ith 2019 upon us, and the bright changes associated with Spring taking blossom, Little Falls continues to bloom as a town to watch. Little Falls has never been more lively for our senior citizens, while simultaneously providing incredible educational opportunities and extracurricular activities for our young residents. I am proud to announce that the Town will be upgrading the Civic Center this year to improve its ADA accessibility as well as continuing to improve our parks. While all of these great changes continue in town, our schools are achieving the highest ranks ever recorded in Little Falls thanks to all of the hard work of the Administrators working with the Board of Education, as well as all of our incredible teachers here in town. If you haven’t had a chance to check out Little Falls and all that the Town has to offer, I invite you to get involved, come to meetings, or reach out by phone or email, because Little Falls is up and coming and certainly a town to watch!

he design of a kitchen and bathroom can completely transform the look and feel of a home. RIR Kitchen & Bath, a familyowned business located in Little Falls, can help to turn your kitchen into a personal paradise. First opened in 2009 by owner Luis R. Rivera Jr., the company specializes in quality cabinetry and countertops. “My favorite aspect of my business is taking old kitchens and bathrooms and completely modernizing them–taking the ugly and making it beautiful,” says Rivera. Dedicated to offering exceptional customer service, RIR Kitchen & Bath can deliver your kitchen in as little as five days, and there is no need to hire an installer since they staff their own. “We want people to know that this is a place to get an affordable kitchen complete with countertops, with prices ranging from $5,000$10,000,” informs Rivera. “We don’t use laminate; we always use quality products without having to break the bank.” When asked how their company stands out, Rivera proudly muses that “many other companies look to sell their products and move on, but we’re not like that. Our showroom is warm
and inviting, and we’re always smiling and laughing. People gravitate toward that.” Learn how they can transform your favorite rooms in your home.

ENDING PET OVERPOPULATION By Cynthia Burns, photos by Dan Epstein
A
nnette Lamberti, founder of Save the Animals Rescue Team (S.T.A.R.T.), has been rescuing abandoned and feral cats for 40 years, dating prior to the founding of S.T.A.R.T. in 1991. The non-profit organization, run by volunteers, focuses on Passaic County where, says Lamberti, “City-supported shelters are few and there are large, disadvantaged areas to cover.” The organization relies on donations from fund raising events, individuals, bequests and foundation grants.

ENDING PET OVERPOPULATION
S C
(continued from page 17)
S.T.A.R.T. boasts several initiatives to help alleviate the plight of owner-abandoned and homeless cats. The organization does not maintain a shelter. Foster homes are needed to offer a safe place for cats until they are adopted. S.T.A.R.T. covers all medical expenses and provides needed supplies. Volunteers are needed at adoption day events, held each weekend, at fund raising events or in the office. “We support Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR),” says Lamberti, “a management plan that humanely traps stray and feral cats living outdoors.” They are vaccinated and sterilized by veterinarians. Cats not suitable for adoption are returned to cat colonies, where caretakers provide food daily. S.T.A.R.T. will host a comedy night April 13, 6-10pm, at the Barnyard & Carriage House, Totowa. The evening includes comedy, buffet dinner and tricky tray. Visit www.startpets.net for ticket information.
The organization maintains several feral colonies, which have become a contentious issue, one that distresses Lamberti. She laments, “We will never have an end to feral and stray cats. I feel so much sadness. People just dump their animals.” The New Jersey Department of Health does not endorse or oppose cat colonies using TNR techniques. However, municipalities, including some in Passaic County, issue fines to individuals tending a colony. S.T.A.R.T., with the guidance of the Animal Protection League of NJ, advocates for passing ordinances that have clearly defined TNR guidelines without penalty. Individuals who cannot devote their time may donate cash, food and supplies. Needed items are listed on S.T.A.R.T.’s Wish List on its website. Arrangements can be made to pick up donations of food and supplies from donors.

