Interview • Mayhem - Beyond the extraordinary • English/Spanish

I

t’s with a great honor that I got to talk to the minds behind this outstanding brand, that year by year, has become an icon to SL residents, to the SL fashion community in a very special way and in general to all content creators. I’m talking about Azoury - bien sûr Mayhem and Aniki Seetan. Sea - Mayhem, it’s such a pleasure to talk to you. To start, is it okay if I ask you where you are geographically speaking - in real life? In France, correct? Mayhem: For me too Sea! Indeed, yes, I’ve lived in the south of France, close to the border of Spain, for 15 years with my husband Aniki and our 8 year old daughter at Perpignan. Sea- Wonderful *smiles*. I remember Azoury for so many years, it isn’t a “new” brand. When did Azoury start, as a fashion brand? Mayhem -We started a little before 2009, we’ve made clothing/shoes and accessories for a few years as well as customizing full perm 3d objects for some Second Life designers who participated in major events.

Interview • Mayhem - Beyond the extraordinary • English/Spanish

By Seashell Dench / Photography Mayhem Owner of Azoury

When I discovered Second Sife and saw the unimaginable possibilities, I immediately motivated Aniki, who is a graphic designer in real life, to practice in this platform. At the time, I loved “Elle et Lui Monte-Carlo”, a French designer that made me think that fashion was all Neko!

Mayhem: In general, it’s a little bit everything you say and also some books I read, a word or a sentence that will inspire me. Sea - I’ve been looking at your creations very carefully and I see that each one of your items comes has a sentence or a quote, I read them at your blog (https://www.azoury.fr/blog). What happens first to you? I mean do you read a quote that inspires you and create an item? Or you create the item first? Sea - And do you remember the moment you thought “I’m going to start creating”? Was there something that triggered you to create?

Mayhem: I do a little of both, a word or a sentence can inspire me to create the object, but the quote always comes at the end.

Mayhem: When I discovered Second Sife and saw the unimaginable possibilities, I immediately motivated Aniki, who is a graphic designer in real life, to practice in this platform. At the time, I loved “Elle et Lui Monte-Carlo”, a French designer that made me think that fashion was all Neko! *laughs* So we thought, why can’t we? *smiles*

Sea - I have to be honest, Mayhem; it was really amazing for me to see, for example, that so many of your items are named after Biblical characters and many quotes come from the Old Testament of the Bible, others are quotes from RL writers. It shows that there is so much thinking behind each item you create. Is this true? Do you really give a lot of thought to each piece you create?

Sea - Is it possible for you to describe your creative process? Some people wake up in the morning, have a cup of coffee and say “I’m going to create this piece or that piece” others are inspired by something they see or a music they hear. How about you?

Mayhem: Yes, returning to one of your previous questions , I am a believer, I get inspired a lot from biblical characters in the books I read to create my universe around my objects, because in the end, every society needs stories that we like to believe and then tell.

Interview • Mayhem - Beyond the extraordinary • English/Spanish

Sea - It’s also clear that you are an artsy creator; I feel that, in real life, you are an artistic person; art is present in your real life. Is my feeling right? *smiles* Mayhem: I am quite sensitive, I’m a perfectionist and communication, these traits are in my character so it is true that one could think that, but actually, that is contradicting. *laughs* With Aniki, we are not the type of people who go to museums, exhibitions, etc. Sea - *laughs* I see. Going back again, I still remember, in 2010, I have a few clothes from Azoury. When did you decide, as a brand, to start focusing more on specific pieces, like shoes, headpieces and accessories? Mayhem: After the full perm “episode” we went through, we decided to refocus our store and we dedicated to create shoes and accessories with an artistic, empathetic, avant-garde, steampunk side and really invest in more aesthetic photos, so we could have more impact. Sea - If I asked you to define Azoury, as a brand, would it be easy to define? Mayhem: It is not difficult to define us, and people know that they will find different and quite special things, those that make our customers special in return *smiles* Moreover, we often have people who ask us to create this or that item, because they do not find it elsewhere for example our first prosthetic leg was created because of the request of a customer. To conclude, our style is role play adapting to SL fashion.

