Dear Members,

E N G E L

What an incredible summer we had here at The Village Club! Our team worked harder than ever to provide you all with exceptional member experiences; from the Golf Course to Tennis Courts, and the Grille to the Pool Deck. There was something for everyone this summer. There was no better way to end the summer than with all of you for our Labor Day Light Up the Sky Firework display. This was truly an example of how wonderful a Club & Community we are when we all come together. Matt Engel, the Club Chairman, and I took a quick moment away from setting up the fireworks to chat with you about the incredible summer we had and all the great Fall activities to come! Please click the video link below and sit in on what we discussed.

A Note From

The Assistant General Manager K E V I N

D U D L E S T O N ,

P G A

As we transition into the Fall season, I cannot, but look back fondly, on our fun and adventurous summer season, which was bookended by the nothing-but-short of spectacular firework event, we held on the Friday of Labor Day weekend. It was a joy to be a part of, especially to see over 1200 of our members and residents of Sands Point enjoying such a wonderful event.

From a management perspective, we did see many challenges throughout the summer season, but I am proud of how the VCSP team collectively came together. More importantly, was to see how our membership also became part of the team as we all continue to navigate these choppy “covid-19” waters. One of my favorite moments was when our first clambake had to be rapidly moved from an outside event to indoors. To see our members, embrace the change, take it in their stride, and then make it a wonderful experience for all was amazing. This is truly what being part of the Village Club of Sands Point is all about, whether you are a member or part of the staff.

We re-introduced our free ‘continental breakfast’ program for all members on Fridays and at the weekends. Based on feedback, we kept the lap lanes open all day long at the Pool, and we also promoted the use for all tennis and golf members to utilize our pool café for lunch and dinner as an alternative to the Grille at the busy weekends.

We have received positive feedback from our halfway house offering on the Golf Course. For this year, this was just a ‘trial’ and again it came with challenges. We will continue this to the end of September this year and then look to build a more robust service in 2022.

4

FALL 2021

The Fall season at the Village Club of Sands Point is my favorite time of the year. Our members experience a golf course with fall foliage; our racquet members enjoy a time to play tennis in cool conditions before transitioning into Platform, and although our Leisure members no longer have the pool, then they get to enjoy the huge social calendar program we have to offer. We have brought in new key staff, like Jeff Atura, who is dedicated to identifying efficiencies at the Grille to develop better Front of House experience services and be a primary contact for you.

As membership is my ‘bread and butter’, it would be wrong of me not to mention, that very soon, we will be entering the membership renewal process. 2022 Membership pricing is close to being finalized. As many of you know, we have a huge waiting list of families wishing to join across all membership categories. We are looking forward to upgrading existing members should they desire first. As soon as the renewal emails go out, please act fast, and sign-up before the deadline as we will begin to offer potential members your spots.

I hope you have a fun remainder of the year and continue to be part of a wonderful community in 2022. Hopefully, with COVID behind us, we will be able to bring back some of our old favorites such as the brunches in the mansion, the family camp-out, etc. next year.

We have a lot to celebrate and be thankful for in 2021 at the VCSP! The golf course has been in outstanding shape all season and we have had record turnouts for most of our events thus far. The season kicked off with my favorite event of 2021, The VCSP Masters! There were two-person teams and they played better ball of partners for 18 holes. Before they teed off, they both picked a PGA Pro playing in the Masters and their scores were added to the team score. It made Saturday afternoon watching the Masters that much more exciting! Food and Beverage did an amazing job recreating the same food and beverage you get when you’re lucky enough to go to the real Masters at Augusta! Here is a quick recap of the rest of the season so far: 19 foursomes for our Opening Day Scramble Over 55 women have participated in our Tuesday League Over 130 Men played in our Thursday Men’s Thursday League Over 200 juniors in our Spring Jr. Golf Program Our Men’s and Women’s Member guests were well attended and a big success. August events included the Men’s Senior Stroke play Championship & the Husband/Wife Championship We had several new events that we are excited about: 1. Women’s Wednesday Night Drinks and Drives 2. Golf Course Update A Note From

S U P E R I N T E N D E N T

It’s been a busy summer here at VCSP. Between the heatwaves, storms, and what seemed to be endless rain, we persevered. During one storm, the giant tulip tree on the 12th came crashing down on the green. The damage to the green was minimal, but the rough surrounding the green was destroyed. This winter we will strip the area surrounding the green and resod it. We have also sprayed the rough between the green and the 13th tee and started to transform it into a native area. This will change the overall aesthetic of the hole and force all traffic along the left side. Aerification was extremly smooth this year. Then came Hurricane Henri. We received 9 inches of rain over the course of 2 days and the course was playable Tuesday morning. This is a prime example of why aerification is beneficial and important. Having soils that become compacted over the course of the season do not allow for water to drain through the soil profile. It’s a necessary evil and has played a huge part in elevating our playing conditions. This winter we will perform a more extensive and disruptive areification where we pull core on all of the playing surfaces. I am happy to announce that phase 1 of our paving project has been completed. Working closely with Jeff Shepard and Kevin Dudleston, we have identified the areas throughout the golf course that require immediate attention. Over the next few seaons we will be chipping away these areas and making the trip around the course a smoother and much more enjoyable ride. 11