Serving Delicious & Innovative Continental Italian Cuisine By Jackie Schatell, photo by Dan Epstein

hen patrons enter Casa Arturo, they can always expect great things including innovative continental Italian food, creative specials and a warm welcome from Arturo. “It’s very important to me that I’m at my restaurant every day greeting guests and letting them know how much they are valued,” says Arturo. When Arturo was 18, he left Ecuador and arrived in the US, just after 9/11, with the hope of making a better life for himself. He worked at many Italian restaurants, working his way up from dishwasher and busboy to becoming a head waiter. He also graduated from William Patterson with a degree in management. After bumping into a childhood friend from Ecuador, who was now a chef, Arturo decided it was time to open a restaurant
of his own—and two years ago, Arturo’s in Little Falls was born. Arturo prides himself on providing a consistently good menu with delicious dishes including his favorites — an appetizer of figs, a specialty at Arturo’s, fresh pastas, homemade gnocchi by Arturo’s mother and homemade ricotta cheesecake. Other favorite dishes include chicken margarita, and a large variety of fresh fish, veal, pork chops, steak, pasta and other daily specialties. “I go shopping every morning choosing only the freshest items to bring back to my chef who then creates his masterpieces,” says Arturo. “We pride ourselves on our interesting and innovative menu.”
Arturo says he loves what he does and is grateful for his strong following.

Relieve Your Pain So You Can Get On with Your Life
Dr. Raffaele Lagonigro
By Susan Baldani, photo by Dan Epstein
D
r. Raffaele Lagonigro, DPT of AIM Orthopedics Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine in Little Falls and Cedar Grove has been a physical therapist for 11 years. Last year, he decided to open his own centers in order to offer the highest quality treatment. Working for other physical therapy centers, he found that there wasn’t enough time dedicated to the patient. “I decided to start my own practice to spend more time with patients, one-on-one, and do more hands-on techniques in order to give the patients the best outcome,” he said.
“Research has shown that physical therapy can be just as effective as pain medications to reduce pain and help patients feel better overall,” he said. He is confident that he has the knowledge and skills to treat pain in every part of the body, from head to toe.
Dr. Lagonigro is in the process of completing a fellowship in orthopedic manual physical therapy and feels he has a unique approach to treatment. He believes that getting away from passive modalities like electric stimulation and ultrasound and replacing them with analytical and manual skills are in the best interest of the patient.
“If I can teach you how to manage pain, it’s something that can last a lifetime,” he said.
“If I can teach you how to be aware of what you do and how you move and what your body’s doing, and if you just gain a little bit of that awareness, it can change your life,” he said.
AIM Orthopedics Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine
Also, the public needs to be educated about the benefits of using physical therapy instead of medications and injections.

A Pleasant Surprise Found on the Third Floor! By Christine S. Maxwell, Photo by Dan Epstein
P
hil M. drops his wife off for her hair appointment at Shag86 one Saturday morning, and wonders what he will do during his wait for her. He is slightly restless and expects the time to pass ever so slowly. His wife invites him inside to say hello to her stylist. After meeting the stylist, it is suggested that he visit the Men’s Lounge on the third floor while he waits. Phil thinks it must be a place where the husbands can sit and maybe read a magazine, so he goes upstairs and encounters a pleasant surprise! Since opening in October 2018, the stylists of the S86 Men’s Lounge have been providing precision haircuts, coloring for hair and beards, and waxing needs for eyebrows, ears, and back—all in a relaxing and supportive environment. The signature service of the Men’s Lounge at Shag86 is ‘the shave’ which includes a complete 25-minute restoration experience, using hot and cold towels to calm and rejuvenate the client. Customers may also have their beards shaped and trimmed to maintain that professional image. “We are looking to grow and expand the men’s grooming business,” states owner Gerald Ferraro. “We want to be the leader in men’s grooming needs.” Stylist Ed Parks sees a bright future for the Men’s Lounge. “I have worked with some of the best in the business, learning new and different ways to cut. I want people to sit in my chair and not have to worry about a thing. A relaxing and unforgettable experience is what I strive for,” he says. The Lounge is infused with natural lighting, emanating from the four large skylights in the high ceiling. With its white room and a grandiose chandelier in the center, one’s eyes are drawn to the beauty of light and clarity in its many forms. The feeling of grandeur is further supported by the hardwood floor, leather furniture, a wide variety of reading materials, music, and a beverage bar with coffee and tea selections.
Stylist Ed Parks