VersuS

35

Sea - Ah yes, I remember the first prosthetic leg *smiles* And now, let’s play a little game Mayhem? Are you up for the challenge? *smiles* Okay, here we go, if you had to choose just one, as your favorite: Mayhem: - a book: Frédéric Lenoir “How Jesus became God” - a music: “You’re Gonna Be Ok” Brian & Jenn Johnson - a RL artist: French actress Ingrid Chauvin - a RL fashion designer: Peter Popps - a color: red - a RL person that you admire: my husband Sea - Mayhem, thank you so much for talking to me; it’s been quite an amazing experience for me to really research carefully your art in SL! Do you have a quote, a sentence, something you’d like to say to end our conversation? Mayhem - One that comes to mind is a quote from a Japanese writer Ryunosuke Satoro “Individually, we are a drop of water. Together we are an ocean.” And this is Mayhem Seetan, a woman with her own vision, devoted to her own beliefs, her husband, her family, a real person who brings so much of herself into SL and to all of us. And we are absolutely grateful for that! For more information, please visit Azoury’s website: www.azoury.fr

E

“The Creator made Italy from designs by Michaelangelo.” Mark Twain, American writer. Sometimes in SL you have to step out and think about what you are and who you want to be, there is no need to step out when you can be immersed in Kekeland-Bardeco, an Italian fishing village and more, by the sea created by Bridget Genna and Terry. The paths lead you to inner knowledge – and better yet, scenes that are evocatively beautiful… it is like walking through and relaxing in a beautiful dream that forever beckons.

Versus, loves to report on creative people and drop dead beautiful sims – and, those that have loved each other and created together for a long time. It is something so many of us respect and long for. Terry and Bridget (Genna) have been friends for five years. Genna tells Versus, “I have many ideas in my mind – I think I have no skill and that I am lazy… but Terry is a perfectionist and has an out of bounds artistic mind. Terry is accomplished in painting, drawing, decorating, music...in RL too! In SL, he is the only one that is able to really built what I love, no matter what it is.” VersuS

Years ago, Terry owned a club Bardeco, that he created when Genna met him. She only had half a sim but asked him if he would decorate it. “It was the first time he decorated such a big sim (but was just an half of sim) --- not so big-- but it how they started. We are team of 2 people. After we rented other places, sometimes a full sim, sometimes just quarter of a sim. It depended on our time in SL.

As all of us do, we take a break, sims come and go – in summer life there is more vacation time in RL than SL and Bardeco and Terry took a break. This summer they were back on SL after visiting an Italian village that got their creative juices flowing. When back in SL, at first, they rented a quarter of sim put to up Club Bardeco. Being so creative, after three days, they decided to rent a full sim. “ In one week Terry decorated the entire club and then he created a village we visited in Italy. We didn’t want a total copy. So, he started to rez a castle. He also rezzed mesh houses that we colored, for the decoration on the top, close to the castle.” VersuS

With an eye for detail and much thought the village and club was finished with many interactive features… like spoons for a cup of coffee! “When he builds, he lets his creativity speak for him, he is in his world and he enjoys that. So, really, this sim was made in one week! There will be always changes SL always evolves. Each time we have a sim we never stopped building and reimaging our imaginations run wild because,a sim is never finished. We need to change places, change houses, delete, rez again.”

