HUNTINGTON LEARNING Center Grand Re-opening in Summerlin Centro de Aprendizaje Huntington Gran Reapertura en Summerlin By~Por: Mark Hackmann

In addition to writing, editing, and advertising in Mi Mundo every month, I also own a learning center in Summerlin. On February 8, 2017, we had our ribbon cutting and grand reopening. I wanted to use this month’s article to give a background on the center and myself. I began working for Huntington Learning Center in 2010 as a part-time tutor to make a little extra cash. In August of 2011, I had decided that I wanted to be an owner not just a tutor. I put together a business plan and some investors and even made to Nevada State Bank for the financing needed to open my own center. Unfortunately, one of the investors backed out and then the entire thing fell like house of cards. Because of this failure, I decided to attend law school instead. I went to Thomas Jefferson School of Law in San Diego, CA., which is why I decided to be a part of the group to launch Mi Mundo Magazine San Diego. I continued to work as a tutor all the way through school and when I returned to Las Vegas in 2015, I decided to return to HLC to again work as a parttime tutor. It was under different ownership when I came back because the original owner had passed away suddenly because of a brain tumor. I worked for the new owners for a bit and then I decided to continue tutoring outside of HLC until last fall when I received an email that the centers were for sale. I sold my Dad on my idea and since then we have been working together to help the children of Las Vegas develop their academic skills so that they can achieve whatever goals they have academically as well as succeed in life. The ribbon cutting was sponsored by the Las Vegas Metro Chamber of Commerce and we were blessed with the presence of the Publisher as well. Please enjoy some photos from the event.

Además de escribir, editar y publicar en Mi Mundo cada mes, también poseo un centro de aprendizaje en Summerlin. El 8 de febrero de 2017, tuvimos nuestro corte de cinta y gran reapertura. Quería usar el artículo de este mes para dar un trasfondo sobre el centro y sobre mí mismo. Comencé a trabajar para Huntington Learning Center (Centro de Aprendizaje Huntington) en el 2010 como un tutor a tiempo parcial para hacer un poco de dinero extra. En agosto del 2011, había decidido que quería ser un propietario no solo un tutor. Junté un plan de negocios y algunos inversores e incluso hice solicitud en el Nevada State Bank para la financiación necesaria para abrir mi propio centro. Desafortunadamente, uno de los inversores se retiró y luego todo cayó al piso como una casa de cartas. Debido a este fracaso, decidí asistir a la escuela de leyes en lugar de esto. Fui a la Escuela de Derecho Thomas Jefferson en San Diego, CA, por lo que decidí formar parte del grupo para lanzar la revista Mi Mundo en San Diego. Le vendí a mi papá mi idea y desde entonces hemos estado trabajando juntos para ayudar a los niños de Las Vegas a desarrollar sus habilidades académicas para que puedan lograr cualquier meta que tengan académicamente, así como a tener éxito en la vida. It was about time that Las Vegas got its own authentic Chinese casino. It rises right next door to Allure High and the Golden Steer Restaurant. LUCKY DRAGON opened in December. Standing 10 stories high, a separate hotel from the casino, and numerous authentic restaurants, this $373 million luxury hotel will cater to high end players. There are 203 guest rooms, including 22 suites. Standard rooms are 400sf all furnished with Asian flair rich in culture. Standard suites are 625 square foot and the one Penthouse Suite is 1300 square foot. This is the first ground-up construction of a hotel and casino property in Las Vegas since 2010. The pool is an extension off the main lobby and the Cha Garden. Sothys Spa, a large 4,500 square foot facility has traditional Chinese and Western treatments. The Pearl Ocean restaurant is superb, along with Phoenix, Cha Garden, Bao Now, and Dragons, there is plenty of marvelous food. With a large center bar, and we all hope enough extra land to quickly add on, as I hear they are sold out every night. Stop in for some late night dining, or to sip a leisurely cocktail while you are surrounded by the Chinese Culture. There are two main bars, with Pagoda Bar at the heart of the casino. The casino itself has a 27,500 square foot area with 37 tables and 287 slot machines. Two high end gaming areas, the Emerald Room, and the VIP Gaming Lounge serve the casino’s major players.

Originating in Orlando, Las Vegas being their second location, and 28 more franchises in the wings, this is truly a fun wholesome family event. While many escape rooms are meant to terrify oneself, this is an event for everyone. They have 6 escape rooms, and 4 more themes coming to host the most scenarios anywhere. If you love eating rich, Peru, according to the National Geographic, is among the top 10 world gastronomic destinations. In 2014, it received the World Travel Awards due to the variety, originality, and richness of its gastronomy and at the same time, by the business approach it takes. Each region has its typical dishes. Next, we will give you the dish recipe from the south coast of Peru, specifically from the Arequipa city. It’s easy to prepare and you do not need a lot of time. This entrance dish is called: Ocopa a la Arequipeña. The Ocopa word comes from the Quechua Huq’opa meaning “soak.” It is a sauce made of cheese, soda crackers, roasted peanuts, roasted pepper, oil, and some herbs. Here we go! INGREDIENTS FOR 6 PEOPLE: • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • •

12 medium sized potatoes (yellow or white) cooked. 1 onion chopped. 5 large yellow peppers chopped. 4 soda crackers. 150 grams of roasted peanuts. 150 grams of fresh cheese. 2 branches of huacatay. ½ cup oil. 1 teaspoon ground garlic. ½ cup evaporated milk. 150 grams of roasted shrimp tails. Salt and pepper to taste. 3 hard-boiled eggs to decorate. 6 leaves of lettuce to decorate. 6 olives to decorate. 6 pieces of fresh cheese to decorate.

