Renowned international vocalist Martin Nievera, often called the “Concert King” of the Philippines, is a singer, songwriter and actor from the Philippines with a beautiful voice who really takes the stage on his performances delighting the audience with a fabulous combination of old and new songs performed with such style and elegance that bring memories of the old time’s crooners delivering a fantastic evening of music, romance and beauty.

Nievera is the main host for the musical variety show “ASAP” on ABSCBN and in March 2012, he was announced as one of the four celebrity judges for “The X Factor Philippines”.

Nievera has garnered 18 platinum, five double platinum, three triple platinum and one quadruple platinum albums over the course of his musical career.

The Smith Center will celebrate its fifth anniversary in March 2017. They welcomed their 2 millionth patron in December 2016. This impressive number demonstrates how residents across Southern Nevada have embraced the world-class performances it provides.

The Smith Center has tallied numerous achievements since opening to the public. They have presented a total of 1,906 performances, including such renowned artists and groups as the Cleveland Orchestra, Joffrey Ballet, Itzhak Perlman, Wynton Marsalis and Renée Fleming.

They have also received numerous accolades, including being ranked among the top 10 theaters in the world by Pollstar magazine. In addition, The Smith Center has provided numerous education and outreach programs to local students and teachers at no cost to schools.

As part of its five-year celebration, they are asking performanceart lovers to share their “Moments at the Smith Center” to compile an exhibit, 50+ Reasons Why We Love The Smith Center, for display in the lobby of Reynolds Hall.

SWAN LAKE And to continue the celebration, The Smith Center has a fabulous program that started last February when Nevada Ballet Theatre presented a memorable performance of Tchaikovsky's most famous ballet score, Swan Lake, staged by the internationally acclaimed Cynthia Gregory staging her greatest role on a new generation of dancers, accompanied by one of the largest live orchestras ever assembled for an NBT performance, including members of the Las Vegas Philharmonic, in a Smith Center Premiere. Ms. Gregory is celebrated as one of the world's greatest ballerinas and her performance as Odette/Odile led her to be described as America's Prima Ballerina Assoluta by Rudolph Nureyev. This most classic love story of all ballets was such a beautiful, atmospheric, moving experience as NBT's amazing Company Artists graced the stage and fifty musicians filled the theater with Tchaikovsky's glorious score.

Culinary Tips: The Angry Butcher Steakhouse TIPS CULINARIOS: THE ANGRY BUTCHER STEAKHOUSE

THE ANGRY BUTCHER STEAKHOUSE, Sam’s Town new addition with an inspired take on American steakhouse favorites, is surely a new place to try.

Situated directly across from Mystic Falls Park, with waterfalls, birdcalls and animal sounds playing, the atmosphere is definitely peaceful. It has a lovely patio seating area, close to the bar, with a total outdoors feel to it. The restaurant’s design is neutral, with beautiful upholstered private booths, and a spacious display kitchen the length of the restaurant.

Starters of fat oysters, coated in seasoned corn meal and deep-fried, beefsteak tomato salad, and French onion soup, with a hearty blend of beef stock, caramelized onions and sherry win hands down awards.

The Angry Butcher’s cuts include prime rib, on or off the bone, as well as New York and bone-in Ribeye.

The steaks are charbroiled in a Jade Range Broiler at 800 degrees which will sear both sides. There is also a steak au poivre with a USDA prime flat iron topped with green peppercorn cognac sauce with sides of smashed sweet potatoes, Tuscan fried potatoes and white cheddar mac and cheese with smoked bacon.

The Angry Butcher is open daily for social hours from 4-6 p.m. with a special menu of small bites. The main dining room opens at 6 p.m. The Angry Butcher is the latest of the Boyd Gaming properties nationwide, including one of my favorites, Alder & birch Cocktails and Dining at the Orleans, California Noodle House at the California Hotel, Brigg’s Oyster Co and Dupar’s at The Suncoast. Boyd Gaming has 21 gaming entertainment properties located thru out the country.

Situado directamente frente al Mystic Falls Park, con cascadas, canticos de aves y sonidos de animales, la atmosfera es definitivamente pacífica. Tiene un agradable patio con área para sentarse cerca del bar con una total sensación de estar afuera. INGREDIENTS FOR 4 PEOPLE

INGREDIENTES PARA 4 PERSONAS

• 500 grams of white rice • 4 Arepas or Corn dumplings • 4 slice of ripe plantains • 1/2 cup of hogao • 4 cans of pinto beans in water • 1 large or 2 medium avocados • 500 grams of belly pork • 4 Chorizos or sausages • 4 eggs • 500 grams of beef • 1 tsp of garlic paste • 1 tsp of all-purpose seasoning (TRS Caribbean) • Salt and pepper

• 500 gramos de arroz blanco • 4 Arepas • 4 tajadas de platanomaduro • 1/2 taza de hogao • 500 gramos de frijoles (Si son secos dejarlos en remojo la noche anterior), o usar 4 latas de frijoles (Pinto beans) • 1 aguacate grande o 2 medianos • 500 gramos de tocino • 4 chorizos • 4 huevos fritos • 500 gramos de carne de res • 1 cucharadita de ajo • 1 cucharadita de triguisar o condimento completo • Sal y pimienta al gusto

PREPARATION 1. Make white rice as usual see recipe in white rice 2. Make 4 Arepas or Corn cakes see recipe in “Arepas” 3. 4 slices of fried plantain see recipe in “ plantain”.

4. Prepare the Hogao or tomatoes sauce see recipe in “Hogao”.

5. In a saucepan cook the beans, with the hogaoor tomatoes sauce and the all-purpose seasoning (TRS Caribbean) and let then to cook until get a little bit thick.

6. Separately cook the meat with 4 cups of water, garlic, salt and pepper to taste.

7. Remove the meat and let it drain for a few minutes and grate it in a food processor.

8. Cut the belly pork into four portions and cook in salted water for several minutes. Then fry in a little bit of oil.

9. Fry the eggs separately.

10. Divide the avocado into 4 portions.

11. Cook the Chorizos or sausages in water or beer and then fry in a little oil as well.

12. Serve immediately.

NOTE: • This is a delicious dish and complex, but you can omit ingredients and or can be made substitutions.

• This dish is perfect with “refajo” or “sweet beer” as accompaniment.

• Some ingredients can be cooked in advance.

PREPARACIÓN 1. Hacer el arroz blanco como de costumbre ver receta “arroz blanco”.

2. Hacer 4 arepas medianas ver receta en “arepas”.

3. 4 tajadas de platano frito ver receta en “platanos”.

4. Preparar el hogao ver receta en “hogao”.

5. En una olla cocinar los frijoles, junto con el hogao y agregue el triguisar o condimento completo y deje que especen un poco.

6. Cocinar separadamente la carne en 4 tazas de agua, el ajo, sal y pimienta al gusto.

7. Luego sacar la carne y dejarla que escurra por unos minuto y triturarla ligeramente.

8. Cortar el tocino en cuatro porciones y cocinar en agua con sal por unos minutos. Luego freirlo en poco aceite.

9. Freir los huevos por separado.

10. Dividir el aguacate en 4 porciones.

11. Cocinar los chorizos en agua o cerveza y luego freirlos tambien en poco aceite.

12. Servir inmediatamente.

NOTA: • Este es un plato delicioso y complejo, pero se pueden omitir ingredientes y/o se pueden hacer sustitucones.

• Este plato es perfecto en la compañia de “refajo” o cerveza.

•Algunos ingredientes se pueden cocinar con anticipacion.

