You can feel it in the air, can’t you? The cooler temps and stronger winds outside, plus retailers putting up holiday-themed displays inside, winter is making an entrance. Are you ready for it? Do you need some new comfy cozies to wear? Are you planning on making gifts to give this year? We’ve got you cov ered on all fronts.
Feel the softness of Nog Ash and imagine wearing this against your skin as a pullover. You will want to wear it every day. We recommend sewing a simple long-sleeve top from Nog Ash and pulling on an oversized button-down shirt made from Nog Tartan when you need a little extra layer of warmth. Nog Tartan is also ideal for making pajamas for yourself, or loungewear to give as a gift.
For something understated yet really cool looking to wear to the office or to a casual holiday party, we have paired up Nog Temptress with Nog Pais ley. Nog Temptress is a low-luster satin with great body and cross-grain stretch. Whizz up a princess seamed top or a sheath dress. When the snow begins falling, the fireplace is lit, and you tell Alexa to play Christmas carols, you know it’s time for eggnog. Why do we love this drink so much? Perhaps because it is unfrozen ice cream? Seriously, raw eggs, milk, and sugar are combined in a rich and creamy holi day drink. Eggnog has its origins in medieval Britain as posset, a hot drink of sweetened and spiced milk curdled with warm ale or wine, served in small cups called gins. Monks added whipped eggs and figs, which made it sweeter and creamier. The British brought this tasty treat to the American colonies and it became wildly popular. Most colonials could make fresh eggnog from their own hens and cows, and the booze was changed to the more readily available rum and whiskey. Today this yuletide drink is more popular in the states than in Britain, and we add warming spices like cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg. Whether you love it or hate it, there is no denying that egg nog is popular this time of year. There are many recipes for making your own eggnog, but this one is super easy.
3 eggs, beaten*
3 T light brown sugar
3 cups heavy cream
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon 1 dash ground nutmeg
Blend everything together and serve chilled. Spike with rem if desired.
*Disclaimer: This recipe contains raw eggs, which may not be safe for some individuals, including pregnant women, young children, the elderly, and the infirm.

Two fabrics - four options. HBR Uptown and HBR Downtown are both reversible stretch-woven bottom-weights ideal for structured garments. You can even use them together in a pieced garment for added intrigue. Please note, the stretch runs along the grain so cut your sewing pattern across the grain, allowing the stretch to wrap around your body (see page 10 inset). Your swatch is oriented for a lengthwise view, but our croquis is oriented for your garment.
HBR Heather is the first of three such sweater knits in this catalog. Feel the softness of this rayon and acrylic blend. You probably have a knit top sewing pattern you love to make - so whip this up in no time and wear your new top with slacks tailored from HBR Ruby, the Venetian Red color of our popular Felix Stretch Gabardine collection. Choose this for making slacks, a skirt, a jacket, a vest, and a couple’s holiday outfits. Have some fun!

We first released HBR Plush in limited quantity to our retail store, and we asked some customers what came to mind when they chose to buy it. Answers included: romance, holiday, and Argentine tango. The drama is certainly inherent in this fabric. We love it as a fitand-flare dress or wide-legged pull-on pants which allows the drape to really come through.

Dana Marie #1047 “The Right to Bare Arms”
HBR Collection
If eggnog is more popular in the States than in Britain, what are the Brits drinking this time of year? One fav is Hot Buttered Rum. Made with rum, butter, and either ci der or water, and packed with classic holiday spices, this tipple is an off-shoot of the hot toddy, substituting rum for the toddy’s traditional whiskey. Why would someone add butter to a drink instead of cream? No one is really sure, although, there were buttered drinks in Tudor Eng land without the hooch. Butter is a fantastic fat for add ing creaminess to a drink. After all, butter is just overwhipped heavy cream without the buttermilk.
This recipe comes from Wine Enthusiast:
1 stick (4 ounces) unsalted butter
½ cup light brown sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground cloves
1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 teaspoon ground allspice
Pinch of salt
2 ounces dark or aged rum
6 ounces hot water
Cinnamon stick, for garnish (optional)
In a mixing bowl, combine butter, vanilla extract, sugar, spices, and salt. Beat until well combined. In a heat-proof glass or mug, combine aged rum with 1 ounce (2 table spoons) spiced butter mixture. The remaining batter can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for future use. Top with hot water and stir until ingredients are well incorporated. Garnish with a cinnamon stick if preferred.
Lay out your pattern pieces across the grain, rather than with the grain, to better match your plaid.
Laying things out this way helps you see the big picture.