Si de comer rico se trata, el Perú, según el National Geographic, está dentro de los 10 destinos gastronómicos mundiales. En el año 2014, recibió el reconocimiento The World Travel Awards, debido a la variedad, originalidad y riqueza de su gastronomía; al mismo tiempo, por el enfoque empresarial que se le ha venido dando. Cada región tiene sus platos típicos. A continuación te vamos a dar la receta de un plato oriundo de la costa sur del Perú, específicamente de la ciudad de Arequipa. Es fácil de preparar y no necesitas de mucho tiempo. Este plato de entrada se llama: Ocopa a la Arequipeña. La palabra Ocopa proviene del quechua Huq’opa que significa “lo que se remoja”. Es una salsa a base de queso, galleta molida, maní tostado, ají tostado, aceite y algunas hierbas aromáticas. ¡Aquí vamos! INGREDIENTES PARA 6 PERSONAS: • 12 papas medianas (amarillas o blancas) cocidas. • 1 cebolla trozada. • 5 ajíes amarillos grandes trozados. • 4 galletas de soda. • 150 gramos de maní tostado. • 150 gramos de queso fresco. • 2 ramas de huacatay. • ½ taza aceite. • 1 cucharadita de ajo molido. • ½ taza leche evaporada. • 150 gramos de colas de camarón tostadas. • Sal y pimienta al gusto. • 3 huevos duros para decorar. • 6 hojas de lechuga para decorar. • 6 aceitunas para decorar. • 6 trocitos de queso fresco para decorar.

1. Heat the skillet with oil and mix in the onion, salt, pepper, garlic, chilli, and huacatay leaves. 2. Fry the onions until they are transparent. 3. Let stand and liquefy along with cheese, milk, soda crackers, peanuts and shrimp tails to form a creamy paste. If necessary add a little more milk or water. 4. Salt to taste. 5. Garnish the plates with lettuce leaf on top and place two halved potatoes (in each plate) and pour the cream. 6. Cut a hard-boiled egg in half and place it on the plate as a decoration. 7. Finally, spread the pieces of cheese.

PREPARACIÓN: 1. Calentar la sartén con aceite e incorporar la cebolla, sal, pimienta, ajos, ajíes y hojas de huacatay. 2. Dorar hasta que las cebollas estén transparentes. 3. Dejar reposar y licuar el preparado junto con el queso, leche, galletas, el maní y las colas de los camarones hasta formar una pasta cremosa. Si fuese necesario añadir un poco más de leche o agua. 4. Sal al gusto. 5. Adornar los platos con la hoja de lechuga y encima colocar dos papas partidas a la mitad (en cada plato) y verter la crema. 6. Cortar un huevo duro a la mitad y colocarlo en el plato a manera de decoración. 7. Finalmente esparcir los trozos de queso.

Sound like some kind of fun place? You’re right. The first one in the U.S. opened by Nashville entertainer John Rich with a 2nd to be in Nashville later in the year. Redneck Riviera said hello in January with an awe inspiring and unlimited view of the strip, with garage door windows that can open in good weather, the perfect viewing place for fireworks, on the 2nd floor of the shops in front of Bally’s. Best way to get in, over the bridge in front of the hotel. Redneck is country all the way, from the cowboy boots at the front door, to the tables, one with part of a guitar to the beautiful bedazzled rotating saddle hanging from the ceiling. Redneck will seat 150, and 30 at the bar. A 2nd bar made of beer cans shaped like the American Flag will be happy to treat all active military to a free drink. Just show your I.D. It’s a total salute from John to all of the military, and tells you what a patriot he is. There is entertainment Thursday thru Sunday and plenty of dancing, with hooting and hollering from the stage. Need to take a bathroom break? Great fun there. The women’s sinks are made of tires, I hear the men’s uses beer kegs. If you wish food, Wahlburgers right below can send up the best of chicken and turkey sandwiches. Their Thanksgiving burger is fantastic. Media night signaled John’s friends to come out, including Marie Osmond, Gretchen Wilson and the Tenors of Rock, to name a few. Open 11:00 a.m., -4:00 a.m. Come on out with your boots on and have a great time.

