VOLUME 2 ISSUE 1

letter from the editor

Hey!

Welcome to the very first issue in Volume 2 of Violet Roots magazine! This revamped format is

new, improved, and packed with even more inspirational content than ever before! For those of you who are new to the magazine side of VR - my name is Monika. I'm the artist and Head Creative Sorceress aka EIC at violetroots.com. As of right now, VR has 3 branches. VR the blog, VR

the mag and VR the art studio. All aspects come together to craft the perfect storm of color, clarity and creativity! Each quarterly Issue of VR mag has a theme tailor-made to help you

get through each season with intention in mind and inspiration at heart! The main Winter 2017 feature is the "Slow Life Challenge." I hope this season's content is able to guide, support and encourage you to spend more time living and less time going through the motions!

WHAT TO EXPECT IN 2017

"It's so thrilling to be in this position right now."

2017 marks the start of my 3rd year as a blogger. I feel like I'm just now starting to get into a groove and find my place in the blogging world.

want to expand on creativity. Really dig deep and see how creativity manifests in both the small and larger aspects of our daily life.

It's so thrilling to be in this position right now. I have so many ideas and so many plans. I don't know where it will all end up but I feel confident in the fact that with each passing year Violet Roots gets closer and closer to my vision.

I'd also like to amp up the content that's already on VR. It's great to debut valuable information but it never hurts to breathe new life into tried and true older ideas.

This year I want to double down on the topic of creativity. Last year was all about laying down the right foundation. I covered a lot of introductory subjects and answered a few questions that nag creatives of all shapes and sizes. So, moving forward I

You can also look forward to more audio content and an entire rebrand as far as my site design and imagery are concerned. Photography has been on my to-do list for a while and although there were several hurdles to climb over last year I expect to get back on track now! Halfway through this year 3

WHAT TO EXPECT IN 2017 CONT. I will have relocated. I'm not sure what kind of impact that will have on VR. What I can tell you however, is that the move will present me with new opportunities to provide you with the absolute best content! In the beginning there might be a brief learning curve while I adjust to my surroundings. Still, I won't leave you high and dry in the process! There will be plenty of freebies and content for you to chew on while I'm swimming in cardboard boxes and movers tape haha! This year I'd love to also become even more

available to you than I have in the past. I'm not sure what format that will take just yet but I'm open to ideas! If there is something you'd want from me feel free to let me know. Is there something I haven't done yet that you'd love to see me try? Anything that I should stop doing? Feel free to shout it across to me from your corner of the internet to mine! 2ND Blogiversary When I started Violet Roots I never knew it would be where it is today. I've learned so much since then. Looking back at my very first few posts makes me want to cringe. If you dig around you can still find them online, I don't believe in deleting old posts simply because they're embarrassing, I think they can still serve a purpose.

They can either be updated and made even more valuable than before OR they can be used as a marker of personal progress Anytime you start to feel down you can look at where you began. This is not just applicable to blogging. You can easily use this to put other areas of your life into perspective.

I don't believe in deleting old posts . . . they can be used as a marker of personal progress. It will allow you to appreciate the work you've put in and, in time, you can learn to not be so hard on yourself. That's one of the major takeaways I've learned. To celebrate my blogiversary I'm hosting an art giveaway so get excited! 6

VR As the first quarter of the year shuffles along I think it's important to not get caught up in the hype.

This season I want to challenge you to slow down and be strategic. Don't rush through goals and milestones just for the sake of it.

S L O W L I F E C H A L L E N G E So this season I want to challenge you to live slower! Take at least one aspect of your life and adopt a more methodical attitude towards it. When you live slower and discard the 24/7 hustle mentality you open yourself up. With less stress in your life and more fulfillment you can achieve much more. Lately, our culture has put "hustling" on a pedestal. As if

It's easy to get caught up in what everyone else is doing but in the end you'll get more from moving intentionally slower.

sacrificing part of our lives is something that should be praised. I'm sorry but I'd much rather have a healthy balance than be overworked and burnt out. So where should you begin? Try your work/life balance. If you work for yourself set actual office hours. If you work a 9-5 set aside time just for you. Create a goal and leave the go-go-go mentality behind!

the music COLLECTION

What collection?

The album behind it.

Each collection will feature abstract pieces that represent a particular song from an album.

Until then, you're the first to know that my latest collection will be inspired by Kid Cudi's new album, Passion, Pain & Demon Slayin. The sound is on a whole other wavelength and is Kid Cudi to the max. I love the intro spection on this record and I've enjoyed translating it into art.

At the end of last year, I announced that I would start an art collection inspired by the albums that mean the most to me.

What inspired this?

Music means so much to me. Although art is my first love, music comes in at a close second. Both things inspire me on a daily basis and for me, music and art go hand in hand. So, with that being said, it's only natural that I draw from both to create something unique.

I plan to do an in-depth post dedicated to my album selection. Keep a look out for that coming this season to Violet Roots!

For me, music & art go hand in hand" "
