TEENS AND YOUNG ADULTS CORNER DRUG ABUSE

A new drug is Emerging in Africa, Zimbabwe included some parts of Zimbabwe especially in Harare High Density locations. The drug is crystal meth. Meth is highly addictive stimulant that provides users an euphoric feeling and can keep users awake for days. It causes paranoia, agitation, aggressive, tweaking and psychosis. It really ruins lives, explains one of the Doctors ( an emergency department physician) As harm reduction measure according to the drug suppliers, they provide users with glass stems that are used to smoke meth. The pipe also comes with mouth piece tubing to prevent the transmission of hepatitis from open sores or dry cracked lips that may have been on a shared pipe. In some countries crystal meth infiltrates communities. Property crimes include break and enters, shoplifting and, most concerning, robbery. “The aggression and violence associated with crystal meth is problematic, drug users that don’t have the ability to pay for crystal meth have to resort to crime”, explains one of the Officers abroad.

“The change in personality for people using this drug is a huge concern, it is also proven that drug users are more likely to engage in unsafe sex practices too”, he continues to say.

Responses

“Drug dealers selling these drugs should really face a lifetime jail sentence. It’s so sad, there was one girl who has been using these drugs for months and she died recently because of this, neighbours said she started hallucinations in the late afternoon and people found her dead next morning, next to her bed was an empty rat poison container, it’s really really sad” says one of the woman from Harare, Highfield area.

“Crystal meth is believed to be more popular in a number of countries because it is cheap and drug users get hooked really quickly to crystal meth because of the europhoric feeling”, says one of the Officers from Mexico.

Victoria and Joel Osteen

The Gospel - Joel Osteen’s quotes , changing lives Joel Osteen is an American preacher and televangelist. He is the Senior Pastor of Lakewood Church, the largest Protestant church in the United States, in Houston , Texas. Jel Osteen is the man who can turn a haggard tree into a living tree, his preaching can turn your sorrow into happiness and can lift the broken soul. If you ever need motivation, want to stop feeling broken or want to free yourself from burden of the world on your shoulders, then Joel Osteen is the man. Below are some of the most motivational and inspirational quotes from Joel Osteen that will change your life. “Choosing to be positive and having a grateful attitude is going to determine how you’re going to live your life”.

“Encouragement to others is something everyone can give. Somebody needs what you have to give. It may not be your money, it may not be your time. It may be your listening ear. It may be your arms to encourage. It may be your smile to uplift. Who knows?”. “There is a winner in you. You were created to be successful, to accomplish your goals, to leave your mark on this generation. You have greatness in you. The key is to get it out”. “ It’s easy to get negative because you got beat down. You go through a few disappointments and it’s easy to stay in that negative frame of mind. Choosing to be positive and having a grateful attitude is a whole cliche, but your attitude is going to determine how you’re going to live your life”.

“Why don’t you start believing that no matter what you have or haven’t done, that your best days are still out in front of you”.

“There are many times when you just have to love people from a distance”.

“ When you focus on being a blessing, God makes sure that you are always blessed in abundance”.

“You’re not really free untill you’re free from trying to please everyone”.

“You can change your world by changing your words..... Remember, death and life are in the power of tongue”.

“Don’t settle in the land of barely enough. That is where you are, it is not who you are. That’s your location, it’s not your identity. No matter what looks like, have an abundant mentality”.

“People respond when you tell them there is a great future in front of you, you can leave your past behind”. “When you go through enough dark places, you don’t complain about little things. You don’t lose your joy because you got stuck in traffic, you don’t get offended because a coworker was rude to you. You have been through too much to let that sour you”

“Hard times may have held you down, but they will not last forever. When all is said and done, you will be better off than before”. May you be inspired and motivated, stay encouraged, have a blessed month.