Salute has the most amazing new chef. Luke Palladino has totally revamped the menu and expanded the experience of Italian Dining. Chef Palladino’s training consists of four years of cooking and living in Italy, totally immersing himself with some of the most renowned chefs. He has also owned restaurants in Atlantic City and New Jersey. “Re-inventing the menu here at Salute has been a great lesson in cultivating originality, while allowing me to draw on a wealth of experiences to create something at once classic, yet different”, Palladino says. Brian Massie, Clique Hospitality’s Executive Chef and Partner, is confident in Chef Palladino’s expertise and creative culinary choices. “Luke is the man who will take Salute to a new level,” asserts Massie. The restaurant has bright, modern fixtures, with a burnt-orange color scheme, and leather accents. The food and service are fabulous, truly one of the nicest restaurants in Las Vegas from someone who eats out 5 nights a week. Suggestions to order are the Ahi Tuna Crudo, with blood orange aioli, calabrese chill oil, ligurian olives, and crisp shallots, or you wish a hotel antipasti, the crisp squash blossoms, filled with ricotta, mozzarella & parmigiana, pistachio pesto, all deep fried. The handcrafted pastas are amazing. We were served Salute Signature pasta, spaghetti alla chittara “cacio e pepe”, with Roman style pepper and cheese sauce at our table. A 30-lb. block of pecorino was wheeled out, and the waiter flamed the wheel until the cheese bubbled. He then tossed the pasta in the heated cheese until it was smothered and was a feature dish. I also recommend the Tagliatelle Bolognese, with veal, pork & beef ragu. For a main course the grilled veal chop, or the bistecca alla Fiorentina for two, consisted of a 32-oz. prime porterhouse, crisp fingerlings, and black garlic-porcini butter. Side dishes to try are roasted root vegetables and crisp Brussel sprouts with aged balsamic vinegar. The warm Nutella cake for dessert is a must have. El mesero flameo parte de una rueda de 30lb de pecorino hasta que burbujeo, entonces agrego la pasta hasta integrarla al queso caliente. También recomiendo el tagliatelle boloñesas, con ternera, cerdo y ragú de carne. Para un plato principal la chuleta de ternera a la parrilla, o la bistecca alla fiorentina para dos, consistente en un Prime Porterhouse de 32-oz., crujientes fingerlings, y mantequilla negra con ajo-porcini. Los tubérculos asados y las coles de Bruselas crujientes con vinagre balsámico añejo son excelentes platos para acompañar. El cálido pastel de Nutella es el postre ideal. Women are always looking for a makeup base that does not look heavy, but at the same time covers face imperfections such as freckles, spots, acne marks, etc. In search of the perfect makeup foundation, which remains intact longer on our face, we often make mistakes such as using too much translucent powder, placing too many layers of the product, etc. Today, I want to give you some little tips that will help you make the base stay longer, whether it is soft, medium, or high coverage. 1. Try to exfoliate the face skin once every week or two. 2. With the face clean, apply a cleaning tonic with a piece of damp cotton all over your face and neck. 3. Then apply, in the U face area, an ideal serum for your skin type because this area is drier and therefore the makeup base is absorbed faster. The U face area comprises: from the temple of your right side, through the jaw and chin, to the temple of your left side. 4. Next, apply moisturizing cream evenly over the entire face, with emphasis on the lower eyelids and dark circles area. When applying the cream on these parts, you must do it from the inside out, bringing the movement to the temples. Do not forget to apply on the neck. 5. Apply a primer or prebase. 6. Finally, apply your usual foundation always in the facial hair direction, to prevent it from rising. You can also extend a little under the jaw towards the neck to blur it softly. 7. In case you need to apply corrector for dark circles, use a cream or liquid because if you have very dry skin it may crack a bit. A trick to prevent your corrector from marking the expression lines is to mix it with a little of your moisturizer before applying it. If your skin is oily, it is unlikely that will happen. 8. Seal with a little translucent powder. Only a little. 9. Apply a coat of spray makeup sealer. The idea is to moisturize the face well so that your skin does not absorb the makeup base too soon. This will last between 8 to 10 hours, approximately. I hope these tips will help you a lot. Siempre las mujeres buscamos una base de maquillaje que no se vea pesada, pero que a la vez nos cubra algunas imperfecciones del rostro como: pecas, manchas, marcas de acné, entre otras. En la búsqueda de la base de maquillaje ideal, que permanezca por más tiempo intacta sobre nuestro rostro, solemos cometer errores, como por ejemplo; ponernos exceso de polvo traslúcido, colocarnos demasiadas capas del producto, etc. Hoy te quiero dar unos pequeños tips que te ayudarán a que esa base; sea de cobertura suave, media o alta, te dure más tiempo. 1.- Con el rostro limpio y si es posible exfoliado una vez cada una o dos semanas, debes aplicar de manera prolija, con un pedazo de algodón húmedo, por todo tu rostro y cuello; un tónico de limpieza. 2.- Luego, aplicas, en la zona U de la cara, un suero ideal para tu tipo de piel; pues es la zona que se reseca más, y por ende la base de maquillaje se absorbe más rápido en esas partes. La zona U del rostro comprende: desde la sien de tu lado derecho, pasando por la mandíbula y mentón, hasta la sien de tu lado izquierdo. 3.- El paso siguiente es colocar crema hidratante en todo el rostro, de manera uniforme, haciendo énfasis en los párpados inferiores y zona de ojeras. Al aplicar la crema en estas partes, debes hacerlo de adentro hacia afuera, llevando el movimiento hasta las sienes. No olvides aplicar en el cuello. 4.- Aplica un primer o prebase. 5.- Finalmente, aplicas tu base de maquillaje habitual, siempre en sentido del vello facial, para evitar que éste se levante. También extiendes un poco debajo de la mandíbula hacia el cuello y vas difuminando suavemente. 6.- En caso necesites aplicar corrector de ojeras, de preferencia que sea en crema o líquido; ya que si tienes la piel muy seca, puede que la piel se agriete un poco. Un truco para que tu corrector no marque las líneas de expresión, es mezclarlo con un poco de tu crema hidratante antes de aplicarlo. Si tu piel es grasa, es poco probable que te suceda. 7.- Sellas con un poco de polvo traslúcido. Solamente un poco. 8.- Aplicas una capa de sellador de maquillaje en spray. La idea está en hidratar bien el rostro, para que tu piel no absorba la base de maquillaje demasiado pronto. Con esto te durará entre 8 a 10 horas, apróximadamente. New serious obsession ALERT!!!! colored lens sunnies! Last weekend I went to San Francisco with my friends. We love to visit different places, try the food, visit the town, learn a little about the culture of the place, and of course check out the fashion trends. I am always looking for inspiration everywhere I go. Before my trip, I found these amazing shades that look like I had rescued them from my grandma’s “memory trunk.” Well, not really! Let’s say they are a modern version of them because they are back!!!! and I am crazy about them!!! Everyone thought I was absolutely out of my mind for wanting to jump on that bandwagon, but once they saw how I can accessorize them... They couldn’t even resist to buy some for themselves.

It is believed that blue or green tinted glasses could correct impaired vision. Meares-Irlen syndrome, more commonly known as “visual stress” is actually very common. Stars like Johnny Deep need to use them even though we might believe it is a fashion statement. About 10% of people with dyslexia are believed to have visual stress. Also, many people with autism, ADHD, migraine, photosensitive epilepsy, and multiple sclerosis, as well as stroke victims, suffer from visual stress and colored lenses help them a great deal. Quite honestly, I would not mind rocking blue or green shades around the office! I have the worst vision, so these would 100% benefit me or anyone else who might need them. Yellow or brown shades were used for people with Syphilis in the 1900’s and early 1920’s because of how sensitive their eyes were to the light, but massive production started in 1929 after Sam Foster created Foster Grant and became really popular in Hollywood and later during World War II when Ray Ban created the anti-glare aviator style sunglasses. Those were supposed to be wore to protect the eyes from the sun light but more and more that style of sunglasses became a fashion statement.

Este tipo de lentes son más que una moda y hace mucho que se usan. ¡Aquí les cuento un poco de la historia de los lente de colores! Se cree que las gafas de color azul o verde podrían corregir la visión, especialmente con el síndrome de Meares-Irlen, más comúnmente conocido como “estrés visual” que es en realidad muy común. Estrellas como Johnny Deep necesitan usarlas aunque muchos crean que es cuestión de moda.

Antes de mi viaje encontré unos lentes de sol que parecerían que los hubiera rescatado del “baúl de recuerdos” de mis abuelas. ¡Bueno en realidad no! Digamos que son una versión moderna de ellos porque han vuelto a estar de moda y estoy loca por ellos. Todo el mundo pensó que yo estaba absolutamente fuera de mi al querer usar algo así, pero una vez que vieron cómo los puedo combinar no pudieron resistirse a comprar algunos para ellos mismos.

