JAG Physical Therapy President Honored as Entrepreneur of the Year

FemTouch Vaginal Rejuvenation Treatment Offers Quality of Life Improvements

A

urora DeJuliis, MD, medical director of European Medi-Spa in Montclair, has women of all ages talking about vaginal rejuvenation. Her FDA-approved FemTouch treatments are helping perimenopausal and menopausal women, women who’ve endured chemotherapy for breast and ovarian cancer, and those recovering from vaginal childbirth, enjoy having intercourse once again.

J

ohn Gallucci Jr., President and CEO of JAG Physical Therapy, has been honored as a 2017 Ernest & Young Entrepreneur of the Year. The prestigious business awards program honors dynamic entrepreneurs that are helping our economy and communities grow. Gallucci has been recognized as a New Jersey award recipient for the “Health and Wellness” category.

FemTouch is a non-surgical, nonhormonal, painless, comfortable, five-minute, in-office procedure that Dr. Aurora DeJuliis remodels and rejuvenates the vaginal wall, increases blood flow and brings back moisture using CO2 laser beams. On average, women need three treatments, although most women see improvements after one session.

For the past fifteen years, Gallucci has made a major impact in the physical therapy field. He is high in demand for his expertise in injury prevention, rehabilitation, sports medicine and athletic conditioning. His company, JAG Physical Therapy, offers seventeen comprehensive orthopedic outpatient centers in New Jersey and New York; the company is the area’s leader in physical therapy for the recovery of knee, foot, ankle, hip, shoulder, elbow and back injuries. Along with JAG, Gallucci has appeared on radio and television, is a popular public speaker, and is the Medical Coordinator for Major League Soccer.

“Eighty percent of menopausal women undergo changes due to lack of estrogen, which affect vaginal health and cause vaginal dryness, itching, burning, changed PH levels, urinary stress incontinence, bleeding, difficult intercourse and frequent urinary infections,” she said. “Intercourse is important for vaginal health and FemTouch is improving the quality of life for women.”

n the summer of 2016, Efe Cierkowski opened her paint and sip studio, A Sip of Art, with a mission of giving back. She wanted a business that ignited creativity, inspiration, and the inner artist in us all while “doing good,” so each paint class gives back to the community. Since opening, the West Orange-based studio has donated a portion of public class and private party fees to local New Jersey non-profits, schools, and a few charities in Africa. Now celebrating its one-year anniversary, A Sip of Art has so far raised more than $8,000 in donations. The quote “To whom much is given, much is required” always resonated with Efe, so when she left her corporate job to open a business, she knew it had to be philanthropic with a dash of fun. Opening A Sip of Art allowed her to leave her comfort zone and also give back to Saint Barnabas NICU, which sustained her preemie daughter Maya’s life for two month after birth. A Sip of Art donates a percentage of the fees for its public classes to Saint Barnabas NICU. When booking a private party, customers can choose from a list of charities (including PTAs) to receive a donation. Charities and organizations that have benefited this past year include: West Orange Relay for Life, Pink for Africa, and Adopt One Village.

Celebrating 15 Years of Learning Languages

F

or the past fifteen years, The Language Institute in West Caldwell has created a world of opportunities for its students by helping them to learn new languages. The Language Institute teaches adults and children alike to develop the skills they need to be fluent in a new language, fulfilling the institute’s motto: “Don’t just study a language– speak it.” In celebration of their fifteenth anniversary, The Language Institute introduced a travel program, Italian Destinations, in partnership with Via del Vino Tours launched by one of The Institute’s former students. In September, a small group embarked on a trip to the region of Puglia, in southern Italy. They explored the region through its food, wine, history, and culture. Highlights included an olive oil tasting, a mozzarella-making demo, a cooking class, Pizzica performance, and visits to artisan workshops—all while immersed in the language. The Language Institute offers private, semi-private, group lessons, and on-site classes in all languages, including ESL and American Sign Language. Their skilled instructors and expert tutoring have led the Language Institute to fifteen successful years.

iscovery is about finding. The Discovery Centers will help you find those tools, talents, and resources to discover how to deal with life and the issues you bring to them; whether you are an adult, teen, or child. Established in 2015 as a complement to the adult-oriented Discovery Psychotherapy Center, the Morristown-based Discovery Wellness Center provides individual, group, and family counseling to all ages in a familyfriendly environment— starting from the moment a client walks in. There are toys and a big screen showing fun movies to keep children entertained as well as a basket of snacks for those hungry after school times. Along with Directors Christopher Barker, Ph. D., and Meryl Skinder, LCSW, the Discovery Center therapists are a team of dedicated professionals who are experts in all areas and who can work cooperatively when needed, with one member of the team seeing the family while others see the clients individually. In addition to therapists, Dr. Barker says, “We have a board-certified psychiatrist on staff who can prescribe medication for clients 10 and up, and who is also board-certified in Integrative and Holistic Medicine.” Besides emotional issues, Discovery Wellness Center also helps with neurological and educational ones. Dr. Barker notes, “Undiagnosed learning issues can affect a child’s mental health as well as their performance in school. We do intelligence testing for both children and adults as well as Neuropsych and ADHD assessments.”

