2016 Festival Overview Founded by Former All Black Tom Johnson, the First Golden Oldies World Rugby Festival was held in Auckland in 1979. Since then, they have been held every two years in rugby destinations around the world. This year the World Festival is coming to Wales for the first time as hosts for the 21st Celebration. The Celebration is being held between 21st - 28th August. The Festival will see over 100 teams and 1500 international participants from 25 countries join thousands of local participants & supporters in Cardiff for this unique celebration of rugby, Wales and camaraderie.

2016 Charity Partner Every World Festival is built on the foundation of Fun, Friendship & Fraternity with Golden Oldies nominating a charitable partner that is specific to the host destination. We are delighted to partner Wooden Spoon Wales, the Children’s Charity of Rugby, for the 2016 World Festival. Wooden Spoon Wales have a target of £50,000 for 2016 and we want to achieve their entire fundraising target through the 2016 Golden Oldies World Rugby Festival.

Volunteer Overview and Team Liaisons Volunteers at the Golden Oldies World Rugby Festivals have a fantastic experience as this is truly a unique opportunity! This is the World’s Biggest Rugby Festival, attracting thousands of rugby nuts from around the world to Wales for the first time in Golden Oldies Rugby history. Volunteers will be right in the middle of the excitement, mixing with players, supporters and more. The Golden Oldies movement is a growing community that has attracted participants from all corners of the globe since 1979 built on the foundation of Fun, Friendship and Fraternity. Team Liaisons Team Liaisons will form the core of the volunteer group. You will be involved in every aspect of the Festival mentioned on the following pages. Each Team Liaison will look after a select group of teams. Previous Team Liaisons have built up such close relationships and friendships that have lasted decades, with many joining their adopted teams at following Festivals. Team Liaisons will be the first point of contact for all things relating to Cardiff and Welshness! You get to show off your home nation to Golden Oldies who are delighted to be part of the Festival. We are also looking for Team Liaisons who are able to speak the following languages: Japanese Spanish German Portuguese Russian Australian...! Volunteer Benefits All Team Liaisons will receive exclusive merchandise, food and drink at the functions and a Festival gift! All other volunteers will receive a 21st Festival T-Shirt and food and drinks vouchers for the functions they can help out with.

Contact Volunteer Information Roles As we mentioned above, if you are a Team Liaison you will be part of all of the following aspects. However, if you are only available for some of the opportunities, then we would still love to have you involved. Sunday 21st August Opening Ceremony - Principality Stadium An incredible ceremony will begin with the Parade of Nations from Cardiff Castle down the centre of Cardiff into the bowl of the Principality Stadium! We’re looking for everything from Flag Bearers to stadium running order helpers. Monday 22nd / Wednesday 24th / Friday 26th Match Days - University Fields (Llanrumney) Ball Boys, medic runners and set-up helpers - we are particularly looking for some young rugby players or fans to take on these roles Tuesday 23rd August Big Day Out - St. David’s Hall Team Liaisons will be helping with entry to the venue, support with the Charity Casino and sharing the microphones around the crowd for the Legends Q&A! Wednesday 24th August Guinness World Record Scrum - University Fields (Llanrumney) One of the biggest features of the Festival - we’re going to try and break the World Record for the largest ever scrum! Currently standing at 1198 and held by the English RFU, we are going to try to get to 2000 participants and we need volunteers to help with this record attempt. Thursday 25th August Special Match Day - Cardiff Arms Park 12 of the visiting teams are playing a special match day at Cardiff Arms Park and we are looking for ball boys in addition to the support provided by Team Liaisons. Saturday 27th August Closing Ceremony - Principality Stadium Team Liaisons will be a crucial part of the Ceremony, ushering their teams to their tables, being spotters for Phil Steele for the Charity Auction and helping with the silent auction!