Se cree que alrededor del 10% de las personas con dislexia padecen de estrés visual. También muchas personas con autismo, ADHD, migraña, epilepsia fotosensible y esclerosis múltiple, así como las víctimas de accidente cerebrovascular tienen tendencia a sufrir de estrés visual y lentes de color les ayudan mucho. Sinceramente, no me importaría usar lentes azules o verdes en la oficina, mas aun si me ayudan con la vision. Tengo la peor visión así que me beneficiaria 100% usarlos. Los lentes amarillos o marrones se prescribieron a las personas con sífilis en los años 1900 y principios de 1920 debido a la sensibilidad que tiene sus ojos a la luz, pero la producción masiva comenzó en 1929 después que Sam Foster creó Foster Grand y se hizo muy popular en Hollywood y más tarde durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial cuando Ray Ban creó las gafas de sol del estilo aviador anti-reflejo. Se suponía que se usarían para proteger los ojos de la luz del sol, pero cada vez más el estilo de las gafas de sol se convirtió en una tendencia de moda.

Embroidery is a very ancient form of art that can be dated back to the Cro-Magnon days. Historically sewing can be traced as far back as to the Iron Age when man discovered the art of making clothes from pieces of fur. Embroidery grew later around the 5th century during periods of war, clothes had to be patched and repaired. It developed into the embellishing of clothes using stitches, beads, stones, bones and seeds. It was used by the ancient Egyptians, Babylonians and Hebrews as an art form. These skills eventually migrated to other Countries like Persia, India, China and Japan. Byzantium medieval and Baroque Europe were heavily influenced by this form of art, which was used as a mark of status, and traditional techniques were passed from generations to generations. Initially, the embroidery process used to tailor, stitch and repair the cloth was done by hand. The fabrics and yarns used in traditional embroidery, from wool lines to silk, have been used for thousands of years. Today, the embroidery thread can be made of cotton, rayon, organza and many other exotic materials. A lot of fashion designers use embroidery machines that can make beautiful works, but, however, hand embroidering is still the most powerful and expensive embroidery. Sometimes it takes a month or more to embroider a beautiful gown or hand embellish a Swing Suit full of different elements.

Históricamente la costura se remonta a la Edad del Hierro cuando el hombre descubrió el arte de confeccionar ropa a partir de pedazos de piel. Con el tiempo se desarrolló en el embellecimiento de ropa con costuras, cuentas, piedras, huesos y semillas. Fue utilizado por los antiguos egipcios, babilonios y hebreos como una forma de arte. Estas habilidades finalmente migraron a otros países como Persia, India, China y Japón. La Europa bizantina, medieval y barroca fue fuertemente influenciada por esta forma de arte que fue utilizada como símbolo de estatus y las técnicas tradicionales fueron transmitidas de generación en generación. Inicialmente, el proceso de bordado para adaptar, coser y reparar la ropa se hizo a mano. Los tejidos e hilados con lanas y sedas en el bordado tradicional se han utilizado durante miles de años. Windsurfing is to ride wind gusts and fly over the surface of the water. It all starts with the assembly and tempering of the rigging on the shore of the lake, while the breeze refreshes the noon. The sail adopts its curves and exhibits its colors like a peacock.

El windsurf es montar ráfagas de viento y volar sobre la superficie del agua. Todo comienza con el armado y templado de los aparejos a la orilla del lago, mientras la brisa refresca el mediodía. La vela va adoptando sus curvas y exhibe sus colores como un pavo real.

Once the equipment is ready the muscles are stretched and the conditions are evaluated: The direction and intensity of the wind, the frequency of the bursts, the blue or cloudy sky, the “sheep” or foam of waves in the water.

The more comfortable you are with the equipment and the more attentive the wind changes the better the performance. How does it feels? Freedom, speed, control, balance, contact with Mother Earth’s fluid: ind and water. THE EQUIPMENT The windsurfing equipment consists of a board, a mast, a mast foot - from the sail to the board - an extension between the mast foot and the mast - the boom – grip bow for the navigator, a harness, and the most colorful, the sail. The characteristics and size of the equipment vary according to the weight and level of learning of the navigator. LEARNING To learn this sport you only need to feel like it. Most windblown lakes and beaches have schools and water sports. For example, in the municipality of El Darien (Valle del Cauca, Colombia) is the Calima Lake, which is characterized by a navigable wind throughout the year, unlike other parts of the world (Australia, Italy, Greece, United States and Spain) where the wind is conditioned by the seasons. A basic windsurfing course can last between twelve and sixteen hours, divided into several days. EL EQUIPO El equipo de windsurf consiste en una tabla, un mástil, un pie de mástil –agarre de la vela a la tabla-, una extensión – entre el pie de mástil y el mástil-, el boom o botavara –arco de agarre para el navegante-, un arnés, y lo más vistoso, la vela. Las características y el tamaño del equipo varían según el peso y el nivel de aprendizaje del navegante. APRENDIZAJE Para aprender este deporte sólo se necesita tener ganas. La mayoría de lagos y playas marinas atravesadas por viento cuentan con escuelas y deportes acuáticos. Por ejemplo, en el municipio de El Darién (Valle del Cauca, Colombia) se encuentra el lago Calima, el cual se caracteriza por contar con viento navegable durante todo el año, a diferencia de otras partes del mundo (Australia, Italia, Grecia, Estados Unidos y España) donde el viento está condicionado por las estaciones. Un curso básico de windsurf puede durar entre doce y dieciséis horas, dividido en varias jornadas. Al igual que en deportes afines, el desarrollo está sujeto a la calidad del instructor y a la habilidad y entrega del aprendiz. Esto para disfrutar una primera etapa; a partir de ahí el windsurfista sigue aprendiendo y afinando la técnica con el tiempo. Hay niños que comienzan el curso a los seis o siete años; esto facilita el desarrollo, pero no quiere decir que una persona de mediana edad no pueda aprender. Eso sí, viene bien tener buen equilibrio y fuerza en los brazos, los hombros y la espalda.

