his is our very first issue of Vegas Automotive Magazine! We cannot be more happy with the response and support from the automotive community! VAM will be a FREE magazine! This is made possible thanks to our sponsors! Be sure to check out all the sweet advertisements and support the businesses that make this possible! If you can do that, then we will keep pumping out killer new content for years to come! The idea of VAM came to be through a personal love for all things automotive and the passion for entrepreneurship. We also have an amazing sense of pride for our city, Las Vegas. We decided that to create a platform that incorporated all these elements and then some. Creating something wonderful could not be done without an awesome team behind it. We collaborated with individuals who believe in our idea as much as we do and now after many hours (of crazy hard work) we are bringing you a magazine for all to enjoy! Our magazine is all about supporting the locals and the car enthusiasts that reside here. We have some local ride features in our first issue to showcase just how great this automotive community is. We also have tech tips and a calendar of events in the community, plus so much more. In the future, you can be sure to find business spotlights, product reviews, and awesome lady rides! Let's collaborate and add some pages! For the cover of our first issue, we chose to do something that showcased exactly what our magazine is all about. We decided that our magazine was going to be for everyone. It's safe to say no matter what automotive style is your favorite, we can all appreciate anything that is fast, clean, and has some blood, sweat and tears put into it. Therefore, we chose to incorporate many types of vehicles on the cover to express that we will not discriminate, and each issue will always be something different that we can all enjoy! We are always looking for great content to put in our magazine. The magazine is made for the readers and supporters so if you have a stunning ride or content you would like to see in the magazine, please reach out. We are always open to new ideas and feedback! Next issue, we will be looking for an impressive lady ride. If you or a lady you know has a cool ride and wants to be featured, submit photos and a couple details about the ride to us and you may get chosen!

Thank you for your support!

Age 24, Alexis is a proud Las Vegas local. She was born and raised in Las Vegas. She grew up around cars thanks to her parents being in a car club and her dad always having some sort of project! Her interest in the automotive industry grew when she met her now Fiancé, Adrian Mirabal. For the past 9 years, they have explored their passion by building their truck together, attending SEMA, local meets, drift events, supercross, the bull ring and just about any event that they have time for and were able to make!

“ Starting this magazine gives us the opportunity to put those experiences in peoples hands who might not be able to make it out to every event ” Publisher>>>>>>Adrian Mirabal

Age 27, born and raised in Las Vegas, he did not find the love for cars until high school when a few friends introduced him to a new world of fast cars, off-road trucks, dirt bikes, quads and buggies! Ever since then, it just stuck and he wouldn’t have it any other way. Adrian owns a few small businesses in town and loves to lead people into new endeavors. Although he loves the off-road world and prerunners, you can catch him drooling over many nice cars!

W

hat draws someone to a certain car? I guess the answer to that is always different. In Bill's case, he has been a Cobra fan since early childhood. He remembers the first time seeing one in a magazine and how it just caught his eye's! Bill has been into cars since he got his first car at about age 13 and as he began learning how to work on it. He has been addicted ever since! A few years back, Bill caught himself wanting to take a break and spend some time cruising the Pacific Coast Highway, and it was then, he realized that the Cobra would be the perfect car for that trip! Not long after that thought, the Factory Five MK2 Cobra Replica was being built. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

" Anywhere you go with this car turns into a car show "

13

>>>>>>>>>>>> Bill's MK2 Cobra Replica:Life with a Cobra:The future: Bill was born in New Jersey but he grew up in Northern California before heading to Boston for his education. He has been involved in racing his entire life. Starting with road bikes for Yamaha in the early 90's all the way through many types of sports cars and formula cars. Currently Bill is a Regional Mortgage Bank Manager. Outside of all the fun he gets to have with his car, he enjoys hiking in the desert with his girlfriend and his dog, a South African Boerboel named Inja, enjoying some good ol' pizza and did we mention getting to have fun with his car??? The car has been featured on several television shows throughout recent years such as Street Outlaws, Wayne Carrini from Chasing Classic Cars used it in a commercial, the Special Olympics used it to promote their national campaign with a commercial and A&E used it in an episode of Bad Ink. Let's just say, everyone enjoys this ride! Bill wants to thank all the great Cobra guys at the Car Show every Saturday on Eastern! They have been a huge help with his car and it is a fun place to be! Check it out!