Tara Torres, Director of Student Personnel Services, regarding the healthcare pathway. The other two were also chosen based on students’ interests. The administration was seeking alternatives for students who were not necessarily college bound. The acquisition of one of these certifications will allow students to go directly into the workforce, and the hands-on experience will also look great on their resumes, whether they’re applying for a job or looking to get accepted into a career-based school or traditional university. Another big advantage is cost: the programs will be half the price of those given at the university. To help with the expense, William Patterson University is offering a payment program and the Passaic Valley Board of Education is giving out small scholarships.
Three “Pathways” were chosen: Healthcare Pathway- Patient Care Technician Training Program; Criminal Justice Pathway- Law Enforcement Prep & Crime Scene Management; and Computer Science- Python Certification.
The courses will consist of up to 12 students with a minimum of eight, and are open to seniors of all academic levels
who have met or are on track to meet their graduation requirements. They will be held at the high school and taught by William Paterson University staff. If all goes well in 2020, the courses will be offered every spring, with the possibility of adding other pathways in the future. Students have been showing a lot of interest and are excited to have these options available to them. Parents are also happy with the money saving aspects.
“We have a lot of students looking to go into the medical profession; this has been a trend for the last few years, and we wanted to focus on the students that may not be pre-med bound, but still want to do something within the field,” said
“We’re really exploring a variety of possibilities and opportunities for all levels of students with this new programming,” said Torres. Spring 2019

Regular Podiatrist Visits are Key for Patients with Diabetes By Martta Kelly, photo by Dan Epstein
A
lthough Dr. Matthew F. Wachtler sees patients of all ages and ailments in his practice at Cedar Grove Foot & Ankle Specialists, he makes a significant impact on those with diabetes. “It is important,” he says, “that this population visit a podiatrist regularly, just as they would see their primary care doctor.” “In addition to the Dr. Matthew F. Wachtler damage diabetes can inflict on the eyes, kidneys, and cardiovascular system, people need to be aware of the damage to their feet, which can begin as vague, subtle symptoms,” he says. “The end result of this damage, however, can be catastrophic.” People with diabetes are at an increased risk for poor circulation and are prone to nerve damage. For these reasons, they should check their feet every day, even if their disease is well-managed. “Any skin changes, cuts, blisters, or slow healing wounds should be reported to their doctor,” he says, “as well as numbness, tingling or abnormal sensations.” Some tips Dr. Wachtler recommends for diabetic patients include daily foot checks, proper exercise, strict diabetes control, annual podiatric examination, and proper fitting footwear. A team approach involving the primary care providers; podiatrists; specialists such as endocrinologists; vascular surgeons; and neurologists are essential to avoid unnecessary complications.

“Around 25% of patients with diabetes will suffer a foot ulcer in their lifetime,” Dr. Wachtler says, adding that a foot ulcer is the initial event in more than 85% of diabetic amputations. “Although these statistics are alarming, studies show a decrease in amputations of up to 80% when those with diabetes are treated by a podiatrist. Prevention and early intervention is key.”

When It Comes to Real Estate, Who You Work With Matters The Clients are the Priority at Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Van Der Wende Properties By Jessica Schiffenhaus, photos by Dan Epstein
W
hen you are looking to partner with a real estate agent, it is important to find someone with your best interests in mind. It does not hurt if they also happen to be among the top agents in your area, at one of the most admired brands in the world. Cue Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Van Der Wende Properties, which has 28 consecutive years of being the number one real estate agency in the Passaic Valley area. And the brand name to back it up: Berkshire Hathaway Inc. placed third in Fortune Magazine’s 2019 list of the World’s Most Admired Companies.