It’s a fact that women have had low participation in the letters throughout history. It was not until the end of the last century (50 or 60 years ago,) that we began to hear their voices and read their first letters. The masculine gender has dominated, at least in the leading role, areas of the academy, of the sciences, politics, and economics among others; occupying for years the seats of power, especially the power of the word. For not very clear reasons, women were left behind in a social role of passivity, that of listening attentively without interrupting, not arguing, not making sharp statements, not asking indiscreet questions. A role that was prolonged incredibly for several centuries. Extending the nonsense, it seems that even the origin of language, understood as naming things, would have been mostly men. Whether they were Neanderthals or hominids, they had to be males who named the first objects (“when things still lacked a name”). Proof of this is that language encompasses tangible objects, to a lesser extent intangible, one phenomenon, and relatively few feelings and emotions; topics of special interest and wide knowledge among women.

Es un hecho que la mujer ha tenido baja participación en las letras a lo largo de la historia. Hubo que esperar hasta finales del siglo pasado (hace 50 o 60 años) para comenzar a escuchar su voz y leer sus primeras letras. El género masculino ha dominado, por lo menos en protagonismo, áreas de la academia, de las ciencias, política y economía entre otros; ocupando durante años los asientos del poder, sobre todo el poder de la palabra. Por causas no muy claras, la mujer quedó rezagada a un papel social de pasividad, aquel de escuchar con atención sin interrumpir, no discutir, no hacer afirmaciones tajantes, no hacer preguntas indiscretas. Un rol que se prolongo increíblemente durante varios siglos. Extendiendo el despropósito, pareciera que hasta el origen del lenguaje, comprendido como el ponerle nombre a las cosas, hubiera sido mayoritariamente cosa de hombres. Hayan sido los neandertales o los homínidos, tuvieron que ser machos quienes nombraron los primeros objetos (“cuando las cosas aun carecían de nombre”). Prueba de ello es que el lenguaje abarca objetos tangibles, en menor proporción intangibles, uno que otro fenómeno, y de manera relativamente escasa sentimientos y emociones; temas de especial interés y amplio conocimiento entre las féminas.

Had they been women who baptized their perception of the world, there would be a wider vocabulary for those turbulences of the soul, and probably even a more precise - but more beautiful - for everything else. It is right there, with regard to emotions and feelings, where even today we find great voids, where “there are no words” to describe or accurately represent what is meant. Psychology and poetry have taken the first steps in this direction, but much remains to be done. There is a world to be discovered in truly feminine language. Men has a pragmatic and too logical speech. Women has an indirect and metaphorical, that needs image, feelings, the poetry. Although in our society these forms can be considered as signs of weakness. Society is wrong with this judgement. On the other hand, it’s proven that women to miracles (even with this masculine language) when they dare to speak up or write; as an example, there are: Margarite Yourcenar (Memoirs of Hadrian), Oriana Fallaci (A man), Virginia Wolf (The Waves), Angeles Mastreta (Mal de Amores), and why not, Isabel Allende (Eva Luna). Fortunately, gender “Equality” achieved through evolution finally gives the conditions of law, attention and valuation to female discourse, which extends to writing. Surely from now on, the female ink will cover more and more paper with representations worth applauding. I hope that in addition to allowing them - or themselves to take the space of letters - write as they are and not imitating men, enriching the discourse based on gender differences. That equality of opportunity and rights open the field to difference in expression. May they live and write, when necessary, from femininity. This is from the topics to be discussed, the tone, the style and at best, perhaps introducing the language that is still quite foreign to us; the feminine language, that created from its perception of the world.

De haber sido mujeres quienes bautizaran su percepción del mundo, existiría un vocabulario más amplio para aquellas turbulencias del alma, y probablemente, hasta uno más preciso –sino más bello- para todo lo demás. Es justo ahí, respecto a las emociones y sentimientos, donde aún a hoy encontramos grandes vacios, donde “no hay palabras” para describir o representar con exactitud lo que se quiere decir. La psicología y la poesía han dado los primeros pasos en este sentido, pero falta mucho por recorrer. Hay un mundo por descubrir en el lenguaje verdaderamente femenino. El hombre tiene un discurso pragmático y demasiado lógico. La mujer tiene uno indirecto y metafórico, que necesita de la imagen, de los sentimientos, de la poesía. Aunque en nuestra sociedad estas formas puedan ser consideradas como signos de debilidad. Mal está la sociedad en este juicio. Por otro lado, está comprobado que las mujeres hacen maravillas (hasta con este lenguaje masculino) cuando se atreven alzar la voz o la pluma; a manera de ejemplo están: Margarite Yourcenar (Memorias de Adriano), Oriana Fallacci (Un hombre), Virginia Wolf (Las Olas), Angeles Mastreta (Mal de amores), y por qué no, hasta Isabel Allende (Eva Luna). Por fortuna, la “Igualdad” de género lograda a través de la evolución hace que finalmente estén dadas las condiciones de derecho, atención y valoración frente al discurso femenino, lo cual se extiende a la escritura. Con seguridad que de aquí en adelante, la tinta femenina ira cubriendo más y más papel con representaciones dignas de aplaudir. Ojalá además de darle cabida a ellas -o ellas mismas tomarse el espacio de las letras - escriban siendo ellas y no imitando a los hombres, enriqueciendo el discurso a partir de las diferencias de género. Que la igualdad de oportunidades y derechos abra campo a la diferencia en la expresión. Ojala que vivan y escriban, cuando haga falta, desde la feminidad. Esto es desde los temas a tratar, el tono, el estilo y en el mejor de los casos, quizá introduciendo el lenguaje que nos es aún bastante ajeno; el lenguaje femenino, aquel creado a partir de su percepción del mundo.

