And this also applies to Versus Magazine. It’s already five and a half years since it came out, which is said soon ... We have maintained the nature with which it was created, but each edition we are also adding new ideas and people who can provide an improvement as well as an adaptation to the changes of times without losing the initial line of the magazine. One cannot be stuck in the same if one wants to move forward. We owe that to all our followers of these years. I hope you enjoy this edition and this time of light with new purposes ... We’ll see you soon!

It’s the first magazine of this year ... it’s spring. In spring we can feel all our senses totally exalted, for good or for bad, personally I always keep the positive part. Suddenly the gray days have gone and now they are filled with light. This makes us reconsider a bit about the past and the future time. Also on the stillness of having maintained a routine to see new perspectives. And this leads to all facets of life, love, friendships, job, new projects, changes ... It’s a small examination of recent times where we cross out what is no longer worthing us, where we keep what it has continued to contribute and where we open the door to new illusions that will provide us with an improvement in ourselves and in our environment.

Carta del editor/ Editor’s letter

I like the thought of mixing patterns and colors… bold geometric florals with stripes, a touch of animal prints with topical blooms… tasteful but not over done. It is fun and makes me think of a refreshed aesthetic that you just have to try…yes - you have our permission to mash up and layer textures this summer!

Fashion trends come and go; and what is old always becomes new again, eventually. Just like winter gives way to spring, every summer we reinvent our story and the way we feel and look. Just think about this summer’s fashion trend big shoulders! We haven’t seen that look since the 1980’s, and it seems to me that big shoulders are back in full force. They make me want to watch old episodes of Dynasty or Back to the Future!

This issue of Versus brings you plenty of new trends and looks to swoon over. If you love prints, florals, bike shorts, and flowers as much as we do, you are in for a treat. Our models have been hard at work styling some super-fashionable outfits to inspire you… to make you the best that you can be… Extraordinary.

And, then there are bike shorts; we’ve seen this before, sort of. Madonna wore them in the 80s in a very glamorous Madonna –like way and Princess Dianna sported them in the 90s with casual sweaters and sweatshirts.

C

hannel the accomplishments of Wicca Merlin and you will find magic. An inspiring model, a photographer that beguiles with idiosyncratic images, and a clothes designer in SL of impeccable craftsmanship whose legacy in SL not only endures it continues to grow. Even her name is reflective of magic…” I was always interested in everything that is mystical so when I saw the surname Merlin drop down I thought if I can be a wizard for my second name, why not be a witch for my first name – hence, Wicca Merlin was “born”!” Wicca found SL many years ago through a friend that suggested that if she wanted to hear music from all over the world, then, SL was the place to be. As a RL musician Wicca was tantalized by this possibility and the rest is history. “As times changed and my interests evolved; what I love to do in SL has also changed. Designing clothes and accessories and taking photos head the list of what I love to do most on SL these days.” As one of SL’s top model’s Wicca has learned a great deal from the SL runway and has offered to share her thoughts with readers of Versus. “First of all it taught me, that a virtual game can be addictive if you are not careful :p Other than that I learned how to edit things and what I have to look for when participating in a SL runway show. Modeling also helped me understand SL/LL game mechanics about clothing – what does and doesn’t work and how things should be to work correctly.

I also learned that people could become strange if they are a " Super Hyper top model” the change from one year to the next in their character and looks (and not always in a positive way) had changed so dramatically that I didn’t recognize them.” One of the natural progressions of being a model is to become a photographer. As Wicca began to blog she started to shoot clothes in order to show off the fashions created by designers. Wicca has a sharp intellect and a curious mind so it is not a real stretch of the imagination when she began to create clothes and accessories. “I started off with the name Wicca’s Wardrobe, but as of March 2 we are changing the name and our brand to Wicca’s Originals. For me, Wicca’s Original is the next step for us because it emphasizes our vision and what we like to do and create in SL. To me it means that I am free to create everything that I like (as far as game mechanics let me) and I can be crazier with things in SL than in RL!” Wicca admits that she is persistent and that trait has helped her evolve in SL. And, like many of us devoted to SL, Wicca concedes that, in fact, SL has influenced her RL. “After 12 years it would be a lie to say SL didn’t influence my RL somehow. With the store and event deadlines it sometimes does influence it more than I would want, but it is fun and like many things in life it somehow brings some responsibilities with it.