This past year was significant for Van Der Wende Properties, as they transitioned from their affiliation with Century 21 to Berkshire Hathaway Home Services in September. “It was a big decision to leave Century 21,” said Robert Van Der Wende, broker-owner. “But it was in the best interest of our clients and agents. It gives them a distinct advantage for the highest level of service in the industry. The response from the public has been overwhelmingly positive.” “We think that the Berkshire Hathaway brand is great for Little Falls, as the town is growing and evolving. Little Falls deserves the best,” added Van Der Wende. In addition to its Passaic Valley ranking, the company reached number one in Little Falls, Woodland Park, Totowa and Cedar Grove over the past year. Van Der Wende Properties continues to grow—a Caldwell office is now underway—and is always on a mission to recruit great new agents. “Our company’s philosophy is that we do not want every single real estate agent out there, we want to work with the best out there. That’s why we’re fortunate to have the top agent in each of the supporting towns that we serve. We want each interaction with our agents to be something that the client is going to remember and appreciate,” said Van Der Wende. “We want our customers to be clients for life. It’s the biggest financial decision that most people make, so we’re there to support them as a trusted advisor. It’s not about a transaction, it’s about being in a community with our clients, and hopefully maintaining long-lasting relationships with them.”

take business trips, and must care for sick children or parents. Pearl believes “if you’re not training, you’re not paying.”
Recent fitness industry practices have concerned the Pearl Personal Training staff. Co-owner Jeffrey Todd recently walked out in the middle of an industry conference in which “herding” was being suggested. The idea of placing everyone into groups of twelve or more to enhance profits was that distasteful to him as there was no mention of the differing capabilities of each potential participant. “ If you want to be a millionaire, work on Wall Street, not in the fitness industry”, Todd barked. Pearl Personal Training offers reasonable pricing and refuses to charge clients for missed sessions. It is understood that people go on vacations,

Rejuvenate Your Décor This Spring By Janis Hashe
S
pring may not have quite sprung, but it’s time to think about freshening up rooms for the season. One of the hottest trends in do-it-yourself décor is transforming older furniture pieces into new treasures by painting them with chalk paint, say the experts at Rossi Decorating Center. “Every day, someone expresses an interest in repurposing a piece of furniture for another room, for a vacation home, or just updating the look of existing décor,” says Rossi Decorating’s manager, Pattie Leslie. “We carry one of the finest chalk paints, Chalkworthy.” The product is available in 11 ready-mixed colors, including white, and can be custom-blended to any Benjamin Moore color. For added interest, colors can be layered, distressed or waxed for an antique effect. “Everyone who’s tried it once has come back for another project,” she says. Owner Bernard Rossi also points to floor coverings and window treatments as ideal ways to create new looks. If customers bring in an iPad or tablet showing the room they want to re-do, Rossi experts can suggest ideal options. Bernard especially likes the “boutique” look of Shaw Carpet, with its diverse textures, prints