How can this car get better? Well, lets leave it to Bill to answer that. In the future, Bill plans on two engine swaps. Soon, a 410ci stroker with polished ram intake is going in so he can go back to fuel injection. This includes a faceplated TKO500. He anticipates somewhere around 600+ hp at the crank with this setup. That should be fun, but leave it to a car guy to plan one step further. Next year his goal is to drop in the cars final engine, a 427ci stroker from Shafiroff with dual Torq-Storm superchargers feeding into a custom surge tank to the cross ram injection manifold. Anticipated hp will be slightly over 1000 with a Jerico 5 speed road race transmission. Keep an eye out in the future. We just might provide you with an update on this car! Bill has a goal to take the car on a drive on historic U.S. Route 66 from end to end! If you ever see him around town, say hello!

Clinton's 2016 VW GTI Photos by Clinton Rowley

W

ell, as you read earlier, Clinton is our Creative Director. That means he is required to love many things with an engine! But his current project is his 2016 VW GTI. Right now, he has all the basics done as far as modifications, JB1 Tune, APR Downpipe, APR Shortshifter, Go Fast Bits Diverter Valve, H&R lowering springs, 19" Rotiform SPF's, Ed's Reps Bi-Xenon headlights and a custom exhaust. That list is more than enough to scoot around town and have some fun! Clinton found himself in a GTI after owning both a Ram Charger and Ford Bronco II. He was using up more fuel than he wanted to pay for on his commute. So he searched for something good on gas but still fun and he has always had an attraction to VW's so it was an easy choice from there. Clinton recently married his high school sweetheart, Wendy and together they have two Daschunds. He likes to spend his spare time going to the movies, visiting Red Rock, and fishing at Floyd Lamb park.

Future: As of right now, Clinton does not have any future plans until the warranty is up!

UNITED FOR VEGAS By Michael Johnson

U

nited for Vegas show was more than just about the cars. In 2017, Las Vegas came together every chance it could. Collaborating with some amazing clubs, businesses and organizations we managed to contribute donations, gifts and bring the community closer on many occasions. The generosity of the car scene has never failed and especially following the Route 91 tragedy of October 1st, 2017. The automotive community came together in response like never before thanks to Jesse Coronado of 360 Car Shows’ efforts. He was the first to get to work; organizing and reaching out to assemble an all-star team to make the United for Vegas Car Show a success. Jesse’s friends: Gary Schumacher (Hellkat Racers), Ryan Hamilton, Chris Hartshorne (Celebrity Cars), Monica Jackson (Channel 5 News), Las Vegas Car Meets and The M Resort were all major influences for the success of the event. Everyone used their resources to draw interest and spread awareness of the event which rendered a turn out no one expected. Thankfully, the M Resort offered their facility because without them we would never have had enough space to accommodate the turn out. On October 7th the cars, trucks and motorcycles came roaring in a line that stretched down the street for blocks. The show hadn’t even begun yet when the car lot that had a capacity of 500 filled to its brim with all the beautifully built, washed and waxed machines. The M had to open up an additional parking lot to try and accommodate

#VEGASSTRONG more vehicles and managed to squeeze another 300. By the time the show started everyone was situated. The promenade in front of the resort was staggered with blue canopies featuring an eclectic mix of entertainment and local businesses ready to contribute the sales of their goods to the donations. The DJ was bumping his tunes and exciting the crowd. A collection of glistening trophies awaited good homes. The raffle booth was completely full of donated goodies to give away. It was an amazing sight to see. Rows of amazing cars reflecting the sunny weather off their bright paint jobs and time aged patina. All were admired just the same by the mass of people. The air was littered with exhaust sounds that purred while others roared ferociously. No build was barred, and it was beautiful to experience that kind of scene. All people from different walks of life came together to celebrate life and be thankful in spite of the tragedy that struck our city just a week before. Instead of being defeated we were united. You couldn’t have asked for a better way to show love and support to the Las Vegas community. With everyone’s efforts and contributions we managed to raise an astounding $50,000 for the Route 91 shooting Victim’s fund. Something every person can be proud to say they were a part of and I hope we can continue to come together for every year in the future to support and remember everyone effected by this tragedy.

