Message from Mayor Peter Carlisle It is my pleasure to welcome the 2013 Golden Oldies Field Hockey Festival participants to Honolulu, Hawaii. No other city can offer you such a variety of fine hotels and cultural attractions, all provided in a setting of unparalleled tropical beauty. I am certain everyone associated with field hockey will find the Hawaiian Islands to be everything you imagined them to be—and more. The excellent City sports facilities, scenic splendor, the cultural diversity of our cosmopolitan population, the exciting array of entertainment and shopping attractions, and our access from major

ports across the globe combine to make Hawaii the most appealing of destinations. The 2013 Golden Oldies Field Hockey Festival promises to be an exciting and successful event, made all the more memorable by your visit to the Hawaiian Islands as the host site. The people of the City and County of Honolulu appreciate the opportunity to serve as hosts to you and look forward to welcoming you to our island home for your 2013 event, with aloha.

The Hockey

Golden Oldies Hockey is the desire to be part of a team, run with the stick and ball and to go on tour… ‘let the love of Hockey take you places’. Kapi´olani Regional Park located at the eastern end of Waikiki beach will be where the Hockey is played in 2013. Kapi´olani Regional Park is the largest and oldest public park in Hawaii, located in Honolulu, Hawaii on the eastern end of Waikiki Beach. The 300-acre (1.2 km2) park, named after Queen Kapi´olani, the Queen consort of King David Kala¯kaua, is home to the Waikiki Shell and the Honolulu Zoo and will provide the perfect setting to play Hockey. The location is ideal, just a short stroll from all Festival Hotels and amenities of the famous Waikiki Beach.

What’s in a name?

The Golden Oldies Sports Festivals have been designed to ‘let the love of Hockey take you places’. Previous Golden Oldies Hockey Festivals have been held in some of the world’s best tourism, sporting and lifestyle destinations including New Zealand, Australia, Fiji, Canada, Hong Kong, England, Ireland, Netherlands, Argentina and now Hawaii in 2013.   The name ‘Golden Oldies’ does not mean that your team cannot play to the best of its ability or to its strengths.  The sides you are drawn against will reflect the level of playing which you have told us your team prefers – ranging from ‘competitive’ to ‘social’ and anything in between. The difference is we don’t publish the scores and there is no overall winner. You get the chance to play your favourite game in another exciting part of the world and maximise the fun from it.