BORRACHA MEXICAN CANTINA A new Mexican eatery has opened at Green Valley Ranch. Finally, after years without, there is now reasonably priced Mexican food in the area. They have great margaritas, I especially like the passion fruit, which is only $6 and it is very large. The motif is Day of the Dead, as can be seen on the walls, and even the dishes. The bar is large, and happy hour runs from 4-7. Fresh chips and salsa arrive as you take a seat. The Guacamole is marvelous, large chunks which can really make the difference from some of the ones around where it practically runs off a chip. Cheese Fundido is a great starting dish, excellent in flavor. Borracha features a great Mahi fish taco plate, bbq beef sweet tamale cakes, and crispy dynamite shrimp tacos. I usually think of dynamite shrimp as being Chinese, but they do great service with a Mexican flare. There are generous portions of every item. The crab ceviche tacos are one of the best sellers, told to me by our waiter. At dinner hour, there is music. Please leave room for desert here, especially the cinnamon churro ice cream sandwiches or frosted flake rice pudding. Chicken tacos start at $15 for a plate, with $25 for the salmon plate. Finalmente, después de años, ahora hay en la zona comida mexicana a un precio razonable. Tienen margaritas grandes, me gusta especialmente la de granada china de sólo $6 que es muy grande. El tema del diseño es Día de los Muertos, como se puede ver en las paredes e incluso los platos. El bar es grande, y la hora feliz funciona de 4-7. Reciben con frescos totopos fritos y salsa al momento de sentarse a la mesa. El Guacamole es maravilloso, trozos grandes que realmente hacen la diferencia con la competencia, donde prácticamente se acabaña al primer bocado. Cheese Fundido es un gran platillo con excelente sabor para empezar. Borracha ofrece un fantástico plato de tacos de pescado Mahi, tamales de carne en bbq y crujientes tacos de camarón dynamite. Yo creía que el dynamite shrimp era chino, pero aquí le dan excelente toque mexicano. Las porciones son generosas. Según nuestro camarero, los tacos de ceviche de jaiba son uno de los más vendidos. A la hora de la cena hay música. Por favor, deja espacio para el postre, especialmente los sándwiches de churro de canela con helado o el pudín de arroz con hojuelas escarchadas. LEE’S LIQUORS LEE’S LIQUORS annual event was another wonderful success. Moved this time to Thomas & Mack, the whole stadium was filled with hundreds of vendors of wine, beer, hard ciders, tequilas and just about everything that the fabulous Lee’s stocks. Thousands of people turned out from 4-7 to say hello to lots of annual friends and bid on silent auction items. Music played, taco vendors were there for those that needed a little food. Priced at $60, $70 at the door this is a truly worthwhile event. Put it on your list for next year.

Trasladado esta vez al Thomas & Mack, todo el estadio estaba lleno de cientos de vendedores de vino, cerveza, sidras, tequilas y casi todo el fabuloso surtido de Lee. SUSHI ROKU SUSHI ROKU rolled out its winter menu. The Innovative Dining Group has added quite a few new items and recipes for the fall and winter celebrating their 12th year at the Forum Shops. Sushi Roku knows how to put on an elegant experience. All the new dishes are prepared by Executive Chef Haruhiko Takeshita. I started with Brussels Sprouts Chips, fried in truffle oil and dipped with sea salt. Next on the appetizer menu was Hokkaido Scallop Sashimi, on a slice of kiwi, with yuzu jelly, and Maldon sea salt, followed by Hamachi Serrano, with garlic, and yuzu ponzu. Soy Marinated Hawaiian Tuna with kizama wasabi and Filet Mignon Tobanyaki with garlic truffle ponzu, asparagus, and mixed mushrooms. Each dish hits your tongue with tiny explosions of new and exotic tastes like the Truffle Tempura Roll with cucumber, topped with avocado and wasabi truffle soy. Lotus Root Tempura consisted of chopped shrimp, curry salt, chili ponzu dipping sauce. Most of the items will remain into the spring, but as time goes by some will be out of season and of course new ones will appear. Topping off our evening was Pumpkin Bread Pudding, with a Pumpkin Spice Russian cocktail. Some of the new items are not on the menu, so you can ask what the server would suggest. You can dine with a beautiful view of the strip, or just stop by at happy hour after shopping for some appetizers and a relaxing time. With a bar, lounge, large dining area, and a private dining room, holding up to 28, this is a great location for whatever the occasion. You need to see it, absorb its color with your eyes, feel the weight of it in your hand while you hold the glass, smell it as you bring it in and sway it, you toast with it to hear it, and finally taste it, taking in every flavor and feeling in your mouth.

El vino no se bebe, se aprecia, se vive con todos los sentidos.

Necesitas verlo, absorber su color con tus ojos, sentir el peso de él en tu mano mientras sostienes el vaso. CLASSIFICATION Wine can be classified in many ways, by taste, by year of harvest, by the region or country of origin (appellation) or by vinification method. This last classification tends to be the most common one and it is the one you will hear of the most. There is a very wide variety of wines and winemaking styles but there are six very common ones that you need to know of: red wine, white wine, rose wine, sparkling wine and fortified wine as well as dessert wine.

All wines come from grapes, and the inside of all grapes is the same light, translucent, almost white color. Therefore the color comes from the skin of the grapes, or the lack thereof.

The color of the red wine comes from the skin of the black or darker red grapes. White wine is usually made from white grapes but it can also be made from black grapes, but it is made without the skin, that is why there is no color to it.

Rosé wine is also made from dark grapes but there is very minimal contact with the grape skin and therefore it only retains a light, pink-like color.

Fortified wines are called fortified because they have added alcohol, this can cause them to have a higher sugar content and reduces fermentation that is why many are dessert wines, but not all. Sherry is a common fortified wine that is definitely not a dessert wine.

Although many dessert wines are fortified not all of them are and they get their sweeter flavor from grapes that are harvested late or dried on straw mats in order for the grapes to have a higher sugar concentration. Also, in many dessert wines the fermentation process is halted before the yeast turns all the natural grape sugar into alcohol.

Sparkling wines are another type of wine and can be made from any type of grape the only difference is that they contain carbon dioxide bubbles that create that bubbly and fizzy effect. It is very common for people to call sparkling wines champagne but you don´t want to make this mistake.

Champagne is a sparkling wine but not all sparkling wines are Champagne. Champagne is a specific sparkling wine that is made in the region of Champagne, hence the name, and it is usually a lot pricier than other regular sparkling wines.

THE TASTE OF WINE In order to better understand wine taste you need to know what tannin is. Tannin is a substance that occurs naturally in grapes, certain plants and other fruits. It is the grape skin specifically that provides the tannin which gives red wine a stronger sort of bitter, dry or astringent taste. Rosé wine has very little tannin and white wine has even less which is why they are lighter and not very tannic at all. White wine is not described by tannic flavor but by acidity, it tends to be either flat (almost no acidity), soft (low acidity), crisp (refreshing acidity) or tart (high acidity).

Aunque muchos vinos de postre (también conocidos como vinos dulces) son fortificados, no todos lo son. El sabor dulce proviene de las uvas que se cosechan después o se dejan secar para que las uvas tengan una mayor concentración de azúcar. Además, en muchos vinos de postre el proceso de fermentación se detiene antes de que la levadura convierta todo el azúcar de la uva natural en alcohol.

Los vinos espumosos son otro tipo de vino y se puede hacer de cualquier tipo de uva pero a diferencia de los otros vinos esté contiene dióxido de carbono que crea ese efecto burbujeante y efervescente. Es muy común que las personas llamen a los vinos espumosos ¨Champaña¨ pero por favor evita cometer ese error.

La Champaña es un vino espumoso pero no todos los vinos espumosos son Champagne. Champaña es un vino espumoso específico de la región de Champaña, de ahí el nombre, y suele ser mucho más caro que otros vinos espumosos.

EL SABOR DEL VINO Para una mejor comprensión de los sabores de vino necesitas saber que es el tanino. Tanino es una sustancia que se produce naturalmente en las uvas, ciertas plantas y otras frutas. El tanino del vino se produce específicamente por la piel de la uva. Esto es lo que le da al vino tinto un sabor más fuerte, tipo amargo, seco o astringente. El vino rosado tiene muy poco tanino y el vino blanco tiene aún menos, es por eso que son más ligeros y no muy tánicos en lo absoluto. Por consiguiente, el vino blanco no es descrito por el sabor tánico, sino por la acidez, tiende a ser plano (casi sin acidez), acidulado, fresco, o agresivo.

RECOMMENDATIONS • Never be afraid to ask. Everyone started learning somewhere and there is nothing shameful about asking. Visit a wine shop and let them know what kind of flavor you are looking for and see what they suggest or ask them for a few of their best recommendations based on your price range.

Learn how the wine shop is organized as many have their wines by region or harvest year and others by taste.

• If you want to try wine at a restaurant don´t hesitate to ask about their selections. Politely ask if they can explain their recommendations and they will probably recommend a wine that goes well with the flavor of your meal. Don´t feel like you have to use professional wine jargon and feel confident about asking for help in selecting something that you will enjoy.