We can’t believe how popular hunter green has been this fall already, and we see no signs of it slowing down. For those of you who remember the Sophia Collection, Kir Forest is of that ilk. Choose this supple ponte for any number of knit garments. Kir Highlander is as close to a timeless Black Watch plaid as we have found this season. Sew a classic button-down shirt from the plaid to wear with slacks and a jacket tailored from Kir Pinwale, a rich navy stretch-woven cotton corduroy. Use your nap layout for both the plaid and the corduroy, and see our guide on page 10 for the easiest way to lay out and cut your plaid so the lines match up.
Add an infusion of color into your navy and hunter wardrobe with Kir Blooms, the first of three such rayon jersey prints in this issue. This one features red, dark pink, yellow and white flowers with green and white leaves on a navy background. Enjoy the all-way stretch and lightweight nature of this jersey for crafting a com fortable knit top, a surplice dress, or a yoga skirt to wear over tights. A top from this print also looks fabulous with navy corduroy slacks.
p. 11
The next two fabrics were matched for each other. Kir SofKnit is a sumptuous doublebrushed ITY in dark navy which matches the dark squares of our Kir Hipster cotton plaid flannel. Need sewing inspiration? How about a knit top with plaid pajamastyle pants, a knit top with a plaid overshirt, or a knit top with a plaid skirt or kilt? Get extra of the Hipster to make scarves to give as quick gifts for the holidays.
Speaking of gifts, when we unpacked Kir Plush, our office manager immediately took three yards to sew robes for her nieces in Portugal for Christmas. At 70” wide, you can order less and get more pattern pieces across the fabric. The dramatic diagonal print is large with a 26” repeat. No need to match, but choose a sewing pattern with fewer seams to capture the design. Kir Cornflower was picked as a companion to help make the center of the flowers pop on the Plush. The Cornflower is a 225 GSM rayon knit, so it has great body.

Kir Collection
What do a Catholic priest, a WWII resistance fighter, and a longtime mayor of Dijon all have in common? They are one and the same: Canon Felix Kir (Kir rhymes with beer). The story goes that Kir stayed in Dijon when the Nazis invaded and he helped 5,000 prisoners escape from the camp at Longvic. He also became a local hero after the Nazis stole the cherished regional red wine. Kir mixed a white burgundy with blackcur rant liquor which made the drink look like red wine, then he served it to locals to keep spirits up. Originally the drink was called blanc-cassis for the two components. In his capacity both as a priest and as a politician, Kir would serve visitors this now popular local drink. The blanc-cassis became so synony mous with Kir, the locals renamed it in his honor. For special occasions, he swapped out the wine with champagne, a drink that became known as Kir Royale.
How to make a Kir Royale: 5 oz chilled Champagne 1 oz Crème de Cassis (or Chambord)
Add champagne to a flute. Top slowly with the crème de cassis. Et Voilà! Magnifique!

Are you planning on skiing in the Tyrolian Alps this winter?
If so, be sure to order a warm mug of Jagertee. This AustroBavarian “Hunter Tea” begins with a black tea base, then adds in local rum, wine, liqueur, and a smattering of winter spices for good measure. Europeans love to lay claim to their cre ations and protect them with regional designations. The name “Jagertee” can only be used when the drink is made in Austria using inländer rum (domestic Austrian rum). Stroh Rum is a popular brand with a high alcohol content - 160 proof - and contains hints of vanilla and butterscotch. Serve your Hunters Tea in a footed mug with a garnish of a cinnamon stick, kick back, and enjoy sloooowwwwly
1 cup black tea, brewed
1 cup spiced rum
1 cup red wine
1 cup plum brandy or schnaps
1 cup orange juice
2 or 3 whole cloves
1/4 cinnamon stick
Sugar to taste
Heat everything except the sugar in a pot and let simmer 5 minutes. Remove from heat. Add a little sugar to taste. Serve in a small mug. We recommend only serving this in small quanti ties to people who will not be driving or operating machinery. We really hope the hunters drank this at the end of the day, not during the hunt, if they wanted to have any kind of success.

How to Care For Your Fabrics
The care instructions in this catalog are a con servative path, but not an absolute. There is no one size fits all for fabric care because of all the variables, such as hard versus soft water, well and septic versus municipal water, washers with and without a center aggitator, dryers that have a noheat option, etc.
One supplier would have everyone dry clean every fabric, but for many of you this is not feasable.
Here are some general guides. You can always use your swatch to test how a fabric will react to wash ing and drying.
Pro-Tip: Set your washer for an extra long spin cycle to remove excess water, then toss in the dryer on low heat for 5 minutes before hanging or laying flat. This minimizes wrinkles, and helps fibers last longer.

