CALGARY
WHAT’S HAPPENING We all know we live in the best city in the world, but it gives us extra pride when the rest of the world knows it too. Calgary was ranked third in the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) Global Liveability Index. Historically, Calgary has always ranked among the Top 10 in this annual survey, but this is its highest ranking so far, as it is tied for third with Zurich, Switzerland. Vienna, Austria, topped the list, followed by Copenhagen, Denmark. Vancouver was ranked fifth. Cities are rated in six categories, including stability, health care, culture, environment, education and infrastructure. Calgary received top marks for culture, environment and education. According to the Calgary Economic Development agency, Calgary has one the youngest and third most diverse population in Canada, with more than 120 languages spoken. “Add to this Calgary’s affordable cost of living and vibrant culinary, arts and culture scene, it’s no wonder why the city continues to attract innovators from around the world,” it says.
Shane Homes’ latest in Belmont Shane Homes is cranking up the excitement in Belmont as they introduce their latest front-drive showhome: The Moraine. The 2,100-square-foot, three-bedroom, two-and-a-half bath showhome opened on July 16, and feedback has been very positive, says Shane Homes Marketing Team Lead, Chelsey Tattrie. The standard Moraine model is at 1,985 square-feet but the new showhome includes a “super kitchen and an upgraded ensuite” for its show-stopping flair. It also features a spacious island in the central rear kitchen, a bright dining nook at the back, and a second-floor central family room that separates the owner’s suite from the secondary bedrooms. Its location in Belmont also adds to its allure for young families, with prices starting from the $710,000s. For more information, go to shanehomes.com. 14