• Like with all things, moderation is key and it is important to mention that the maximum recommendation for wine intake is one drink a day.

RECOMENDACIONES •Nunca tengas miedo de preguntar. Todo el mundo empezó a aprender en alguna parte y no hay nada vergonzoso en preguntar.

Do not worry, if you do not have one of those, because now, I will give you 5 tips so that your usual lipstick stays intact longer on your lips, and you do not have to spend more money. Here we go: 1. Exfoliate your lips thoroughly.

2. Put on some moisturizer. Let it absorb well.

3. Put on your lips a little of the face base that you use. Preferably apply with a flat synthetic hair brush. In case you do not have it, use your fingertips. Notice that it is very neat and without excess.

I have read many articles about the benefit of ice and one of my favorite things to do is to face dunk in ice water in the morning. The feeling is amazing and it will definitely wake you up! It will improve your circulation and tightens your skin instantly! But here are some more benefits of the Ice cubes for our beauty routine.

Makeup fix: Apply an ice cube, wrapped in a soft cloth or tissue, before you put on your makeup, make sure to just rub your face for a minute or two with it and you are ready to go!!

It will give you a special glow plus the ice cubes tighten your pores making your face look smoother and it also minimizes the production of oil.

Take ice in a washed cloth and rub it over scars for 10 minutes every day, this will help tighten pores and reduce inflammation. Make sure you wash your face first.

Smooths eye: Who doesn’t have to deal with tire eyes and dark circles? When you get tired working on your laptop or computer for hours, when you spend hours reading materials for a presentation or study for a test or project or maybe just after a girl’s night out, is almost inevitable that you will have very tired looking eyes the next day so just place two ice cubes on your tired and worn-out eyes. It’ll soothe your tired eyes and it is simplest and easy way to pumper your eyes… and for the Dark circle… Mix cucumber juice with the boiled rose water and make ice cube with this mixture to keep on your under-eye circles. It will help puffiness too.

For the eyes, you can also make ice cubes with: Green tea, apply a cube to dark circles and puffy eyes and the caffeine and ice combo will reduce swelling and excess fluid around the eyes.

Cucumber: Puree a cucumber add a squeeze of lemon juice and a drizzle of honey, pour into an ice tray and freeze. use it for puffy eyes.

And lastly for the skin: Pour pure Aloe Vera into an ice cube tray and freeze. Apply to scorched skin for instant relief.

Lavender: For an easy massage wrap three or four ice cubes in a bath rag, add a couple drops of a soothing essential oil like lavender, and gently massage your face and neck before bed.

The smell of lavender will relax you while your skin will benefit from it too.

Buenísimo para las espinillas: Aplicar hielo en una espinilla o el área afectada con acné, no sólo tiene un efecto calmante en la piel, sino que también ayuda a cerrar los poros hinchados y evitar que las bacterias entren en su piel. Tome unos cubitos de hielo y envuélvalos en un paño, fróteselo sobre cicatrices o las partes de la piel afectadas por el acne durante 10 minutos cada día, esto ayudará a apretar los poros y reducir la inflamación. Asegúrese de lavarse la cara primero.

Suaviza la piel alrededor de el ojo: ¿Quién no tiene que lidiar con las bolsas debajo de los ojos y las ojeras? Y para las ojeras: Mezcle el jugo de pepino con el agua de rosas hervida y haz cubitos de hielo con esta mezcla para mejorar los círculos debajo del ojo. También ayudará a la hinchazón. Para los ojos, también puede hacer cubitos de hielo con: El té verde, aplicando un cubo en los círculos oscuros y los ojos hinchados hace maravillas. La combinación de cafeína y hielo reducirá la hinchazón y el exceso de líquido alrededor de los ojos. El pepino (cucumber) o pepinillo verde también es buenísimo, haga un puré con un pepino y añada el jugo de limón y una llovizna o chorrito de miel, vierta en una bandeja de hielo y a congelarlo. Úselo para los ojos hinchados especialmente.

Y por último para la piel tenemos un par de sugerencias: Hacer un puré de aloe vera, ponerlo en una bandeja de cubitos de hielo y congelar. Una vez congelados los cubitos, aplicar sobre la piel quemada para un alivio instantáneo. Otro ingrediente que funciona es la lavanda. Para un masaje fácil, envuelva tres o cuatro cubitos de hielo en un trapo de baño, agregue un par de gotas de algún aceite esencial calmante como la lavanda, y suavemente dese un masaje en su cara y cuello antes de acostarse. El olor de la lavanda le relajará mientras que su piel se beneficiará de él también.

The sedentary life of a monotonous work routine, stuck in an office 8 hours by day or more, in front of a computer for 5 days a week, is the leading cause of weight gain for a majority of the world population.

Si eres de las personas que no hace ejercicio físico por falta de tiempo, pues este artículo es para ti. La vida sedentaria de una rutina de trabajo monótona, metida en una oficina 8 horas diarias o más, frente a una computadora, durante 5 días a la semana; es la causa para el aumento de peso del gran porcentaje de la población mundial.

When we get home, mental fatigue leaves us with very little desire to exercise our body, and therefore, we start to gain weight. It is that same mental fatigue that generates our cravings to eat at inappropriate times and eat foods with high fat content and sugars.

Now, I will give you a few tips so you can stay in shape: 1. First, improve the way you feed yourself. Reduce portions and always try to have a fruit on hand to avoid anxiety. If you are on a weight loss plan, avoid fruits with high sugar content such as mango, cherimoya, banana, figs, grapes and cherries. Eat apples, as these are low in sodium, calories and fat. They have high levels of minerals and vitamins, including fiber that helps regulate the body’s metabolism, producing feeling full for much longer.

2. Do not sleep late and try to sleep 8 hours daily; remember that during the night, while we sleep, we also burn calories.

3. If you are going to eat at night make it a small portion, with no less than 2 hours before going to sleep.

4. Drink plenty of natural liquids. No soft drinks.

5. Avoid buying cookies and snacks, out of sight, out of mind.

In your replacement, you can consume natural popcorn.

The best way to do this is by placing, in a bowl with a lid, 5 tablespoons of corn kernels and 5 tablespoons of water; you cook it in the microwave oven for 5 minutes. You are checking that all the kernels are bursting, in case you need more time, give them a few extra minutes and that’s it. You have a healthy snack, no oils and delicious.

6. Your meals should be at least 5 times a day in small portions, which will cause your metabolism to accelerate.

Measure your portions to ensure they are no more than the size of the palm of your hand.

7. Always add red peppers to your salad because they accelerate the body’s natural fat burning.

8. If you love coffee, you will like to know that this is also a great way to burn abdominal fat. Do not abuse your consumption, but one to two cups of coffee by day will help you a lot.

9. Avoid alcoholic drinks, most of them contain lots of calories. If you go to a meeting ask for a whiskey on the rocks. This alcoholic beverage is the most appropriate if you are trying to lower those extra pounds.

10. Finally, but the most important of all. Do at least 20 minutes of interim physical activity. Not only will you improve your appearance, but also your state of mind.

El desgaste cerebral hace que al llegar a casa nos quede muy pocas ganas de ejercitar nuestro cuerpo, y por ende, empezamos a subir de peso. Es ese mismo desgaste cerebral, el que nos genera ansias de comer a horas no adecuadas y a ingerir alimentos con alto contenido de grasas y azúcares.

Ahora te voy a dar unos cuantos tips para que puedas mantenerte en forma: 1. Primero, mejora tu forma de alimentarte. Reduce las porciones y trata siempre de tener una fruta a la mano para evitar la ansiedad. Si estás en plan de bajar de peso, evita las frutas con gran contenido de azúcar como: mango, chirimoya, guanábana, plátano, higos, uvas y cerezas.

Consume manzanas, ya que éstas son bajas en sodio, calorías y grasas. Éstas tienen altos niveles de minerales y vitaminas, incluso de fibra que ayuda a regular el metabolismo del cuerpo, produciendo sensación de saciedad por mucho más tiempo.

2. No te trasnoches y trata de dormir tus 8 horas diarias, recuerda que durante la noche, mientras dormimos, también quemamos calorías.