The Smile Perfectionists of Little Falls By Deborah Schapiro
A
to Z Family Dentistry offers a wide range of general and cosmetic dental services for both adults and children. Founder Dr. Marina Guelfguat, DDS, recently spoke to Little Falls Magazine about the benefits and types of cosmetic dentistry available to patients. What is the most common cosmetic procedure your patients ask for? There is a constant demand for a whiter, brighter smile. We use the ZOOM system in our office: a gel is applied to the teeth, and then a blue LED light is used to accelerate the whitening process. ZOOM is safe, effective and fast—the whole procedure takes roughly an hour. What are some other cosmetic dental services A to Z offers? We offer cosmetic tooth bonding, in which a tooth-colored resin is applied onto the surface of a cracked, misshapen, jagged or broken tooth. As with ZOOM, LED light is then applied. Both the function and the
appearance of the damaged tooth can be restored in just one visit. In addition, we offer crowns, bridges and veneers. A zirconia crown is recommended when there is more tooth actually missing; it serves both a cosmetic and a functional purpose. For veneers, which are purely cosmetic, we use porcelain, which is very natural-looking. When a tooth is completely missing, we often replace it with a porcelain implant crown supported by a titanium implant screw. What do you find most satisfying about your work? When you are proud of your smile, you become more self-confident. I love helping people feel that confidence. At A to Z Family Dentistry, we don’t just treat teeth; we treat people. One-of-a-Kind Fashion Finds at JK Boutik
By Christine S. Maxwell, photos by Dan Epstein
A
re you looking for that one-of-akind top, skirt, pants, accessory, or gown? Little Falls residents do not have to search far to find a boutique with an eclectic mix of women’s fashions for the contemporary and progressive shopper. At JK Boutik, fashion aficionados will find that perfect outfit that won’t be seen on anyone else! Several months ago, Samira Salem, a Manhattan fashion merchandiser, decided to pursue another dream. She wanted to open a small store for women with
unique, fashionable, and reasonablypriced items. Samira adheres to the philosophy of fashion icon Iris Apfel who said, “When you don’t dress like everybody else, you don’t have to think like everybody else.” She found the ideal setting to establish her small shop in Little Falls. “I wanted to start a local store with unique, beautiful pieces at reasonable prices. People can find these items without having to travel a great distance. At the mall, each piece of clothing is seen by millions of people. That’s why boutique pieces are unique,” she remarks. All of JK Boutik’s products are specially-made or sourced. The boutique carries organic skin care products with ingredients from the Dead Sea, hand-made jewelry, small gifts, candles, handbags, and clothing from small and upcoming fashion designers. Samira also supports small business with made-in-the-USA products, as a way of supporting each other. Spring 2019
Upon entering the 600 square feet boutique, shoppers encounter the warm, vibrant, colorful atmosphere and attractive displays of merchandise. One shelf prominently offers cremes, lotions, organic oils, candles, and other small gifts for purchase. Next to the gift shelf are stunning arrangements of tops, dresses, pants, and handbags. Another section boasts seasonal selections of hats, scarves, and gloves. There is also a large assortment of necklaces, brooches, bracelets, and rings. No doubt that the discerning woman will find just what she wants at JK Boutik! Out-of-the-area clientele can find similar items in the online store. “Why travel to the mall or the city when you can find everything here with caring and personal service?” she asks.

The former bulletin board was created by two 5th grade math teachers who integrated the district theme into their math classes. The latter, was created by our Sources of Strength Club. SOS is a suicide prevention project that provides peer support to students in the hope to change unhealthy norms and culture.
The bulletin boards selected were NAVIGATING TOWARD OUR GOALS and MIRROR MIRROR ON THE WALL, THERE’S A LEADER IN US ALL. This year’s theme in the Little Falls Township Public School District is Follow Your Moral Compass.