“Don’t waste your energy trying to convince people to understand you. Your time is too valuable to try to prove yourself to people”. “Make a decision and say, “ I’m not letting that worry me. I’m done being upset when my plans don’t work out. I’m m not letting that stress me. Negative thoughts will still come to your mind, but you don’t have to let them into your spirit”. www.viciouscollections.co.zw

KIDZNET CORNER My birthday party. Essay compiled by Ryan Muzamhindo Age: 12 Grade 6 pupil Dugwiza Primary School St Mary’s Chitungwiza

It was a beautiful day , the weather was as cool as a cucumbear. It was my birthday and on that day I was on cloud nine. Everything seemed beautiful on that day . “ What a lovely day” I said to myself, I was turning 11 years old . My father had promised me a very big birthday party so when I woke up everyone was busy making preparations for the party.

The party was live again, and we had so much fun, we had dancing and eating competitions.

A huge blue decorated tent with blue & white balloons , ribbons and beautiful flowers was mounted. Just looking at the decorations while waiting for the function to start made me cry in tears of joy. When the event started the tent was booming with music and and there were many people standing in a neat line waiting to enter the tent with all kinds of presents. Everyone then took their sits and my father gave a welcome speech to make everyone comfortable. The DJ started to play music and everyone started dancing happily. I made sure I gave the DJ a list of my favorite songs to play as I wanted all my favourite songs to be played on that day, it was after all my day. One of my cousin named Michael won the best dancer prize that day, he danced to Michael Jackson’s song titled Thriller and everyone for a moment believed Michael Jackson was alive and the one dancing on stage. His moves were smooth stylish and the boys that were there tried to imitate him but failed. I thought I was going to be the best dancer that day but my cousin won instead.

www.viciouscollections.co.zw

Because of the children and my friends’ screams as Michael danced, the noise attracted some passbys and there were crowded by the durall trying to peep through to see what was happening, we tried to chase them but failed, we ended up inviting them, we had plenty of food that day to feed everyone at least.

39

After sometime the MC grabbed the microphone and announced to everyone that it was time for presents, that day I got many presents , even the uninvited guests ended up giving me presents too in cash. That year I got many presents and I was very happy. I also made new friends on that day, it was the best day of my life. Lastly I was given a microphone to say a few words, I was shy at first but because of the cheering I was getting from friends and my cousins I was bold enough to say a speech that had everyone clapping, I also thanked my father for a lovely birthday party and I bid everyone a farewell and I told the waitress there to give all the visitors sweets as they left.

DANGEROUS ADDICTION for most women “EATING SOIL” Joyce (Kadoma) aged 28

“I started eating soil when I was 18 years after seeing my sister do it. It’s been 10 years now and I have been in hospital with gastritis more than 3 times. Please I need help, I really want to stop”.

S

oil eating has become an addiction for most African women. The craving of eating soil comes from mostly pregnant woman. The addiction is a health issue that is triggered by having iron and mineral deficiencies known as anaemia but these deficiencies can be treated . The eating of soil has become such a norm, it is all sold by street vendors. Geophagia is the term used for people addicted to eating soil. Here are the stories from several women who struggle to stop eating soil.

Blessing (Karoi)

aged 33 had this to say My addiction started 5 years ago when I was pregnant with my second born, I had gone clinic for a check-up, I noticed some ladies coming out of clinic, taking packets of soil from their handbags and eating it. When I asked some of one of the ladies, she said eating soil soothed their morning sickness. When I got home I tried that in the morning and that’s how I started and upto now iam addicted.

Gengi (Kenya) aged 30 . I have been eating soil for more than 5 years and I often struggle when I go to the toilet and feel like I cannot continue to live like this. If there was a REHAB CENTRE for soil eaters, I would be the first to attend it. Please help, I cannot continue to live like this”. According one of the General Practitioner abroad , women who eat soil are at risk of ingesting material that could be harmful. You could develop a worm infestation or other parasitic and bacterial infections by eating dirt. “Soil is a foreign material carrying a lot of dirt and harmful agents such as worms, animal faeces and fungi” she said. dr jemedze THE GYNECOLOGIST