3. Si vas a comer de noche que sea una porción pequeña, con 2 horas de anticipación antes de ir a dormir.

4. Bebe bastantes líquidos naturales. Nada de bebidas gaseosas.

5. Evita comprar galletas y snacks, mientras no los veas, menos será la tentación de comerlos. En su reemplazo, puedes consumir palomitas de maíz naturales. La mejor manera de hacerlas es colocando, en un bol que tenga tapa, 5 cucharadas de granos de maíz y 5 cucharadas de agua; lo llevas al microondas por 5 minutos. Vas chequeando que revienten todos los granos, en caso necesiten más tiempo, le das unos minutos adicionales y listo. Tienes un snack saludable, sin aceites y delicioso.

6. Tus comidas deben ser al menos 5 veces al día en porciones pequeñas, eso hará que tu metabolismo se acelere. Mide que tus porciones no sean más que el tamaño de la palma de tu mano.

7. A tu ensalada de verduras siempre colócale pimientos rojos, ese alimento ayuda a acelerar la quema de grasa natural de tu organismo.

8. Si eres amante del café, pues te gustará saber que éste también es un gran aliado para quemar la grasa abdominal.

No abuses de su consumo, pero una a dos tazas de café diarias te ayudarán mucho.

9. Evita el alcohol, la mayoría de ellos contienen gran cantidad de calorías. Si vas a ir a una reunión pide un whisky en las rocas. Esta bebida alcohólica, es la más adecuada si estás tratando de bajar esos kilos de más.

10. Por último, pero el más importante de todos. Haz por lo menos 20 minutos de actividad física interdiaria. No solamente mejorarás tu apariencia, sino también tu estado de ánimo.

Originally from Brazil, Aldo Mencatto is a fashion designer now living in Las Vegas. Over the last several years, he has begun to stand out with his original designs. Aldo is considered self-taught and according to him, he lives the experience of his style within his soul through his sensitivity and creative moment. When he designs, he does not think of clothes as much as he focuses on the people who will wear them on the catwalk, in the streets, and at parties. He claims that the success of a collection has much more to do with human energy than with the garments themselves. The essence of his work is to give life to the exuberance of the contemporary woman with professional, personal, and emotional independence. He likes a lot of mixed fabrics, cut-outs, textures, sequins...

Aldo Mencatto es un diseñador de modas procedente de Brasil y actual residente en Las Vegas desde hace varios años en donde empieza a destacar con sus originales diseños. Aldo se considera auto didacta y como el mismo dice, vive la experiencia de su estilo dentro de su alma a través de su sensibilidad y momento creativo. Cuando diseña dice no pensar en la ropa sino en la persona que la usara en la pasarela, en las calles y fiestas. Considera que el éxito de una colección tiene mucho más que ver con la energía humana que con las mismas prendas. La esencia de su trabajo es dar vida a la exuberancia de la mujer contemporánea profesional y personalmente independiente. Le gusta mezclar telas, cortes, texturas y lentejuelas.

Mencatto grew up on a farm in Dois Vizinhos, a small town in the south of Brazil. Inspired by his mother who sewed all of the clothes for him and his siblings, he began designing blouses, trousers, and complete wardrobes using potato sacks and creating accessories with banana leaves.

After finishing high school and following his passion for fashion, he moved to Rio de Janeiro, dedicating himself to modeling, which, although not fully satisfying, kept him in the fashion world. In 2003, he started in fashion design.

His break came in the form of a Brazilian film star asking him for a dress for an event. Mencatto’s career took off and before long he had six boutique stores in Brazil, and was making and selling his garments, working on designs and collaborating with celebrities that wanted clothes for events to market his line. He was making a lot of money but was not watching over the business. In 2006, when he returned from a trip to Fashion Week in Angola with the Brazilian president at that time, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, everything was gone. He says he had a contract, which he admittedly did not read carefully, with a partner to focus on making clothes while his associate managed the stores and finances, but he embezzled from the company, took everything and disappeared.

Mencatto creció en una granja en Dois Vizinhos, un pequeño poblado al sur de Brasil donde, inspirado por su madre que les hacía toda la ropa a él y sus hermanos, empezó a diseñar blusas, pantalones, y vestuarios completos usando sacos de papas y creando accesorios con hojas de plátano. Termino la escuela secundaria y siguiendo su pasión por la moda se mudó a Rio de Janeiro dedicándose al modelaje, lo cual, aunque no lo satisfacía totalmente lo mantenía en el mundo de la moda. En 2003, se inició en el diseño de modas, su oportunidad se presentó cuando una estrella del cine brasileño le pidió un vestido para un evento. La carrera de Mencatto despego y en poco tiempo tenía ya seis boutiques en Brasil, haciendo y vendiendo sus diseños, colaborando con celebridades en piezas para eventos y mercadeando su línea. Hizo mucho dinero, pero no cuido el negocio, en 2006, al regresar de un viaje con el entonces presidente de Brasil, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva al Fashion Week en Angola, se encontró con que no tenía nada. Dice que firmó un contrato, sin haberlo leído cuidadosamente, con un socio para el enfocarse en hacer su ropa mientras el socio manejaba las tiendas y las finanzas, pero este desfalco a la compañía y desapareció llevándose todo.

Left with nothing, Aldo sold a couple of the gowns that he still had in his possession and bought a plane ticket to the United States. Arriving with only $50 a visa, he began his journey of starting over, clearing his name, and succeeding as a Fashion designer. He decided to go to southern Nevada over one of the fashion capitals such as New York or Los Angeles because his former maid’s sister offered to take him in. For two years, he worked as a dishwasher at Denny’s while studying English. Eventually he was promoted to manager and later he moved into a position as night manager at Marilyn’s Cafe in the Tuscany Hotel and Casino.

Al quedarse si nada, Aldo vendió un par de vestidos que aún tenía en su poder para comprar un boleto de avión y emigro a Estados Unidos llegando con $50 dólares en la bolsa, pero con la meta de empezar de nuevo, limpiar su nombre y triunfar como diseñador de modas. Se decidió por el sur de Nevada, en vez una de las capitales de la moda, New York o Los Ángeles, porque la hermana de su antigua sirvienta le ofreció hospedarlo en su casa.

Durante dos años trabajo como lava platos en Denny’s mientras estudiaba inglés, con el tiempo fue promovido a manager y posteriormente se colocó como night manager en Marilyn’s Café en el Tuscany Hotel and Casino.

All that time he continued working on his designs, saving money, and buying materials. By the end of 2010 he completed a collection that was ready for release. The long hours of hard work, sweat, and money invested paid off as he has now had a few shows and participated in a fashion show at the World Market Center as part of the Las Vegas Fashion Design Council, of which he is now Vice President. His line got a standing ovation at the event and to date he has participated successfully in various shows and events such as the Fashionista Social Club in Lilly Bar & Lounge in Bellagio. According to his loyal clients and models, Aldo knows what women want, he knows the materials they prefer, understands the female form and knows how to make them feel sexy. Aldo thinks about everything and makes her feel good in his clothes.

Todo ese tiempo continúo trabajando en sus diseños, ahorrando y comprando materiales y para finales del 2010 ya tenía una colección completa. Las largas horas de dedicación trabajo, sudor y dinero invertidos dieron fruto al participar en un desfile de modas en el World Market Center como parte de Las Vegas Fashion Design Council, del que ahora es vicepresidente; su línea obtuvo una ovación de pie y a la fecha ha participado con éxito en varios desfiles y eventos como el Fashionista Social Club en Lilly Bar & Lounge del Bellagio. Según sus fieles clientes y modelos, Aldo sabe lo que la mujer desea, conoce los materiales que prefiere, entiende la figura femenina y sabe cómo hacerla sentir sexy. Business has been progressing and he is busier than ever, pouring every extra dollar into his designs. While there is no shop in Las Vegas currently carrying his clothes, he said stores in Miami, Brazil, Italy, and parts of Africa already have his clothes on racks. Mencatto’s name is in favor again among retail fashion buyers, but he still sees a long path ahead of him and he has no plans of leaving his job at the cafe.

Aldo met his wife at Denny’s, where she works as a manager. They bought their “dream house” and have decided to remain permanent residents of Las Vegas. He considers this town his home and does not plan to return to Brazil, which he left behind to pursue his American dream.

