Fall 2018

Arrrrr ye ready?

As autumn approaches, we start to think of warm layers, plush fabrics, and....pirates? Cosairs, buccaneers, privateers.... They all went in search of material wealth. Our Fall Catalog has, well,

a wealth of material!

Dana Marie #1045 “Tibetan Curves” - jacket

Loes HInse #1011 “Rochelle Top”

Fall Fashions Pirate Collection

Petite Plus #605 “Jeans”

As long as humans have traversed the open waters, marauders have sought to plunder, capture and kill unprotected voyagers - or so we believe. When we started researching pirates as a preHalloween theme, many names popped up in our general searches....men’s names. As a challenge, we decided to see what swashbuckling women sailed the seas and determine similarities among them. There is no question the women featured in this catalog were strong, defiant, intelligent, commanding, and most were also rash, stubborn, violent, impulsive. Although we did not find nearly as many female pirates as we did their male counterparts, these women were every bit as daring, ruthless and cunning. As Laurel Thatcher Ulrich famously wrote, “Well-behaved women seldom make history.”

It’s time to start sewing for Fall, and this collection is full of autumn fashion fabrics in the color of the deep blue sea. First we present Pirate Dapples, a stretch woven dull satin that’s weighty enough to be a sheath dress, jacket, stretch pants and straight skirt. There is something about the print that reminds us of rain, which flows right into our next fabric, Pirate Watercolor. The cool, deep blue of this rayon fabric’s mottled tones is absolutely perfect for any climate, any time of the year.

FitNice Systems “Maggie Marie Jacket” Loes HInse #1011 “Rochelle Top”

A perennial favorite in our stores and catalog is denim. Black and white threads converge to create a dark grey appearance. Try some of your distressing or embroidery techniques on Pirate Denim and make a fantastic jacket with metal zipper up the front. The first of three textured, variegated sweater knits, Pirate Mixoni beautifully mingles shades of blue with grey and black to create a crinkled, wavy, interesting fabric. This will look just as wonderful as a short sleeved crewneck top as it will a long sleeved v-neck sweater.

These last two fabrics look like they were milled for each other. Pirate Crinkle is a lightweight knit from Télio and we just love its Bohemian wrinkled appearance. This collection is all about knits, and we have blended textures, weights and colors for a marvelous mix-and-match wardrobe building ensemble. Begin with Teuta Coral Ponte di Roma double knit. If you normally prefer reds to corals, try this against your skin - the warmth of its tone might surprise you! And it’s just the right pop of color to enhance Teuta Blossoms. Feel the super soft face of this knit - it feels like a suede cloth. Coral and stone colored flowers accented by green leaves dance upon the rich black ground, making this a suptuous fabric choice for all year.

Teuta Collection Lets travel back 1200 years to the Adriatic Sea. King Agron of the Ardiaei tribe in the Western Balkans has just died, leaving behind a son too young to rule, and a widow, Queen Teuta of Illyria, who would rule as regent. The shrewd queen realized that neighboring tribes and countries would try a hostile takeover of her seaside people, so she encouraged the Ardiaei to strike first on the Adriatic and the Ionian, capturing and plundering everyone from Phoenicians to Romans. Trade routes between Greece and Italy were compromised. A contemporary Greek historian, Polybius, wrote that Teuta had a “woman’s natural shortness of view”, unable to see beyond the present situation, as she ordered the Illyrians to pillage indiscriminately and treat everyone as an enemy. When Rome sent ambassadors to reason, nay bargain, with this Pirate Queen, she ignored their diplomatic immunity, killing one and imprisoning the others. Rome struck back, and war raged for two years. Rome conquered Teuta, stripped her of power, and forced her people to pay an annual tribute. No historical written account exists of her aftermath, but a legend continues today in the city of Risen in Montenegro. Evading capture, Tueta fled from the Romans, heading to the Bay of Kotor in Risen. Alas, the bay was empty of boats, as these people had no seafaring tradition. Rather than submit to Rome, Teuta flung herself from the cliffs, cursing the people of Risen on her epic plummet.

