I can honestly say I have never been more optimistic for my 22nd season here at the Village Club. After coming off one of the best seasons in club history, we have been working throughout the winter to continue to grow off this success into 2021. I am excited as we expand our Golf team for the upcoming year, a full Golf schedule that includes our classic events with additional tournaments, and projects that will commence throughout the year to enhance the golfing experience to the next level.

The “towel drill” will benefit everyone, warm climate or cold, inside (just be careful of the furniture) or out.
Often, we miss hit our chips because our angle of attack is incorrect. This is caused because we get “flippy” with our wrists making a scooping action at the ball, trying to “help it” into the air.
We have recently purchased the Golf Genius software for tournaments and events at the club. We will be using this software for sign ups, pairings and live scoring on your phone and/or golf carts.
A simple drill like this one goes a long way to correct this very common flaw. Grab your golf towel and fold it in half or fourths, so it is about two inches thick. Place it about 5 inches behind the ball and try to hit chip shots without

Notice the position of my hands and handle of the club relative to my target side thigh in the second picture vs. the first. That is simply because the towel made me maintain the correct “angle of attack”. Paving the way for ball first contact, allowing the true loft of the club to get the ball up in the air. Have some fun with this and hope it is helpful. Looking forward to seeing you all soon!!

BUT, we did it and we crushed it like rockstars and 2021 will be the very best season yet!
Each year, US Kids Golf; the world’s leading organization in developing young golfers, pick their top 50 coaches from all over the country. The award recognizes coaches who have excelled in developing players, fostering a positive environment, and using the best available resources to help advance their students. I am beyond grateful to have received US Kids Top 50 Coach award for 2020. I am truly humbled and could not have received this award without all the amazing junior golfers in our programs, and the incredible team that I work beside each day. Upon receiving this award, I got the wonderful opportunity to meet with some other leaders of the Jr. Golf world and received some wonderful inspiration for programs and activities I hope to bring back to the Club!

Come April, we can send out our fully functioning equipment and provide our members with optimal playing conditions. Greens, Tees and Fairways have been more consistent, smoother and full of life. This had been a game changer over the last 2 seasons. All in all, it has been a good winter. We were able to get the 12th fairway sinkhole filled in and patched up. This was a long process, but will pay huge dividends this season. We were able to finally get to some trees that Tropical Storm Isias left behind. They have been cut up and moved to our freshly ground dump, where we now have a plethora of storage capacity to process all the debris from the golf course throughout the growing season. There are several areas throughout the golf course where we were able to clear out a lot of the overgrown brush and vegetation. Take the 18th Green complex for example, opening this area up will help with esthetics, as well as provide optimum growing conditions. Nash supervised the project and gave it his seal of approval.
I cannot wait for April to get outside and start aerifiction and spring cleanup. I’m looking forward to seeing y’all out there enjoying the course!

The excitement and enthusiasm on the paddle courts this season has been like no other. The concerns of playing indoor tennis brought an influx of new paddle players to the courts and it was incredible to see tennis players and golfers learning a new sport later in life. Our three men’s teams competed for all of one month before the season was suspended by the league. Two of our teams (D3 captained by James Bandler and D7 captained by Marc Grossman/David Kohn) were front runners in their divisions. Intraclub was formed in November and over 40 men took to the courts on Tuesday evenings to compete in an organized in-house league. At the time that the men’s league was suspended, a women’s intraclub was formed, not knowing if the women’s side would be halted. Special thanks to Jane Walsh and Michelle Shain for captaining the two intra teams which played up to five courts every Wednesday morning. The women’s interclub season was a different story. The women’s teams competed the entire season without any hiccups and our D2 team (captained by Elyse Alper/Michelle Weisberg) finished in first place. There were plenty of weekend organized morning “pools” of women’s, men’s and mixed doubles with the courts full of active participants. Pools continue throughout March. Our ladies and men’s doubles club championships will be held on March 20th and 21st and our mixed doubles club championships will be held on April 10th and 11th.
Paddle Pro Tip As we head into March and the weather warms up here are a few adjustments that need to be made playing in warmer conditions: 1. Stay low at the net because the drives in the warmer temperatures will tend to fly as the ball is livelier. Staying low with your paddle set between your chest will prevent you from playing out balls. P R O
2. When driving the ball keep the backswing to a minimum with the emphasis on the follow through. This will keep the ball in the court. Also take 25% off of the pace and you will become a steadier player.