Now, he is proud to be an American citizen and considers the United States his Country. Three years ago, when he became a father of a beautiful son named Christopher Mencatto, he promised God to protect him and dedicate his life to helping children and families to care for all kinds of diseases in hospitals at no cost. He created his own foundation to keep his promise, the Chriss Mencatto Children’s Foundation which will soon help many families and children. Mencatto has participated in many charity events in Las Vegas and now he can do more. He has in mind two more projects: he is creating a children’s line to distribute in department stores and the proceeds will be donated to coverthe hospital costs that these families face; the other is to create a very colorful book with a real story to help kids learning to read. The money raised will help families with children with language problems. He also had supported everyone around him. He is also a collaborator with all of Vemex Media Group’s publications.

Hace tres años, al convertirse en padre de un hermoso bebe llamado Christopher Mencatto, prometió a Dios protegerlo y dedicar su vida a ayudar a niños y familias para atender todo tipo de enfermedades en hospitales sin costo y creo su propia fundación para cumplir su promesa. Chriss Mencatto Children’s Foundation pronto ayudara a muchas familias y niños.

Mencatto ha participado en muchos eventos de caridad en Las Vegas y ahora podrá hacer más. Tiene en mente dos proyectos más, está creando una línea infantil y su meta es distribuirla en grandes almacenes y que lo procedente de la venta sea donado para que el hospital no cobre a las familias. El otro es crear un libro muy colorido con una historia real que enseñe a los niños a hablar, el dinero recaudado ira a ayudar a familias con niños con problemas de lenguaje. Así que no sólo es moderno pero económico. ¿Les dije que me encanta obtener piezas intemporales? especialmente si las puedo combinar sin esfuerzo y a ¡Buen precio! Por eso combino lo nuevo con lo viejo y así puedo crear conjuntos lindos y únicos. Quiero mostrarles un par de maneras de usar esta pieza única...

To dress it up I wore a fit and flare camel colored dress also from Forever 21 and paired it with black booties from my favorite show store Lola Shoetique. For the final touch, I added a stone choker in gold because who doesn’t love chokers. Voila!

I actually wore this outfit to the airport. I know when I go to the airport the most important thing for me is to be warm and comfortable but also to look great! I mean you never know who you will bump into or meet right? So being comfortable doesn’t mean you are not going to be stylist and this ensemble is the perfect example. It was extremely comfortable and kept me warm (we all know airports are freezing)… and of course It’s always a plus when you’re able to look trendy too!

En realidad así me fui al aeropuerto. Sé que cuando voy al aeropuerto la cosa más importante para mí es no morirme de frío y estar cómoda pero también verme… ¡fabulosa! ¿Uno nunca sabe a quién se va a encontrar en el aeropuerto, ¿Verdad? Así que estar cómoda no significa que no voy a estar… ¡chic! Y este conjunto es el ejemplo perfecto. A few months ago, Medellin, the capital of the department of Antioquia, located in the northwestern part of Colombia, became famous thanks to the series issued by the most popular or known or famous platform in the world called Narcos, it is a total and absolute success, showing, a time in which we all want to forget or at least in Colombia.

Ya hace unos meses, Medellín la capital del departamento de Antioquia ubicado en la parte noroccidental de Colombia salto a la fama gracias la serie emitida por la plataforma por demanda más popular o conocida o famosa en el mundo, llamada Narcos, es una éxito total y absoluto, mostrando, una época que todos queremos olvidar o por lo menos en Colombia.

We are going to make a little trip through Colombian history, since, there are thousands of people who are visiting Medellin. The political and administrative division of Colombia, is a centralist state, being its center in Bogota, Colombia has no States, but Departments, among these departments is the department of Antioquia. The “Antioqueños” are especially beloved by all Colombians, because thanks to them, this country has a great push at all levels.

For those of us who are foreign ones, it is impressive the great quantity, or when we arrive at paisas lands, I am talking about the men who get impressed by the beauty of the paisa women, the climate in this region of Colombia is extraordinary, the whole year is in a temperatures from 20-27 degrees Celsius, from that it

El antioqueño, o lo que en Colombia llamamos “paisas” ese es el gentilicio de los nacidos en los departamentos de Antioquia, Caldas, Quindío, Risaralda, a este conjunto de departamentos tenía el nombre del gran caldas hace muchos años atrás, poco a poco, se fue teniendo más claridad entre los límites entre departamentos, y hoy están divididos en estos 4 departamentos, todos bellísimos.

Medellín debería ser la capital del país. Ya que han hecho grandes esfuerzos en cambiar la cara de la ciudad, es la única Ciudad del país que tiene Sistema metro elevado, por todos es muy bien sabido que los paisas cuidan mucho a su ciudad, y esto se nota cuanto los que no somos de esa ciudad visitamos y nos deslumbra el cuidado oneroso que han tenido por sus sistemas de transporte, y en todo.

El paisa es súper orgulloso, de sus orígenes como ellos mismos lo dicen “montañero”, los departamentos en donde se ubica la cultura paisa, o el país paisa, están entre las montañas de ahí que ellos mismos hayan hecho famoso este término de “montañero” algunas veces usan este termino de forma desobligante, pero, la gran mayoría del tiempo están orgullosos de ello.

Have you ever felt that pressure in your chest? That sigh that comes from the bottom of your being? Does it feel like a sword that pierces the heart? It is that feeling, which at that moment, fills me with sadness; but at the same time of freedom. Today I decided to stop suffering for a love that I do not really think is love, because it only brings me confusion.

Most women complicate our lives for someone we know is not for us, but the mere fact of seeing it with mystery and with some distance, makes us cling more to the idea of getting it. It’s like when your mother forbade you to eat ice cream because you were cold; but, you always looked for the way to hide and eat that sweet, that worsened your health. This is how humans always want to get what is ethereal, and make it real.

“Even though I managed to be by your side; I finally see that it is not what I expected; you are just a chimera; that neither time, nor distance, nor social networks, nor anything, can make it a true friendship. It does not mean that I was false or that I pretended to love you; but I just cannot understand how it is your way of loving and much less, make you love me. I think that my biggest mistake was to enter into a free and unrelated relationship, hoping not to fall in love and make myself strong. I burned and now I’m collecting the ashes I left, because you do not understand what you feel and less what I feel.

How to have you as a friend, if you know the little story we had and do not you deign to ask how I am? How could you be a friend, if you were something more than that, and yet, you do not have the delicacy of taking a cup of coffee with me? How to have you as a friend, if your world is all but me?

Anyway, I do not need a friend who is just to “like” some of my publications. I do not need a friend who does not know how to be friends.

I decided to give you a new opportunity, respecting your way of seeing love, trying to fit in your way of feeling, wanting to be your real “friend”, not just a “Known”, but all I could do was to hurt and confuse myself again. Today I take a step alongside, because at last I found someone who knows how to value me and who really knows how to love.

I am learning to know him. I read somewhere that love is built, that I tried to do with you; now someone else is taking that opportunity with me.

Long-lasting friendships and enduring couples are cultivated, and you have cultivated nothing at all.

My helping hand will always be when you finally decide what it is you want. “ Remember, woman and man, no one can hurt you, if you do not allow it. To love is not a kiss, a caress, a night of passion, NO! To love is more than that. It is to worry about that person, be a friend or a partner. It is to give you a pause to call and ask how she or he is. There are many known people, but few friends. Only give the privilege of your friendship to those who deserves it; only those people can be part of your energy, your universe. Surround yourself with people who add to and brighten your life. Share your light with other stars, as those stars will also illuminate your sky.

¿Alguna vez has sentido esa presión en el pecho? ¿Ese suspiro que sale desde el fondo de tu ser? ¿Eso que se siente como una espada que atraviesa el corazón? Es ese sentir, el que en este preciso momento, me llena de tristeza; pero al mismo tiempo de libertad. Hoy decidí dejar de sufrir por un amor que en realidad no creo que sea amor, porque solamente me trae confusión.

La mayoría de las mujeres nos complicamos la vida por alguien que sabemos que no es para nosotras, pero el solo hecho de verlo misterioso y con algo de lejanía, hace que nos aferremos más a la idea de obtenerlo. Es como cuando de niña tu madre te prohibía comer helado, porque estabas resfriada; pero siempre buscabas la manera de esconderte y comer ese dulce que empeoraba tu salud. Es así como los seres humanos siempre queremos obtener lo que es etéreo, y volverlo real.