Liverpool crepe knit has the stability of a ponte, but is lighter, more fluid and has the aded bonus of a crepe-like texture. Teuta Noir is elegant and substantial enough to be made into separates and dresses that can be dresed up or down with a quick change of jewelry and shoes. We never want to forget our clients who winter in warmer weather, so we also offer you Teuta Stone, the Liverpool crepe knit in a warm dark ivory. Our second textured sweater knit is Teuta Mixoni. See how effortlessly it combines the coral, black and stone? Sew a top from the sweater knit and wear it with slacks or a cardigan from either of the Liverpool knits.

Alfhild Collection We would be remiss not to offer up one Viking to our seafaring sisterhood. The fierce Scandinavian forces plundered ruthlessly from Asia to Greenland, Scotland to Sardinia for hundreds of years. The most famous female among these marauders was a ninth century Gothic Princess. As the story goes, King Sivard of Götaland had an incredibly beautiful daughter, the virgin Princess Alfhild. Wanting to keep her pure for a strategic political marriage, Alfhild was made to hide her beauty behind her robes, and was locked in a chamber guarded on the inside by vipers which she herself trained. Any man trying to capture her would be poisoned by the reptilian guards and then impaled on a stake. Prince Alf, son of King Sigar of Denmark, thought this was the most noble of challenges, and set off to win the maiden’s embrace. Alf did subdue the vipers, but instead of receiving the traditional sword as a token of betrothal, Alfhild hightailed it out of there.

Dressed as a man she commandeered a fleet of ships and rode the open seas looking for adventure and a place to plunder and pillage. Alf and his mates went after Alfhild, eventually finding her fleet off the coast of Finland. During a bloody battle on board, Alfhild’s helmet was knocked off. Alf recognized the reputed beauty and ordered the men to stop fighting. He embraced Alfhild, who shed her warrior garb and sailed back with Alf to marry and have children. We should note that Norse tradition passed stories down orally, and Nordic women were outspoken and had the right of refusal when it came to marriage. The tale of Alf and Alfhild was written centuries later by Christian scholars who scoffed at Alfhild defiling the traditional role of women, devoting “those hands to the lance which they should rather have applied to the loom,” so we are skeptical about this wholesome ending to her story.

FitNice Systems: “Jackie O Top” with bias trim and “Lady Legs” - knit pants

We received some exciting new ITY knit prints to our warehouse and had to add them to this catalog. ITY knits have great stretch and they drape well. Consider sewing these into any number of knit tops, surplice dress, A-line skirt, and even leggings. (Pssst...if you like the burnt sienna accent color in #13 & #15, check out #39 as a possible bottomweight solid.) Starting with the two fabrics on page 7, Alfhild Suiting is a rich purple stretch-woven gabardine from our Felix collection. It is perfect for all manner of career separates. We chose it specifically to be a solid base for our first knit print. Alfhild Alpha is a lightweight, ITY knit featuring a purple background and Asian inspired floral medallions. Accent colors in the piece include royal blue, burnt sienna, green, yellow, brass.

VF185-15 Alfhild Beta

Our next duo include Alfhild Aqua, one of our Sofie ponte di Roma double knits to pick up on the accent color in Alfhild Beta. This is the same print as #13, but with a black background and accent colors that include aqua, burnt sienna, green, yellow and honey.

Here is a lightweight ponte di Roma double knit in a stunning shade of blue we’ve named Alfhild Royal. Lighter than other pontes on the arket, this would be ideal for mock turtlenecks, heavy designer style T-shirts, knit dresses and skirts, and yoga style pants. The royal blue and yellow flowers of Alfhild Garden pop against the black base. Stitch up this ITY knit print into a garment that showcases its drape, then wear it with a cardie stitched from its solid match mate.

