Carrot Bay is located on the north shore of Tortola between Apple Bay and Cane Garden Bay. It is one of the last remaining traditional villages in the British Virgin Islands. Carrot Bay is noted for its greenery, traditional island personality and picturesque views. Today men here continue to fish for a living, and some afternoons you can buy fresh catch from the nearby wharf. The hillsides around Carrot Bay are verdant and moist which provide a good setting for farming. Some of the sweetest fruits such as fig bananas, breadfruits, pineapples and mangos are found in Carrot Bay. Carrot Bay is a hub of island life, glimpsed from a leisurely drive along its coastal road. With a peaceful and community focused pace of life, it is a nice place to go for a walk, or to sit on the waterfront and pass the time of day with whomever you meet. Fisherman selling fresh catch
DEMOGRAPHIC & CULTURE Unlike many other surrounding villages, Carrot Bay has been able to maintain its ethnicity. Over 95% of its population is of African or Afro-Caribbean descent. The look and feel is wholly original, with traditional buildings, native foods, languages and local songs still intact.
FESTIVALS & EVENTS The main annual event in Carrot Bay is a two-week festival in August commemorating the 1834 Emancipation Act, which abolished slavery. This Cultural Fiesta celebrates the different cultures of the Islands with a community fair type of atmosphere, with plenty

of local food and drink. One of the most popular event during the August festival is the ever popular and amusing, donkey race, in Carrot Bay.
RELIGION Carrot Bay is predominantly a Christian community with a 7th Day Adventist Church and a Methodist Church on the coast road.
DIRECTION TO CARROT BAY Driving from Road Town, take the coast road towards West End, turn right after Big Ben's Coastal Road Suprette. Drive over then down Zion Hill pass the Leonora Delville Primary School on the right, you will arrive at a T-Junction. Sebastian’s Hotel and Restaurant is right ahead of you. Take a right turn towards Bomba’s Shack. Proceed on the coast road passing The Sugar Mill Hotel and Restaurant on the right and then over the short hill into Carrot Bay.
CARROT BAY AT A GLANCE North Shore Shell Museum: The rustic museum offers a unique look at local culture. There are lots of conch shells, traditional wooden model boats (sloops) and other local memorabilia.
