How to Fest

Registration and collecting your ticket

Welcome to Animation Dingle! Animation Dingle is a ticketed event and can only be accessed by legitimate ticket holders.

Our Animation Dingle Festival Desk can be found at the far end of the Dingle Skellig Hotel foyer. Our opening times are:

Thursday 23rd March 15.00 - 19.00

Friday 24th March 08.00 - 19.00

Saturday 25th March 10.00 - 17.00

We are here to help and assist, so please do go to the Desk if you have any questions, queries or concerns.

Please make your way to our Festival Desk to collect your Animation Dingle Festival 2023 Pass.

Please ensure that you have your Eventbrite confirmation with you along with supporting documentation relevant to your Pass type. Required documentation is on your Eventbrite confirmation.

Your Eventbrite confirmation will be scanned, checking you into the festival and you will be issued with your Festival Pass on a lanyard. Our staff will also secure an Animation Dingle Festival wristband to your wrist.

It is ESSENTIAL that you have both of these on your person at all times throughout the Festival. You WILL NOT be permitted entry to any of our events without both your lanyard Festival Pass AND your wristband on your wrist.

In the event that you should lose or misplace either or both of these items, the Festival cannot issue duplicates and you will need to purchase a NEW Pass to gain entry to Festival events. However, we do offer legitimate cases a discounted price on a replacement Pass.

Entry to main events

You DO NOT need to prebook entry to our Conference, Pitch & a Pint, Awards Night, Screenings or our amazing STUDIO FAIR. We recommend, however, you arrive in good time to all of these events in order to secure your seat/space.

Our STUDIO FAIR on Saturday allows you to chat informally to studios and to make enquiries DIRECTLY with them regarding vacancies they may have. Studios are there specifically to support students in this; they want to meet you. If the studio you are interested in is busy when you arrive, this is also a space to hang out and grab a coffee as the bar in this space will be open and we will have tables and seating available. We want this space to be a hub and to be bustling with students!

Entry to booked workshops and events

When you pre-book via Eventbrite before the Festival, you will be issued with a specific code for each booking. As with checking in at our Festival Desk, you will need to present your unique code, along with your festival pass and festival wristband, to gain access to each of your pre-booked workshops and events. Our Festival Team will scan your code and festival pass, before allowing you access.

Please arrive at your venue in good time. Once pre-booked seats are occupied, any Animation Dingle Passholders on waiting lists will be given access. If you arrive late we CANNOT guarantee your place.

What are the system requirements?

You can watch content on PCs running Windows 7+, and Intel-based Macs running OSX 10.12+. You can also watch films on Android tablets and phones using Chrome, and on iPhones and iPads using Safari.

What are the requirements for Windows computers?

Windows 7, Windows 8.1 or Windows 10

Supported browsers: Google Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, Opera. We recommend using the latest version of your browser. Internet Explorer is not supported.

What are the requirements for Mac computers?

Mac OSX 10.12 or later

Supported browsers: Google Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Opera. We recommend using the latest version of your browser.

Can I watch content on my iPhone/iPad?

Yes, you can watch content using Safari on iOS 11.2 or later.

• Note: The “Screen Mirroring” feature cannot be used - please ensure you turn off Screen Mirroring if you encounter trouble playing content.

• Note: You cannot use a lightning to HDMI adapter to connect to your TV. Try using AirPlay instead if you have a compatible TV or streaming box.

Can I watch content on my Android device?

Yes, you can watch content using Chrome on Android 6.0 or later.

Can I Chromecast?

You can cast to a 3rd generation or newer Chromecast stick. To Chromecast from an Android phone or tablet:

• Make sure your Chromecast devices is on the same Wi-fi network as your mobile device

• After the video is playing, tap the “Cast” icon in the bottom right corner of the video player. If the icon doesn’t appear, unfortunately casting is not supported on your device.

To Chromecast from your computer:

• Make sure you’re using Google Chrome as your browser.

• After the video is playing, tap the “Cast” icon in the bottom right corner of the video player. If the icon doesn’t appear, unfortunately casting is not supported on your device.

Can I AirPlay to my AppleTV?

You can AirPlay from most browsers if you have an AirPlay compatible TV or streaming box by selecting the AirPlay button in the bottom right-hand side of the player. If the icon doesn’t appear, unfortunately casting is not supported on your device.

• Compatible Smart TVs include select Samsung, LG, Sony and VIZIO models.

• Compatible streaming boxes include AppleTV Gen4 and above, and select Roku HD streaming devices running the most up-todate software.

Can I use the web browser built into my TV?

Maybe. Unfortunately many built-in Smart TVs’ web browsers don’t support protected content playback. If you get a black screen or error message, it’s likely that your TV is not compatible. Try another method to get the video onto your TV.

Can I connect my computer with a cable to watch on my TV?

You can directly connect your laptop or computer using an HDMI cable, by following these steps:

• Make sure your computer is close enough to your TV for the HDMI cable to reach.

• Connect one end of the HDMI cable into your computer.

• Plug the other end of the cable into an available HDMI port on the TV. Take note of the HDMI input number.

• Using the TV’s remote control, set the TV to the HDMI input that matches the port you connected the cable to.

• If your computer’s display does not automatically appear on your television screen, you may need to have the computer manually detect the display:

• Windows: Right-click on the desktop and select “Display Settings” > “Detect” > “Multiple displays”, and select “Duplicate these displays”), and click Apply.

• Mac: Go to the Apple Menu and choose “System Preferences”. Choose “Displays”, and hold down the “Option” key to show the “Detect Displays” button. Click on “Detect Displays” while holding down the Option key.

What happens if I forget my password?

Use the password reset option on the login page to reset your password. You will need access to the e-mail address you use to log in.

Why does video playback stall or not play smoothly?

We use adaptive bitrate streaming which means the streaming quality will automatically adjust based on your internet speed. If your internet connection is poor or inconsistent you may experience problems during playback. If you’re on wifi, try moving closer to your router.

I see a black screen when I’m trying to AirPlay on my TV

You likely have “Screen Mirroring” turned on in your device settings. Please turn off the screen mirroring setting and start AirPlay by selecting the AirPlay button in the bottom right-hand side of the player.

I see a black screen but can hear audio

If you have an external display or TV connected with an HDMI cable, try disconnecting it. If videos play after it is disconnected, then unfortunately the display or cable doesn’t support encrypted video. Try another method.

Why do I see a black screen after the pre-roll if I am casting to Chromecast?

Some Chromecast versions cannot support transitions from one video to another. If this happens, turn off casting and re-start it once the film starts playing.

