WELCOME TO LEGISLATIVE DAY 2023!

Welcome! Thank you for joining the Vegas Chamber’s Legislative Day and Reception in our State’s Capitol. We are excited that you are joining us in Carson City and appreciate the time commitment you have made by being here for these important conversations with state legislators and key decision makers.

Your participation as a Vegas Chamber member sends a powerful message to state lawmakers, that you are engaged and care about the decisions that they make during the legislative session. It shows that business leaders, employers, and job creators are vested in the future of our State.

The Chamber is deeply engaged in setting the course for Nevada’s future through its public policy and advocacy efforts. That has been our role and mission for over 112 years. As a unified employer community, we will advocate for sound, common sense policies that will help employers, employees, and entrepreneurs succeed.

Today, you will have the chance to see our Government Affairs team in action. They work every day to protect employers against harmful policies. They help craft solutions to improve our business climate, encourage job creation, and create a better quality of life for all Nevadans.

The Chamber’s legislative priorities are based on the principles of protecting Nevada’s business climate, ensuring a fair and balanced legal environment supporting workforce development initiatives, advocating for employers’ rights, and fostering job creation.

Thank you for joining the Chamber today and sharing your perspective with legislators about the importance of supporting employers to grow, create jobs, and thrive. Cultivating growth and prosperity is the Chamber’s purpose and our commitment to you.

Together, let’s make sure the Voice of Business is amplified and heard in the halls of our State Legislature.

Sincerely,

•An important part of a state’s business climate is its tort liability system. The Vegas Chamber will defend Nevada’s existing legal system so that it does not become a deterrent to economic development. It cannot become a legal system that encourages countless frivolous lawsuits or an unreasonable monetary judgment by a hostile legal system.

Spending and Tax Policy

•Vegas Chamber will advocate for a statewide tax structure that based on common sense principles: tax policies should be neutral, stable, equitable, and fair.

• Tax policy and rates should not be punitive toward one specific industry or sector. That approach creates instability and unpredictability for employers to operate and causes financial volatility for the state budgeting process.

Higher Education Governance

•A transparent, stable, and equitable public higher education system is something that every Nevadan should expect from the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE).

•A top policy priority for the Vegas Chamber in the 2023 Legislature is for change to the existing higher education governance structure.
