espite Wall Street’s recent economic rollercoaster ride, homes in Orange County are still selling. As of mid-September, the volume of homes sold in the previous month was more than 40% higher than for the same period a year ago1. Furthermore, nationwide pending home sales have hit their highest point since June of last year. This rise was greatest in the Western region of the nation. National Association of Realtors® (NAR) chief economist Lawrence Yun recently commented, “What we’re seeing is the momentum of people taking advantage of low home prices, with pending home sales up strongly in California.2” Results of HouseHunt’s Current Market Conditions survey suggest that “market and price stability might occur sooner rather than later.3” The NAR also predicts that home sales and prices will rise during the next year. This means that the window of opportunity in which to take advantage of unprecedented low real estate prices may be narrowing. Real estate is always a solid long-term investment, and nowhere is that truer than right here in Orange County.