“A pesar que yo logré estar a tu lado; finalmente veo que no es lo que yo esperaba; eres solo una quimera; que ni el tiempo, ni la distancia, ni las redes sociales, ni nada, podrán lograr que sea una amistad verdadera. No quiere decir que yo haya sido falsa o que haya fingido el quererte; sino que simplemente no puedo entender cómo es tu manera de querer y mucho menos, hacer que tú me quieras. Creo que mi mayor error fue entrar en una relación libre y sin ataduras, esperando no enamorarme y hacerme la fuerte. Me quemé y ahora estoy recogiendo las cenizas que dejé, porque ni tú entiendes lo que sientes y menos lo que yo siento. ¿Cómo tenerte de amigo, si tú sabiendo la pequeña historia que tuvimos, no te dignas a preguntar cómo estoy? ¿Cómo tenerte de amigo, si fuiste algo más que eso y, aún así, no tienes la delicadeza de tomarte un café para conversar? ¿Cómo tenerte de amigo, si tu mundo son todos menos yo? En fin, no necesito de un amigo que solamente está para darle “me gusta” a algunas de mis publicaciones. No necesito de amigo a alguien que no sabe ser amigo.

Yo decidí darte una nueva oportunidad, respetando tu manera de ver el amor, tratando de acoplarme a tu manera de sentir, queriendo ser tu “amiga” real, no una “conocida”, sino una buena amiga; pero lo único que yo logré fue herirme y confundirme otra vez. Hoy doy un paso al costado, pues por fin encontré a alguien que sabe valorarme y que sabe realmente querer. Estoy aprendiendo a conocerlo. Por ahí leí que el amor se construye, eso traté de hacer contigo; ahora otra persona se está dando esa oportunidad conmigo.

Las amistades duraderas y las parejas duraderas, se cultivan, y tú no has cultivado nada de nada.

Mi mano amiga estará siempre que tú decidas qué es lo que quieres”.

Recuerda, mujer y hombre, que nadie te puede herir, si tú no lo permites. El querer no es un beso, una caricia, una noche de pasión, ¡NO! El querer es más que eso. Es preocuparte por esa persona, seas amigo o pareja. Es darte una pausa para llamar y preguntar cómo está. Conocidos hay muchos, amigos pocos. Solamente da el privilegio de tu amistad a quien la merezca, solo esas personas pueden ser parte de tu energía, de tu universo. Rodéate de personas que te sumen y que le den brillo a tu existencia. Comparte tu luz con otras estrellas, ya que esas estrellas también alumbrarán tu firmamento.

The barking of dogs outside made me look out my window, I barely could see how in the dark was the hanging and dirty clothes of that homeless. He, without hurry did nothing, didn’t move, wasn’t trying to go, I did not see in him any explanation of fear. A sleeve of his half-dressed shirt, expose his miserable body brunt by the sun and his scruffy hair was so long that I could barely see his sad eyes. There were no more explanations than just seeing him how he seeks daily sustenance inside a dirty basket, with bad smell and full of flies, the garbage basket…

El ladrido de los perros me hizo asomarme a la ventana, apenas pude ver como en lo oscuro se ensañaba sin piedad el ropaje colgante y sucio de aquel vagabundo.

El, sin premura no hacía nada, no se movía, no lo ahuyentaba, no veía en él la explicación del miedo. Una manga de su camisa a medio vestir, exponía su mísero cuerpo quemado por el sol y su cabello desaliñado era tan largo que apenas dejaba ver sus ojos tristes. No había más explicaciones que el solo hecho de verlo buscar el sustento diario dentro de una cesta sucia, mal oliente y repleta de moscas, la basura...

-Hey! I yell and told him to come. He ran like a child.

Cruzó el baldío que colinda con la otra calle y con un poco de temor se detuvo en la acera trasera de la casa.

Cogí un jugo, un plátano y un pan, fue lo más rápido que pude preparar siendo apenas las 8:00 de la mañana.

Extendí mi mano con el temor de que pudiera pasarme algo, pero ¡oh, sorpresa la que me lleve! Era el, el joven tímido, el que no hacía daño a nadie, el que pocos conocían y muchos ayudaban, si, era Ricardo.

Me hubiese gustado preguntarle -¿Dónde estuviste todos estos años? ¿Porque te fuiste? Pero, sabía bien que no tendría respuestas.

Por el bullicio lejano de los perros, puede saber que se marchaba.

Un domingo como de costumbre, se nos hacía tarde para ir a la iglesia, el portón de la casa fue golpeado y papá salido al encuentro. Ricardo se encontraba afuera rascándose la cabeza y pidiéndole de comer.

Sonrió al recordar el eco de su voz diciendo -aunque sea pollo...

There was no chicken or cooked food at all on that day, so Dad ask my Mom to prepare some eggs. She did not know why he wanted fried eggs if he had already had breakfast, but she prepared them anyway.

Ese día no había pollo ni alimentos preparados, así que papá le pidió a mi madre que por favor le preparará unos blanquillos. Ella no sabía para que quería huevos fritos si ya había desayunado pero, sin replica los preparo.

He took the food in a disposable plate to him and said goodbye…. That was the last time we saw him.

Le llevó en un desechable la comida y lo despidió... esa fue la última vez que lo vimos.

It’s been years and today, I saw the bill of the time. He is older, more tired and still in the streets. I remembered the rainy days, the hot sun on his bare feet, the one spectacular on the edge of that avenue where he used to go to sleep and the more than three dogs that always came out to meet him barking. Somehow I think that for him, nothing changes. He stills in the streets seeking the persistence of life while I complain about it.

Han pasado años y hoy, vi la factura cobrada del tiempo. Ya es más viejo, más cansado y sigue en las calles.

It’s hard to erase him from my thoughts because always, even though the years have passed, I’ve saw him in other people. In those that continue looking for food in any public basket. In those others that speak alone but at least they believe to have someone who does not despise them. In those who ask for money without intention of robbing and in which they are “crazy madman” because their cruel reality teaches them that humans are evil.

Every day in my old colony, my dear Martha Rita, I pass near a house where in the distance I see a woman sitting in the sun with a very large coat, I’ve seen her talking to someone I can’t see, but when she sees me, I say goodbye. Her eyes light up and returns me a big smile that joy my heart.

I have understood that suffering from the mental faculties it’s not a decision or a fault, more blame is being sane and mistreat a homeless man who come close just for asking something.

Maybe see him again or maybe not. But, having met him taught me many things that to reserve I can only expose one that perhaps, encompasses a lot. BEING MORE HUMAN. I don’t know his history, or where he come from. I do not know his name or his last name but I gave him a name and he will continue to be called Ricardo…

He recordado los días lluviosos, el sol candente sobre sus pies descalzos, el espectacular a orilla de aquella avenida donde solía ir el dormir y los más de tres perros que siempre salían a su encuentro ladrando. De algún modo creo que para él, nada cambio. Sigue en las calles buscando la persistencia de la vida mientras yo me quejo de ella.

Es difícil que pueda borrarlo de mis pensamientos porque siempre, a pesar de que los años han pasado lo he visto a él en otras personas. En aquellas que siguen buscando comida en cualquier bote público.

En aquellas otras que hablan solas pero que al menos creen tener a alguien que no las desprecia. En los que me piden dinero sin intensión de robarme y en los que son “locos malos” porque su cruel realidad les enseña que los humanos son malvados.

Todos los días en mi vieja colonia, mi querida Martha Rita, pasa cerca de una casa donde a lo lejos veo a una mujer sentada en el sol con un abrigo muy grande, la he visto hablar con alguien a quien yo no puedo ver, pero cuando ella me ve, le digo adiós. Sus ojos se iluminan y me regresa una sonrisa muy grande que me alegra el corazón.

He comprendido que padecer de las facultades mentales no es una decisión ni una culpa, más culpa es estar cuerdo y ser una persona mala con cada vagabundo que se acerca a pedirte algo.

Quizá vuelva al verlo o tal vez no. Pero, haberlo conocido me enseñó muchas cosas que a reserva solo puedo exponer una que quizá, englobe tanto. SER MÁS HUMANO. No sé su historia, ni de donde venga. No sé su nombre ni su apellido pero yo lo nombre y seguirá llamándose Ricardo....