Clisson Collection In the midst of the Hundred Years War between England and France, a ferocious fleet of black ships with red flags terrorized the English Channel. French naval ships with treasures and food would fall prey to the “Black Fleet” and all but one of the sailors would be killed, the lone survivor being tasked with reporting the atrocities back to the king. At the helm of the flagship My Revenge stood Jeanne de Clisson, the Lioness of Brittany, on a personal crusade to avenge the beheading of her third husband, Olivier de Clisson. They had been quite the power couple when they married shortly after the annulment of her second marriage in 1330. Olivier was a wealthy Breton with many lands, a manor house and a castle, while Jeanne had inherited a tremendous amount of property herself after the death of her first husband, Geoffrey de Chateaubriand, whom she had married when she was 12. Olivier was captured by the English during the war, and secured his own release in a deal that traded his freedom for that of a powerful captive Englishman and a small sum of money. This was regarded as an act of treason by French noblemen such as Charles de Blois, and Olivier was beheaded without ample proof of guilt, his head placed on a pike. Jeanne swore to avenge his death. She sold property to raise money to commission the Black Fleet. Her forces attacked French garrisons at Touffou and a castle held by de Blois, leaving just one person alive at the end to take a message of terror back to de Blois and French King Phillip VI. Jeanne continued to attack seaside villages in Normandy, but she also used her ships to ferry supplies to English naval ships in the channel. My Revenge was destroyed at sea, and Jeanne with her two living sons from Olivier were set adrift for days, one son dying from exposure before British forces found them. Jeanne retired from piracy upon her fourth marriage in 1356 to Englishman Sir Walter Bentley, one of King Edward III’s military deputies during the war. The Lioness of Brittany died at home in the Castle of Hennebont in 1359, leaving behind an incredible legacy. Her son, Olivier, continued to fight for the English, and earned the moniker The Butcher for taking no prisoners in his blood feud against the French.

Silhouettes #2010 “Three-piece Yoga Skirt”

As the trees change colors, so shall our wardrobe options, and what better way to compliment the season than with this collection of mustard and plum beauties? Clisson Zigzag is a narrow sweater knit combining mustard, peach, grey and black. Since you will undoubtedly need a bit more yardage to sew up your tops, we made sure to negotiate for a great low price. There is so much stretch both ways you can stitch this with the pattern running vertically, horizontally, or sew Silhouette’s Sunny’s Top which pieces the knit together all higgledy-piggledy. Clisson Dijon is a substantial cotton moleskin from Robert Kauffman’s fashion division. It breaths, it stretches, it has a lovely soft suede-like face. Surely you will want to make a jacket and skirt, or a handsome man’s vest or sport coat (see #47 for this in rust). Like the refracted streams of light bouncing over the polar skies, the colors in Clisson Borealis enliven the fabric. Mustard, plum and ivory brighten up the midnight navy base on this super soft jersey knit. Whip up a simple top in no time, and create accents like neck and sleeve bindings, waist cinching ties, contrast sleeves or panels from Clisson Plum, a lightweight cotton jersey knit.

Create a modern cardie or funky knit vest from Sayyida Puffer, our steel blue quilted double knit. Its texture and hand really have a high end feel. You’ll want to wear this all fall as your go-to garment for a top layer.

Sayyida Collection

Spain, 1492, saw the culmination of the Reconquista (retaking of Moorish lands for the Catholic Spanish crown), enactment of the Spanish Inquisition, the fleeing of Arabs to northern Africa and Jews to new lands with explorers like Columbus. King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella had given an ultimatum to non-Catholics: convert or die. A little girl named Lalla Aicha fled her homeland of Grenada with her family. They settled in Morocco, across the Mediterranean Sea, establishing a city that would take in hundreds of Andalusian refugees. She was given the same education as her brothers under a noted Arabian theologian, becoming fluent in Arabic, Castilian Spanish and Portuguese. Married at age 14 to a family friend thirty years her senior, the couple worked to rebuild Tétouan, a Moroccan citystate that had been destroyed by the Castilians. Widowed in her midtwenties, she gained the title Sayyida al Hurrah, which indicated she was a free, independent noble Queen, ruling over Tétouan. She is the only Muslim woman to reign independently as queen. Fearing a hostile takeover by surrounding empires and dynasties, Sayyida al Hurrah built a flotilla of ships for her seaside city-state, mostly for

protection, but raid and plunder she did, building up Tétouan’s wealth, strength and reputation. She struck a deal with Redbeard, the notorious cosair of the Mediterranean, Ottoman admiral Hayreddin Barbarossa. Together they terrorized the sea, she in the west, he in the east, targeting Spanish and Portuguese shipping lanes. Most of what we know today about Sayyida comes from Spanish and Portuguese records, for she was a skilled diplomat and negotiator, commanding the respect of the men with whom she had to make deals. In 1541 she accepted the marriage proposal of Ahmed al-Watassi, the Sultan of Morocco, on the condition the marriage would take place in Tétouan, a great inconvenience to the huge entourage traveling with the Sultan It was the only time a Moroccan royal wedding took place outside the capital city of Fez. Her actions demonstrated she would not be a “kept” woman and that she was credible leader in her own right. The newlyweds continued to live separately after the marriage. Within two years her brother and son-in-law shifted their allegiance to Portugal, deposed Sayyida, and her weakened pirate army disbanded. She lived her remaining 20 years in one of her childhood castles.

