We wanted this catalog to be filled with fabrics for all winter and holiday occasions, from casual comfy when at home with family, to something more spectacular that you can sew up now for a big gathering later.

First up is Embrace Cozy, a loose sweater knit in black and winter white that has such a soft hand you will want to wrap yourself in this.

Make a shawl, a wrap sweater, a long and loose sweater dress and even go retro with leg warmers!

We show it here as the sweater over a cowl neck top sewn from VF206-08.

Embrace Speckle is the first of two such ponte double knits in this catalog - the second being a tan in the last collection. It is firm enough to be sewn as a knit suiting, and soft enough to wear as a dress or slacks. This tailored fabric begs to be sewn into casual separates.

To add a pop of color to the collection, try holiday red. Embrace Terry is the first of three French terry knits from Telio & Cie in this catalog - the others being navy and peacock.

The high end quality of this import can be felt in the hand of the fabric. Made with a blend of rayon from Bamboo plus cotton which give it softness and breathability, there is also a hint of spandex to aid in recovery so you won’t have baggy knees and elbows.

From our popular Sofie collection of lightweight ponte knits comes Embrace Snow. We love this fabric as an option for knit tops and surplice dresses. It’s also a fabulous option, in any of its many colors, for loose pajama pants when you want to lounge at home.

For more colorful fun, we found Embrace Puckers, a lightweight textured knit to wear any time of the year as a lovely top.

We were so excited to receive this magnificent blend for you. Kläder Coating is a wool blend from Italy that offers visual and textural appeal. Make a swing coat lined with Bemberg if you live where winters don’t get dreadfully cold, or line a long coat with Kasha if you need a bit of added insulation.

The coating will be the most elegant and interesting topper to an outfit made with any of the following fabrics. Kläder Ash is a dark grey wool suiting that’s ideal for work as well as for smart slacks to wear anytime. Pair it with a sweater or top sewn from Kläder Heather, a super soft, lightweight knit. A simple jewel neck knit shirt is all you need to make this fabric into a basic wardrobe staple. Kläder Noir and Kläder Scarlet are both medium weight ponte di Roma double knit fabrics ideal for sewing into casual and knit-suiting separates. Sew slacks and a jacket from the black to wear with a top made from the lace and underlined with the red knit. And check out Kläder Quatrefoil, a novelty lace that we couldn’t resist offering to you. If you like classic elegance or vintage styles, a black sheath dress of the lace underlined with the black double knit can be worn with pearls and heels. If you like more edgy fashions, wear an unlined lace top over a separate princess seamed shell of the red double knit.

We know a lot of you are spending time at home, and these exciting pieces will make a statement no matter how you use them.

Hygge Scarlet is from our basic fashion collection of Crepe Back Satin, which we carry in many colors. It is a high quality cloth with luscious sheen on one side and textured matte finish on the other.

We actually like the crepe side as a match-mate for the following brocade, but the satin side does have the unmistakable holiday feel.

We hope your swatch shows you all the great colors in Hygge Festive. Light navy blue, gold, and red converge in a dynamic pattern on a black ground. The Danish concept of hygge (HUE-guh), coziness, is a mental and emotional state, not a physical state. According to Amy Livingston in her article for Money Crashers, “The word ‘hygge’ comes from an Old Norse word, ‘hugga,’ which means to comfort or console. This is also the source of the English word ‘hug,’ and that connection echoes in the way ‘hygge’ is used today. Hygge is all about warmth, comfort, and closeness – all the feelings you get from a hug.”

Not sure how to achieve this mental state? Take the first step and create a hyggelig atmosphere by lighting a bunch of candles in a room, pour a cup of hot cocoa, add a dollop of whipped cream, and curl up under a fleece blanket with your most comfortable lounging pajamas and socks. Not a bad first step. In normal years, Americans are always running from work to activities, taking the kids here and there. This is the perfect year to add hygge into our lives and relax a little.

This next satin back crepe is from a different source, not part of our regular online collection, and the crepe side has much more defined texture. Choose Hygge Navy as a companion piece when sewing Hygge Blossoms brocade.

This piece has more body and is slightly heavier weight than a suiting, so it is ideal for a lined dress or coat. The flowers are gold and grey, and the grey matches the following dull satin so well, you can pair these two fabrics together instead of wearing the navy as your solid.