Bounty of Beauty: Onix Noir by Sita Writer Onix Noir is an amazing woman that was attracted to SL because she thought it would be interesting to have another life. “I wanted to experience something different, something more interesting and worldwide. I thought it would be fun to interact with people from all over the world. I joined SL because I thought there was something more to see.” Onix Noir understands and adores the concept of beauty – that is why she created ALMA Makeup. Onix follows real life fashion and incorporates the hottest trends and more into her offerings. “I strive to achieve a distinctive and playful touch when creating my make up with powerful and bright colors, some have an artful theatrical look that goes beyond the ordinary.” ALMA makeup transcends gender and is worn by male and female avatars. “Everyone that wears ALMA is powerful, confident, and appreciates quality and modern designs.” ALMA is available for Lelutka and Catwa head and is Omega compatible. Some appliers are also available for Akeruka and Genesis Lab heads. Just two years old in SL and from Argentina, Onix works to improve her skills and one way she does this is by looking at the Pantone chart with the colors of the Season. As for the future, look for new lipsticks, eyeshadow, liners and face tattoos with beautiful colors and designs. And, we at Versus can’tVersuS wait to see the fire colors of fall from Onix. 113

Regalo de belleza: Onix Noir by Sita Writer

VersuS

“All life is an experiment. The more experiments you make the better.” (Ralph Waldo Emerson This fall is the time to experiment with color and texture and there is nothing like the new makeup offered by ALMA to help you along with your experimentations. Eyes are the soul of an avatar, and Alma helps to brighten them up with bright pops of eye color – look for the multi-finish eye shadow palette – they rock, and remember, blue is the biggest trend this season... so, get the “blues”! It’s time to revamp those cat eyes – forget the hard lines of the cat eyes and go with a smudged rock and roll type of cat eye – it will show off your individuality. Citrus is good for us… vitamin C and all… but, in the fashion world, try a soft citrus wash across your entire lid… and you will feel reborn…think the perfect shade of marigolds and tangerines. Are you hooked on “glitter” ? No worries, there are many eye make-ups that incorporate glitter in a subtle way… and if you are bold, then go for it… you will be part of a growing trend so go galactic! Never forget your luscious lips… put light gloss in varying shades – think holographic lip-gloss that is cool, calm and VersuS collected and a tad understated. 117

Kunglers – Big and Bold by Sita Writer

“I love to be casual and comfortable, but I also love the easy glamour of wearing jewelry all the time.” (Elizabeth Taylor) As summer fades and fall and winter approaches so does our mood for jewelry. As the seasons change, we tend to get tired of the older pieces we’ve been wearing day in and day out. New, statementmaking jewelry is the perfect way accent your fall and winter look-from big, bold earrings to layered necklaces and, perhaps most surprisingly, the return of the brooch, you will find all this and more at Kunglers. Be trendy with long, long earrings, this fall they are almost shoulder length and make a new bold statement. They are bigger, better and more glam than ever. Look for bold necklaces and earrings – replete with tassels, beads and intricate charms. Layered necklaces are also the rage, so put those chokers away and let the chains hang down… the more the merrier! We welcome the resurgence of brooches somehow they are classic and oh so chic. It is the perfect way to enhance that little black dress, collar or hat! Kunglers is the perfect place in SL to update your personal style. Here you will find the perfect piece of jewelry – browse modern classics or on-trend pieces, we are sure you will find something that you will love. VersuS

FAST FASHION BY SEASHELL DENCH

While we enjoy the last feelings of a summer breeze, fashion designers are way ahead of us, as usual. The new Fall/Winter 2018/19 Collections are out and some trends are new, others remain the same from last year, with some twists. But one thing is for sure: fashion design trends are truly empowering women with the boom of the #MeToo movement. While some designers prefer to keep this season more ladylike, others really stepped up to show the powerful, independent and professional woman at her best. So, one of the trends is the return of the animal prints and long shirt-like type of dresses and coats. The boldness this season is to go “animal instinct” from head to toe. From tripes to spots, zebra to tiger, it’s all a matter of really daring! The independent woman is a really a must this season. What does the professional, business woman wear this Fall? Well, the leather dress returns in all its power, shapes and lenghts, like Miu Miu, Loewe and Hermés. The trend for this Fall/Winter VersuS