ONE SCHOOL, ONE BOOK = Lasting Impact at School No. 1 By Cynthia Burns, photos by Dan Epstein
F
ifth through eighth graders at School No. 1 in Little Falls are learning a lesson that will have a lasting impact. All 392 students are engrossed in Rain, Reign, a book by Ann M. Martin. The students are participating in One School, One Book, a nationwide program sponsored by Read to Them®, a non-profit organization that promotes family literacy. The book’s main character, Rose Howard, is diagnosed with OCD and Asperger’s syndrome. The Language Arts teachers chose Rain, Reign because it meshes with the district’s Moral Compass Program–North = non-judgmental; South = sincere; East = empathy; and West = well-mannered. “Last year School No. 1 became all-inclusive for special needs students,” says district Superintendent Tracey Marinelli. “Rain, Reign addresses the empathy component and helps students understand what it means to be on the Autism spectrum.” The Little Falls Education Foundation awarded the
school’s Literature Arts teachers a grant to purchase the books. The book’s message is rippling across the curriculum. Philip Ligus, the school’s principal, explains that students discuss Rose’s physical, emotional and social needs in Health class. In Language Arts, the students created posters to highlight Rose’s passions, including prime numbers, homonyms and following rules. Marinelli says, “Students who study Spanish created a mini-autobiography, written in Spanish, based on a character from the book.”
The students will observe National Autism Awareness Month in April. In Language Arts they will create a puzzle piece, the symbol associated with Autism, based on the principles of the Moral Compass Program and Rose Howard’s passions. Ligus believes the purpose of reading and discussing a book is “to stimulate thought and develop opinions and values. The efforts of our students and staff have accomplished this.” What to read next year for One School, One Book is under consideration.
Students relate to Rain, Reign in a significant way. Ligus says the story is set during Hurricane Irene, which occurred in 2011. Living in Little Falls, the students can relate to hurricane damage, including flooding and being without electricity. Adds Marinelli, the book helps students “draw correlations between literature and the real world.” Spring 2019

The Importance of Controlling Humidity
T
hrough dry winter days and muggy summer nights–there is an ideal humidity level inside your home, every season of the year. Humidity between 30% and 50% is a good number on your humidistat–no matter what temperature you’re targeting with the thermostat.
On the other hand, humidity levels over 50% increase the likelihood of unhealthy mold, mildew, and mites growing in your home, and allergies and asthma can be triggered. Again, your house itself is prone to damage from dampness.
At Air Group, our maintenance plans eliminate the guesswork and worry from home ownership in every season. With spring and summer around the corner, our cooling system maintenance plans are already in action now.
The good news? You are in control of the humidity level in your home! Central
A cooling system maintenance plan keeps your system working at its best. Units like dehumidifiers can also be included in a plan. Let Air Group’s experts change your filters, examine compressors and condensers, and do all the recommended service to prepare your home for the summer months - all scheduled ahead of time, at your convenience.
Humidity between 30% and 50% is a good number on your humidistat—no matter what temperature you’re targeting with the thermostat. Humidity levels below 30% will leave the air in your home dry and unhealthy, with your family more susceptible to germs and illness, because dry air damages the protective membranes in your nose and throat. Dry air quickly leads to vulnerable skin and can aggravate conditions like acne and eczema. Chronic dry air can even damage your home, pulling moisture from wood and leading to shifted and cracked walls, doorways and floors.
HVAC systems can include humidity features for easy control. Dehumidifiers can be installed in damp areas such as the basement, and a humidifier can keep the air in your bedroom perfect for sleeping every night. However you do it, you should always anticipate the conditions of the season coming up. Don’t wait for a “damp smell” to remind you to maintain your home’s systems.
Spring 2019
30% to 50% - those are good numbers to keep on your humidistat. Having Air Group’s telephone number on your cooling system service plan is a great way to get there!

Giving Pets Their Best Lives By Janis Hashe
D
r. Gerald Buchoff, founder of Little Falls’ Holistic Pet Care, hears new success stories every day. Katie, an 8-year-old husky, responded so well to chiropractic treatments and nutritional supplements that “She’s a new dog,” reported her owner. “In addition to conventional veterinary medicine, my philosophy is that an animal’s body has the innate wisdom to heal itself,” says Dr. Buchoff. Animals that eat healthy food, and whose nervous and immune systems are supported, he says, stay well and active. Holistic Pet Care provides a wide range of services for dogs and cats, as well as for “exotics” (small animals such as reptiles and birds), and horses. These include chiropractic, acupuncture/acupressure, cold laser, homeopathy, and many others. Dr. Buchoff has also created his own line of dog food, Longevity, Dr. B’s Raw Pet Food. “Our pets are living longer,” he says, “and holistic treatments help them live their best lives.”
A New, PAIN-FREE Beginning By Janis Hashe
G
entle, healing chiropractic care, along with many other wellness therapies, are what patients find at Core Wellness Center. “No cracking, twisting or popping!” says founder Dr. JoAnn Giesenhaus. “Our adjustments are effective, long-lasting—and can be done safely on newborns to seniors.” New patients are given a complimentary consultation, along with a one-on-one with Dr. Jo, before any decisions are made about treatments. A thermal nerve scan may be used to discover which nerves are pinched or pulled. “Patients find there is hope beyond pain,” says Dr. Jo. “Here, someone is listening, and there is a solution.” Core Wellness also offers multiple types of massage therapies, some including the use of CBD oil, which can decrease anxiety, aid sleep, and facilitate healing. “Our Center is very community-based,” says Dr. Jo, sponsoring multiple wellness workshops. “Our goal is to give patients a new, healthy beginning,” she says.