ell who doesn't like a good FRS. When the FRS hit the market, I remember everyone wanted one! An affordable sports car that can be heavily modified or left stock! Michael got himself into a 2016 Toyota FRS when he was ready to buy his first brand new car. He did some research on 370Z's Genesis' and the FRS. Although the alternatives did out power the FRS, they did not outperform in handling. For the money saved on the FRS platform, he would have some funds to begin upgrades. He does not regret his decision at all! He even races his car in Autocross! His favorite place to take the car is cruising up Mt. Charleston and Red Rock.

Where The Pavement Ends

Adrian's 2004 Ford F150 Prerunner Images by Clinton Rowley

I

n the desert, you get to see a truck built like this at work! Just like all projects, there are different levels. Adrian says his truck has some pretty beefy parts but he is still running a factory frame, and the original Ford V8 4.6 engine. That doesn't stop him from taking his modified F150 to the desert and enjoying some seat time with friends! One of the best things about a truck built to this level is being able to take it out for a few hours on the trails and hop right back on the road and head for a night on the town! With a full fiberglass converted front end and fiberglass bedsides by Fiberwerx, this thing turns heads! Mainly out of pure interest or confusion, a lot of people are unfamiliar with this "prerunner" style build, but at the end of the day we can all appreciate the craftsmanship involved in a nice conversion! This F150 started with a 2004 body and was converted to a 2009-2014 F150. Adrian considers himself an automobile enthusiast of all kinds! He has a long list of dream cars but one of his goals is to have an R35 Nissan GTR!

ars were always big in Jacob's family, his late father always had some kind of hot rod when he was growing up. Being around cars at a young age is where his interest sparked. He grew up in Central Florida before moving to NC when he was 15. Right out of college he joined the Air Force where he spent 11 years as a maintenance officer. Jacob now finds himself calling Vegas home along with his wife and three kids. His first car was a 1985 Camaro that he got when he was 15. After he got his license, he started getting his hands dirty. One year later, and you could find him and his dad in the garage, swapping motors, transmissions and rear ends. So naturally, a Camaro was his first love! Jacob has been featured in SEMA alongside some major brands. "I have been very lucky to have a lot of long standing relationships with some of the best companies in the automotive aftermarket. I was able to make the switch with a lot of them and transfer over to this car from my Tundra. I am very grateful and lucky to have such great partnerships with these companies." says Jacob.

ow this is a guy of many projects! Ed has been in the automotive game for quite some time. He has been into cars/trucks since he was about 14 years old and later got into modifying his rides around age 18. He has lived in Vegas for over 24 years now and currently works on the Las Vegas strip as a Door Man. He has a supportive and loving wife and two wonderful kids, a boy and a girl, and also two puppies, a Pit Bull and a Yorkie. As a matter of fact, Ed's growing family is the main reason they got into a 4Runner. Ed had his previous Tundra projects in SEMA 2010, 2011, 2013, 2014 and when they found out a baby was on the way, it was time for a break and a change. Ed says he may get into another Tundra. Can you see a Las Vegas Tundras revival? Ed was head of the world famous truck club and enjoyed taking his team to be featured at events such as Monster Jam, Supercross, Lucas Oil OffRoad Series, and Red Bull Air Races. Ed wants to throw a few special thanks out there aside from his sponsors. Jacob Merrell, who helped install the lift in his garage, Shawn Lucero from Rogue Offroad who helped with some suspension parts and always lends a hand, Jeff Obremski from N1OCE Fabrications who built the custom train horn mounts and Ryan Lewis from 4 Wheel Parts.