I

do look more into fashion in RL than I did before I started playing SL. I try to keep a SL balance because you can easily become an SL addict and, most of all because I really do value my RL and my RL friends.

“Maybe I would not trust as many people in SL as I have in the past because SL can be cruel.” Wicca is and should be proud of what she has achieved in SL, and with good reason. “I am proud of what I have achieved.

As a musician and teacher in RL Wicca has brought an arsenal of skills into SL that has helped her create the fabulous line of apparel and accessories that is Wicca’s Originals. “I love drawing in RL and when I was attending the University courses in art, art history and history helped me a lot in creating pictures in SL because of the art rules and techniques I was taught.”

Not because it tells me what a great person I am; rather it shows that you can really succeed doing what you love. I worked hard, had fights and there have been people trying to tell me what to do – or what not too. I surely picked the harder way, but in my eyes it was worth it.”

Wicca’s Wardrobe has been around for five years and it is a brave and somewhat complicated move to rebrand, but Wicca has good reasons for the rebranding to Wicca’s Originals. “I started making poses and then progressed on to working with mesh templates, although I always created my own textures. Originally, I created Wicca’s Wardrobe with the thought that everything that I was making, I would want in my wardrobe. Since we have stepped away from older template work and are working only with original meshes. I thought Wicca’s Originals better represents what we are doing now. I also changed the name because I was told that Wicca´s Wardrobe sounds as if we only offer Witch clothing and that is not the case *laughs*!” Thinking back over the SL years Wicca would do everything about the same way, with a caveat.

VersuS

35

As for a personal fun question the five things Wicca would always keep are her guitar, cigarettes, coffee, a blanket to feel cozy, and her partner!” As for fashion and role models Wicca is a great admirer of Milla Yovovich and Madonna. “I like both of them because both are not mainstream looking and because they are powerful ladies that influenced complete generations.” SL slipped into Wicca’s RL in a powerful way. “One of the most defining moments in my life, and God I have had many of them, was the day I met my actual RL/SL partner. Another defining moment was when my band was invited to play at Wacken Open Air" - the biggest metal festival in Germany, and of course, the day when we got our first record label deal with the band...” With such a full life, it is amazing that Wicca has the time and energy to create in SL. When asked where she wants to be in five years Wicca replies, “I would like to be exactly where I am now, just with more skills and more experience.”

THE HORROR OUT OF SPA

B

«The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear, and the oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of the Unknown» by H.P. Lovecraft

What makes the world go round? I would love to say that love or compassion are a solid motor for our existence; but it’s enough to listen to a few minutes of any news and we understand that it is not so. The spoiler at the beginning of this article makes the answer obvious. Fear guides our steps much more than we would like to admit it. We work to satisfy needs to avoid they might expose us to situations of shortage. We look for the security of a home, a sentimental relationship, the work environment... All this under the influence of the fear of uncertainty. Maybe that’s why some of us seek in literature a way to experience emotions from a comfortable seat in our own houses, while we want stability in our lives. There have been many authors who exploited this profound human emotion that reveals us. During the nineteenth century there was a change in the literary paradigm and little by little the authors of suspense, terror and adventures opened their way in a field dominated by romanticism.

English Arthur Conan Doyle. In all the works of these authors there are daring or outdated protagonists who, because of the circumstances, must give the best of themselves to cope with unexpected situations and/or with the risk of getting out gracefully. However, it was at the beginning of the twentieth century that the foundations for modern terror were established by the hand of a peculiar writer from Providence, Rhode Island. Strongly influenced by the work of Lord Dunsany and the Tales of Poe, Howard Phillips Lovecraft is considered the creator of Cosmic horror. A term that, in addition to being bombastic, indicates the change in the gothic horror stories, mainly based on ghosts and enchanted castles, to create the myths of Cthulhu, a universe in which are remarked the irrelevance and the impotence of the human being compared to the primitive creatures of the nightmare that governs the cosmos and whose existence is practically unknown.