When we recently viewed samples of knit prints at our warehouse, this one received the most attention and fondling from our staff. Sayyida Fresco blends steel blue, brown, rust and ivory in a mottle print that reminds us of an Italian painted wall. Don’t you just want to wrap yourself in its softness for the season? We sure do!

Bea in Customer Service made Loes Hinse’s Gore Skirt. She loves its easy assembly method - sew each gore to one side of each panel, then stitch all the panels together with nice, long seams. Other companies have you stitch the gore as a separate piece, pivoting at the top, which can create a pucker. Not this pattern. Easy peasy. Thanks, Bea!

Grace Collection Grace O’Malley, chief commander and director of murders at sea, Pirate Queen, Queen of Umaill, chieftain of the O Maille clan in Ireland. Whew, that’s quite a bit for a wee ginger lass in the 16th century, but she never believed she was any different from the lads. As a child, she stowed away on her father’s ship as he set off for a trading expedition to Spain. Rather than reprimanding her, Grace’s father taught her to sail, navigate, fight and command men. When he died, Gaelic law demanded a man take his place as chieftain - and Grace declared she was the right man for the job. The clan rejoiced and followed her. One source reports, “they enjoyed traditional pastimes such as stealing cattle, poaching castles, feuding, intermarrying and vying for domination.” For three hundred years her family ruled Clew Bay on Ireland’s west coast, known for its intricate system of small islands and greatly varying sea-depths which made sailing the waters treacherous. One account tells of Grace, the day after giving birth aboard ship, successfully fighting off Turkish corsairs who made the mistake of trying to overtake her fleet. Grace faced invasion from rival clans, as well as from England in the Nine Years War for British sovereignty in Ireland. Grace notoriously sailed her fleet into open waters, catching the attention of the British naval ships and drew the Brits into Clew Bay where

the royal fleet would run aground and sink. A gifted and strong fighter, she lead by example, even reprimanding one of her sons in battle at Kinkirk Castle yelling in her native Gaelic, “Are you trying to hide in my arse, the place that you came out of?” In 1593, around the start of the war with Britain, two of Grace’s sons, along with cattle and lands, were taken by British forces. She petitioned Queen Elizabeth I for their release and was granted an audience at Greenwich Palace. Grace dressed for the occasion in a fine gown, but the pomp and circumstance seemed to end there. Guards confiscated a dagger, which she explained she kept on her person for protection. Gaining entry to the court, Grace didn’t bow to Elizabeth, for she did not recognize Elizabeth as Queen of Ireland and Grace considered them equals as sovereign rulers of their own people. Speaking in Latin, their only common language, they negotiated terms for the release of captives on both sides, as well as the Brits relinquishing lands and property taken from the clan. The men were released, but the lands and cattle were not, the British army ramped up their war efforts in Ireland, and Grace took up again in the battle to fight back against British rule. Over 18,000 English troops fought in Ireland, finally gaining control in 1603, around the time both Grace O’Malley and Queen Elizabeth passed away.

Whether you create a shawl to wear around your shoulders when the house gets chilly, or you sew a loose tunic with handkerchief hems, Grace Shadows is a perfect fabric choice. Featuring reversible woven paisley, butterfly and floral designs, one side is a very dark indigo and the other is black. We recommend hand washing this beauty.

Great Copy Patterns #2585 “Tahoe Jacket”

The last two fabrics are stunning together. We honestly had the toughest time choosing which side to feature for Grace Herringbone, as this is totally reversible. One side featureds a pale and strong indigo herringbone weave, while the other side is soft flannel-goodness. Choose a sewing pattern that will showcase both sides We implore you to pair it with Grace Imposter, a decadent deep indigo suede cloth so soft to the touch you will be glad when the days turn cold just so you can wear it!