My sister used to have various perfumes at the bottom of a dusty shelf. She most did not use them; and I will never forget that night when I discover a strong lemon essence, cloying, of those that stir your stomach once you become addicted. I never imagine that this aroma would be so characteristic of a particular time in my life. I think you know what I mean; as prisoners from our own actions, we have those little things that make us look back in the past. A song, a piece of clothing, a book, a videogame… and we always try to go back to that time in which, perhaps, everything was easier to carry on, or more complicated, but there is something that encourages us to think about it.

Mi hermana solía tener, al fondo de una estantería empolvada, diversos perfumes. La mayoría no los usaba; y jamás olvidaré la noche que descubrí una esencia de limón fuerte, empalagosa, de esas que te revuelven el estómago una vez que te haces adicto.

Nunca imaginé que ese aroma sería tan característico de una época de mi vida. Creo que sabes a lo que me refiero; como seres prisioneros de nuestras acciones, tenemos esas pequeñas cosas que nos hacen mirar atrás. Una canción, una prenda, un libro, un videojuego… y siempre volvemos a ese punto en el que, tal vez, todo era más sencillo de llevar, o más complicado, pero existe algo que nos anima a pensar en ello.

I know that no one will understand this perfectly. When I smell that perfume again, I have an instant of infinite power; I live again. My sister’s room, the school, the Christmas, all the people who was there in that moment.

I’ll never forget. I could never forget the nights talking with Micaela, from the most banal things like meat or the climate, to the iconic things that would define a temporal line later. How could I forget such a symbolic December, from which the first stories would emerge and where the main currents of Alexandria would be written? Austin telling me about his experiences at the circus, the people of the groups embodying each of their feelings and problems, asking to be listened to and above all, how could I forget that the guillotine of destiny forced me to act when It should, just as it should.

I miss all that. Actually, I notice that I’ve always had something to miss. When that time ended and I still smelling that perfume, but under the thoughts of Natalia, missed the simplicity and ignorance of the previous months; and when I lived a time of extreme emotions next to Brigitte, I missed the pain and anguish that Natalia caused. Today, after already finished all those stories and moments that marked me permanently, I smell the same perfumes that I have preserved, listen to The Presets, Royal Teeth, The Chevin and I just… cry. I cry guilty of emotion, nostalgia; I do not know why I cry.

Once I told Sebastian everything that happened that December, the new perception I acquired and how I felt about myself, and he supported me. I remember Cristian worried about me when there were problems with Maria, also that same day, began a frankly unique week, where I met three angels and distance myself from my best friend. I miss all that, laugh once and cry four times; the last days of my class; my decorated home. The only thing that can take me to those moments, or at least it approaches, is the music and the perfumes. It’s something I can never explain, but I understand when I get a smile on my face.

The illuminated city, the congratulations, the hours of difference, that sweet aroma that kept me away, all of them. I would give anything to look at myself from the past; just look at it, like a movie. Watch myself act, making mistakes, redeeming through rage, to impose, to be crushed, to make history. I’m sure I’ll not believe myself if I could tell my past self that years later I’ll understand the importance of the small things. Maybe by then I thought I lived the hardest stage of my life, but I really don’t have idea of how many roads the trip will offer, because today I still discovering more. Perhaps his pride will be irritated when I tell myself that we’ll cry on many occasions, that other people will arrive, some really special, figures of admiration that will strike my objectivity, and that they will leave, not without teaching something first. Maybe I do not understand if I explain myself that it’s useless to lament, to miss every day or feeling guilty because it didn’t go as you expected.

Still, I would insist to sleep calmly, hug strong and learn to love the everyday, for there is life that will never be repeated.

Cuando huelo nuevamente ese perfume, tengo un instante de poder infinito; vivo de nuevo. La habitación de mi hermana, la escuela, la Navidad, todas las personas que estuvieron en ese momento. Jamás lo olvidaré. Jamás podría olvidar las noches con Micaela, hablando desde lo más banal como milanesas y el clima, hasta el iconismo que definiría una línea temporal más adelante. ¿Cómo podría olvidar un diciembre tan simbólico, del que saldrían las primeras historias y donde se escribirían luego las corrientes principales de Alejandría? A Austin contándome sus experiencias en el circo, la gente de los grupos plasmando cada uno de sus sentimientos y problemas, pidiendo ser escuchados y, sobre todo, cómo podría olvidar que la guillotina del destino me obligó a actuar cuando debía, justo como debía.

Extraño todo eso. En realidad, noto que siempre he tenido algo que extrañar. Cuando esa época terminó y seguí oliendo ese perfume, pero bajo los pensamientos de Natalia, extrañaba la sencillez y la ignorancia de los meses anteriores; y cuando viví una época de emociones extremas al lado de Brigitte, extrañaba el dolor y la angustia que Natalia causaba. Hoy, ya terminadas todas esas historias y momentos que me marcaron permanentemente, huelo los mismos perfumes que he conservado, escucho The Presets, Royal Teeth, The Chevin y solo… lloro. Lloro culpa de la emoción, nostalgia; no sé por qué lloro.

Una vez le conté a Sebastián todo lo que sucedió ese diciembre, la nueva percepción que adquirí, cómo me sentía conmigo mismo, y él me apoyó. Recuerdo a Cristian preocuparse por mí cuando hubo problemas con María, también, ese mismo día, empezó una semana francamente única, donde conocí a tres ángeles y tomé distancia de mi mejor amiga. Extraño todo eso, reír una vez y llorar cuatro; los últimos días de clase; mi casa decorada. Lo único que puede llevarme a esos momentos, o al menos lo intenta, son la música y los perfumes. Es algo que nunca logro explicar, pero que entiendo cuando se me dibuja una sonrisa.

La ciudad iluminada, las felicitaciones, las horas de diferencia, ese aroma tan dulce que me alejaba, a todos ellos. Daría lo que sea por mirar a mi antiguo yo; solo mirarlo, como una película. Mirarlo actuar, equivocarse, redimirse a través de la rabia, imponer, ser aplastado, hacer historia. Estoy seguro que no me creería si le digo esto, que años después entenderá la importancia de las cosas pequeñas. Puede que para entonces piense que vivió la etapa más dura, pero realmente no tiene idea de la cantidad de caminos que el viaje le ofrecerá, pues hoy todavía sigo descubriéndolos.

Quizá su orgullo se irrite cuando le diga que llorará en muchas otras ocasiones, que llegarán otras personas, algunas realmente especiales, figuras de admiración que hincarán en su objetividad, y que también se irán, no sin enseñarle algo primero. Tal vez no entienda si le explico que no sirve de nada lamentarse, extrañar a diario o sentirse mal porque las cosas no salieron como esperaba. Aún así le insistiría, sin duda, en que duerma tranquilo, que abrace con fuerza y aprenda a amar lo cotidiano, pues ahí está la vida que nunca se repetirá.

And four years later... I cried again, the impotence and the waste of my love came together causing a burst of tears and the whys that led me to pour the sweetest tears that apparently had to leave my eyes that for so long wanted to see you without success.

I remembered our magical times when I saw you for the first time, when our timid conversations began as well, when at last I could feel you close and the moment you encouraged me to embrace me ... between sobs and with deep peace I also remembered that first kiss that Literally the most tender of my existence.

How not to embrace love with so much crying and curse at the same time? Have you noticed that we women are great at comparing?

This isn´t necessarily a bad thing, sometimes it can be quite helpful, like when we compare prices and offers.

However, the problem is when we start comparing ourselves to each other. What we think, when we do that, can turn into something dangerous and harmful if we aren´t careful. The worst thing you can do is to compare yourself or other women with the purpose of criticizing. We need to stop comparing each other and start working towards building each other up.

Yes, it is normal to look at another woman and say: ¨wow she is very pretty and smart¨ and recognize that, maybe even let her know what you think to make her day. Yet, it´s not ok to think that and then diminish her in your mind by adding a negative thought to that, such as ¨wow she is successful, but I bet she got this far because of her looks.¨ First of all, we shouldn´t think that way and secondly, we probably won´t even say that to her face, nor should we. Yet why do we do this?

Why do we let these kinds of thoughts settle in our heads? Is it because we are so used to the popular commentary that tells us we need to be pretty to be successful? Or is it just that we are so used to the criticism women get that we have become part of the problem instead of the solution. We need to put a stop to this. When we think that way about other women, even if it´s just in our thoughts, we really are diminishing ourselves. We need to start changing. We need to stop comparing and competing in this unhealthy way and start growing, start helping and respecting each other.

