At the foothills of Børgefjell National Park is Røyrvik municipality/ Raarvihken Tjïelte. This mountainous municipality started as Sámi settlements and is home to numerous cultural heritage sites. Røyrvik is part of the administrative area for Southern Sámi language and all public communication must be available in Norwegian and Southern Sámi. Røyrvik rural museum has its own Sámi section. Røyrvik is a national park municipality and has one of the most popular gateways to the wilderness of Børgefjell National Park. Fishing enthusiast from near and far often start their adventures at Namsvatnet lake before walking north or east in search of legendary trout fishing spots. If you prefer a taste of wilderness somewhat closer to civilisation you can try some of the marked walking trails or cycling routes near Røyrvik village. The “Børgefjellruta» cycling route is signposted around Limingen, Norway’s 8th largest lake. The Gamle Steinfjellvei gravel road between Namsskogan and Røyrvik is also a good cycling trip in impressive landscapes. In the winter there are ski trails and recreational tracks for snowmobiles in Røyrvik. HIKING SUGGESTION: Viewpoint Børgefjell, Vektarklumpen 638 moh. Viewpoint Børgefjell is located at the top of Vektarklumpen/Vuakteren-vaartoe. A hike to this viewpoint will give you a panoramic view of the wild landscape and mountains in the national park. Start in the centre of Røyrvik and follow the green signs towards Børgefjellsenteret. After a while the wide path divides into several trails. Follow the trail to the right all the way to the top. 5-6 km return walk, approx. 200 meters of elevation.