2018/2019 that took all the attention, in general, was actually the “armour-type” of shapes in all Collections. So, just like “super sheroes”, women can and should wear capes. Sharp, more structured (Givenchy and Saint Laurent) or cozy blanketlike (Missoni and Sacai) capes are definitinety in order. Comfort in tweed is also back. Marc Jacobs brought a revival of the 80’s in exagerated proportions, and Channel is bringing tweed to hyper-elegance. The best thing is that tweed can really go with anything. And who’s your favorite designer, or brand? It’s time to say it out loud, because this Fall, trends say “wear your favorite logos”, in the best way and more originally possible. Like Versace or Armani. One last suggestion for this Fall/ Winter 2018/2019 season, coming up? Layer up! Yes, in cold times, wear two coats, why not? Balenciaga, Givenchy, you name it, face this winter layering. You won’t fail the latest trends and no doubt, you’ll be warm, too.

AUTUMN TRENDS BY SITA WRITER

“I always loved aesthetics. Not particularly fashion, but an idea of beauty.” (Miuccia Prada) What goes around comes around and there are some classic trends that have reinvented themselves to watch for this fall. Animalier is an eccentric mix that includes animal prints in all their evocative glory. If you want to conjure up a sexy natural primitive wild look make sure you add something with an exotic animal skin to evoke the mantle of tigers, leopards, cheetahs and panthers. Escape to the wild in a natural primitive sort of way this fall. Another interesting trend gives a nod to the glitz and drama of the 1980s with strong shoulders. Shoulder pads are back and can be rounded gathered or dropped lower. This look gives a refreshing new look to jackets, blazers, and sweaters. This is a tailored power look that is hot this fall. Silver is back in all its metallic, glittering space grey and moon rock glory! Think Pierre Cardin in his ‘60s futuristic show with a modern flair and the new collection by Lagerfeld. Slinky silver jumpsuits, gowns, glitter boots and accessories – there are so many ways this fall to find your way back to the future! If you want to make it to the stars, add metallic silver to your wardrobe. Uncovered is adventurous and lets you reveal your beautiful body thanks to strategically placed textures that play peek a boo. Uncovered offers suggestive glimpses and is definitely a “look at me” style. If you want to play a bit of hide and seek this fall, this look is for you. VersuS

La nueva paleta de colores

detemporadaotoño/invierno2016

M

beautiful chocolate tone playing a major role and along with it a hearty flax color. Blue plays an important role in the palette, ranging from a mid steel blue to tealinspired diver and navy as a base color. In the bright tones, red will continue to play the most important role just like it has been in most recent seasons, this upcoming Autumn, it will be complete with deep saturated scarlet fever. Burgundy remains the most important color in the jewel tone palette. Color combinations with magenta, tangerine or salmon will add newness. Taking a look at midtones, baby blue shows up as beautiful balance among such strong hues.

It’s an outstanding color palette that will come from the earth, extremely powerful and trendy. This upcoming Fall/Winter 2016 trends in colors, are all connected to nature, either it’s earth tones - but not necessarily brown - or sky tones and their softness. Let’s take a look at terrain colors that will shine this upcoming Fall /Winter. We will see a quite complete saturated earth tones like olive, coppertone and rust. Several tones of brown will pop up this Autumn, in hues like prune and even warmer tones like copper and a spice component given by the use of a rusty tone.

Pastel, this upcoming season will be eye cleansing, with very delicate hues, including a dust tone, very similar to a greysih dusty hue. This will be a very interesting season to watch, in fashion, as it develops in so many hues and colors. Interesting to watch how SL creators will play with this color palette and nature hues. We are loving it already; meanwhile, let’s all enjoy our summertime!

In terms of neutral tones, this Autumn, we will see a group of neutrals that will be darker than in previous seasons, with

There are four trends that get the nod this fall. Flower prints are big with a tough edge and urban aesthetic to flowers. Look for blossoms in navy blue and black with cross- sections of flower heads and stems. Who said flowers have to be feminine! Statement tights with intricate patterns bring attention to your legs and are sure to add a dash of spice to any ensemble. Red is still big in all its crimson couture glory… wear it and feel emboldened. Another color that is trending is navy with styles that echo seafaring military garb replete with gold piping and brass buttons.
