Message from THE GENERAL MANAGER We are officially into Fall and its almost the Holiday Season! We had a very active October. Our Family Halloween Brunch was a “screaming” success. The event sold out for the first time. The pouring rain could not stop the fun! Thank you to all the families that came out this year and we hope to be able to accommodate even more members next year with this great event. A huge THANK YOU to Lucy from the Grille and Lori & Richie from the Golf Shop. For two years in a row they have worked countless hours to create a heart stopping experience that nightmares are made of. These three amazed us all once again with their planning and execution of the “Creepy Carnival” for the Adult Halloween Party. Although Thanksgiving is on a waitlist, we still have our Holiday Boutique on 12/5 and Gingerbread Brunches on Sundays throughout December. As our events are getting more popular, we encourage you to sign up as early as possible. Construction is well underway on #11 & #16. Ethan and his team are working hard to rebuild those two fairways to create a more enjoyable golfing experience for our members in 2020. Very soon you will receive a satisfaction survey in your inbox. Please take the time to fill that out. Your feedback is invaluable to us as we shape the future of the club. We want to hear from you! Don’t forget … It’s renewal season. If you haven’t already, please fill out your renewal forms either on paper or online for 2020. If you complete it by December 1st, you will receive 6 free guest passes for next season. Happy Holiday Season! Dana Cancellaro, CCM General Manager 3

Golf News As the 2019 golf season winds down, I wanted to make sure all of you are aware of the VCSP Golf Winter Program which provides opportunities for each of you to continue to swing a golf club through the winter months. Above the Pro Shop, we are equipped with one FlightScope launch monitor, Swing Catalyst video software and two hitting bays. The FlightScope is an amazing machine. It is a radarbased Launch Monitor that tracks the golf ball from the moment of impact to when it hits the ground. When you hit the ball indoors the data is calculated at impact and the diagnostics are incredibly accurate. FlightScope is an invaluable tool for teaching as well as for club fitting should you wish to use it to help you determine which items of golf equipment best suit your game. Golf members will have two options to use the hitting bays 1.) Until December 15, 2019 when the Pro Shop officially closes for the 2019 season, access to upstairs will be available only during Pro Shop hours. From December 16, 2019 until January 15, 2020, Todd Bardfeld, our Director of Outdoor Golf Operations, will be available Thursdays through Sunday from 9am – 3pm to allow you access to upstairs. You must reserve a time by emailing Todd at starter@villageclub.org to schedule access during those hours. We will revisit the issue of Golf member access to upstairs after January 15, 2020. 2.) Golf members may also gain access to upstairs and use FlightScope and Swing Catalyst during private lessons with our Golf professionals. A typical lesson runs for 60 minutes. However, with two hitting bays, we can accommodate group lessons of up to 4 golfers at one time. Rates for individual lessons are $135/per hour lesson. Group rates will be quoted based on specifics. All lesson inquiries should be emailed to me at karlobermeyer@villageclub.org. We encourage you to come use this upstairs training facility either alone or in groups. Our Golf staff will provide a free demonstration to anyone who has not been upstairs and would like to see how the equipment works. However, during your sessions either Todd or one of our professionals will oversee handling the equipment. Please call me in the Pro Shop or email me with any questions. Karl Obermeyer, PGA Director of Golf 5
Golf Course Update It has been a weird cycle of weather these past few weeks. Over the last 2 weeks we have been renovating our 11th fairway. Throughout the last few seasons there has been some settling of the soil and large sinkholes have appeared. Now that the subsurface has been addressed and regraded, we can begin to install the new sod. During the next few weeks, it is very crucial that no one enters into the area. It will be soft and mushy and any traffic will disturb the finished product. The hole will reopen for play once we have finished all the sod work. Next, we will begin renovation on the 16th fairway. It will be much more invasive than the work we have done on the 11th fairway. We look to excavate the poor soils that are in place and will heavily amend them. Once we are done with these 2 holes completely, we will start to tackle some more of the sinkholes throughout the course. We pushed August aerification to the fall this year. In the upcoming weeks we will be out and about aerifiying whatever we can. I know that no one wants to see this happen to a golf course but it is for the greater good. The reason many of the greens and fairways have bounced back from last season is the fact that we were able to continually aerify them in the winter and early spring. We have lots to do over the winter and early spring. Here’s to hoping mother nature isn’t too cruel to us and we can continue to make improvements to the course throughout the winter. Ethan Johnson .

Racquet Sports Update Cold Weather Paddle Now that there is a chill in the air playing paddle in the cold is quite different than in warmer weather. The ball will behave differently and doesn’t move as quickly. It won’t “jump” off the paddle and the screens as it does in the warmer weather. When playing on the baseline make sure you stay behind your shots and follow through or the ball will not go anywhere. If you are reaching for the ball you will tend to lob short and it will only be a matter of time before you get burned in the screens. The drive will slow down in the cooler temperatures making it easier for your opponents to volley. Stay patient and disciplined in the back court lobbying a few more balls before you look for the drive. When at the net try and hit some softer overheads into the side screens so that your opponent isn’t sure if it will get to the back screen. The ball reacts different in the cooler weather, but these tips should help with your success.

FOOD & BEVERAGE UPDATE Fall has been a very active and fun season here at the Village club. Our F&B team has been working very hard in making the season as special as possible. We had a great turn out for our farm to table fall wine dinner. The kids Halloween brunch was a total success and parents are still raving about it, so much so, that we are introducing a similar concept event in January called “ Princess Tea Party” so make sure to sign up for that. The adult Halloween party was also successful and lots of scary fun with the great addition of our traditional “haunted hotel”. Member events coming up; November Sunday brunches at the mansion on the 17th. Thanksgiving dinner at the mansion is now sold out, but we are still taking wait list reservations only. For December, we are already getting reservations for the gingerbread house brunch, please sign up quickly as space and gingerbread houses are limited. From the Grille; the new fall menu was introduced, and the feedback has been very positive. We started working on the wine list. Some of the noticeable additions are; Cade Cabernet and white rose pinot noir both very known, popular and highly rated. A discounted section was added, so be sure to take full advantage of very good wines at a very low price. Very important to take note of, now that the outside seating is closed for the season, please be sure to make your reservations as early as possible as the space is very limited indoors. As the 2019 season start to wind down, and some of our great team members, especially the seasonal are mostly done working with us for this year. Please join me and thank them all for their hard work throughout the year. Lastly, I would also like to thank the whole membership at the VCSP for being part of our club.
