Hobart Welcomes Golden Oldies Netballers

With a lot of humour some brilliant Casino Royale costumes and a minimum of formalities the 16th Golden Oldies World Netball Festival in Hobart began in sensational style. The 53 teams brought Salamanca Market to a standstill in warm sunny conditions as they marched to Parliament Gardens for the official opening. Led by the Derwent Pipe Band G.O. players, partners and supporters paraded through the tree lined streets to hear welcomes from Festival Director, Christine Augusto,

Alderman Helen Burnet and Bobby Dillon. Bobby a Tasmanian Elder has a long association with the Netball community in Hobart and is playing for the Wrest Point Warriors. Following the speeches the festivities started in earnest at the Wrest Point Casino where teams concentrated on hydrating properly for the first round of games. If the opening is anything to go by the week is already an outstanding success.