Sewing Workshop Collection “Picasso” - ensemble
Use all four of these fabrics.
Our Tante Collection pairs hunter green with rust for combinations that will look great every fall and winter. Begin with Tante Rust, a medium-bodied, supple ponte. Choose this fabric for sewing a cardigan and pull-on pants, a cute wrap dress, a princess-seamed mock turtleneck, and so much more! It picks up some of the flowers in Tante Blooms, the last in our trio of rayon floral knit prints in this design. Knock out a cute wrap top of the print to wear with a rust cardigan and knit slacks made from Tante Forest. This ponte knit is firmer than the rust, making it better suited for constructed garments that have more structure and less flow. Tante Ribs is the same forest green color, but in a light and fluid modal rib knit. Use this fabric as a contrasting texture to the ponte which looks great in a sweater set.
We couldn't resist adding one more knit print to this group, which you will find on the next page. The colors of Tante Garden blend well, and who doesn’t love an allcotton knit? Choose a pattern that calls for lightweight, all-way stretch knits that can handle diagonals.

Tante Collection
We found many recipes for Tote Tante (pronouced toe-teh tahn-teh), but we really had to dig deep for the origin of the name, which translates to “dead aunt.” Off the west coast of Denmark, in the North Sea, lies the Frisian island of Föhr. According to legend, a cherished family member died in America, and her ashes were smuggled back to Föhr in a box of cocoa so she could be buried among her family. Can you guess this is a cocoa-based drink? Quite simply, Tote Tante is hot chocolate with either rum, amoretto, or kirsch, topped with whipped cream and dusted with cinnamon and nutmeg. Whip this up, and serve it with Kalte Schnauze (cold muzzle), a classic no-bake cookie cake layered with chocolate, that looks a lot like a cold dog’s nose. If nothing else, you will have great conversation starters regarding the names of your tasty treats!
Recipe adapted from Herzelieb.de 4 cups milk 1 dark chocolate bar for cooking (3.5 oz or 100g)
handfuls of love 2 T brown rum
Whipped cream for topping
Bring the milk to a boil briefly and keep warm on the low est heat. Add the coarsely chopped chocolate and dissolve in the milk, stirring lovingly. The cocoa is ready. Pour the cocoa into a large cup, add rum and cover with a thick layer of whipped cream. Dead Aunt is drunk through the cream cap and never stirred!

Ponche Collection
If you are traveling to Mexico for a winter vacation, make sure to order Ponche Navidad. This warm, seasonal sangria has a Mexican flair. Did you know that the word “punch” comes from the Urdu word for “five” which is pronounced punch? When the British moved into India, they found a drink with five main ingredients: palm wine, sugar, lemon, tea, and water. The Brits brought the “punch” home, but swapped out the palm wine for red wine and spruced it up a bit. The drink made its way to Spain, and the Spanish introduced it to Mexico in the 1600s. There are now hundreds of variations, but most incorporate tamarind, guava, tejocotes (the stone fruit of the Mexican Hawthorne tree), cinnamon, and piloncillo (a dark brown unprocessed cane sugar that tastes like molasses). Mix the ingredients together, let them sit in the fridge for a few days, allowing the flavors to marry, then warm it for your guests. Serve with a splash of rum or brandy, and feed your guests some empa nadas, tamales, and cakes. Yum! Here is one recipe that can be served the day you make it:
4 qts water
6 guavas, peeled and quartered
½ lb tejocotes (or crabapples)
5 tamarind pods, husked and seeded
2 large red apples, cut into chunks
2 pears, cut into chunks
2 oranges, sliced
1 piloncillo cone (or 1 cup dark brown sugar)
1 cup raisins
1 T whole cloves
4 cinnamon sticks
Stovetop method: Put all ingreadients in a large stockpot. Bring to a boil and immediately lower heat, cover, and simmer for at least 30 minutes. Large crock pot method: halve the ingredients and set pot on high for 3 hours. Turn to low when it starts to bubble.
Serve in mugs with a splash of rum or brandy (optional). Make sure to spoon some fruit into each cup as a tasty snack.