Last year we held our first Superintendent's revenge tournament here at VCSP. Since then I have been doing some research and can't wait for this year's tournament. I know everyone had a great time last year and many of you even had some suggestions for this year. It’s a real treat for myself and the rest of the grounds crew. They enjoy setting it up and watching everyone struggle to overcome the obstacles. A few of the crew members have also offered suggestions on what they would like to do for the event, so this year you will be at their mercy.

I would like to say thank you to the membership for helping to fill divots and fixing ball marks. I have noticed a lot less of each on my daily inspections of the golf course. I hope to see y’all out there enjoying the course. If you ever have a question or comment, feel free to stop me and I’ll be more than happy to answer. Racquet Sports Update A Note From T

S P O R T S

The summer of 2021 was memorable in so many ways. Darya Ivanova and Mike Motyka joined the professional staff and wowed the membership with their expertise, professionalism, and passion for the game. Darya and Mike took to the courts daily with the same enthusiasm from sunup to sundown! It was such a joy for them to watch everyone having fun learning and improving their games! Sue Tarzian returned for her 8th season and was a tremendous help with team practices, doubles strategy, and lessons. Lauren Zola and Ilan Litvak were available as hitters though out the summer and were a great addition to the team!

In April, the season hit the ground running with a record number of tennis players hitting the courts. The women’s teams had over 90 women practicing each week learning various skills and strategies from the professional staff. Intraclub resumed and the Interclub and North Shore leagues were back in action after a yearlong hiatus. The enthusiasm for tennis practices each week was contagious and inspiring! Our 6 teams fought hard, and the B2 North Shore team won their division! Thanks to the captains, Stacey Kaufman and Tomm Miller for leading their team to victory. Our C1 Interclub team, which had the largest number of participants that I can remember had 28 ladies playing both intraclub and interclub each week and each of the ladies spent the summer dedicating themselves to improving. The team clinched 2nd place with only 1 point behind the eventual winners, West Side Tennis Club. A big thank you to Stacy Levens and Melissa Strugatz for captaining the team and leading them through an amazing season. Special thanks to the rest of the women’s captains: Meredith Steigman (A1), Lisa Barshay/Carol Stack (A2), and Erica Tropp/Jess Miller (B2). Thanks to Brett Korn for captaining the Men’s Thursday night Country Club League team. More than 20 men participated, and the guys had a solid season of competitive matches and advanced to the playoffs. They put up a great battle against Picquet Lane but came up short in the first round. J U N I O R

Our 6-week Spring Junior Program kicked off in early May with over 60 children ranging from 5-14 in age. Each week the kids focused on team building skills (sportsmanship, inclusivity, honesty), the fundamentals, and fun games. After a long year of not seeing their friends at sleep away camp, they happily headed back. In mid-July the younger kids attended the weekly Sunday Swing for a fun clinic of learning, games, and music. It was terrific to see the younger players pick up tennis and develop new skills.

The season kicked off with Member Appreciation Day where Mike and Darya treated our members to a fun "battle of the sexes match". Corks & Courts Mixer had over 45 participants who enjoyed fun doubles and a delicious taco night dinner. There is a slight chill in the air which means September is here and the pool has closed for 2021. Yes, I am a little sad as well, although I look back and it does make me happy that we were able to operate all summer long without any interruptions. I am also happy that our spring projects came to fruition and were well received. This included our very well-used playground for the younger ones. ( Ok, maybe the sandbox was a bit messy but hey, they are kids right? Plus it was Rachel's idea not mine 😉) Our expanded deck behind the diving board, as well as the north side, was very much needed especially on some weekends. With this expansion, we did purchase 24 more umbrellas that were all utilized. The new and improved Harbor Café saw an increase in business and the Pool Bar did very well this summer. (Thank you to our Happy Hour Swimmers). Mid-season we were able to eliminate time slots for weekdays but kept them on weekends. I think this worked very well as there were some weekends that we were at capacity The new guest policy was also well received, it was nice to see some of you being able to bring some family and friends during the week and mornings on weekends. For those who were at the pool during the week between the hours of 930a.m. and 11a.m. yes it was a bit noisy but again they are kids and it was camp 😉 Camp was just about sold out this summer all 6 weeks, so if you are interested for next season, sign up early. Speaking of signing up early, for those who wish to rejoin the pool next season signing up early will be a good idea as this year pool memberships were at capacity.

