We begin this season with a luscious frosty purple collection named after Santa’s Reindeer, Dasher. Because, let’s face it, you’ll look dashing in anything from this group! Begin with Dasher Bouclé, a lightweight knit from Telio, sporting purple curly cues on a black base. The two colors plus all the texture provide wonderful visual depth. The fabric looks heavy, but it is loose and light and wonderful to wear as a knit top, or back it with Sofie Ponte knit to create a warm jacket or vest.

Winter 2021 - A Note From the Editor To our dear subscribers, thank you for another wonderful year. Our 30th Anniversary Issue, Fall 2021, was a huge success, and we appreciated all the praise you sent our way.

Your positive energy drives the entire staff.

In October, we undertook a Herculean task and moved our massive retail store across town into our warehouse. The catalog has always operated out of the warehouse, so the move did not affect order fulfillment too much. But as the company owner, catalog director, and in-house graphic designer, the move took much of my time away from researching and writing the catalog. I am sure you will forgive me for not composing themed collection paragraphs for this issue. These whimsical nuggets were something started by my predecessor nearly 20 years ago, and I continued with that tradition because of the lovely comments we receive from subscribers who tell us they appreciate learning something new with each catalog.

I did write the fabric descriptions, and I’m excited to share with you some new fabrics I purchased specifically for this issue, including tie-dye French Terry Knits from Telio, new cotton shirtings from designer Tori Richard, a selection of Italian imports, plus new sewing patterns from Sewing Workshop and Liesl, to name a few.

If you choose to knock out the new Lisle Melville Vest in our bouclé knit, wear it over a classic button-down shirt or tunic stitched from Dasher Cobble.

This cotton print from fashion designer Tori Richard will also look smart for a man’s shirt, pocket scarf, tie and vest.

An alternative fabric to wear with the bouclé is Dasher Slub, a very lightweight Tencel® rayon knit with subtle slubbed texture. Consider using this novelty knit as a lining for Dasher Bouclé so you can have a complete chic look for a jacket with a waterfall front.

Dasher Blooms showcases purple flowers tossed against a black background with subtle squares.

This extra wide (66”!) rayon jersey knit feels so soft to the touch you will want to wear it all the time. Fashion a dramatic wrap dress with bell sleeves to wear throughout the year.

We were thrilled to receive Dasher Regal because of the quality and the price. This is designer deadstock from New York. Our reorderable basic stock silk charmeuse runs nearly double the price that we are asking for this elegant lightweight satin. Its beautiful fluidity and dull sheen make this ideal for sewing a button-down blouse, a simple tunic, or a lovely wrap top.

Our second Tori Richard cotton print is Dasher Flurry, so named because the myriad flowers are tossed like plum snowflakes. Construct a fun top to wear with leggings or a skirt whipped up in our Dasher Delight 200GSM rayon jersey knit.

The first two fabrics in our Prancer collection are wonderfully textured cotton knits. Whether you color block Prancer Prima and Prancer Secunda, or wear them separately, you will surely be complimented for their beautiful quality.

LJ Designs #876 “Triple T’s”

Designer Pattie Otto takes the challenge out of cutting and sewing a bias skirt as well as easy elastic application. The skirt has optional self-fabric ties for a relaxed look.

Recommended Fabrics: Light weight woven fabrics with drape, such as handkerchief linen, lawn, voile, batiste, broadcloth, chambray, challis, geotgette, peachskin, chiffon, charmeuse, and poly-silkies Recommended Notions: Thread, 1.25” elastic, scrap of ribbon Yardage requirements:

From Whistler Studios come two cotton plaid prints that you can sew into shirts to give as gifts, or to wear for the holidays. Vixen Primo is mostly navy with a tattersall print in white and red. Let’s change gears and head into a black, red and white collection now. Comet Alpine is a slightly textured sweater knit. Whether you make it into a quick pull-over top, a zip-front knit jacket, or a classic cardigan, you can’t go wrong with this fun fabric. It would make a striking ensemble as the new Melville long knit vest from Liesl, worn over a dramatic, long black dress sewn from our next fabric.

Our second faux suede in this catalog, Comet Imposter, is much more substantial than the lightweight brown knit we featured earlier. That’s because this is a luxury suede made in Japan for the fashion house Theory. We picked it up as designer deadstock. Yardage is limited, so if you like this, make sure to order early.

We had already finalized the Winter Catalog when this collection arrived at our warehouse ahead of schedule, so we quickly rearranged collections to make room for these. Five of the six are delicious, lightweight rayon blend French terry knits from Telio and Cie in Canada.

We had ordered the tie-dye and the matching solids, but they were only able to ship part of the order due to supply chain issues. If we receive the other fabrics, we will add them to our website and link them to their companions. Until then, may we present to you Blitzen Moss, Blitzen Ink and Blitzen Blush (#37, 39, 40) which are tie-dyed with a shibori look. Then we have Blitzen Dark Rose and Blitzen Stone (#41, 42) which are the “solid” tie-dyes, so they have more of a mottled effect. The first one, the moss, we paired with Blitzen Olive, a solid, lightweight option from our Sofie Collection (many colors available). If you would like a Sofie to match the ink and the stone, try Sofie charcoal and denim respectively.

Make any number of casual separates from these knits, to wear as well as to give as gifts. The backs look very cool, so don’t be afraid to sew patterns where the wrong side of the fabric shows, like a jacket with a waterfall front or a hoodie. Photos of the backs are online.

Take a good look at Rudolph Surprise. It is an Italian stretch-woven wool-blend with a dull sateen finish on the face. The soft sheen just catches the light in a way to make the fabric look incredibly rich without being overtly shiny. Choose this for your little black dress, or for a stunning tailored suit.