Dental Implants Improve Appearance and Health

Voted Best Senior Living

A Permanent Solution for Tooth Loss

A Safe, Relaxing Environment with Trained Medical Professionals.

By Martta Kelly

Dr. Yeh and Dr. Chiu

M

issing teeth can be problematic, not only in altering one’s appearance, but creating an environment for bacteria and causing other teeth to shift out of place. Dr. Helen Chiu, a dentist in Florham Park, has been practicing implant dentistry for more than 25 years and is a member of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry. Implants are utilized to replace missing teeth. She explains:

• • • • •

24/7 Long-Term Skilled Nursing Care Sub-Acute Rehabilitation Memory Care Hospice & Palliative Care Respite Stays

For more information or to schedule a private tour call 973-400-3307 or visit www.DaughtersofIsrael.org 1155 Pleasant Valley Way, West Orange, NJ

Who is a candidate for dental implants? Anyone who has lost a tooth, or teeth, due to fracture or periodontal disease. If a tooth is either decayed or cracked and no longer is sustained by a cap or crown, that tooth needs to be replaced by an implant.

What does the procedure entail and how long does the procedure take? The length of time depends on the particular case, whether it’s one tooth or multiple teeth, or if any other work, such as an extraction, needs to be done. Before the patients receives the actual implant, I meet with them to see how much work will be involved. X-rays are taken to determine the adequacy of the existing bone and tooth structure. All told, from start to finish, the work can take anywhere from 3 to 4 months or sometimes more.

What is the recovery time? Since the dental implant procedure is not invasive, patients are usually back in business after only a few days. Dr. Chiu recently remodeled her entire office to better serve patients’ needs and she has hired an associate, Arthur Yeh, DDS, a former patient of hers since he was 6 years old. Like Dr. Chiu, Dr. Yeh is committed to improving the health of his patients while helping them achieve beautiful smiles.

4 Differentiate yourself. What makes you unique? How can you stand out from others? My daughter got strong written testimonials from her various summer jobs that she edited and put under each job description on her resume to stand out from other applicants.

Here are five keys I employ that can be applied to job seeking for college graduates.

5 “No” makes me go. Most sales people give up after their first or second “no,” yet many executives agree that most sales happen after the seventh or eighth rejection. If you believe there is a strong fit and you can add value to their business, go back to your targets with additional information or find other ways to get introduced. This shows them your passion and tenacity, something many companies see as a valuable asset these days.

1 Make a target list of the top 5-10 companies you would like to work for and where you feel you would add value. 2 Do your homework. There is so much information online about most companies. Search for the CEO of a specific company and read recent interviews and articles on that person before making your calls. Start at the top and work your way down to the person in charge of a specific department or responsibility. Also, seek out people who work in businesses that are similar to your targets and ask questions. 3 Network. Do what’s comfortable for you: use social media, speak with as many people as you can that have connections, join associations, and put yourself out there in a positive light. Go to www.barryfarber.com for specific articles on networking and getting appointments.

Once you get the job, here are four great tips from Irv Rothman, president and CEO of Hewlett-Packard Financial Services and author of “Out-Executing the Competition.” Barry Farber: What advice would you give college graduates about getting their foot in the door with employers and then building value so they stay there and grow? Irv Rothman: Getting in the door is about patience and the ability to handle rejection, but once you’re there I have

four pieces of advice. Number one is never say no. BF: What do you mean by that?

IR: If somebody asks you to do something you might not like or know how to do, or you’re afraid to fail, don’t say “no” or “I don’t know how to do that.” The correct answer is, “This isn’t something I’m familiar with but I will find out how to do it and I will deliver a quality product to you.” And then you have to work on actually doing that. The second piece of advice is, always work for somebody you can learn something from, at any stage of your career. Even for me today, I’m still learning something new every day and that’s a very stimulating environment. Third, take an assignment that nobody else wants. Demonstrate your commitment and that you can really add value, even if it means you have to move some place or out of your comfort zone. The forth piece of advice that I think is very important, especially in today’s extraordinarily complex world is that you really have to learn how to operate well within a team structure.