This collection is based on the first two fabrics, seen on the previous page. Ponche Plush is totally fondle-worthy, and the pale mulberry color is so wearable. Choose this for a sweater set with Ponche SofKnit, a perky double-brushed ITY knit featuring mulberry and squash-colored flowers on a creamy background. If you like a little pop of color in your ensembles, pick up Ponche Squash. It perfectly matches the orange flowers in the print. We show it as a binding for the neckline, sleeves, and hem, or you can insert it as a contrast panel. Sew a top from the solid and a swing skirt from the print, then pull the ensemble together with a cardigan sewn from the mulberry plush. Yummy!
Cast your eyes on Ponche Intrigue, a reversible, iridescent brocade twill. The face features mulberry and dark squash colors, while the reverse is black, red, and blue. Both sides shimmer with golden threads. We do recommend lining your garment to make it softer against the skin.

We received two cherry prints and couldn’t choose between them, so we are offering both in this catalog. They are each wonderful in their own right, and they can be worn all year long. Sbagliato Garnish features small clusters of cherries on a midnight stretch cot ton shirting. Hop ahead to Sbagliato Festive to check out larger clusters of cherries on a creamy rayon blouse weight woven. The cot ton print is lighter weight but has more body for classic shirts, while the rayon print has a lovely fluid drape ideal for long tunics. You can’t go wrong with these in your wardrobe. Sew up a cardigan and skirt or pull-on widelegged pants from Sbagliato Scarlet to tie things together. This Italian viscose ponte was milled by the Dondi Group in Italy and the color is aptly called Venetian Red.

Sbagliato Collection
A relative newcomer to the Italian holiday drinks depart ment is Negroni Sbagliato. Its base component, Negro ni, was created in 1919 at the Caffè Casoni in Florence, Italy. A standard drink at the time was the Americano, made with equal parts Campari and sweet vermouth, some soda water, and a lemon twist garnish. One night, Count Camillo Negroni ordered an Americano but told the bartender to replace the soda water with gin. It was so tasty, he founded the Negroni Distillery and bottled the mixture as Antico Negroni. Fast forward to 1972 Milan at its historic Bar Basso, where bartender Mirko Stoc chetto replaced the gin with prosecco, Italy’s version of Champagne. He called it Negroni Sbagliato - a “wrong” Negroni. He served it with an orange twist to signify it wasn’t a correct Negroni.
Ingredients: Campari Sweet vermouth Prosecco
Pour equal parts of Campari and sweet vermouth into an ice-filled glass and stir. Add in an equal measure of prosecco (or more, to taste). Enjoy responsibly.

Sbagliato Tencel is a delicious blended suiting in midnight navy that has an suede-like finish. We love this for Hol lywood trousers and a long, unlined, relaxed-fit jacket. Now make a blouse from Sbagliato Blossoms rayon crepe print for an eye-catching ensemble. The rayon takes on a more crinkled appear ance when it is washed in cold water. Take note, the red is already blended into the edges of the white flowers to soften the floral look. The colors will not bleed in cold water.

Coquito Collection
What do you get when you make eggnog with coconut?
Puerto Rican coquito! Puerto Rican cuisine today is a fu sion of tastes influenced by the indigenous Taíno culture, the Spanish colonizers, and a bit of America. Five hun dred years ago the Spanish invaders brought to the island that boozy curdled-milk drink called posset. The Span ish alcohol was replaced with local (and plentiful….and cheap….) spiced rum, and coconuts replaced the eggs. It tastes similar to Rumchata. Give this a try at your next holiday fiesta.
Mix the ingredients in a blender, refrigerate, serve cold.
1 can (131/2 oz) coconut milk
1 can (131/2 oz) coconut cream
1 can (12 oz) evaporated milk
1 bottle (10 oz) white rum
1/2 t cinnamon
Optional - dash of ground cloves and nutmeg
For a Cuban twist, serve with coconut ice cream.

It has been a struggle to find nice cotton corduroy this year due to import restric tions and high cotton prices. We were thrilled when a New York designer had an excess of this Italian printed pinwale, and we snapped it up for you! Coquito Prato features an abstract print in min gled hues of brown on a light and soft cotton pinwale corduroy. Tailor a hand some jacket, a straight dress, a long skirt, and funky slacks. As a solid coordinate we recommend Coquito Milano, a super soft and supple ponte with an elegant drape. Choose this for any sewing pat tern that calls for a light to medium weight all-way stretch knit. You will love how it feels against your skin during the cold winter months ahead.
Happy sewing everyone!