Animation Dingle is Ireland’s premiere animation festival and I am delighted to present to you our Conference, Workshops, Screenings and Awards.

We began our call to the animation world early last year and it is now wonderful to present here in Dingle the results of our selection process. Over 100 short animated films from over 26 countries, these films will be exhibited in the iconic St James’s Church and the Beehive Theatre space in Dingle town and the winning awards will be announced at The RTÉjr Animation Dingle Awards on Friday night!

The beauty and simplicity of the Animation Dingle Festival is its compact nature. This allows for Festival attendees to enjoy the town and meet each other around and about. Everything is within walking distance and everyone is welcoming. In fact, Animation Dingle prides itself on how available industry professionals and experts are to support and chat to upcoming animation students.

How to be Amazing (or why we all think we’re not)

Mark introduces the current slate of work from the multi-award-winning studio Aardman and discusses how we treat the development of our own careers in the creative industries and society. Plus, why suffering from imposter syndrome proves you’ll be fine as long as it’s used as a force for good.

Mark Simon Hewis first joined Aardman 18 years ago as a Pixilation artist playing the body of the cult Aardman character “Angry Kid”. He subsequently spent 10 years in Aardman’s commercial department as a Director, Producer and 1st Assistant Director. His work outside of Aardman includes international award-winning films for the Arts Council, Channel 4 and BBC. His first feature film, 8 Minutes Idle was released in 2014 for BFI, BBC Films, Matador and Arthur Cox.

The Life Sized Zoetrope (2008) made for Channel 4, Arts Council UK and Animate was nominated for eight awards at the British Animation Awards and won the Grand Prix at the London International Animation Festival and the Tampere Film Festival. It subsequently gained distribution deals across the world and is regularly included in compilations, books and articles sighting key films in the history of alternation short animation.

Ronan McCabe is the CEO of Animation Ireland, the trade association for the island of Ireland’s leading animation studios. He has more than 25 years of experience in the media industry and has a proven track record in the development and commercialisation of television and animation properties in Ireland, Britain, Europe and the USA.

He is the former managing director of Double Z Enterprises, an award winning production company that produced shows for RTE, TV3, Channel 4, BBC, ITV, MTV and Starz.

During his career he has worked with many companies on projects covering financing, negotiating of rights, formats, licensing/merchandising and co-production deals with broadcasters, promoters, music labels, licensees, advertisers and distributors.

Throughout his career Ronan has built strong relationships with key industry stakeholders both domestically and internationally. He regularly attends and presents at markets, festivals and industry gatherings at home and abroad.

Ronan is a mentor through Enterprise Ireland, Screen Ireland Skills Development and Local Enterprise Offices. He has devised and delivered courses for Animation Skillnet and has participated in High Potential Start Up and Commercialisation funding panels for industry stakeholders.

Darragh O’Connell

Brown Bag Films

Darragh O’Connell co-founded Brown Bag Films with Cathal Gaffney in 1994. Darragh produced the short film Give Up Yer Aul Sins, which was nominated for an Oscar® at the 74th Academy Awards® in 2002. He subsequently directed the TV series which went on to become one of the best-selling Irish DVD releases of all time. In 2010, Darragh was nominated for a second Academy Award® as producer of the short film Granny O’Grimm’s Sleeping Beauty and was invited to join the Academy for Motion Pictures, Arts & Sciences.

Darragh’s director screen credits also include the TV series I’m An Animal (RTE), Olivia (Nickelodeon) and Octonauts (BBC) and is currently directing a ( soon to be announced) pre-school show for Netflix. Darragh is currently Group Creative Director at Brown Bag Films and 9 Story Media Group and is responsible for the group’s creative content.

Stuart Forrest

CEO Triggerfish

Stuart Forrest is the CEO of Triggerfish, an animation studio based out of Galway and Cape Town, South Africa. Triggerfish has produced 2 TV series, 3 feature films, 6 half hour TV specials, and 15 short films for partners, including Disney+, Netflix, BBC One, Hasbro/eOne, Nickelodeon and Sony. Their work has won multiple BAFTAs, an International Emmy, and earned an Oscar nomination.

Stuart is a leader in developing the animation industry - establishing the Triggerfish Academy, which is breaking ground in training animators and artists, and the Triggerfish Foundation, which seeks to develop the animation industry in Africa.

Deirdre Barry

Programme Director, National Talent Academy for Animation

Deirdre Barry is Programme Director of the National Talent Academy for Animation, a new initiative by Screen Ireland, managed by Animation Ireland, providing support and training opportunities to Irish-based creative talent. Deirdre has been in the industry for over 25 years. She began her career in Los Angeles and has been working in Ireland since 2001, where she has produced numerous shows including the award-winning animated series Sir Mouse and the Warner Bros’ Flintstones spinoff Yabba Dabba Dinosaurs as CEO of animation studio Salty Dog Pictures.

Paul O’Flanagan

Boulder Media

Paul O’Flanagan is an award-winning director and one of the founding fathers of Boulder Media, having joined as its first animator in 2000.

In the years since, Paul has acted as animation director and director for many high-profile shows such as ‘Fosters Home for Imaginary Friends’, ‘The Amazing World of Gumball’, ‘Danger Mouse’ and ‘My Little Pony’ for broadcasters such as Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon, BBC and Disney. Paul has recently directed 20 episodes of ‘Transformers:Botbots’ which debuted on Netflix last year.

Paul has made several short films throughout the years. His most recent, ‘Memento Mori’ has bowed in over sixty festivals around the globe and was long listed for the Oscar’s ‘best animated short’.

Last year, Paul was promoted to serve as one of the Creative Directors in Boulder Media.

Mark Cumberton

Producer/ COO of JAM Media

Mark is currently Series Producer for the second season of ‘Nova Jones’ - 20 X 24 minutes for CBBC and is also producing a 2D animation feature film entitled ‘A Greyhound of a girl’. He recently completed season 01 of ‘Nova Jones’ - 10 X 24 minutes for CBBC. Other Producer credits include ‘Jessy and Nessy’ - 40 X 11 minutes for Amazon Studios, Becca’s Bunch - 52 x 11 minutes for Nickelodeon US & UK as Series Producer. He also Produced ‘Little Roy’ – 52 x 14 minutes for CBeebies & CBBC and has produced, Zig & Zag, Zogcasts and Roy series 3 & 4. He was also the Producer on the original Roy 01-04 series, Baby Jake, PICME and Tilly and Friends and Funky Fables. Roy has won numerous international awards including BAFTA, RTS and Kidscreen. Mark has produced several short films, most notably the Irish Film Board funded, Badly Drawn Roy and Escape.