These were the cases of the French Jules Verne, the Irish Bram Stoker, the American Edgar Allan Poe or the

Azathoth, Cthulhu or Nyarlathotep may only be just the unpronounceable alien names that the Providence writer used to shape his fears. Many of you have not even considered that we can disappear in an instant by plunging into nothing the whole history of our species. The outbreak of a supernova, the impact of an orbiting star or a super-massive black hole swallowing us would be enough to condemn us all to the eternal oblivion. And this is the desolation from where the horrors created by Lovecraft were born. The Necronomicon, universal forces that make us seem insignificant, creatures in the shadows that threaten our lives and even suffocating situations can shake our sanity while exploiting our deepest fears. Writers such as Stephen King or Henry Laso and filmmakers of the caliber of John Carpenter, Ridley Scott or James Wan borrowed these and other ideas to create such great masterpieces as “It “, “Shining”, “Alien “ or “The Conjuring”. From Copernicus, in the fifteenth century, to the recently deceased Stephen Hawking, the cosmos has been a source of inspiration for scientists and artists. Immense, ruthless, attractive, intriguing, mysterious and a long list of other qualifiers that, however, do not do justice to its extent and its complexity. For Lovecraft those who are close enough to reveal its secrets have only two possible destinations: death or madness. Now, will you continue your placid existence, or will you allow yourself to deepen the mysteries of the universe?

Surprising, breathtaking and inspiring make-up this summer shimmers and glows. Yes, skin tones are glowing and dewy - think windswept hair and sun kissed skin. Look for pops of color and the glint of metallic on lips, lashes and eyes. Think hot pink, yellow, or blue eye shadow with a bright poppy lip color to set off your mother earth look. A smoky eye look is hazy and glamorous – it is the perfect way to set off those power shoulders you want to wear. For bike shorts try a dewy soft skin shade with shimmery eye-make up. Finish the look with metallic lip gloss that shows the brashness of wearing sports wear on runways or out to dinner at a chic restaurant. Another great option is wearing a classic cat eye feline flick with a touch of shadow. To make the cat eye roar wear metallic green blue shadow and glitter on your lips... a look that would make Cleopatra jealous! You can find all manner of eye make up, lipstick, interesting face art and tattoos and more at Alma. The shop offers make-up for classic and mesh heads.

“When I was little, I went to the Sahara desert and met an older

woman with beautiful earrings that came all the way down to her stomach. She told me, ‘For us Tuareg, jewelry is not meant for

decoration. It absorbs negative energy that comes your way.’ So think twice when you buy a vintage ring!”

Sofia Boutella, Algerian-French actress, and dancer.

There are many ways to look at jewelry and accessories. Wearing the right

jewelry can make an outfit come together, it is just as important as the right

hair and make-up. Whatever jewelry you wear, in SL and or in RL, whether it

is real or fake, expensive, or inexpensive, it can really finish your look and the

way you feel about yourself. A piece of favorite jewelry can remind us of who

and what we are and what matters to us. It can give us confidence and it can be comforting. Our jewelry tells a story about ourselves. The value of wearing a

favorite piece of jewelry with all your experiences and emotions attached to it makes it virtually priceless.

Kunglers offers jewelry that is beautifully made. Each piece is truly a piece of

art that you will treasure. Kunglers offers all manner of jewelry from heirloom timeless pieces to trendy pieces that will have you looking swank and stylish. Whatever style you choose, you will find a multitude of fashionable styles to

choose from with each piece becoming more valuable to you as you wear it on your adventures on the grid.

