uncomplicated city life Shopping Tórshavn The chosen conference facility combined with the compact, yet charming and lively city of Tórshavn, definitely adds to an unforgettable experience, where it is easy to meet up and go out for a meal, do some shopping, or simply continue the networking.
The city centre provides a variety of local shops and smaller boutiques selling everything from mainstream fashion and hardware, to souvenirs, as well as contemporary Faroese arts and crafts.
In fact, if one has a particular interest in Faroese wool, the city centre may well be the hub of woollen goods, ranging from traditional jumpers and the national Faroese costume, to designer knitted sweaters from the high-fashion brand, Guðrun & Guðrun, also famous from the Danish TV series “Forbrydelsen” (The Killing). SMS - the largest shopping mall in the Faroe Islands - caters to general consumer needs regarding both goods and experience. Here, you can
find everything from popular clothing and shoes, to coffee and grocery shops. Other than the great selection of products in the various stores, SMS is seen as the place where people get together, also for lunch in the diverse eateries. Tax-free shopping is often available both at SMS and downtown, and the friendly service ensures that the shopping experience is a pleasant one.

unforgettable mansion of nordic elves The Nordic House ★★★★★ Built in a Nordic tradition, the Nordic House may well look as an enchanting hill of elves. Entering the house, you are stepping on Norwegian stones and can be seated in Finnish chairs. The wooden panels give an insight into the deep Swedish forests, the glass and steel constructions are Danish, and above it all hangs the Icelandic roof construction. Last, but not least, the grass on the roof is as Faroese as it is green.
This is the Nordic House of the Faroe Islands – indeed a versatile house that offers itself to a large variety of events.
Conference & Meeting facilities
History The Nordic House of the Faroe Islands is indeed a versatile building that lends itself as the leading cultural house and an international 5 star conference centre - the best in the Faroe Islands - making it possible to rent facilities for congresses, meetings and receptions. The Nordic House in the Faroe Islands opened on May 8th, 1983. The Nordic House’s official aim is “to support and promote Nordic and Faroese culture, locally and in the Nordic region”. However the building is likewise intended for use as a conference centre – a function that in 2008 was set to play a more prominent part with the add-on of a brand new conference section with top quality facilities, which highly reflected the growing demand coming from foreign as well as Faroese clients.

Food & Drink
Taste the Faroe Islands Excellent restaurants serve food based on local produce like fish, lamb, birds, seafood and herbs. Even gastro lovers will have a wide variety to choose from, and the famous restaurant KOKS, which is listed as one of Denmark’s 5 best restaurants, is a must try experience.
New Nordic Cuisine
Gourmet
New Nordic Cuisine In the restaurant KOKS, located on the top of Tórshavn at the Hotel Føroyar, you will be served New Nordic food (New Nordic Manifesto from 2004) with primarily local raw materials. The extraordinary quality of Faroese raw materials are of such superior quality and cannot be found elsewhere in the world. Nordic gourmet cookery is transforming Faroese old traditional cookery into new and exciting variants. The KOKS restaurant has stayed true to the ancient Faroese conversational techniques of “ræst” or in English rite. A preservation of e.g. fish and lamb that gives a very unique fermentation that just has to be tasted. The restaurant at the Hotel Føroyar is also part of the New Nordic Manifesto and serves banquet dinners at the hotel and in venues all over the Faroe Islands.

a land
undiscovered The Faroe Islands have a unique feeling of “real”. Nature is the only true ruler, and the humbling effect of nature so strong is evident in the islands’ culture. This is in many ways the opposite of Disney Land: In the Faroe Islands nothing is set up - everything is original. There is no pre-determined route, no fence to stand behind and no plastic signs telling you what to see and feel. Absorbing reality, as it is in the Faroe Islands, almost forces you to look within yourself to discover who YOU really are.

Dates of Public Holidays
Yearly Events In Tórshavn and around the islands, you can discover plenty of yearly happenings both of cultural and sports kind, depending on when you plan your meeting or conference.
Spring & Summer For instance, on the first Friday of June, the Cultural Night in Tórshavn attracts plenty of the local citizens as well as people from smaller towns and villages. Take a couple of hours off with your delegates and join this event, where the local shops, botanic gardens, as well as museums are open until midnight, and live music performances take place all around the city centre. You can also combine your stay with physical activity by joining the Tórshavn Marathon in June, or simply create your own tai-
lored sport event together with one of the DMCs all year round. If your meeting falls in the midst of summer, then take a break from the discussion table by plunging into the North Atlantic Ocean while listening to upcoming music at the G!Festival - a music festival situated at a beach in Gøta, Eysturoy. Or, experience the Faroese National holiday, Ólavsøka, on July 28-29 in Tórshavn. During these celebratory days, the Faroese dress in their national costume, cheer on traditional Faroese rowing boats, sing and dance to traditional chain dancing, as
well as pay visits to their families and close friends, where traditional Faroese food often is the highlight of the gatherings. During Ólavsøka, the Faroese are indeed among the most hospitable people in the world. Autumn & Winter Are you visiting during winter time, take a stroll through the Christmas decorations in the city centre of Tórshavn in December, whilst enjoying a warm cup of chocolate and watching people ice skating. Or sit down
at one of the cosy cafés and lavish on a freshly baked pancake with whipped cream and jam, while listening to Christmas carollers singing close by. In the start of January you can explore the Winter Lights – a one day event celebrating the beginning of longer and lighter days. The day is managed by VisitTórshavn together with the City Council, who embrace it with live music and other performance arts located in and around town.

Unique ideas
The artistic talent of the Faroese people will take you by surprise. The remoteness, smallness and lack of interaction has its merits, because sometimes ideas become more unique and original far away from the interference of established consensus. That is what happens with Faroese music and performance arts.
