L A V I T FES PINGS TRAP
EDITION 1
2 - 8 April CAPE TOWN • SOUTH AFRICA
The 18th Golden Oldies World Hockey Festival officially started fittingly in the shadows of Cape Town’s iconic Table Mountain. The Festival has drawn nearly 700 participants from 14 countries and enjoyed an outstanding opening ceremony at the 350 year old Cape of Good Hope Castle. The Parade of Nations led in by the stirring Cape Highlanders Pipe Band was officially opened by Christine Augusto, the Festival Director from Vintage Sport & Leisure after a welcome from WPCC President, Neil Strydom. In typical Golden Oldies Hockey style the
formalties were followed by some very serious informalty. The party was as good as any Golden Oldies party has ever been. The food was fantastic, the drinks flowed and the Band played the right stuff. The Festival could not have started on a better note with the scene of old friends greeting each other again through their love of hockey underlining the Golden Oldies ethos of Fun, Friendship and Fraternity. The first day’s play began in a cool wind, under cloudy skies with the magnificent Table Mountain providing a rapidly changing array of vistas.