Prior to co-founding JAM Media, Mark worked with Walt Disney Feature animation on ‘The Hunchback of Notre Dame’ and ‘Hercules’ in Paris and Los Angeles and also with Don Bluth Studios in Ireland as a Special Effects Animator.

Denis Do Keynote

Denis Do was born in 1985. He grew up and studied in Paris. Graduated from Gobelins, l’école de l’image in 2009, his graduation movie “The Ribbon”, co-directed with other classmates, confirmed his desire to make films. He has directed “Funan”, his first feature film, awarded by the Crystal of best feature film in 2018 at The Annecy Animation Festival. His work is influenced and inspired by his three cultures, chinese, khmer and french. Deeply attached with themes such as identities and memories, he is also involved in questioning the representations of minorities through animation. Denis is working on the post-production of his next film “The Forest of Miss Tang”, 40mins length. And also on the development of his next feature “Sorya”.

Emmet O’Neill

CEO, Story Toys

Emmet O’Neill is the CEO of StoryToys - A multi-award winning developer and publisher of apps and games for children. Emmet has produced apps with many leading children’s brands including The LEGO Group, The Walt Disney Company, Marvel Entertainment, Penguin Random House, Warner/DC and Sesame Workshop.

With a career in digital product design that spans over 25 years, Emmet has worked across a broad spectrum of industries including publishing, advertising and film /TV. He specialises in leading highly creative teams and content oriented businesses.

Emmet has led StoryToys through a period of exceptional growth and the successful acquisition by the games label Team17 PLC in 2021.

Nicky Gogan

Piranha Bar

Nicky Gogan has had a highly prolific career across many roles in the creative industries and cultural innovation over the past 25 years. In 1999 she founded the Darklight festival and in 2008 she established Still Films where she has produced and directed a large slate of award-winning documentaries, animations and artist films. Nicky is currently executive producer and head of R&D at Piranha Bar across a slate of animation and hybrid series, where she combines her ongoing passion for storytelling and innovation in creative technology. In this regard the studio has developed a bespoke real-time animation pipeline AniMotion using Epic Games Unreal Engine technology and performance capture.

Tom Sargent

Founder and CEO Expensive JPEG

Tom is a web3 Marketer and Growth Hacker. He’s been helping both brands and creators launch their own web3 ideas and experiences since 2019, mostly focusing on blockchain gaming and the Metaverse he brings a down-to-earth and open-minded perspective on these huge trends. He has been a data-driven marketer for the last eight years in a variety of tech industries, from AI systems that are solving some of the world’s biggest problems to drone delivery systems during Covid, and all the way to using lasers to clean up space debris.

Nancy Xu

Epic Games, Unreal Engine

Nancy Xu is a virtual production producer at Epic’s London Innovation Lab, with a focus on empowering filmmakers to tell their stories using real time technology. Nancy also produced on shows such as The Lion King, Jungle Book and Alien Covenant.

Gianfranco Bianchi

Chief Creative Officer of Xavatar

Gianfranco is the creator of the original Xavatar avatars, the artistic look and feel of the company and The Sync Report also serving as co-creator of the show.

He is a multi-dimensional visual artist, learning and embracing all the ways one can tell a story visually. He started his career creating still architectural visualisations that became animations, visual effects for films, music videos and short films. At the same time his illustrations became comic books and concept art pieces who then turned into motion graphics and frame by frame animations. He understood that as a visual artist everything can become an important single art piece or one of many styles and techniques that can become something entirely new.

Head of Children’s & Young People’s Content RTÉ, Ireland

Suzanne Kelly has headed up the RTÉ Children’s division since 2018. She’s responsible for all content created and commissioned across video, audio and digital platforms, for RTÉjr, 0 – 6 channel and RTÉ Kids, 7 – 12’s platform. As a PSM, the RTÉ kids’ team is dedicated to delivering top quality content for our audience and ensuring that they are represented and given a voice.

Suzanne works hand in hand with both the Irish Live action and animation sectors to deliver stand out moments for TV audio and online, recent commissions include; The Imagination Machine, an e-sports blockbuster, Ireland’s Future is MINE, Alva’s World, Fia’s Fairies, Ray of Sunshine and a wonderful new podcast series, The Neighbourhood, narrated by Oscar nominee, Ciaran Hinds.

Suzanne is also keen to grow RTÉ’s slate for teens and is actively searching out content for this audience. Prior to joining RTÉ, Suzanne worked as an independent producer/director, creating & developing programme formats, script writing and producing & directing in studio and on location for linear and digital platforms.

For the last twenty five years, Jens Opatz has been a part of the international animation business. After working as a camera assistant when he was still a teenager, he did an internship at a company called 181 productions in New York, where he worked as a storyboard artist. After founding his own animation company in Frankfurt specialized in classic stop-motion, he studied at the prestigious Animation Institute in Stuttgart. He graduated in 2002 and first became a head-writer for a German crime series before becoming co-producer and commissioning editor of KiKA- Der Kinderkanal. Between 2006 and 2020, he worked as a freelance commissioning editor and writer for many international animation projects. Since 2021, he is in charge of all animation co-productions at WDR.

Sarah Muller

Head of Commissioning & Acquisitions 7-12 BBC

Recently appointed as Head of Commissioning & Acquisitions 7-12, Sarah Muller rejoined BBC Children’s in 2019 as Head of Acquisitions and Animation. Previously she was Vice President of Children’s and Youth Programming at Sony Pictures Television with responsibility for the Pop and Sony Music Channels and before that, Sarah was Head of Children’s at Channel 5 where she was responsible for the Milkshake! brand. She was also Creative Director, Scripted, Animation and Co-Productions for CBBC In-House, a role that grew from her work as Head of CBBC Acquisitions, Animation and Drama Development. Passionate about all Kids’ content, but especially Drama and Animation, commissioned projects include “Danger Mouse”, “Strange Hill High”, “Creeped Out”, “Wolfblood”, “The Dumping Ground”, “The Worst Witch”, “Katie” and “Just William”

Prior to joining BBC Children’s, she was Managing Director of Elephant Productions. As a producer, credits include 6 series of the multi-award winning, ratings success “Grizzly Tales For Gruesome Kids”(CITV).

Chris Rose

Vice President of Production and Development, Paramount Global Kids & Family

Chris Rose is Vice President of International Production and Development for Paramount’ Global Kids & Family Group. Rose heads up the internal and external animation development and production teams for Paramount’ Kids & Family brands outside of the U.S.