“Fashion is very important. It is lifeenhancing and, like everything that gives pleasure, it is worth doing well.” Vivienne Westwood Summer always brings a fresh feel of rejuvenated fashion looks that are easy and fun to wear right through to the autumn season.

One “outstanding” trend you can’t miss this summer are the biggest and boldest shoulders that we have seen since the ‘80s! Shoulders are elevated, strong, and sculpted. This reimagined look was inspired by everyday street styles found in Paris.

Another popular trend will make you feel like “Mother Earth” because of the extensive use of

flowers and floral patterns in each design. This summer the fashion season is definitely in bloom with skirts, shorts, and dresses embellished in lavish floral patterns. Silk and real flowers are

added for extra pizzazz! The look ranges from wispy romantic gauzes to colorful cottons - just grab a straw hat and a wicker bag and swing into summer in style!

The transition of bike shorts from outdoor work out clothes to the runway can’t be missed this season. This sexy sportswear has become comfy and stylish streetwear that was first made

popular by Princess Diana in the 90s. Today’s designers have jazzed up bike shorts that can be

found in a myriad of bold colors and funky prints that are embellished with unique embroidery to amp up the appeal.

One thing this season will teach you is not to be afraid of wearing a variety of patterns – anyone can do it… just do not over do it! You don’t have to opt for floral…have fun mixing it up and layering patterns with animal prints, stripes and checks.

La nueva paleta de colores

M

colores lino.

beautiful chocolate tone playing a major role and along with it a hearty flax color. Blue plays an important role in the palette, ranging from a mid steel blue to tealinspired diver and navy as a base color. In the bright tones, red will continue to play the most important role just like it has been in most recent seasons, this upcoming Autumn, it will be complete with deep saturated scarlet fever. Burgundy remains the most important color in the jewel tone palette. Color combinations with magenta, tangerine or salmon will add newness. Taking a look at midtones, baby blue shows up as beautiful balance among such strong hues.

It’s an outstanding color palette that will come from the earth, extremely powerful and trendy. This upcoming Fall/Winter 2016 trends in colors, are all connected to nature, either it’s earth tones - but not necessarily brown - or sky tones and their softness. Let’s take a look at terrain colors that will shine this upcoming Fall /Winter.

Pastel, this upcoming season will be eye cleansing, with very delicate hues, including a dust tone, very similar to a greysih dusty hue.

We will see a quite complete saturated earth tones like olive, coppertone and rust. Several tones of brown will pop up this Autumn, in hues like prune and even warmer tones like copper and a spice component given by the use of a rusty tone.

This will be a very interesting season to watch, in fashion, as it develops in so many hues and colors. Interesting to watch how SL creators will play with this color palette and nature hues. We are loving it already; meanwhile, let’s all enjoy our summertime!

In terms of neutral tones, this Autumn, we will see a group of neutrals that will be darker than in previous seasons, with

There are four trends that get the nod this fall. Flower prints are big with a tough edge and urban aesthetic to flowers. Look for blossoms in navy blue and black with cross- sections of flower heads and stems. Who said flowers have to be feminine! Statement tights with intricate patterns bring attention to your legs and are sure to add a dash of spice to any ensemble. Red is still big in all its crimson couture glory… wear it and feel emboldened. Another color that is trending is navy with styles that echo seafaring military garb replete with gold piping and brass buttons.

TELL ME A STO BY MEILO MINOT LM: https://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Porto/10/130/21

“Tell me a Story” is a very special installation in the sim dedicated to art by Meilo Minotaur and CapCat Ragu. Who knows a bit about Meilo Minotaur’s work knows his poetic characters and the relevance he gives them in his works. Meilo leaves his usual way to do as artist to make arrive the story to the one who visualize it, as in this installation the interaction of the visitor is sought. We will find a whole series of anonymous characters, involved in different environments and situations, and Meilo asks us to tell a story with them, asks we use the ones we want and that we link to the different scenes recreated in the sim, so that way we are the ones to give an ending to the story. The end of the story is a blank canvas for the viewer. By Syra Hyun