Abnormal uterine bleeding / dysfunctional UTERINE BLEEDING What is abnormal uterine bleeding? Abnormal uterine bleeding is any heavy or unusual bleeding from the uterus (through your vagina). It can occur at any time during your monthly cycle, including during your normal menstrual period. What are Symptoms of abnormal uterine bleeding? Vaginal bleeding between periods is one symptom of abnormal uterine bleeding. Having extremely heavy bleeding during your period can also be considered abnormal uterine bleeding. Very heavy bleeding during a period and/ or bleeding that lasts more than 7 days is called menorrhagia. For example, women may bleed enough to soak through 1 or more tampons or sanitary pads every hour. Some women skip work or class due to heavy periods. This is abnormal they must seek help from the clinic or the doc-

tor. Heavy menstrual bleeding (HMB) has a negative impact on the quality of life of many women globally and constitutes a considerable proportion of the workload for clinicians worldwide. What causes abnormal uterine bleeding? A variety of things can cause abnormal uterine bleeding. Pregnancy is a common cause. Polyps or fibroids (small and large growths) in the uterus can also cause bleeding. Rarely, a thyroid problem, infection of the cervix, or cancer of the uterus can cause abnormal uterine bleeding. In most women, abnormal uterine bleeding is caused by a hormone imbalance. When hormones are the problem, doctors call the problem dysfunctional uterine bleeding, or DUB. Abnormal bleeding caused by hormone imbalance is more common in teenagers or in women who are approaching menopause. These are just a few of the problems that can cause abnormal uterine bleeding. These problems can occur at any age, but the likely cause of abnormal uterine bleeding usually depends on your age. Women in their teens, 20s, and 30s A common cause of abnormal bleeding in young women and teenagers is pregnancy. Many women have abnormal bleeding in the first few months of a normal pregnancy. Some birth control pills or the intrauterine device (IUD) can also cause abnormal bleeding. Some young women who have abnormal uterine bleeding do not release an egg from their ovaries (called ovulation) during their menstrual cycle. This is common for teenagers who have just started getting their periods. This causes a

hormone imbalance where the estrogen in your body makes the lining of your uterus (called the endometrium) grow until it gets too thick. When your body gets rid of this lining during your period, the bleeding will be very heavy. A hormone imbalance may also cause your body not to know when to shed the lining. This can cause irregular bleeding (“spotting”) between your periods.

50s Women in their 40s and early In the years before menopause and when menopause begins, women have months when they don’t ovulate. This can cause abnormal uterine bleeding, including heavy periods and lighter, irregular bleeding. Thickening of the lining of the uterus is another cause of bleeding in women in their 40s and 50s. This thickening can be a warning of uterine cancer. If you have abnormal uterine bleeding and you’re in this age group, you need to tell your doctor about it. It may be a normal part of getting older, but it’s important to make sure uterine cancer isn’t the cause. Women after menopause Hormone replacement therapy is a common cause of uterine bleeding after menopause. Other causes include endometrial and uterine cancer. These cancers are more common in older women than in younger women. But cancer is not always the cause of abnormal uterine bleeding. Many other problems can cause bleeding after menopause. For this reason, it’s important to talk to your doctor if you have any bleeding after menopause. How is abnormal uterine bleeding diagnosed? The tests your doctor orders may depend on your age. If you could be pregnant, your doctor may order a pregnancy test. If your bleeding is heavy, in addition to other tests, your doctor may want to check your blood count to make sure you don’t have a low blood count from the blood loss. This could lead to iron deficiency and anaemia.

Another test is a hysteroscopy. A thin tube with a tiny camera in it is put into your uterus. The camera lets your doctor see the inside of your uterus. If anything abnormal shows up, your doctor can get tissue for a biopsy. Can abnormal uterine bleeding be prevented or avoided? If your abnormal uterine bleeding is caused by hormonal changes, you will not be able to prevent it. But if your hormonal changes are caused by being overweight, losing weight could help. Your weight affects your hormone production. Maintaining a healthy weight can help prevent abnormal uterine bleeding. Consistency and correct use of family planning pills will prevent abnormal uterine bleeding. Abnormal uterine bleeding treatment There are several treatment options for abnormal bleeding. Your treatment will depend on the cause of your bleeding, your age, and whether you want to get pregnant in the future. Your doctor will help you decide which treatment is right for you. Or, if your doctor decides that a hormone imbalance is causing your abnormal bleeding, you and your doctor may decide to wait and see if the bleeding improves on its own. Some treatment options include the following: Intrauterine device (IUD). Your doctor may suggest an IUD. An IUD is a small, plastic device that your doctor inserts into your uterus through your vagina to prevent pregnancy. One type of IUD releases hormones. This type can significantly reduce abnormal bleeding. Like birth control pills, sometimes IUDs can actually cause abnormal bleeding. Tell your doctor if this happens to you.