With more than 20 years of experience in broadcasting, development and production, Rose has a wealth of knowledge and is an expert in the in “hit making” process for kids content. Since joining Nickelodeon in 2018, Rose has secured several key projects and talent, and manages the brand’s global animated shorts program, which spawned Sharkdog, Nickelodeon’s first internationally originated global animated series for Netflix, which premiered worldwide in 2021 and was renewed for a second season.

Rose is responsible for growing the global kids’ and family content pipeline by leading the animation and live action development and production teams. Rose spearheads production development initiatives across the UK and aligns closely with production and development teams across Latin America, Europe, the Middle East, Asia, Africa and Israel.

Rose previously ran the development and production arm of London’s Beano Studios (Dennis and Gnasher: Unleashed, So Beano!) and served as TV Commissioning Editor for ABC ME and ABC KIDS, ABC Australia’s children’s channels. Other roles include VP of Programming and Development at HIT Entertainment and Content and Acquisitions Manager for CBeebies. His kids’ TV credits include The Deep, Little Lunch, and Mike the Knight.

Orion Ross Vice President, Animation

The Walt Disney Company EMEA

Orion and his London-based team develop and produce animated content originated in Europe and Africa, working with independent studios and producers across the region, for Disney’s global platforms including Disney+, Disney Junior and Disney Channel. Prior to joining Disney’s London team, Orion lived in Hong Kong and worked as a producer for Star TV before his appointment as Creative Director for Cartoon Network’s Asia Pacific channels. He grew up in Colorado and graduated from Harvard University.

Locksmith Animation

Shelley Page is Key Talent and Artist Liaison at Locksmith Animation in London. Following ‘Rons’ Gone Wrong’ (2021), Locksmith is currently in production on the studio’s second feature ‘That Christmas’.

Shelley’s career in animation began in 1982 when she joined the London studio of legendary animation director Richard Williams - which led to a position as head of backgrounds on the Disney film ‘Who Framed Roger Rabbit?’ (1988). In early 1995 she was one of the first team of artists recruited to join DreamWorks Animation as co-head of Artist Development. During her 23 years with DreamWorks Animation, Shelley worked in many areas of feature animation production and talent development. She also participated in setting up DreamWorks Animation teams in India and China. She has also worked with other leading animation studios around the world - including Aardman.

Her 36+ feature film credits include: ‘Who Framed Roger Rabbit?’, ‘‘Balto’, The Prince Of Egypt’, ‘Shrek’, ‘Madagascar’, ‘Kung Fu Panda’ and ‘How to Train Your Dragon’. Shelley joined Locksmith Animation in 2019.

Throughout her career, Shelley has maintained a strong interest in student animation and serves as a Visiting Professor and graduation jury member at many leading animation schools in the UK and around the world.

Eleanor Coleman

Indie Sales, Producer

Eleanor Coleman is a Paris based American producer who has worked for over 25 years in the European animation community. Her career began with a 15-year tenure at TF1 in France as head of in-house production and business development across all platforms for children.

Since leaving TF1, Eleanor works independently in animated feature film acquisitions and development with Indie Sales, where she has built an innovative prestigious lineup including the Oscar nominated film My Life as A Zucchini by Claude Barras. Her cartoon television work concentrates on international business development and pre-sales for the award-winning studio, Blue Spirit in France and Canada. Her clients at Blue Spirit include Netflix Adult Animation, WBA, Marvel CU, many major European broadcasters, as well as streaming services. Eleanor is a founding member and co-vice president of the French association Les Femmes s’Aiment, part of the global Women in Animation network dedicated to gender parity and conscious content production.

She recently produced Iranian director Reza Riahi’s short film The Musician which premiered in Toronto at TIFF, won Best Film at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2021 and was shortlisted for Oscars. The film was sold to Viacom for exclusive broadcaster Paramount+.

Paul Young

Cartoon Saloon

Paul is a co-founder of Cartoon Saloon, an IFTA winner and Oscar ®, Emmy and Bafta nominee. He Produced animated features, My Father’s Dragon, WolfWalkers, The Secret of Kells, Song of the Sea & The Breadwinner as well as a number of award-winning TV series including Puffin Rock, Dorg Van Dango & Viking Skool

Paul is also an Award-winning Cartoonist and illustrator.

Producer

Sébastien Onomo is a French producer who has been working in the film and audiovisual industry for over ten years. A graduate of the Institut National de l’Audiovisuel (INA), he joined the production company Les Films d’ici (Serge Lalou) in 2010 as an associate producer.

In 2015, he founded Special Touch Studios with Olivier Laouchez and deployed the brand with the creation of Creative Touch Studios, located in the Hauts de France in Valenciennes.

He has produced numerous films for television (Bois d’Ebène by Moussa Touré, Léon Blum haï and adoré by Julia Bracher and Hugo Hayat) but also Le Gang des Antillais by Jean-Claude Barny and Funan, the animated film by Denis Do the winner of the Cristal Award at the Annecy Festival in 2018.

In parallel to his activity as a producer, he brings his expertise to various university programs (Paris 3, Paris 7) and to major schools such as INA, FEMIS and Gobelins. He is a permanent member of various commissions of the CNC and regional state organisations that support creation.

In 2017, he was appointed co-president with Aïssa Maïga for the French-speaking group of Unifrance and has just been elected for the second time member of the board of the Union of Independent Producers (SPI) of the animation college.

Sébastien Onomo Michael Ryan

Director GFM Animation

Michael currently has a dual role; the first as Partner here at GFM Animation and the other as Chairman of IFTA (Independent Film & Television Alliance) where he is serving an unprecedented fourth term. After many years of working parallel to one another, Michael and Guy partnered in 2000 and together have financed, sold and produced over 250 films including The Wild Geese, The English Patient, The General, What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, The Osterman Weekend, the Highlander series and Planet 51.

Michael is a keen singer with an amazing voice and can often be seen at industry events fronting the popular band ‘The Indies’.

JP Vine Keynote

JP is Director of the award winning, first feature from Locksmith Animation, Ron’s Gone Wrong alongside Sarah Smith and co-director Octavio Rodriguez.

With a foundation in theatre design, JP started at Aardman in 2005, where he became a director on an Emmy and BAFTA award-winning series Shaun The Sheep. After Aardman, JP went on to Pixar where his storyboarding work was featured in the critically acclaimed Inside Out and The Good Dinosaur.

JP is currently leading the Locksmith Animation development team in several projects.

Alan is the CCO Chief Creative Officer & Co-founder of JAM Media and oversees the creative content conceived, animated and produced by the company.