It is our thoughts and actions that make us bigger or smaller. How we choose to look at other women will not only change the way we look at them, but also at ourselves. So, yes, we have to start praising and raising each other. We have to learn to love ourselves, to accept our differences, and to stop comparing. We complain about how much harder we have it, and it´s true, but why then, make it harder on ourselves by not treating each other with the respect we deserve. When was the last time you looked at another woman and criticized her? Now, think about this: When was the last time you told another woman what a great job she is doing even when it looks like she is struggling to keep it all together? Exactly! Your answer tells you whether you are part of the problem or part of the solution.

Yes, let´s demand change. Yes, let´s start working hard for equality. Yes, let´s look for ways to voice our opinions and be heard, but let´s also make our voices louder with actions. Let´s start with love for ourselves, love for each other; love and grace that we as women desperately need and deserve. Let´s show the world how to treat women by treating ourselves and our fellow women how we really want to be treated. It doesn´t matter if she is the woman who is married with five kids or the

¿Alguna vez has notado que como mujeres somos expertas en comparar? Esto no necesariamente es algo malo, a veces es muy útil, como cuando comparamos precios y ofertas. Sin embargo, el problema es cuando comenzamos a compararnos unas a otras. Lo que pensamos cuando hacemos esto se puede convertir en algo peligroso y dañino, si no tenemos cuidado. Lo peor que podemos hacer es compararnos a nosotras misma o a otras mujeres con la intención de criticar.

Necesitamos dejar de compararnos unas a otras y comenzar a ayudarnos a crecer.

Está bien voltear a ver a otra mujer y pensar: ¨Wow, que bonita e inteligente¨ y reconocer eso. Es más, si encuentras a una mujer de la cual piensas eso, díselo.

Sin embargo, no está bien pensar eso y luego agregar en tu pensamiento un comentario negativo y envidioso como, ¨claro que es muy exitosa pero probablemente llego tan lejos solo por lo bonita que es¨. Esto es solo uno de muchos ejemplos de cómo a veces somos nosotras mismas como mujeres quienes más nos criticamos. ¿Porque hacemos eso? ¿Porque pensamos así? ¿Por envidia o por miedo? ¿Sera porque estamos tan acostumbradas a los comentarios populares del mundo y a sus criticas que ya nos convertimos en el problema en vez de la solución? Hay que poner un alto a esto, porque al pensar de esa manera, al comparar, y hacer menos a alguien, aunque sea en nuestra mente, a quien realmente estamos perjudicando es a nosotras mismas. Dejemos de comparar, de competir una con otra de esa manera tan dañina y empecemos a apoyarnos, a cambiar para crecer, para poner el ejemplo de lo que queremos.

Son nuestros pensamientos y acciones las que nos hacen más grandes o nos mantienen pequeños.

Cómo decidimos ver a otras mujeres no solo cambia la manera en la que las vemos a ellas, sino también a nosotras mismas. Tenemos que comenzar a elevarnos no a pisotearnos, a ayudarnos las unas a otras para poder levantarnos. Tenemos que aprender a amarnos unas a otras, a aceptar nuestras diferencias y dejar de comparar.

Nos quejamos de como la vida es más difícil para las mujeres, y de cierta manera si lo es. Por lo mismo, dejemos de hacernos más difícil las cosas nosotras mismas al no tratarnos con el respeto, y comencemos a ofrecernos el apoyo que en algún momento todas necesitamos. ¿Cuándo fue la última vez que volteaste a ver a otra mujer para criticarla? Ojalá no vuelva a pasar. ¿Cuándo fue la última vez que le diste a una mujer palabras de aliento cuando veías que estaba batallando? Espero que más seguido. Porque tu respuesta a esto determina si eres parte del problema o si te has unido a la solución.

Let´s respect other women and their lives, their decisions, without judgement, without criticism without comparing.

We need to start demanding change with actions, with words, and most of all by setting the example. Let´s set the standard for how we should be treated by treating each other that way. We need to become role-models, not just for our young women, but also for the men in our lives, the young men we are raising, and the men we may yet meet. Let´s show them how we deserve to be treated and on how they should treat women by treating ourselves and each other with love and respect. Women, let´s be there for each other so we can stand for one another. Let every woman you meet find support and a friend in you. It starts with love, it starts with us.

Está bien demandar un cambio y claro que tenemos que trabajar por igualdad. Hay que hacer que se escuchen nuestras opiniones y se respeten nuestros derechos, pero también hay que demostrar con acciones lo que queremos. Hay que empezar con amor, amándonos a nosotras mismas, mostrando amor las unas a otras. Dando ese amor y apoyo, ese respeto, que tanto merecemos y que nos gustaría recibir. Hay que enseñarle al mundo como tratar a las mujeres demostrándoles cómo.

No importa si es una mujer casada con cinco hijos, o una mamá soltera con tres. No importa si es la mujer de negocios que trabaja noche y día, o la estudiante que va a fiestas. No importa si es la mesera o la mujer de alta clase en el restaurante, no importa si es una stripper en un club o una maestra de primaria. Empecemos respetándonos como mujeres, respetemos las decisiones y vidas de otras mujeres sin juzgar, sin criticar, sin comparar.

Necesitamos empezar a demandar cambios con acciones, con palabras pero sobre todo con el ejemplo. Comencemos a seguir los estándares que queremos establecer y empecemos a tratarnos como queremos que nos traten. Tenemos que convertirnos en lo que queremos ver. Ser los modelos a seguir no solo de otras mujeres jóvenes sino de todo hombre que nos rodea, de los que estamos criando y de los que estamos por conocer. Demostrémosles como merecemos ser tratadas y como deben de tratar a todas las mujeres, tratándonos entre nosotras mismas con amor y respeto. Mujeres, intentemos estar ahí cuando otra mujer nos necesita, no para echarles en cara nada sino par realmente ayudarlas a estar bien.

Que cada mujer con la que cruces caminos encuentre el apoyo y la amiga que necesita en ti. Porque un cambio es necesario. Y todo comienza con amor, todo empieza con nosotras.

Last month we looked at a couple of products that were showcased at CES 2017, Square Panda and Amazon Echo Dot. I tested the Dot at my tutoring center in Summerlin in Nevada and I found that it was useful for vocabulary exercises. Students can ask Alexa to define a word and use it in a sentence in order to gain a deep level of understanding of its meaning. There were two categories of products that were geared towards education but not designed specifically for educational applications, virtual reality and coding robots.

The virtual reality (VR) community has been trying to use its technology in educational applications for quite some time but has yet to find a truly innovative way to increase the efficiency of teaching. Most of the application of VR are for creating digital content in a 3D space. For example, there was a company that was showcasing their VR gear that ran a program that allowed a person to view two large magnets and move them around in the 3D space in which there was physical feedback in gloves like one was actual holding real magnets. This was impressive, however this does not solve a problem that exists within the educational space. I spoke with a representative of several different VR companies about the key to breaking into the education space is for them to solve a problem. For instance, if they were able to design a set of VR gear at a reasonable cost then school districts could create true virtual classrooms which could save costs when it comes to building and land costs.

Coding robots are simple machines that perform actions directed by simple coding language. These are especially effective at teach coding because they begin with teaching the user how to think in a logical flow manner using simple symbols. The coding is put into three levels. The first level is graphical programming which allows the user to connect a predesigned set of pictures that are action commands. Next, is the computational fluency level which uses a much larger set of commands that are words not pictures and also allows for more complex logical statements. Third, and last, is the full text programming stage which allows the user to code commands for the robot using text just as any other professional programmer would. El mes pasado miramos un par de productos que fueron mostrados en el CES 2017, Square Panda y Amazon Echo Dot. Probé el Dot en mi centro de tutorías en Summerlin en Nevada y me di cuenta que fue muy útil para ejercicios del vocabulario. Los estudiantes le pueden preguntar a Alexa que defina una palabra y la use en una oración para ganar tener un nivel de entendimiento profundo sobre su significado. Hay dos categorías de productos que fueron orientados hacia la educación, pero no diseñadas específicamente para la educación aplicada, la realidad virtual y los robots de codificación.

Tercero, y ultimo, es la programación de texto completa, etapa que permite al usuario codificar comandos para el robot usando texto como cualquier otro programador profesional haría.