An ultrasound exam of your pelvic area shows both the uterus and the ovaries. It may also show the cause of your bleeding. Your doctor may want to do an endometrial biopsy. This is a test of the uterine lining. It’s www.viciouscollections.co.zw

done by putting a thin plastic tube (called a catheter) into your uterus. Your doctor will use the catheter to remove a tiny piece of the uterine lining. He or she will send that lining to the lab for testing. The test will show if you have cancer or a change in the cells. A biopsy can be done in the doctor’s office and causes only mild pain.

Birth control pills. Birth control pills contain hormones that can stop the lining of your uter-

us from getting too thick. They also can help keep your menstrual cycle regular and reduce cramping. Some types of birth control pills, especially the progestin-only pill (also called the “mini-pill”) can actually cause abnormal bleeding for some women. Let your doctor know if the pill you’re taking doesn’t control your abnormal bleeding.

Living with abnormal uterine bleeding Abnormal uterine bleeding can impact your life in a negative way. Not being able to predict when bleeding will begin can cause you to be anxious all the time. Also, heavy menstrual bleeding may limit your daily activities during your period. For some women, it even prevents them from leaving the house.

A D&C, or dilation and curettage. A D&C is a procedure in which the opening of your cervix is stretched just enough so a surgical tool can be put into your uterus. Your doctor uses this tool to scrape away the lining of your uterus. The removed lining is checked in a lab for abnormal tissue. A D&C is done under general anesthesia (while you’re in a sleep-like state). If you’re having heavy bleeding, your doctor may perform a D&C both to find out the problem and to treat the bleeding. The D&C itself often makes heavy bleeding stop. Your doctor will decide if this procedure is necessary. Hysterectomy. This type of surgery removes the uterus. If you have a hysterectomy, you won’t have any more periods and you won’t be able to get pregnant. Hysterectomy is major surgery that requires general anaesthesia and a hospital stay. It may require a long recovery period. Talk to your doctor about the risks and benefits of hysterectomy.

If you have heavy menstrual bleeding, try taking ibuprofen during your period (or a few days before you expect your period, if you know). Ibuprofen is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). NSAIDs can work to reduce the bleeding during your period. You also should make sure that you are getting enough iron in your diet. Your doctor may prescribe an iron supplement to ensure that you don’t become anaemic.

Endometrial ablation is a surgical procedure that destroys the lining of the uterus. Unlike a hysterectomy, it does not remove the uterus. Endometrial ablation may stop all menstrual bleeding in some women. However, some women still have light menstrual bleeding or spotting after endometrial ablation. A few women have regular menstrual periods after the procedure. Women who have endometrial ablation still need to use some form of birth control even though, in most cases, pregnancy is not likely after the procedure.

Questions to ask your doctor

• What is the likely cause of my abnormal uterine bleeding? • Is my condition serious? Am I at risk for any other health problems? • Based on the cause, what treatment options do you recommend? • What are the risks and benefits of this treatment? • Will the treatment affect my chances of getting pregnant in the future?

Your doctor can do endometrial ablation in several different ways. Newer endometrial ablation techniques do not require general anesthesia or a hospital stay. The recovery time after this procedure is shorter than recovery time after a hysterectomy.

WHAT TURNS WOMEN ON PART 1 (Dating advice for men)

www.viciouscollections.co.zw

MADZIMAI CORNER WHAT TURNS WOMEN ON PART 1 (Dating advice for men)

what women find ‘hot’. It makes you seem like you have control over your life and finances. It also makes women feel secure about taking the relationship to the next level, because it shows your commitment level.