Alan is currently Executive Producer for ‘Nova Jones’ series 2 & 3 – 20 X 24 minutes for CBBC. Other recent credits include Executive Producer on ‘Jessy & Nessy’ – 40 x 11 for Amazon Studios and Becca’s Bunch – 52 x 11 minutes for Nickelodeon US & UK.

He has also directed the BAFTA® award winning series ‘Roy’ series 01 - 04 for CBBC. Based in London, Courtney Arumugam is responsible for the creative development of LEGO content, as part of the company’s hugely successful global slate. Before joining LEGO, Courtney served as Vice President at Gaumont, overseeing development for their Animation & Family division. Prior to this, Courtney has held positions in development, production and commissioning, for companies including Mattel, Fremantle, Channel 4 and the BBC.

Kyle Jenkins

Kyle Jenkins is the Programme and Acquisitions Manager at Milkshake! Channel 5 and manages the content pipeline from pitch submission to programme delivery, including the development & production of commissions, acquisitions and short form as a Commissioning Executive. Kyle is currently the working across a wide slate of exciting new programmes as Executive Producer for the preschool audience including Pip & Posy, Tweedy & Fluff, Odo, Milo, Pop Paper City, Mixmups and Meet The Experts. Kyle has worked in children’s TV for over 10 years, starting in production and development at Nickelodeon, before moving into production management and producing shows including Tickety Toc and Floogals for Nickelodeon, Milkshake!, Universal Kids at Zodiak Kids Studios and Nevision Studios 1 Productions. Kyle also produces conference sessions for the Children’s Media Conference.

Tara Sorensen

Tara Sorensen is Apple’s Head of Children’s Programming, Worldwide Video. A respected children’s programming executive, Sorensen oversees the development and production of original live-action and animated children’s series globally.

Previously, Sorensen served as Head of Kids Programming for Amazon Studios, where she launched the division and shepherded Emmy Award-winning series, including Tumble Leaf, Emmy-nominated Annedroids, WGA Award and Humanitas Prize winner Gortimer Gibbon’s Life on Normal Street, Humanitas, DGA and NAACP Image Award winning special An American Girl Story - Melody 1963: Love Has to Win, and Emmy-nominated Just Add Magic amongst others.

Prior to that, Sorensen was Vice President, Kids Programming for National Geographic. While there, she oversaw the Emmy Award-winning series Toot & Puddle for Nickelodeon. Previously, she was Vice President, Kids Programming for Sony Pictures Family Entertainment and shepherded the development of Dragon Tales; Jackie Chan Adventures, Men in Black, Stuart Little and the Emmy Award-winning Harold and the Purple Crayon. Sorensen began her career at Nelvana spearheading development for hit series Rolie Polie Olie. Sorensen serves on the Los Angeles Advisory Council for Common Sense Media.

Eimear O’Mahony

Eimear O’Mahony has been in RTÉ for 20 years. Over that time she has worked in Sport, Current Affairs, Irish Language and Entertainment. She has produced documentaries, Winning Streak, Up for The Match, Electric Picnic and the Late Late Toy Show in 2018. She joined Young People’s Programmes in 2019 as an Executive Producer.

Thom Chapman

An international Media Executive with 20+ years of experience in financing, production, and distribution for feature films and series, Thom has worked on top brands such as Peanuts, PAW Patrol, and Bakugan. Mr. Chapman leads Spin Master Entertainment’s sales and distribution efforts overseeing the global distribution and monetization strategy/execution on all of Spin Master’s content properties. He currently presents the hugely successful Tommy Tiernan Show on RTE, but over the years you may have spotted this Ed Sheeranlookalike in shows such as ‘The Republic of Telly’, ‘The Fear’ and a stunning 4 minute appearance (2 of which he played dead) in BBC’s comedy-drama ‘Vexed’, presently streaming on Netflix.

Julie Jay is a comic who has taken the comedy world by storm in recent months and already has many impressive accolades under her belt, including winning the Forbidden Fruit Comedy Search 2017 and performing at all major festivals (Body and Soul, Alltogether Now, Electric Picnic, Vodafone). She has also supported the biggest names in comedy, including Neil Delamere, Ardal O’Hanlon, Alison Spittle, has been resident support act for Tommy Tiernan on his Paddy Crazy Horse Tour and has MCed the 2019 series of the Tommy Tiernan Show. Her latest show Oops, This is Toxic has enjoyed sold out shows at the Edinburgh Fringe, First Fortnight and beyond and will tour the country later this year.

One of the most exciting new voices on the Irish comedy scene, her on-stage warmth accompanied by a sizeable side dish of distinctly Irish self-deprecation. Wry wit, neurotic ponderings and clever joke-writing make her an act not to be missed.

Head of Commissioning & Acquisitions 7-12, Sarah Muller rejoined BBC Children’s in 2019 as Head of Acquisitions and Animation. Previously she was Vice President of Children’s and Youth Programming at Sony Pictures Television with responsibility for the Pop and Sony Music Channels and before that, Sarah was Head of Children’s at Channel 5 where she was responsible for the Milkshake! brand. She was also Creative Director, Scripted, Animation and Co-Productions for CBBC In-House, a role that grew from her work as Head of CBBC Acquisitions, Animation and Drama Development. Prior to joining BBC Children’s, she was Managing Director of Elephant Productions. As a producer, credits include 6 series of the multi-award winning, ratings success “Grizzly Tales For Gruesome Kids”(CITV).

Suzanne Kelly

Suzanne Kelly, recently appointed Head of Children’s and Young People’s content RTÉ, is responsible for overseeing the commissioning and development of animation, live action & audio content across RTÉjr and TRTÉ for TV, Radio & Online.

Suzanne has over 20 years experience working as a Producer/Director in the Irish audio visual sector. She has exclusively been creating children’s content since 2007 and wouldn’t and couldn’t do anything else. One of the achievements that she is most proud of is briefly holding the Guinness World Record for the most amount of people gunged in three minutes.

Mark Cumberton

Mark is currently Series Producer for ‘Nova Jones’ - 10 X 24 minutes for CBBC and recently completed, ‘Jessy and Nessy’ - 40 X 11 minutes for Amazon Studios. He was also the Series Producer for, ‘Becca’s Bunch’ - 52 x 11 minutes for Nickelodeon US & UK + ‘Little Roy’ – 52 x 14 minutes for CBeebies & CBBC and has produced, Zig & Zag, Zogcasts and Roy series 3 & 4. He was also the Producer on the original Roy 01-04 series, Baby Jake, PICME and the Media funded, Tilly and Friends and Funky Fables. Roy has won numerous international awards including BAFTA, RTS and Kidscreen. Mark has produced several short films, most notably the Irish Film Board funded, Badly Drawn Roy and Escape.

