between.

Rowdy Pink boutique is the culmination of style, fashion, and exquisite taste. With many years spent establishing sources from all over the world, founder Jillian Larion, started Rowdy Pink Boutique with a dream and a tent at local outdoor events. Her ability to find avant-garde fashion at affordable prices quickly brought success. With each achievement, Ms. Larion took another bold step forward, and started opening her boutique as mini-showrooms in Salons. Her displays, designs and values brought her success and she spent several years building her inventory and researching quality and value driven products.

Just last year, Rowdy Pink Boutique opened its first stand-alone boutique in the Melrose District in Phoenix. The store is small, yet upon passing thru the front door, customers are first surprised at the nouveau chic interior design. Next customers are impressed at the incredible selection of handbags, jeans, tops, dresses, skirts, jewelry and boutique home décor and home furnishings. Everything in the store is available for purchase, from the pink chandeliers hanging from the ceiling to the retro-hip display cabinets, hand carts, shelving units and mannequins. That’s right, if you see anything you like, it’s available for purchase! The owner spends hundreds of hours each year selecting and ordering styles that are everything you have come to expect from a trendy boutique, but Rowdy Pink Boutique offers everything at 2590% off the regular factory list price of almost all of the clothing.

In addition to the handbags, jeans and women’s clothing, Jillian Larion has set aside areas in her store for well-known and soon to be well known artists and designers. Belt buckles and money clips from WATTO, the fabrication and design company that movie stars from all over the world can be seen wearing, sit next to custom designed earrings and necklaces from Stephanie Lewis, the hottest up and coming jewelry designer from Tucson. Art by local artist Melissa Behr can be found displayed next to Black Cat Designs, created by Elizabeth Skinner, who specializes in creating handmade, one-of-akind steampunk, Victorian, and vintage inspired pieces. If it is hip, cool, trendy, outrageous or understated ornate, at Rowdy Pink Boutique, you will be able to find the right look for you and your sense of fashion without spending a fortune. You truly can achieve the boutique look you desire, without the boutique price. The owner of Rowdy Pink Boutique, Jillian Larion, has been the fashion consultant and clothing provider for several prominent politicians in Arizona, including a contender for the US Senate and his family. Recently, her clothing styles and unique selections were chosen to be featured in a movie production and Ms. Larion provided the outfits, jewelry and fashion consulting.