We are looking forward to a great summer! The har-tru courts will be reconditioned and open for play towards the end of April, weather permitting and the hard courts are open for play. The pro shop will open Saturday, April 24th. Ladies team tryouts, for those who are new to teams, or looking to move up, are scheduled for Friday, April 23rd and Saturday, April 24th time TBD. The North Shore and Interclub doubles team levels range from A1-C1 so there is a level for everyone. Practices and matches begin the first week in May. The fee to play on a team is $450 which includes 14 weeks of practice, league fees, balls and drinks. Ladies boot camp is scheduled for Wednesday, April 28th and Friday, April 30th from 10am-12pm. The fee to play on a men’s team is $100 which includes league fees, balls, drinks and snacks. Our spring junior program begins on May 11th and runs for 6 weeks: Tuesday’s: 9-11 year olds 4-5pm (5-6 if needed) Wednesday’s: 5-7 year olds 4-5pm , 7-9 year olds 5-6pm Thursday’s: 4.5-5 year olds 3:15pm-4pm , 12+ year olds 4:15pm-5:15pm

As I write this article there is still snow on the pool deck, but I am already in pool mode as I can’t wait to get our pool opened, for what will be a very exciting 2021! The pool committee led by Danielle Greenberg and members have already began meeting and are working hard to finalize not only new activities, but additions to the menu as well! I am very excited to welcome back our Manager Rachel Burke to oversee the Snack Bar. Rachel has not only come up with new menu items, she is also working on some real fun activities that we will look to implement on a weekly basis. We are hoping to get more games for the young ones by the entrance, pool activities including lifeguard for a day, water aerobics and more! For Moms and Dads we are going to add some sunset cocktails by the poolside. Stay tuned as 2021 will be a blast!

You spoke last year and we listened, many of our 2020 procedures worked out so well we will continue to implement them for this season. We will continue with the Reservations System and time slots to ensure seating, parking and an enjoyable time for all. We will start with early morning lap swimming followed by additional time slots. The Entrance and Exit for the pool will also remain the same. While our little friendly racoons may be cute to look at from a far, we don’t want them joining in on our swim slots, so we will be relocating the dumpster, and installing some fencing to help. The diving board has been reinforced and will now be for the use of our younger members only. Sorry Dads, and yes, no guards will be doing tricks off the board either. I am currently in contact with some of the returning guards as well as some new lifeguards that will be trained and certified with Nassau County. We also have an in-house training here at The Village Club, as I am always looking to raise our level of service. Snack Bar Employees will go through a similar service training with Rachel. She will lead them in not only customer service training, but menu familiarity as well. The Snack Bar will continue with deck side beverage service, as we will be bringing back everyone’s favorite “Summer Sangria” in addition to new poolside drinks! Check your emails as we finalize programs with more specific dates and details. Stay safe and can’t wait to see you at the pool soon.

As I begin my eighth season here at the Village Club of Sand’s Point, the entire culinary team is very excited to be back cooking for the membership. This last year was challenging for both the membership and the staff, but we were able to work together to create a positive food and beverage experience for everyone. The overwhelming support and trust that you placed in us last season was greatly appreciated. We will continue to adapt to the everchanging COVID pandemic rules and regulations related to providing a safe food service environment. We are building on that momentum and positivity for 2021 by introducing some new and exciting dishes to the Grille menu, enhancing the menu at the Pool Snack Bar, offering more member functions, and expanding our take- out services. The team has put a lot of thought and energy to include more options for Holiday Take Home Catering. Since we are still not able to be together at this time, it makes us feel good that we can still be a part of your special holidays by providing the classic dishes that you love, enjoyed from the comfort of your own home. Passover will be our first Take Home Catered Holiday and we have already been working hard planning our Seder dinner to go package. These traditional Passover favorites will be wonderfully prepared by us and available for a contactless pick up to be enjoyed by your families in the comfort of your home. We have also began planning some in person upscale wine dinners for this season. Ashley and I have been working hand in hand to pair Long Island Wineries with the amazing variety of produce, seafood, poultry and game available in this region. We are truly fortunate to be surrounded by such an assortment of inspiring and fresh ingredients. The culinary team and I will once again be planting our vegetable and herb garden in the spring. We will continue our little VCSP “Farm to Table” concept to intertwine with a variety of menus. We will eventually harvest fresh
basil, thyme, parsley, oregano, chives, and of course the fresh mint for Jeanie’s famous Mojitos at the Grille. We will also harvest green zucchini for our eggplant meatballs, baby heirloom tomatoes and a variety of peppers for daily use at the Grille. I could not be prouder of how this garden has truly “blossomed” into such a treasured aspect of the club.