Mark continues as COO Chief Operations Officer & Co-founder of JAM Media since its inception in 2002. His position makes him responsible for the smooth running of all operations and productions by the company, ensuring that all productions are consistent with the world class high standard synonymous with JAM. Prior to co-founding JAM Media, Mark worked with Walt Disney Feature animation on ‘The Hunchback of Notre Dame’ and ‘Hercules’ in Paris and Los Angeles and also with Don Bluth Studios in Ireland as a Special Effects Animator.

Orion and his team develop and produce animated content originated in Europe and Africa, working with independent studios and producers across the region, for Disney’s global platforms including Disney Junior, Disney Channel and Disney+.

Recent and upcoming projects include the Disney+ Originals Chip ’n’ Dale: Park Life and the African sci-fi anthology Kizazi Moto: Generation Fire; pre-school series PJ Masks, Gigantosaurus and Kiya & The Kimoja Heroes; original children’s series Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir, 101 Dalmatian Street, The Unstoppable Yellow Yeti, Viking Skool, Counterfeit Cat, Furiki Wheels and Space Chickens in Space; and the BAFTA-winning Disney XDFC shorts program.

Alan is the CCO Chief Creative Officer & Co-founder of JAM Media and oversees the creative content conceived, animated and produced by the company.

Paul O’Flanagan is an award-winning director and one of the founding fathers of Boulder Media, having joined as its first animator in 2000.

In the years since, Paul has acted as animation director and director for many high-profile shows such as ‘Fosters Home for Imaginary Friends’, ‘The Amazing World of Gumball’, ‘Danger Mouse’ and My Little Pony for broadcasters such as Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon, BBC and Disney. Paul has recently directed 20 episodes of ‘Transformers:Botbots’ which debuted on Netflix last year.

Last year, Paul was promoted to serve as one of the Creative Directors in Boulder Media.

Mark Simon Hewis first joined Aardman 18 years as a Pixilation artist playing the body of the cult Aardman character “Angry Kid”. He subsequently spent 10 years in Aardman’s commercial department as a Director, Producer and 1st Assistant Director. His work outside of Aardman includes international award-winning films for the Arts Council, Channel 4 and BBC. His first feature film, 8 Minutes Idle was released in 2014 for BFI, BBC Films, Matador and Arthur Cox.

Andy Wyatt

For over 30 years, Andy has worked in the UK and Ireland as animator, writer, director, producer and educator. Starting his career as assistant to the late John Halas where he learned his craft as animator he went on to work with studios such as Disney, Aardman, Brown Bag and Honeycomb Animation, where he created the cult series Beastly Behaviour. Many of the productions Andy has directed have received awards including three BAFTA nominations.

In addition to his commercial animation experience, Andy has worked in Higher Education setting up the Animation Programmes at Falmouth and Manchester Schools of Art.

Andy is currently a channel partner for Toon Boom Animation in UK/Ireland.

Mark Gordon

Mark Gordon is a multi award-winning composer who runs the music production company Score Draw Music, which provides original music and songs to a huge range of global clients across children’s media. Current work spans content for Nickelodeon Jr, PBS Kids, Disney Jr, Amazon, Netflix, BBC, Channel 5, Milkshake and Sky. Outside of the company, Mark is a member of the Ivors Academy Media Committee Board, sits on the Screen Composers Guild of Ireland board, and also programmes Output Belfast - Ireland’s largest music conference.

Mike Buckland

Director of Production

Mike Buckland is the Director of Production at Triggerfish Animation. He’s produced award-winning film and television titles including the animated feature films Adventures in Zambezia, Khumba and Seal Team (Netflix).

Mike co-produced the Oscar-nominated Roald Dahl’s Revolting Rhymes, as well as several Emmy and BAFTAwinning TV specials produced for the BBC by Magic Light Pictures, including Stick Man, The Highway Rat, Zog and The Snail and the Whale.

Current projects include Aau’s Song, a short film for Lucasfilm’s Star Wars Visions Season 2 on Disney+; Mama K’s Team 4 for Netflix and Kizazi Moto: Generation Fire, an anthology of African sci-fi short films. All are scheduled for release this year.

Borja Espana Guillot

Art Director / Development Creative

Borja has been the Art Director and Development Creative with JAM Media for over 13 years and is responsible for overseeing many aspects of the creative process: from pre-production conceptual ideas to productionready final designs. He studied Fine Arts in Valencia, Athens and Australia, and worked on the feature El Cid, before moving to Ireland in 2004. Borja initially began working with JAM Media as an animator on the children’s series PICME before settling into his current senior role. In 2011, Borja worked closely with the award-winning children’s book artist, Polly Dunbar, to adapt her book series, Tilly and Friends, into an animation series commissioned by CBeebies.

Murakami Award

Jimmy Murakami, 1933-2014, was one of the founding fathers of Irish animation. He was a key figure in the establishment of the thriving Irish animation industry that we know today.

In 1965 he launched his own company, Murakami-Wolf Productions, with business partner Fred Wolf. Murakami settled permanently in Ireland while working on Roger Corman’s, ‘The Red Baron’ in 1971. His work in the 1986 feature, ‘When the Wind Blows’ produced some of the animator’s most acclaimed work with ‘The Snowman’ remaining an enduring children’s favourite to this day. Murakami Films opened in Dublin in 1989, with the studio producing popular television series such as ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’. Cathal Gaffney of Brown Bag Films, called Murakami “a founding father of Irish Animation”.

At Dingle International Film Festival/Animation Dingle 2013, Jimmy Murakami, received the inaugural Murakami Award for his lifetime achievement in Animation. Of the event, he said: “I have been to hundreds of film festivals, all over the globe, for what seems to be the last hundred years, and in my opinion the Dingle Film Festival is the best among them all”.

Steve Woods

Steve Woods works in animation, documentaries and dance films. In 1989 he helped set up the Galway Film Fleadh. He lectures at the National Film School at Dun Laoghaire, where he teaches experimental animation. He also occasionally writes and talks on film and animation and curates for film festivals.

Steve’s company is Cel’ Division. He specialises in short films but also is known for his installations and directing workshops. As well as producing his own work people approach him from time to time with an animated project which other producers might consider ‘left of field.’

In our feedback from animation companies in Ireland, we were told that their single biggest issue is that of finding and employing talent. In response, Animation Dingle is hosting a vibrant recruitment hub where companies can meet upcoming talent. Our Studio Fair Day will take place at the heart of the Festival in the Conference Room of the Dingle Skellig Hotel.

