Jake’s friend looked everywhere for his favorite toy. “I don’t know where it is,” Jake said nervously, hiding the toy behind him.
That evening, Jake sat by himself at Camp Brite Star. “I should have told the truth,” he thought. “But now I don’t know what to do.”

“I told a lie,” Jake admitted. “Now I don’t know how to fix it.” Teacher Squirrel nodded kindly. “Honesty can be hard, but it’s always the right choice,” she said.
Teacher Squirrel opened a storybook and read aloud. “This
critter learned that lying hurt their friends, but telling the truth made things right again,” she explained.
Teacher Squirrel said, “Let’s practice.” Jake pretended to tell the truth, and Teacher Squirrel smiled. “See? You can do this!”
Jake held out the broken toy to a critter.
“I’m sorry I didn’t tell the truth,” he said. The
critter smiled. “Thank you for being honest,” they said. “That means a
lot.”
Teacher Squirrel handed Jake a gold star. “Telling the truth takes bravery,” she said. “I’m proud of you.”
The next day, Jake approached his friend. “I broke your toy,” he said. “I’m really sorry.” His friend smiled. “Thanks for telling me. We can fix it together!”
Jake and his friend worked on the toy.
“Honesty really does make things better,” Jake said, feeling relieved.
That night, Jake thought about being honest at home. “I’ll always tell the truth, even when it’s hard,” he said.