y mujeres, como humanidad femenina, debemos expandirnos en ese lenguaje metafórico, porque sólo así podremos ser poetas y poetisas de la vida, cuyos poemas no sean instantes enterrados en una hoja de papel, sino que cada acontecimiento, cada pensamiento, cada expresión, cada momento cotidiano pueda estar envuelto de la magia de la poesía… La poesía de comunicarse, la poesía de vivir. Sólo cuando somos poetas, somos espejos del ancho mundo. Porque ese lenguaje metafórico es el que más se acerca a Lo Divino. Dios no nos dice las cosas directamente, nos las muestra a través de signos, de casualidades, de circunstancias, de instantes, de belleza… Así debería ser el lenguaje del ser humano, de hombres y mujeres, para que la palabra, por fin, deje de ser un dardo; para que la conversación deje de ser un motivo de conflicto; para que el mal entendido no sea ni mal, ni entendido, sino que sea un bien sentido

You need to talk, you need to say it, even if you have to cry, even if you have to yell, even if you have to stop every five words to take a deep breath. Even if you have to write it in pen and then read it in a very low voice, even if you can only type it for so long before you erase it all. After all, a computer can be erased or wiped out your mind will not easily do the same. Sooner or later you have to let it out, you have to talk, and you have to. I know you do not want to say it, I know it’s hard, I know you’re afraid to relive every moment of it, through your words, but tell me: is it really dead? Are the memories really disintegrated or only buried for a moment. Is it just hidden in the deepest part of your mind while you try to pretend that it did not happen. While you try to convince yourself that it wasn´t real, but in the end, it is difficult to fight the truth, knowing, feeling, and remembering it. It did happen, and no, it is not over, not yet. It sleeps in your mind, but it wakes constantly. It rises and crawls in the mind, it constantly nudges you, the memory, the recall of what did happen. It is there, the memory is there, because I lived it. The memory of what happened lives, sleeps, moves. It rests sometimes, but does not come out, does not disappear. So maybe, just maybe, saying it, admitting it, will help slowly get it out. Maybe just maybe putting it into words will heal more than it hurts. Although the scar remains, although the silhouette of what happened never goes away, perhaps the words instead of reviving what happened will help to kill the pain. So yes, I have to say it aloud, even if it hurts, even if I do not want to remember, it is not something that will ever be forgotten. It did happen…he raped me.

Tienes que hablar, tienes que decirlo, aunque tengas que llorar, aunque tengas que gritar, aunque tengas que parar cada cinco palabras para respirar profundamente. Aunque tengas que escribirlo en pluma y luego leerlo en vos baja o aunque solo lo tecles en la computadora y luego lo borres. En la computadora lo puedes borrar, en la mente no fácil se puede quitar. Tarde o temprano tienes que sacarlo, tienes que hablarlo, tienes que. Sé que no lo quieres decir, sé que es difícil, sé que te da miedo revivir cada momento de eso, a través de tus palabras, pero dime: ¿realmente está muerto? Realmente el recuerdo se desintegro o solo se enterró por un momento. Solo lo escondiste en la parte más profunda de tu mente para poder intentar pretender que no sucedió. Para intentar convencerte que no fue real, pero al final es difícil luchar contra la verdad, sabiendo, sintiendo y recordando que sí. Si sucedió, y no, no se acabó, aun no, aun en tu mente duerme el recuerdo, pero despierta constantemente. Se levanta y se arrastra en la mente, el recuerdo de lo que paso. Está ahí, el recuerdo está ahí, porque lo viví. La memoria de lo que sucedió vive, duerme, se mueve, descansa a veces, pero no sale, no desaparece. Así que tal vez, solo tal vez, decirlo, admitirlo, ayude a poco a poco sacarlo a que lentamente se vaya. Tal vez, solo tal vez el ponerlo en palabras, en vez de herir ayude a aliviar. Aunque la cicatriz quede, aunque la silueta de lo que sucedió nunca se vaya, tal vez las palabras en vez de revivir lo que sucedió ayuden a matar el dolor. Así que sí, si tengo que decirlo en voz alta, aunque duela, aunque no quiera recordar, no es algo que se va a olvidar, jamás. Si sucedió... el me violo.

I had never realized how important it is for men to understand the character of their partner, in situations that the Alpha women showed by nature, until my partner told me: In this relationship you are the male! Because as a good woman Alfa my instinctively I take the initiative and I tend to take the reins in the matter without realizing that I have been disrespecting the social roles that determine that in pairs relationships men are the ones who make the decisions. Alpha woman is one who unwittingly or realizes, is strong in every sense, who makes decisions all the time and is the one who leads the baton both in the house and the professional field including in intimacy with her partner and at the same time Is a woman in every sense of the word. I’m going to focus on this last issue because, yes, gentlemen, we exist ... and you know it and even if you do not dare to admit it, you like us to be the one who commands the bed, the sofa or the car ... No matter where it is!

Definitivamente existen tabúes y hombres que no han sabido entender a sus mujeres, pero hoy en día creo que las excusas y barreras deberían quedarse atrás y dar paso a nuevas oportunidades que al fin y al cabo harán felices a ambos y también más de un compañero en el trabajo lo agradecerá. No está mal exigir, buscar y experimentar, al contrario, está comprobado que ayuda enormemente a la relación de pareja y tampoco está mal que una mujer sea quien en la mayoría de las veces tome la iniciativa o lleve el ritmo de ese encuentro que no tiene por qué tener un solo líder. Las mujeres Alfa lo hacemos por naturaleza y sin darnos cuenta. Knowing that you are pregnant, especially if you have planned it, is wonderful. To bring a human being into the world is the most beautiful and longed for thing, which most women desire; but those who are not yet mothers, we always ask ourselves, how difficult is the process?