It’s Spring Maintenance Time for Your HVAC System
W
armer temperatures mean spring maintenance time for your HVAC system. Semi-annual maintenance protects your system by finding and fixing minor problems before they become costly repairs, and preps your air conditioning unit for peak performance and greater efficiency. A Bloomfield Cooling, Heating & Electric technician will: 1) Check the refrigerant lines for damage, check refrigerant charge; 2) Change the air filters; 3) Clean the condenser coil, check suction line’s condition; clear vegetation or trash to enhance air flow; and 4) Clear out the drain system to avoid water damage, mold growth or bacteria buildup. Any problems will be noted, proper repairs recommended, and a full estimate of work will be provided. Their maintenance special—good through May 31—makes your HVAC tune-up easier to schedule and afford. If you’re installing a new HVAC system, they offer flexible financing and cash back through March 31. Visit the website for details on these specials and their annual maintenance programs.

Luxury Living at Mountaintop at Great Notch By Susan Baldani, photo by Dan Epstein
M
ountaintop at Great Notch, located in Little Falls, NJ, is selling out fast. With its first listing in September 2016, 15 of the 24 homes have already sold, two are under contract, and only seven more are available. Two of the available homes are under construction and will be ready for occupancy in the next 30 to 60 days; the remaining five available homes are due to be completed in the spring of 2019. It’s easy to understand why they are selling so quickly. With their stainless-steel appliances, stone countertops and hardwood floors, they are the epitome of luxury. All the homes are single family with two car garage and the few that are left start at $769,000, have three to four bedrooms, and range from 2,200 to 2,960 square feet. There are four different models of homes to choose from, and all but one have ground floor master suites. The location in Little Falls is also an asset. Commuters enjoy midtown direct train service and easy access to buses to NYC, all within walking distance. The town is also close to many major highways. Despite being only 15 miles from New York City and 12 miles from Newark Liberty Airport, it has managed to maintain its small-town feel.
Mountaintop at Great Notch is 1.6 miles from the center of town, where there are plenty of great restaurants and shopping venues. It is also close to Upper Montclair, which has a thriving downtown as well. Michael P. Schiff and Thomas Kazmark from Keller Williams Realty – NJ Metro Group are working as a team to assist people who are interested in buying one of these properties. Michael Schiff was the #1 realtor in total sales volume in Little Falls for 2018 and has achieved the NJ Realtor’s Circle of Excellence sales award at the gold level in 2016, 2017 and 2018. Michael and Tom live in Little Falls and are very involved in the community. Michael serves as the President of the Board of Trustees for the Little Falls Education Foundation. “We live here, we work here, and we enjoy being involved in the community,” said Tom.