Bonney Collection Born from an affair between an affluent attorney and his maid, little Anne started life on the back foot in Kinsale, County Cork, Ireland 1697. Secreted away from his wife, William Cormak dressed his illegitimate daughter as a boy he called Andy, and took the child to work as his law clerk. When the scandalous affair was discovered, William, Anne and Anne’s mother, Mary Brennen, sailed for America, settling in Charleston, South Carolina. Typhoid fever claimed Mary in the new world, leaving William to raise a wild teenage girl, who was said to frequent saloons, drink with pirates, and was “not altogether so reserved in point of chastity.” She married a small time pirate named James Bonney and set sail for Nassau. James was a terrible, unsuccessful pirate who made no money to keep Anne in the comfort to which she was accustomed. He got caught by the British governor in Nassau, but cut a deal, turning informant and ratting out the other pirates. Anne dumped him, and took up with the notorious Calico Jack, a buccaneer as flamboyant as he was ruthless. Calico Jack offered James money to release Anne from her marriage contract, but upon hearing of her husband’s refusal Anne simply sailed off and became Calico Jack’s lover. She dressed as a woman on ship, even though women were considered bad luck, acting as Jack’s helpmate, but she dressed as a

man for battle as not to show weakness or draw attention to herself. Jack left her in Cuba when she became pregnant, and after childbirth she left the baby behind so she could rejoin her love on his flagship Revenge. A new crew member had been taken on....by force. A fierce, foul mouthed fighter, Anne recognized what no one else could - this was a woman dressed as a man. When a jealous Calico Jack burst into Anne’s cabin to slit the throat of his “rival for her affections”, Mary Read opened her shirt to reveal she was all woman. Anne and Mary became best friends, fighting side by side as they attacked ships in the Caribbean. In 1720 the Revenge, while in port, came under attack from a British naval ship. The male pirates were too drunk to fight, so the ladies alone stood their ground. Mary famously yelled to the crew below deck, “If there’s a man among ye, ye’ll come up and fight like the man ye are to be!” She shot her pistol at the floor, killing a sailor below. The male pirates were all hanged, but the ladies were spared, both claiming to be pregnant. Mary died from fever in prison, and various rumors abound regarding the aftermath of Anne Bonney. One story claims Anne’s father paid for her release, sailed her back to South Carolina, and married her off to Joseph Burleigh who was intrigued by her character (and the chance for a fun love life), and together they had eight children.

Orchid Mist was the color inspiration for this next collection. Cobham Flora features a delightful print, colored with yellow, apricot, fuchsia, off-white and orchid mist on a black crinkled rayon. For an edgy urban look, create a tunic to wear over leggings made from the following stretch velvet, and for a more New England ensemble stitch up a long dress to wear with a long stretch velvet jacket.

Folkwear Patterns #108 “Turkish Dancer”

The velvet pile on Cobham Plush is orchid mist, but the base knit is a stronger iris color, creating an iridescence to the fabric. Traditionalists will use a nap layout, while more adventurous sewists will piece together this fabric at varying angles to amplify the effect of the iridescence.

Cobham Collection For our Canadian clients we present your most famous female pirate, Maria Lindsey Cobham. Raised in Plymouth, she had little hope of becoming more in life than a scullery maid or prostitute. When she married Eric Cobham, his pirating life intrigued her. She could be her own woman, set her own hours, gamble at cards, drink in an unladylike manner, and feel the thrill of attacking ships and killing men. On the west coast of the Gulf of St. Lawrence, New Foundland, sat the hideout of this husband and wife team who viciously attacked French merchant ships. During the Golden Age of Pirates a century before, it was customary for pirates to leave a couple vanquished sailors alive to tell the tale of the attack. But for twenty years in the mid-18th century, Eric and Maria Cobham took a different path, waiting for ships in distress so they could slaughter the crew to eliminate witnesses, steal the booty, and sink the ships which were later presumed lost at sea. CanadasHistory.ca cautions people to take the stories as folk lore, for if the tales were true, “she demonstrated all the sensitivity of a homicidal maniac.” Tales abound of Maria poisoning a crew so she could watch them writhe as their ship went down in the icy water, sewing sailors into the mainsail before sinking them, and even

letting sailors run around so she could use them for target practice. The Cobhams were never tried for any crimes. French authorities never felt anything was amiss with the amount of ships not completing their journeys. In 1740 the couple moved with their three children to Le Havre, a maritime city in Normandy, France. Having a clean history, they established themselves in the society of the French landed gentry with servants and land. Eric even became a magistrate and then a judge, but he also enjoyed a great deal of wenching. Maria did not fair well, drinking way too much alcohol and dosing it with laudanum, an opium-based painkiller. The couple drifted apart. Maria disappeared, her body being found two days later at the base of sheer cliffs. She had been poisoned, either by her own hand with the laudanum, or by Eric in his desire to be rid of her. Either way, Eric had a guilty conscious, and on his deathbed he called for a priest to come record his confession to be printed as a cautionary tale upon his death. Although the Cobham children were said to have bought all the copies and burned them, a first draft is rumored to exist at the Archives Nationales, Paris. If all accounts are true, Maria Cobham was the only female pirate known to plunder the Atlantic coast of Canada.