Fourth month: the diet to lower those uncomfortable pounds does not work. You just start to doubt. Immediately, you run to see the calendar. You look month by month, and you do not remember what your last period was. Your only choice to go to the pharmacy and buy three pregnancy tests. You think that one can go wrong, the second is to confirm, and the third is to give you a heart attack; ha, ha, ha! You take the first test and it comes out positive. Your breath stops and you try to question the test, so you proceed to do the second. Irreparably, it also comes out positive. Already, your breathing is accompanied by sweating and accelerated palpitations. You take the third and final test, which also comes out positive. You go to bed, you sit down and you cannot believe you’ll be a mother. Then a series of fears come to you; “I cannot finish my career,” “my husband does not earn enough,” “I do not earn enough,” “I will have to postpone my studies,” “my body is going to swell,” “will my husband be happy to be a father?” All these doubts overwhelm the woman, but many do not confess to it. Fifth month: your feet are swollen, you crave food that you would never have thought of. A friend, for example, was eating only Ceviche to the point that her husband avoided giving her many kisses because her breath was onion and fish. Horror! Sixth month: you have many hot flashes, but at the same time, because of the hormones that are in turmoil, your body asks you to have immediate sex. The husband with much fear looks for the best position, but they do not succeed, then you remain unsatisfied, with hot, swollen feet, rare cravings, therefore, you begin the bad temper. Seventh month: the belly no longer allows you to bathe well. You cannot shave easily, so you ask for help from your husband or boyfriend; unfortunately, he does not know how to depilate a woman, so now you look like “Chewbacca” from “Star Wars;” obviously, it is only if you are hairy, because there are also some privileged who are hairless and do not need hair removal. Resigned to being hairy for a few more months, you feel ugly and you look continuously at the mirror, longing for the body you had before you got pregnant. Eighth month: urinate every moment. You also have stinging in the belly, but you avoid

Y si eres de las que no siente náuseas y mareos, entonces no tienes la más mínima idea que puedes estar gestando. Cuarto mes; la dieta para bajar esos incómodos kilos, no funciona. Recién empiezas a dudar. Inmediatamente, corres a ver el calendario. Miras mes a mes, y no recuerdas cuál fue tu último período. No te queda más que ir a la farmacia y comprar tres pruebas de embarazo. Piensas que una puede salir errada, la segunda es para confirmar y la tercera es para que te dé un infarto, ¡ja, ja, ja! Te haces la primera prueba y sale positivo. Se te detiene la respiración y tratas de poner en duda el test, por lo que procedes a hacer el segundo descarte. Irremediablemente, también sale positivo. Ya la respiración viene acompañada de sudor y palpitaciones aceleradas. Tomas el tercer y definitivo test, el cual también sale positivo. Te diriges a la cama, te sientas y no puedes creer que serás madre. Entonces una serie de miedos llegan a ti; “no podré acabar mi carrera”, “mi esposo no gana lo suficiente”, “yo no gano lo suficiente”, “tendré que postergar mis estudios”, “mi cuerpo se va a hinchar”, “¿Mi esposo estará feliz de ser padre?”. Todas estas dudas abruman a la mujer, pero muchas no lo confiesan. Quinto mes; los pies se te inflaman, tienes antojos de cosas que jamás hubieses pensando. Una amiga por ejemplo, se le dio por comer solamente Ceviche; a tal punto que su esposo evitaba darle muchos besos, ya que su aliento era a cebolla y pescado. ¡Horror! Sexto mes; tienes muchos bochornos, pero al mismo tiempo, por las hormonas alborotadas, tu cuerpo te pide tener sexo ipsofacto. El esposo con mucho miedo busca la mejor posición, pero no lo logran, entonces te quedas insatisfecha, con calores, pies hinchados, antojos raros; por ende, te empieza el mal genio. Séptimo mes; la barriga ya no te permite bañar bien. No te puedes depilar con facilidad, por lo que pides ayuda a tu esposo o novio; infortunadamente, él no sabe depilar a una mujer, entonces, ahora pareces “Chewbacca” de Star Wars; obviamente solo es en caso seas velluda, porque también hay algunas privilegiadas que son lampiñas y no necesitan depilación alguna. Resignada a que estarás peluda por unos meses más; te sientes fea, y te miras contínuamente al espejo, añorando el cuerpo que tenías antes de salir embarazada. Octavo mes; orinas a cada instante. Tienes incontinencia, por lo que empiezas a usar pañales para adultos, ¡Es el colmo! Te empiezan a picar los pezones; además, tus senos están como dos

When the time comes, they tell you that it will be a natural childbirth. You’ve been laboring for a whole day, but you have not yet dilated. You’re still at home. The night before you started with the pains, you could not sleep, nor sit, could not stand any position. You spent, literally, all night walking in the hallway of your house. It wasn’t until 10 a.m. the next day that they take you to the hospital. You are already insufferable. You arrive at the hospital at about 10:30 am and are sent to check in. They tell you that you have only dilated 4 cm, but seeing you in so much pain, they decide to take you to the delivery room. They give you a pilates ball and they tell you to get the epidural. You want to be brave and do not accept it. After an hour, you crawl in pain until about 3 pm, then you agree to get the epidural. The pain disappears by magic. They break the placenta bag because the mucous plug had expelled.

Llegado el momento, te dicen que va a ser parto natural. Llevas un día entero de labor, pero aún no dilatas. Sigues en tu casa. La noche anterior empezaste con los dolores, no podías dormir, ni sentarte, no aguantabas ninguna posición. Te pasaste, literalmente, toda la noche caminando en el pasillo de tu casa. Fue hasta las 10 a.m., del día siguiente, que recién te llevan al hospital. Ya estás con un carácter insoportable. Llegas al hospital como a la 10:30 a.m., y te envían a chequeo. Te dicen que apenas has dilatado 4 cm, pero al verte con tanto dolor, deciden ingresarte a la sala de parto. Te dan un balón de pilates, y te dicen que te pondrán la epidural. Te quieres hacer la valiente y no aceptas. Después de una hora, te arrastras de dolor, y no es sino hasta las 3 p.m., que accedes a que te pongan la epidural. El dolor desaparece por arte de magia. Te rompen la bolsa de placenta, pues tú, ni el tapón mucoso habías expulsado.

You are in the delivery room from 3:15 p.m. and every two hours the doctor comes to see how dilated you are. At approximately 9 p.m., you have dilated to 10 cm; they start with the natural labor attempt, but you cannot because the baby does not go down. At 3 am, on the second day at the hospital, the doctor decides to have a Cesarean section. During the C-section you are trembling, the worst is when you are cut; although it is true, it does not hurt, because you are numb, but you still feel all the movements in your womb; you feel the cuts, you feel like your skin stretches, etc.

You hug him and realize the suffering was worth it. Love is so great that you forget what you’ve been through.