Doubling up as a place to sit and grab a coffee, this area will be a space to hang out as well as a casual space to meet studios. Pop in, hang around, have a chat…sit down in one of the Studio Zones to see what they are looking for…

Ireland’s major animation studios, as well as Animation Ireland and The National Animation Academy will each have their own Zone.

An exhibition of short digital games from BCFE students. Explore a range of diverse and creative games, from these gaming students. Each game will be presented in a unique way, with something for everyone to discover and enjoy. Drop by to play and to learn more about the games and their creators.

Turning cardboard and plastic into pixelsMaking apps that children love

Emmet takes us through the process of bringing characters from books, toys and animated content to life in interactive apps. He will discuss translating the beloved children’s book The Very Hungry Caterpillar to the interactive screen, highlighting the challenges of creating an experience that stays true to the original content while also making it engaging for children. Emmet will also walk through the process of animating LEGO bricks in their DUPLO apps and making inanimate toys feel alive in the hands of a child.

Emmet speaks candidly about lessons learned along the way that are applicable to translating any content from one medium to another, or to anyone working with licensed characters. It may EVEN be worth shaking off your hangover on a Saturday morning to attend.

After spending 5 years in the audiovisual industry as a special effects artist specialised in prosthetics for cinema and theatre, Cécile studied and worked in the field of history of art. From 1989 to 1995 she was a lecturer in Cultural History and associate researcher. She taught at La Sorbonne and Science Po, Paris. From 1995 she taught as a lecturer in French and European Art and Cultural History at the University of St Andrews in Scotland and then for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in London. She has been the Head of International Relations at Gobelins since 2012, where she is in charge of the International Programmes: Summer Schools and Master of Arts in Character Animation.

Mikai Geronimo is an Irish-Filipino animation filmmaker. She graduated from The National Film School at IADT in 2020. Her graduation film ‘Fall of the Ibis King’ has received a world premiere at the Venice International Film Festival, qualified for the 2023 Academy Awards and won the 2022 IFTA for Best Animation. She has also worked as a posing artist on Cartoon Saloon’s ‘My Father’s Dragon’ and as a director and animator at And Maps And Plans where she is currently developing a limited series.

Her most recent project is supervising production on a prime-time animated series called “Grimsburg”. Flix is based on a children’s book by one of the 20th Century’s most enigmatic and captivating children’s book authors and artists, Tomi Ungerer. The series is a comedy adventure about the only young dog (Flix) growing up in Cat Town.

The world can be baffling as well as exciting when you are a kid, but it’s even weirder if you are the sole dog in a town full of cats. Flix lives with his cat mum, dad and sister in a place that seems in every way like it wasn’t designed for himbecause it literally wasn’t. The claw posts at school are of no use to him, and the pink mice they consider a delicacy seem especially gross. But Flix is an outgoing dog who is willing to try anything, even if it means pretending he likes sashimi and enjoys watching laser pointers. Together with his two best cat friends and fellow misfits, Munchkin and Tabi, he’s ready to take on the world and seek out adventure. The truth is he is just as much puss as pug - it’s a dog’s life in a cat’s world and Flix is taking it all in his stride.

Aria is passionate about telling the story of Flix which is all about celebrating being different and not fitting in!She spent over a decade working closely with her father, artist Tomi Ungerer on numerous books,exhibitions,events as well as film and television projects. She and Tomi worked together to adapt Flix for the screen and develop the property as a series. As well as running Pictor Productions, she is also the Creative Lead and Curator of the Tom iUngerer Estate. Most recently she curated exhibitions for the Irish Cultural Centre in Paris and the Deichtorhalle in Hamburg and works regularly with publishers such as Phaidon, Diogenes and École des Loisirs.

Tom Gray

Tom is a veteran of the Irish animation industry. He started out as an animator over twenty years ago and has worked on projects for Nickelodeon, BBC, Warner Bros and Disney on numerous award winning shows including The Wonderful World of Gumball, Wander Over Yonder, Randy Cunningham 9th Grade Ninja and more recently BoyGirlDogCatMouseCheese. He has been Director / Animation Director on Circle Square, I’m a Fish and Yabba Dabba Dinosaurs.

BBC Ignite - Getting Your Development Off The Ground

BBC Ignite is a programme for co-development and support, assisting creatives and platforming new voices. BBC Ignite will be joined by some of the creators of supported projects to talk about why projects were selected, what that support looked like and thoughts on how to develop ideas into potential TV series that will appeal to commissioners.

Focus: Sam has been drawing these characters for many years. Ignite is helping to shape these characters into a TV show, both in terms of concept and also design evolution.

Creators – Tito Olawole & Hayley Sarian - ‘The Guardian Chronicles’ Focus: Tito & Hayley’s vision for authentic portrayal of British school children and how this is being enabled via focus groups and writers’ workshops with diverse voices. The desire for authenticity has extended to the design of the characters and the ambition to create a uniquely British version of Anime.

A masterclass which gives animators the opportunity to participate in a creative concept generation and sketching up-skilling programme. This is a tried and tested model which runs each year at Animation Dingle and is popular with both students and professional attendees. It allows for, and positively promotes, an informal setting to nurture the creative process and encourage dialogue between animators and students.

The overall objective is to learn and promote learning in a relaxed, fun, young person centred and symbiotic environment; for each student to push themselves, but to be open to new directions in their work.

But this year, when the wyrm emerged, they were not greeted with his carefree cartoonish smile and boundless gifts. Instead, the party was met with a creature in pain who began to drain this world of imagination, instead of gifting it.

What is the importance of creativity, what happens if you take it away?

Now on a journey to restore balance, this group of artists have been venturing through leylines, in order to solve mysteries of the past to save the very future they came from.

Creating Cinematics Renders using Unreal Engine 5

From 13:00 to 15:00 at St. James Church

In this workshop Darko will take you through the entire process of creating a CG Cinematics using Unreal Engine5. You will learn how to block out a scene using Unreal Engine’s modelling tools, establish a good composition using the cinematic camera, use custom models and model libraries to build the final scene, create cinematic lighting and add post process volume to control the final look and quality of your shot. Daniel Staines

Daniel Staines is a founding member and Creative Director of the XR Production Studio Algorithm. With a lifelong passion for experimental art and technology, Daniel became fascinated with the potential of using animation to augment the urban environment using projection mapping and a wide range of other technologies.