Tailor a smart jacket and skirt to wear to the office, and then toss the jacket over leggings and a knit top when going out to dinner with friends. This is a winter neutral color, meaning it will coordinate well with a wide range of colors for mix-and-match wardrobe options. The cotton flannel tartan on our next page (#52) comes from a source for high end fabrics in New York. The quality is simply exquisite, and the garment options we thought of are numerous. Ching Collection When colonial America was waging war for independence, a little girl was born on the other side of the world who would go on to become one of China’s fiercest outlaw leaders. In her youth, Ching Shih rose from prostitute to a madame on a floating brothel in Canton, gambling, drinking and becoming an astute student of human interaction. When the notorious pirate, Cheng I, proposed to his favorite prostitute in 1801, she accepted only after negotiating her rights to 50% control of his fleet and 50% share in his booty. Together they amassed an enormous fleet of pirate ships called the Red Flag Fleet - over 600 ships and over 60,000 men. In 1807, Cheng I died. Immediately, Ching Shih asserted herself as the sole leader of the Red Flag Fleet. Faced with the choice of going back to prostitution or ruling the seas as a pirate lord, Ching Shih took command, even rising above her step sons whom she had adopted. She created laws to keep the pirates in line - a guide for how to behave and how to be punished if one stepped out of line. This included strict rules for the treatment of women. If a woman was captured, she could be freed or she could be kept if she consented to a monogamous relationship with one

pirate. If the pirate strayed, he would be killed. Any man who raped a woman would be killed. Ching Shih also found a way to provide for her mighty forces. Any booty that was acquired would be split 80/20 with the majority going to a common fund for the fleet and the lesser portion staying with the fortunate ship. She taxed coastal villages after raiding them. Naval ships from China, Spain and Portugal fell prey to her fleet. These countries would not stay down for long. They regrouped and came after the Red Flag Fleet, causing devastating losses. Ching Shih finally agreed to negotiate with the Chinese government. Although her troops now numbered less than 20,000, only 200 were sentenced to death or exile, the rest merely had to surrender their weapons, and she kept most of the wealth she had amassed. The government even granted her wish to dissolve her legal relationship with her adoptive son so they could become husband and wife. The couple went on to have two children of their own. When her second husband died at sea in 1822, Ching Shih returned to Canton and opened a successful gambling house which she ran until she died in 1844 at age 69.

$ Here’s another scrummy cotton French terry knit, this time in darkest grey. Aptly named, Ching Indulgence is begging to be stitched it into a waterfall sweater to wear over a top made from our dove grey peachskin. Or, whip up a classic knit wrap dress, toss on your knee length leather boots and drape your shoulders in a large scarf sewn from Ching Herringbone. This handsome buffalo check is woven from grey and black cotton and has the added bonus of the herringbone pattern to bring surface interest. Men will appreciate wearing this as a stylish shirt à la Bugatchi. Lightening things up in this collection is this dove grey peachskin we call Ching Silver. It is light enough to be worn as a blouse and tightly woven enough to be sewn into an a-line dress. Top it off with a sweater sewn from any of the knits in this collection.

Some of the best nuggets of this catalog are in this last collection, like Ching Puffer, a quilted double knit with a diamond design in rich black. This is a perfect choice to be sewn into a long vest, cardigan, or light knit jacket. Judy Kessinger offers wonderful patterns through her “Design it Yourself Workbook” with helpful online videos that accompany each design. Ask us about this book. Our last fabric in Fall 2018 is Ching Comfy, a heathered light grey cotton French terry knit. We see this fabric in today’s fashions for men and women, and it’s no wonder - French terry is soft and delicious to wear, and it looks like a sweatshirt knit without all the bulk. This piece in particular is a fantastic choice for garments where the reverse shows, since it is such a lovely contrast of black loops against the grey. Happy sewing everyone!