Greetings! Welcome to Madzimai Corner, a favourite corner to most women and men out there (from the responses we are getting so far) Women are emotional, loving , fragile human beings and they need to be handled with care, knowing and understanding their needs makes a relationship worthwhile and brings out a healthy relationship, that is why we took time interviewing some ladies and researching on this topic of the month “ *”WHAT TURNS A WOMAN ON?”* Below are some of the points we got

3. TAKE THE LEAD Nothing is hotter than a man taking the lead. It makes you look confident and strong. Women want to date leaders. Although if you do take control of every situation, get the women to leave you. What women like is a man who steps into a sticky situation with exuding confidence, when needed and helps resolve the problem. 4. DEALING WITH CAR BREAKDOWN 1. COOKING The way to a lady’s heart, like men, is also through her stomach. You don’t have to necessarily cook a grand meal. Although that will get you pretty good marks. 2. BEING PASSIONATE ABOUT YOUR GOAL Your ambition speaks a lot about your character. A man who is passionate about what he does is a major turn on for women. This doesn’t mean you should always talk about work, but being ambitious and having a goal, and bursting your your brains in achieving it is

www.viciouscollections.co.zw

One of the major turn on is when a man knows how to fix a car or a vehicle when it doesn’t work. Rolling up those sleeves and bunching those up those abs makes women swoon right in your arms. ‘Handy’ men are attractive to most women. Doesn’t matter if you are a carpenter ora painter, a man who has the skills to fix broken things is a turn to most women. This shows your woman that you can be her ‘Knight in shining armor’, when she wants you to. 5. WELL GROOMED Women are attracted to me who take care of themselves, their skin , their style and their

53

VICIOUS COLLECTIONS MAGAZINE | Issue 06

dressing sense. You don’t have to spend huge money into gaining it. But you may have to pay more attention to your skin, the way you dress and style yourself. 6. SENSE IF HUMOUR

The way you talk about or treat your mother shoes women, how you would treat them in the future. A man who doesn’t respect his mother is not someone a lady would date. A very healthy relationship with your mother, is very comforting to a woman. It shows the depth of your character. When you talk about your mother,

Funny guys are always fun. Making a lady or giggle instantly makes you more attractive to her. It’s also fun to make interesting and entertaining conversations that also means that you can lighten up a situation. It requires you to be creative, observant and social, which makes you the centrer of your woman’s attention. 7. BAD BOY MINDSET (Bad Boy + Gentleman) Women like a man who gives out bad boy vibes. But you still need to be a gentleman when required. It is also about sticking the right balance between the bother . Women are drawn to men who are intimidating to others. They are also attracted to men who are leaders and always in control. Bear in mind, this does not mean they want to be controlled. Your kind and gentle attitude inspires confidence in women. Also bad boy vibes makes you like you have sexual prowess. 8. BEING GOOD AROUND KIDS AND PETS. There is nothing more hot sexy than a guy who knows how to carry and take care of a baby or a pet. Having them around makes them know you are a domestic. They bring out your soft side and women just soon over it. As macho as you are, doing this more often subconsciously makes women know they can come to you for comfort.

you give out a sensitive vibe. It also makes you seem well- mannered and reveals your faminine side, which makes you more trustworthy to women. 10. PHYSICALLY FIT The very obvious but important criteria is your physical fitness level. Women are most attracted to men who are built and taller than them. Women don’t expect you to have six or eight packs, they love you anyway. But making an effort to look better for yourself is what women find sexy.

9. WHEN TALKING ABOUT LOVE FOR HIS MOTHER. www.viciouscollections.co.zw

54

CONCLUSION They are many things you may do wrong. However, be confident and keep up the chem. Don’t let a turnoff bring you down. Remember, every women is different and unique. Get to know her, and give her your complete attention and you will definitely win her heart.

COVID-19 (episode2) There are about 32million recorded Corona virus (SARS-Cov-2) infection worldwide with associated deaths of close to a million as of 22nd September 2020. It is generally believed that these figures are under estimating the actual figures due to several logistic factors. In many countries some communities are either inaccessible or do not have access to healthcare facilities, thus allowing infections and deaths to go unreported or officially recorded. Equally infection in such areas would take longer to eradicate and could serve as future sources of the virus. Although many www.viciouscollections.co.zw