In conclusion, we can say that not all women are prepared to be a mother. Some people say that all women have a maternal instinct, that is false. There are some who have a criminal instinct and some who have no instinct - Plop! - And not to mention men. I do not think they have the enough guts to withstand the whole process of pregnancy, much less the delivery itself. Recall that the vast majority, feel like they are going to die with a simple cold. Men are supposed to be the strong sex, but I really do not think so. It is good to clarify, that not all women go through the same thing. This experience is one of many, so if you have decided to be a mother, your pregnancy is probably not going to be as complicated as the one I describe in this article; but, in fact it requires great responsibility, sacrifice, patience, love, and a lot of expense. You will have to think about saving for education (kindergarden, school, high school, and university), clothes, food, diapers, etc. And if you have decided to be a single mother, then remember that the whole process is likely to confront you alone. Having a child is not a matter of “accident” but a matter of planning. Now I ask you, do you want to be a mother or do you think about it a thousand times?

A la semana te quitan los puntos del corte de la cesárea, y lo malo es que la cicatriz se te hizo queloide; pero al final, todo el dolor, malestar, y demás que puedas haber sentido, se te va cuando ves a tu bebé sano, que te mira con esos ojos llenos de ternura y de inocencia. Lo abrazas y el sufrimiento valió la pena. El amor es tan grande que se te olvida lo que has pasado. En conclusión, podemos decir que para ser madre, no todas las mujeres estamos preparadas. Eso que dicen que todas las mujeres tienen instinto maternal, es falso. Hay algunas que tienen instinto criminal y otras tantas que no tienen instinto – ¡Plop! - Y ni que decir de los hombres. No creo que ellos tengan las agallas suficientes para soportar todo el proceso de embarazo, y mucho menos, el parto en sí. Recordemos que la gran mayoría, se sienten morir con un simple resfriado. Los hombres supuestamente son el sexo fuerte, pero realmente no lo creo. Es bueno aclarar, que no todas las mujeres pasan por lo mismo. Esta experiencia es una de tantas, así que si has decidido ser madre, es probable que tu embarazo, no sea tan complicado como el que describo en este artículo; pero de hecho que se requiere de gran responsabilidad, sacrificio, paciencia, amor, y muchísimo gasto. Tendrás que pensar en ahorrar para la educación de tu primogénito (nido, colegio, bachillerato y universidad), ropa, comida, pañales, etc. Y si has decidido ser madre soltera, entonces recuerda que todo el proceso, es probable que lo afrontes sola. Tener un hijo no es cuestión de “accidente”; sino cuestión de planificación. Ahora te pregunto, ¿Quieres ser madre o mejor lo piensas mil veces?

If you want something a little more portable, check out the Seagate Wireless Mobile Storage drive which features 10 hours of battery life and a pocket-friendly design. The 500MB model lists for $130, AU$170 or £110, but I’ve seen it for half that on Amazon. (Prices and availability are very much subject to change.) In an ideal world, iDevices would have expansion slots. In the real world, you can expand by way of external storage. Have you tried one of these products already?

Albert Einstein once said, “It is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge.” This desire to improve lives through education is, in fact, often why many teachers enter the profession. While most educators favor face-to-face time with students, other aspects of the job – like planning and grading – often prevent them from interacting as much as they’d like. Limited by sheer hours in a day, teachers find themselves unable to provide counseling and individual attention that students may need. Research shows that students learn in many different styles, whether it be through physical motion, visual aids, social interactions or auditory exchange. Despite a direct correlation with higher retention rates, today’s teachers often lack the time to provide students with sufficient individual attention. In fact, the average teacher-to-pupil ratio for U.S. public schools is 26.8, further decreasing the amount of individual guidance teachers are able to provide. As a result, this often forces teachers to take a “one size fits all” approach to instruction. Despite these difficulties, recent technological advances may be able to help improve student outcomes and retention. The increased integration of technology into the classroom and, more specifically, developments in machine learning are emerging as major tools. If properly implemented, educators may be able to use these technologies to spend less time on more onerous tasks, like grading, and place more focus on the human element of teaching. Machine learning, a form of artificial intelligence (A.I.) that gives computers the ability to learn, has been steadily advancing for years, and we may soon see its positive affect on education. Today, the United States is ranked 25th in the world in quantity and quality of high school diplomas and is falling behind other nations in math, science and reading. Many education leaders believe machine learning may be the necessary solution to get the U.S. back on track as a world leader in education. As computers become more integrated into the classroom, and online education becomes more widespread, machine learning seems poised to be the future of education. Advancements in technology have given computers the ability to handle many of the tasks that eat up much of teachers’ time. Three capabilities of machine learning stand out as beneficial to improving education: A.I. tutoring, tracking student knowledge and outcomes, and automated grading. Implementing these three functions of machine learning into the classroom could allow teachers to make education a more personal and tailored experience. A.I. tutoring allows teachers the ability to offer students proactive, answer-based tutoring options – with “human” style. Research has shown that teachers have very little time to dedicate to tutoring, even though tutoring has been proven as an effective tool to bolster student retention.

Computers may soon have the capability to answer students’ questions in real time, provide examples, feedback and even monitor student’s growth. Machine learning is also capable of tracking students’ progress to improve outcomes. Learning analytics and adaptive algorithms can give computers the ability to track students’ progress through courses and predict areas where they may struggle in the future. This can help teachers prepare individualized teaching methods to improve the student’s overall outcome in the course. This process of adapting teaching methods to a student’s needs has been done by teachers for years, but machine learning can handle the learning portion and allow teachers to have more time to focus on the student. Finally, machine learning can provide automated, streamlined grading assistance. The Washington Post recently reported that teachers spend more than an hour and a half at home grading homework after nearly eight hours in the classroom. As we know, multiple choice tests have been graded by computers for years, but advancing technology may soon allow computers to even grade more advanced work, like research papers and essays. The technology isn’t quite there yet – computers have difficulty judging logic, persuasion, irony, etc. – but if achievements like ALEKS are any indication, we may soon have computers that can handle nearly all of the rote, mechanical aspects of teaching, allowing educators far more time to spend with their students. We are not yet at the level where technology can completely eliminate some of the more time-consuming tasks for teachers, but recent progress shines light on a very promising future. Teachers already have seen the impact that smarter technology can make in the classroom. Ultimately, machine learning in the classroom can make good teachers great and great teacher even better.
