Respect what lights you up & value that personal time! Still, I don’t want to create in a vacuum and neither should you. I don’t want to have to be in an alternate scenario of any kind in order to spend time doing what matters most to me. Recently we discussed the value of a creative space but truly there is much more to the subject. What I’m attempting to get at is that I believe we need to regularly take time away from our responsibilities. I’m not saying that you should stop paying your mortgage or that you should let your kids fend for themselves. I’m not suggesting that you slack off at your job or that you neglect that favor you were supposed to do for your friend. What I am suggesting however, is that you consistently find the time to add a little bit of “me time” into each day. I may not get to paint every day but I do make a point to have at least a small amount of time each day squared away so that I can do something in the creative realm. Personally, as I get older I’ve realized that nothing good happens if I attempt to

shelf my “light” in order to focus on what I believe to be more pressing “adult” matters. When I’m creating I release both positive and negative energy out into the world. If I keep that energy pent up I become worse for wear. Respecting what lights me up, and valuing that personal time has done wonders for me. We’re all busy but take a moment, even if it’s just 5 minutes, to only focus on yourself. Your responsibilities aren’t going anywhere. “Rising Male Artists to Watch”
June’s #VRxMusic Bonus! dance to these Violet Beats all month! In this month’s music roundup I thought I’d try something different. Instead recommending songs I’ll link to the playlists from the past month and share which songs were my favorite. I’d love for you to share which songs pulled you in so feel free to tweet me and get the conversation going! May was very Game of Thrones heavy. I won’t deny that there might be a smidge more to come in June. We’re halfway through the season and I just can’t get out of the ASOIAF vortex (not that I really want to). This past month my fave playlist would have to be the rising “Male Artists to
Watch” segment. Those guys are on the verge of greatness!
#VRxMusic Picks: • Male Artists To Watch • Beyoncé Visual Album Debut • Spotify x Game of Thrones: The Starks • Spotify x Game of Thrones: The Lion, The Stag & The Rose Which playlist is your fave? Tweet @violetrootsblog using the hashtag #VRxMusic and share what song you’ll be listening to! Have a question? Email me at monika@violetroots.com