Michele Abbate 2013 Toyota 86

W

hen you are searching Vegas for some local race cars, it isn't hard to find Michele Abbate and her Husband Anthony Philleo.

Age 29, Michele currently works at Supercar System at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Michele and Anthony have no pets and no kids, just too many race cars. She has been around racing since the age of 4, as she grew up with an older brother that raced go karts and worked his way up to testing for F1. She started driving when she was 16 after buying a car she could try racing in. Soon after that Michele started participating in Autocross events around 2004 and worked her way up to track days, time attack, and eventually earning her wheel to wheel license and on to her professional racing licenses. Fast forward a little and now their race car and team definitely stand out from the crowd! The first thing you notice is that the car is built off of a Toyota 86/FRS. You see a ton of these with some modifications rolling around town, but you will not see this one! Michele's car is a full blown race car! This car was built completely by Michele and Anthony and is a true example of dedication and passion! Michele's "You Can" attitude really shows in everything she does. Take a look at her GRRR face, and logo. We couldn't think of a more perfect fit. GRRR Racing Team is the name of the crew behind her and her car. They currently run road racing and are now expanding into the offroad world thanks to a partnership with Rookie Motorsports. Michele says without her sponsors this wouldn't be possible. They only work with the best of the industry to make a mutually beneficial relationship. Michele spends her free time hanging with her husband, going to the lake during summer on her dad's boat and just enjoying life. The race car does not have a name, but their white Tundra is named Yeti, her white BMW 135i is Vixyn, the legends car is Monster and the BRZ is Breezy. Be sure to check Michele out and watch for her future! One of her plans is to Win the 2018 SCCA Run Offs! Check out the next page for all the specs on her race car!

ith Valentine's Day around the corner, as soon as we came across this photo on Instagram, we knew we had to get it in the magazine! We also knew that there had to be a good story behind this, and there was!

Ivan and Shelby met at a car meet in Oregon. At the time, Ivan had a red S2000 and Shelby asked to park next to him. Naturally, they began to hang out all the time, all mainly car stuff, going on cruises, taking photos, etc. Then one day Ivan finally had the courage to formally ask Shelby out! Let's fast forward a little. They got engaged and moved to Las Vegas together. See! Cars bring love to the world! They chose Vegas because in their opinion the car scene is so next level that it inspired them to start doing more modifications to their cars. After a while, Ivan decided that having two small cars was not cutting it, so after going through his share of cars he bought his Camaro. He is happy with his choice. His Camaro has plenty of power and is a ton of fun to drive, but seeing Shelby's S2000 everyday with her growing list of parts: Carbon Fiber Mugen hardtop, Karbon Haus CG Flares all around, Custom Diamond Pearl paint job by 47s Project Garage, karbon Haus Jays Racing wing, Hawk Performance drilled and slotted rotors, Bride Seats, ARC intake system, and a lot more stuff, also his fellow Team Hybrid members, made him curious about taking his Camaro to the next level as well. Ivan started with a Stage 1 package by Leading Edge Performance, then Shelby bought him some Megan Racing Coilovers. The list now just continues to grow to include a recently added MB Design wide body, which they installed themselves in their home garage. Together, they can't wait to start show season for 2018 with their family and Team Hybrid! Keep an eye out on these two! #CoupleGoals