Overall and with the feedback of many of you, I believe the season went very well. That being said, I plan to meet with Danielle Greenberg Pool Committee Chair (Thanks to Danielle for all her help this season) and the pool committee to discuss what went well, what we can do differently, and how we can get better, and offer more next season. Even though the pool is closed I will be down by the pool all September and even into October as we are making repairs, installing a new safety cover, fixing some of the roads, etc. So, if you're bringing the kiddies to the playground, stop by and say hello. ( no you can't just swim one lap) Have a great fall and winter.

Family,

My wife Laura, our daughter Samantha and I would like to thank you all, the membership family of the VCSP for the tremendous love and support during this very difficult time.

The loss of Taylor Rose has been a tragic moment that has affected so many lives. She was an amazing young woman that accomplished so much in her nearly twenty five years of life. The kindness and compassion that she showed towards others are a part of who she was and will live on through all the people she has touched.

Over these last two months we have received so many beautiful cards, notes, flowers, and gifts of donations made in Taylor’s name to LIVE ON NY – supporting Organ Donation here in New York. When she received her Heart Transplant in 2016, it inspired her to be a spokesperson for the organization, educating people about the process and signing them up to become an organ donor.

The VCSP membership’s support for this cause has been amazing. This thank you goes out to the Village Board of Trustees, the Operating Committee, the entire Membership, Management Team and Staff.

You have all made a tremendous effort to bring us comfort in some way and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

It has truly been a summer for the memory books. With our membership at a record high, all of us at the VCSP continue to diligently work; at all ends of the club, to provide events, activities, culinary treats, and an all-around oasis for every member to enjoy!

With a few hiccups, we welcomed online event registration. Signing up for VCSP's next big member event or golf tournament has never been easier!

From the Tennis Courts to the Tee-Box and all the snacks, beverages, and member events in between; each and every department has kept busy making the most of these long awaited summer days. We filled our summer season with Tennis Mixers, Golf Leagues, Sunrise Yoga, Water Aerobics, and plenty of fun events for the family. From superhero brunch to holiday BBQs at Grille and kids DJs at the pool, there was always something to do! In Early June we welcomed some mythical mermaids to the pool for our first-ever Mermaid Day! These mermaids swam all the way in from the Atlantis Aquarium bringing their magic with them. The mermaids enchanted the VCSP little ones and led a memorable morning of pool games, storytime, singalongs, and even some mermaid swim lessons!

Everyone’s favorite event, our second annual Taste of Summer was hosted in mid-July on the pool deck. With the addition of some incredible food trucks, live music, and beach ball arch this renowned summer event attracted over 250 members who partied the night away under the stars!

FALL

2021

Our ClamBake's, VCSP Masters Golf Event, and Jr.Golf & Jr.Tennis programs filled many members' social calendars, but we saved the biggest and best events for the end of summer! Our Hamptons Style White Party dripped in custom decor decorations from top to bottom including a 6 piece live band, Aperol spritz cart, beach cabanas, and a flower swing! There were photo ops and passed hor d’oeuvres around every turn!

We concluded our summer with a bang! As the VCSP Lights up the Sky Labor Day Fireworks extravaganza hit the harbor on Friday, September 3rd, we celebrated with gusto. From the food trucks to the carnival rides, from the beer carts to the cotton candy, Labor Day was truly one of VCSP's best summer weekends! All the departments came together to make that day possible. I speak for us all when I say that the joy that we saw on the member’s faces was better than the fireworks show itself (Although those fireworks were pretty incredible!). But even with the best of the summer days behind us, we are still planning and looking forward to an incredible, and eventful Fall here at the Club!

We will be hosting a Glow in the Dark Glow Golf Night, Wine Dinner, Card Party, Platform Tennis Clinics, and holiday takeout! Mark your calendars for Halloween weekend, as we have already begun working on our biggest and spookiest Halloween Bash yet! Adults will be celebrating Halloween with us on Saturday, October 30th, followed by a kid-friendly Brunch on Halloween Day, Sunday, October 31st. We are pulling out all our pumpkins & cobwebs as we celebrate in Spookey style on the Mansion Lawn under the tented night sky! This is one event you would be a ghoul to miss!

It has been a busy, but incredibly rewarding time planning and executing all these different events! As we start to look forward to planning our 2022 event calendar I welcome any and all feedback! What events or activities would you like to see VCSP host?

THE SANDS POINT LIGHT HOUSE The Sands Point Lighthouse is the fourth lighthouse to be established on Long Island, this 1809 stone tower was built by an American Revolutionary War veteran who stayed on as its first keeper for many years.