In recent years, Daniel has collaborated with the talented team at Algorithm to develop multiple awarding winning immersive projects for Europe’s top venues utilizing their patent-pending technology Orbit, a tool for immersive content creation. They are also developing their own experience called Landfall with the support of Animation Ireland and Screen Ireland.

My crazy story and how to make art your job

From 16:15 to 18:15 at St. James Church

Join me as I tell my story as a drugged out teen to the high school teachers who changed my life to the loss of my father that allowed me to go to art school completely free to landing my first job in NYC as a 20 year old to working 40 years as a professional artist. What you really need most is not just drawing advice or tips but rather how to think and move and grow as an artist. In this workshop I will certainly unpack my drawing techniques and how I design and build my characters, but I will leave a large amount of time available to talk about how to focus more on how I think as an artist and how to get that first job and become a team player. Also, how to succeed and grow as an artist and “get awesome!” I speak from 40 years of experience and tons of frustrations after working in storyboards for 35 years until 2015 when I started making and selling the art I really wanted to make. I look forward to talking about the things that move and motivate us. Plenty of Q and A time.

Thomas Fluharty

Thomas Fluharty’s work has been featured on covers for Mad magazine, Der Spiegel, and Time Magazine, who gave the cover to the National Portrait Gallery’s permanent collection. His work is notably featured for The Weekly Standard, for whom he has painted over 100 covers. Other clients have included People Magazine, Entertainment Weekly, Sports Illustrated, The Village Voice, CocaCola, and The New York Times and Disney. Fluharty’s work has received national recognition from the Society of Illustrators in New York and Los Angeles and Communication Arts Illustration annuals. He won a gold medal from Spectrum Fantastic Art for his depiction of Hillary Clinton. His work is also in the personal collections of Astronaut and Senator John Glenn, Pat Boone, Naomi Judd, the late movie director Robert Altman and Hellboys Mike Mignola.

Fluharty loves working with students all over the world teaching online with Schoolism.com where he teaches drawing and painting. He is happily married to the love of his life Kristi, has five amazing daughters, and one cute little cavalier spaniel named Biddy.

Animation Dingle is thrilled to present our short film selections for our 11th festival. This selection of 119 short films is presented across 11 screening programmes and is representative of 26 countries. Our programmes include a selection of animation work from Irish and International colleges as well as work from Professional individuals and Studios here in Ireland and around the world.

Each year we ask experts to view, score and submit recommendations on all submissions to the Festival. It is a long process and everyone is diligent, taking time with the work of all animators. We thank everyone who submitted entries to us.

From this process, films are invited to screen at the Festival and we begin to pull together our programmes. This takes time and consideration, but we feel each programme is curatedtoshowcaseeachsubmissiontoitsfullestandbestpotential.

From the entries, nominees are decided upon. And as we all know, at our Awards Night, winners are announced.

There’s no doubt about it, it is a long and careful process. We hope you enjoy our programmes; we thank all of those animators who submitted entries; we congratulate all who got through to be screened; and we wish all nominees the very best of luck.

Meet the Selectors

Maurice Galway

Animation Dingle co-founder and Festival Director, Maurice Galway has over 25 years of festival experience and he brings this each year to Animation Dingle. As a festival director, programmer, exhibitor and as an artist and filmmaker himself, Maurice has a deep understanding of what works, what needs to be seen, what audiences want to see, how to exhibit that and, ultimately, what is good!

Maurice has viewed thousands and thousands of hours worth of film and animation and is a highly experienced programmer. Maurice has programmed for Festivals, not only in Ireland, but also internationally.

Marty Boylan

Marty Boylan is a senior lecturer in the Creative Media Department of the Munster Technological University in Kerry. He is the course leader for the Animation, Visual Effects & Motion Design programme at the MTU. Marty specializes in Stopmotion, Character Modelling, 3D VFX, and Sensor Technology.

Josh O’Caoimh

Josh O’Caoimh is an Irish animation filmmaker. He graduated from The National Film School, IADT. His previous work has received a world premiere at the Venice International Film Festival, qualified for the 2023 Academy Awards and won the 2022 IFTA for Best Animation. Currently he is developing a limited series with Irish animation studio ‘and maps and plans’.

Jemma Shorten

Jemma is a graduate of Animation, Visual Effects, and Motion Design from MTU. She has been with Animation Dingle since 2020, where she has been involved in the organization of three successful online festivals. With her extensive experience as a film selector, Jemma is eagerly looking forward to this year’s festival, which will be held in person and in Dingle. Her work with Animation Dingle has given her an exciting glimpse into the potential of the Irish animation industry in the coming years. Jemma finds it rewarding to coordinate and organize festival logistics and is looking forward to contributing further to this dynamic field.

Mark Cumberton

Gwen Fagan

Gwen Fagan coordinates the Animation and Games degree at Ballyfermot College of Further Education, where she also teaches life drawing and studio-based practical courses with an emphasis on design process. Gwen’s involvement with Animation Dingle began in 2015 as part of an education panel and continued with the seminal ‘Dingle Stings’ project. She’s had the privilege of traveling with students to Cartoon Forum’s Spotlight on Ireland, and regularly attends animation and game-focused festivals, conferences, and workshops. She also adjudicates the US-based Campus Movie Fest. Gwen is currently working with her teaching team in consultation with industry to complete the 5-year Programme Revalidation.

Gwen earned her BFA (hons) from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago with a dual major in Sculpture/Technology and Art History.

Mikai Geronimo Martin Hanley

Martin Hanley ( a Tipperary native) has worked for 30 years + in the Irish and international Animation and Film industries. He started his career under the tutelage of Harry Hess and the great Jimmy T. Murakami in Blackrock. His first work experiences were with Emerald City productions and Sullivan Bluth Studios in their Layout departments where he worked on classics like Stephen Speilberg’s: Land before Time, All Dogs go to Heaven and Thumbelina etc. He’s also worked overseas in story, concept and development for MGM ( All Dogs 2) , Fox Animation (Anastasia) Panache Paris (Smog story dev) Disney ( Banshee) and as a development artist on ‘How to train your Dragon 2’ for Dreamworks Animation. He’s also been closely involved in visual media education in Ireland, on various courses ( in Animation dept., where the Dingle Stings were developed, Illustration, Ifx, Games development and VR) at BCFE /ISA, Ballyfermot where he continues to teach on their degree programme to this day.

At the beginning of the story a bird couple gives birth, but the child is different, so they kick it out of the nest. The baby falls into the swamp, a group of swans find the baby and decide to raise it as their own. They accept the child even if it’s different . The theme of the story is to accept everyone even if they are different.