Knee Pain? Shoulder Pain? COLD LASER, PRP PROVIDE NATURAL HEALING POWER Dr. Glenn Sorrentino
Photography by Dan Epstein
C
old Laser and PRP therapies are the most advanced non-surgical treatments to heal and restore body tissue that has been damaged due to age, injury and wearand-tear. Cold Laser Therapy uses the power of light energy while PRP Therapy uses the power of your own platelet-rich plasma. Although a bit technical-sounding, the treatments are actually very easy, pain-free and totally natural. “We have great success with these therapies on shoulders, knees, hips, neck, low back and other areas,” says Dr. Glenn Sorrentino of NJ Spine & Joint in Cedar Grove. “These are the same therapies used by professional sports teams to speed the healing process of injured athletes.”
Cold Laser Therapy Surprisingly, Cold Laser Therapy doesn’t feel cold. “You don’t really feel anything,” explains Dr. Sorrentino. “It’s very safe and has no side effects. We use the Cold Laser as part of our overall protocol and the results are impressive. Prior to coming to us, many patients had unsuccessful treatments and were told they needed knee replacement or shoulder surgery.”
PRP Therapy In some cases that require additional treatment, PRP Therapy may be recommended. Here’s how it works: A patient’s blood is drawn, then rotated in a centrifuge to separate the platelet-rich plasma. Next, the platelet-rich plasma, rich with protein growth factors, is injected into the damaged area. Cold Laser Therapy
“Prior to coming to us, many patients had unsuccessful treatments and were told they needed knee replacement or shoulder surgery.” — Dr. Glenn Sorrentino Both Cold Laser and PRP stimulate your body’s own healing resources to repair damaged tissue, reduce inflammation and relieve pain. “The human body has an amazing capability to heal itself,” says Dr. Sorrentino. “We help it along with these remarkable regenerative therapies so our patients can live healthy, pain-free lives.”
For a free consultation with Dr. Glenn Sorrentino, call 973-433-0889 to make an appointment or visit www.njspinejoint.com.

American B-B-Q Company Offers Much More Than BBQ Dishes
BRINGING A NEW TWIST TO LITTLE FALLS
By Jackie Sawyer

hether you need catering for a wedding, corporate event or another special occasion–the American B-B-Q Company, in Denville, makes catering delicious, simple, fun and easy. Since 1996, this full service, year ‘round caterer has been serving up a myriad of menus for all occasions. The full-service caterer offers a variety of themed packages including the Texas, Southern, Latin—American, and Hawaiian BBQs, Pig Roasts, Clam Bakes, Oktoberfest, St. Patrick’s Day and other special event menus. “The most memorable events we have done are the weddings,” said owner Kevin Smith. “To be a part of a couple’s special day is very satisfying.” He added, “We have customers for whom we catered their wedding years ago and family milestones like their kids’ birthdays, high school and college graduations. I get a great kick when a customer says we catered their sweet sixteen or graduation. To see customers come back, time and again, and refer us to their friends, shows we are doing it right. We take great pride in that.”

Delicious, Nutritious Options Offered All Day Long
V P
By Deborah Schapiro, photo by Dan Epstein
A
s one might expect from its name, Sweetberry Bowls offers a wide variety of delicious and nutritious bowls. Customers can choose from acai (Brazilian berry), pitaya (dragon fruit), coconut or green (kale and spinach) based bowls, all with a variety of fruits, toppings and drizzles. And if they aren’t satisfied with the dozen signature bowls available, they can also customize their own. Open since October, Sweetberry has become a go-to eatery for breakfast, lunch, a pre- or post-workout snack, dessert, and more. General Manager Cat Lee notes, “We actually get pretty busy throughout the day.” She adds that the most popular signature dish is the Sweetberry Bowl, in which a blend of frozen acai, bananas and apple juice topped with granola, banana, strawberry, coconut flakes and Nutella. Customers also have the option to add chocolate or vanilla protein powder to any bowl. Sweetberry offers more than bowls, though; Lee points out that the menu includes a number of smoothies, oatmeal bowls, salads and wraps. She recommends the Chocolate Dream smoothie, a blend of chocolate protein powder, banana, peanut butter and coconut milk that has become a customer favorite.
Lee says, “Just like with our smoothie bowls, we have signature salads and wraps but also give our customers the option of creating their own salad bowl. We are all about choice here.”