Hygge Platinum is a medium weight, low luster satin from our popular Mystique collection, so many other colors are available. It’s a great price for a smart looking fabric. Sew a sheath dress from the platinum to wear with a jacket tailored from Hygge Baroque, a black and platinum matelassé. Like the blossoms, this fabric has too much weight and body to be worn as a blouse or slacks, but is a perfect choice for a swing coat, vest, jacket, or a straight skirt.

There’s nothing as indulgent in fabrics as silk charmeuse, and Fredagsmys Satin is no exception. Choose this lightweight and fluid fabric in rich burgundy when you want to make a cowl neck top, a loose tunic, or a princess seamed shell to wear while on a zoom call with work. Then dress it up a little by tossing on a jacket sewn from Fredagsmys Fancy, a reversible acetate blend with a freeform diamond design. $19.95 Folkwear 150 Hungarian Szur Worn by Magyar herdsmen in Hungary as far back as the Middle Ages, the Szur is a dramatic, mid-calf coat that was traditionally worn over the shoulders as a cape and lavishly decorated with cutwork felt appliquĂŠ. The geometric shapes of this garment make it an ideal canvas for other handwork techniques, as well as for handwoven fabrics.

Pattern includes instructions for a traditional and contemporary version, appliquĂŠ decoration, and historical lore about the Magyar.

Folkwear 262 Spectator Coat

The two fully-lined versions of this coat offer widely cuffed set-in sleeves plus two hat patterns as well. View A is a low-calf length featuring a sweeping cape collar, two off-center front buttonand-loop closures, and deep patch pockets. The ankle length View B features a curving front hem that attractively envelops the legs. The pleated right front, asymmetrical front button-and-loop closures, and stand-up chin-brushing collar create a truly dramatic look. The bias-cut half circle design falls smoothly on the shoulders and molds smoothly to the upper arms. A permanent center front closure holds the garment in place just below the throat. The edges can be finished with a variety of trims. It features an ample hood for protection from the sand and sun, or for discreet camouflage. The hood can be worn up or casually flung back. A long tassel at the peak of the hood is essential to add weight and to provide the perfect visual accent.

The boot-length reversible coat is perfect for inventive fabric combinations. The coat hangs closed in the front without fastenings. It features a quilted or trapunto border at the hem, neckline, and front opening. Fredagsmys Collection On Friday night, rather than going out to clubs or movies, people stay home with family or a couple close friends, to watch TV and eat lots of snacks. This is lovingly referred to as fredagsmys - Friday cozy.

Appropriate clothing for fredagsmys includes sweat pants and a large, comfy shirt, like one would wear on a day off when no one else is around. The evening starts with tacco kväll, “tacco evening” (we aren’t making this up). Matthias Kamann, a writer for Hej Sweden, says tacco kväll is a great compromise when people can’t decide “whether to eat pizza or sushi.”

After dinner, the evening moves to the sofa for movie watching accompanied by snacks. Most popular are chips and dip, mainly because the dips are so delicious and chips are the vehicle to get the dip to one’s mouth - it’s not good form to eat dip with a spoon.

Also popular is a mix of sweet and salty little candies, like mixing chocolate nibs with tiny marshmallows, licorice, popcorn, and sour candies, all in one dish.

Glögg Collection Glögg - what a great word. It sounds like a loud gulping.

Glögg Glögg Glögg Glögg Glögg. This beloved drink has been enjoyed for centuries to warm the body and soul during the dark winter days. At its core, it is a mulled wine. But in Scandinavia, it is a cultural identifier. The most popular way to make Glögg is to first boil winter spices in water for half an hour, then strain the water into a cheap red wine, add a little sugar, some aquavit and orange rind, and let it steep, or mull, over a low heat. It takes time for all the flavors to marry (and to let those delicious spices waft through the house). The spices used are cinnamon, cloves, ginger, and cardamom - popular choices to heat us up and settle our tummies.

Aquavit is a Nordic, clear, distilled spirit, similar to a gin or vodka, infused with spices. Depending on the country, aquavit (from the Latin “water of life”) can be made from potatoes or grain, and it is flavored with caraway, fennel, coriander and anise. As for the wine, cheap red wine is the most popular choice. Legend has it that glögg is heavily spiced to cover the taste of bad wine, so why use the good stuff? Get your Crock Pots out and concoct some glögg this winter to warm you from head to toes.