his blue Lancer sure does stand out from the crowd, from the white wheels all the way to the energetic and humble man behind the wheel, Mike, age 48. He was born in Quezon City Manila Philippines and came to the US when he was just 7 years old. After living in California for some time, Mike moved his family to Vegas in 1999. He is happily married for 23 years to his wife Mia, has two sons, Tristan Michael who is 22 years old and putting himself through Barber College and Jared Cameron who is 17 years old and completing his high school studies. Mike works for a large casino in a Director position. When he is not working he enjoys time with his family, going to the movies, shopping, eating out at restaurants, and spending time at home watching his favorite basketball team. " Go Lakers!" Mike is a proud member of Team Hybrid, Nevada. He says he never thought he would be in a car club. He originally purchased his Lancer to save some gas after owning a 4x4 Armada for a while. He decided to add some small mods like a shifter, exhaust, lowering springs. He then met a few guys in town with Lancers, he began making new friends in the car scene and many of them were Team Hybrid members. After hanging with the team and his new friends, he realized he felt like he has known them for years and considered them family. It was then Mike pursued becoming part of the team! " I want to throw a special thanks to Ayban, Oba, Jhay, Christian, David, just to name a few." It is thanks to these guys that now Mike wants a turbo, wide body kit, custom steering wheel, custom 28 interior, new paint, air suspension and a stereo system! His team definitely motivates him!

Preparing for A Season With The Help Of Espresso

M

y name is Giulia (pronounced Julia) but you can all call me Jules. Welcome to Battery Acid. A column that will present a different mechanical subject to be discussed in depth, which will be paired with short knowledge about a coffee drink. Bringing new meaning to cars and coffee, Battery Acid will help you stay educated about different projects, theories, and ideas while being Now, espresso is the way in which most people start their days, or the drink caffeinated enough to start and finish them. people turn to when are trying to make it through a long day. It is January which means most programs are in offseason. This means a lot of long days Espresso, pronounced e-spresso, not ex-presso (every fixing the mistakes of last season and A LOT of coffee being consumed by baristas pet peeve) is the basis for most coffee drinks. all of these hardworking people to help make it happen. All in all, offseason It is used in hot and cold lattes, presented by itself, is a time to refresh and rejuvenate. I spoke to some competitors to get their served with water, or used as a kick in different tea tips about what you should be doing during offseason to be successful in lattes and iced coffees. Espresso comes from the the upcoming season. Jacob Hakaraia, a competitor in D1NZ, which is the word esprimere, which in Italian means to force out. competitive drift series in New Zealand says that you need to unwind during Espresso is created when water is forced out due the offseason. He states, “If you talk to a lot of successful race car drives like to high pressure over finely ground coffee beans to Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton or rally car driver, Sebastian Vettel, they give you a concentrated amount of coffee which is will all say the same thing which is that you need balance in your life. If you typically higher in caffeine and tastes strong with a keep doing the same thing you will eventually get burnt out, the flame and bitter flavor. The important things to remember about desire for doing what you love will die. In the race season, you tend to forget espresso is that it is ordered as a solo (single shot), the bigger things like family and get caught up in the hype or the ‘fashion a doppio (double shot), a triple (three shots), or as of drifting.’” Amanda Sorensen of Sorensen Motorsports based right here a quad (four shots). Next, you can control how long in Las Vegas, Nevada also agrees that “you need to have a little bit of fun in an espresso machine takes to pull out the shot. The the off season.” She and her brother race in multiple different series such amount of time the shot pulls for will affect the taste. as grassroots drifting, UTV racing, and Go Kart races. She says that she A ristretto shot pulls for the least amount of time and participates in figure skating, snowboarding, and plays on her high school taste sweeter. While a long shot pulls for the longest volleyball team to help her have fun when she is not preparing to drive at an amount of time and will produce a much larger event. Amanda and Jacob also agree that the offseason is a great time to tear amount of espresso. This will cause it to have a very down your competition cars and replace whatever you feel may need to be strong bitter taste. Lastly, a good shot of espresso will fixed. Most people spend this time fixing what they broke, whether it be door have three parts: the creama, the body, and the heart. panels, axles, transmission, motors, or plenty of other smaller parts as well. It The creama is the white foam layer that sits on top and is also the time to secure new parts and attempt to integrate new setups into it tastes sweetest. The body is the middle which holds your builds. This way there is also time to work out kinks. As we descend most of the shot and most of the flavor. This should further into the new year, the new seasons for all types of motorsports are all always be a light brown color. The bottom is the heart. approaching rapidly. Good luck to all competitors!