SPRING 2021
The new Grille menu that we will be rolling out for our opening season will include a grilled American Wagu steak, line caught local Black Seabass, Hudson Valley Duck Breast, and a Pear & Arugula Salad featuring a goat cheese from the North Fork of Long Island. I am looking to provide more variety in the menus this year by frequently debuting new items at the Grille. Come late April, we will introduce our Spring menu that will feature a lot more regional items as they become available with the warmer weather approaching.
We are very excited for this upcoming season and all the wonderful food possibilities that await. I am looking forward to serving you whether it be for dining in or takeout, Pool Side, or for COVID safe events at the Mansion!

As the 2021 season approaches, the entire Grille team is extremely excited to reopen! We are looking forward to a bit more normalcy, after the challenges and uncertainty of last year. Our service team will be spending the week before the Grille reopens on training to better serve our members and guests. We will be focusing on how to be both efficient and effective in our service to improve your member experience. With table side exercises, mixology training, and updates to our POS System; I am confident in our ability to further excel this year! The Grille will be opening on March 11th for indoor dining and curb side takeout. The club’s contactless takeout service has had a very positive response from our membership. We were honored to provide a safe takeout service during difficult times that all members could rely on. The Grille will continue takeout service throughout this season with the option to call in earlier that day for a specific pick-up time. Even though takeout was such a huge success, we also had an abundance of members utilizing our outdoor patio up until the first snowfall in December. Once the warm weather starts sneaking through, we will get the awning up so that we can extend our dining experience once again. The response to our outdoor dining setup was incredible last season, an amenity that will continue to be a safe environment this year. Our tables will continue to be 6 feet apart so you can feel comfortable while having a delicious meal and cocktail. Sanitizing stations will always be available and our team will be taking every precaution to ensure a safe environment. To accompany our top level of service, Chef Jack will also be showing off his culinary skills this season. The kitchen will be debuting new menu items more frequently; with delicious and unique dishes that everyone will enjoy. Chef will also continue to have exciting specials available on a nightly basis for both takeout and in-house dining. As for behind the bar, we are creating a spring cocktail menu with new and refreshing beverages to be enjoyed alongside a meal at the Grille or to take out onto the course. I am excited for our team to continue to grow and improve, while providing each of you with service and cuisine at a superior level. As we prepare for a fresh season to begin, the VCSP team is eager to open up strong! Managing through Covid has been difficult, but our food and beverage program has flourished and we are operating stronger than ever, I couldn’t be prouder of our team. Takeout was a huge success, not only did our takeout business blossom at the Grille, but our catered holidays received raved reviews from members alike! These are two services we are excited to continue to offer as we enter this new season. Seder dinner will be the first holiday we offer as a take out menu along with Mother’s Day. We look forward to creating wine lists to pair beautifully with our menu selections.
Our members also took advantage of ordering bottled wine to go, which was reflected towards food and beverage minimums. These sales cleared out a ton of our wine inventory, and we are thrilled to introduce a completely brand-new wine list and new specialty cocktails! I have worked with our retailers to offer a great selection of popular wines to complement our menu! We have designed a brand new cocktail menu at the pool with light and refreshing poolside options. I have been working hand-in-hand with Chef Jack to include new Grille Items, fresh snack bar items and great member event menus! We will continue to offer weekly specials at the grille for both food and beverage this season as well! Liz and Karl have a great line up of events that we will be pairing with receptions to follow!
From all the membership surveys you have kindly answered, we feel we have a strong grasp on our members comfort levels as we reopen in terms of Events. The results from the event survey that went out in February, will be used as a great tool in planning this upcoming social calendar. We plan to continue to offer fire pit nights at the mansion which are a great social distant event along with other intimate themed dinners. Our first event to open the mansion will be our Easter BBQ and egg hunt, similar to how we hosted Halloween. This was a huge success with limited capacity and distant fun, a model we are happy to continue to offer for the kids. I have been working with a lot of great vendors to introduce pairing nights, we appreciate that our members would like other beverage options along with our beloved wine dinners!
With the expansion of member use this past season, we are delighted to announce the club will be shifting from hosting both private non-member events to member events only at the mansion by the 2022 season. With the amount of growing families that have joined our community we understand the mansion is the perfect backdrop for all events. By 2022, our calendar will be solely used for our membership only. Once the warm weather comes our way, we will try to host as many of our events outdoors as we can. As always, your ideas and suggestions are welcomed! Please feel free to email me at ashley@villageclub.org for any additional feedback, looking forward to seeing you all around the club!
