The British Egyptian Business Association (BEBA) is a non-governmental, non-profit organisation, serving the interests of the British / Egyptian business community. BEBA was established in 1996 with 100 members. Today, it has over 800 members, covering a broad cross-section of leading British and Egyptian corporations and individuals.

BEBA offers a wide range of services to its members, such as opening channels of communication between British and Egyptian businesses, organising trade missions between the two countries, showcasing current key business issues through workshops, seminars and lobbying for change at a governmental level on behalf of BEBA’s members. Message from the Chairman of BEBA

I am delighted to announce that BEBA Sectoral Business Mission to the UK is set to take place from June 13-16, 2023. Our objective for this four-day mission is to promote investment opportunities and discuss incentives to attract foreign direct investment (FDI) in Egypt’s strategic sectors, including hydrogen, decarbonization, green economy/bonds, mining, and financial services.

Sustainability is currently high on the agenda for futurefocused companies wanting to alter their business in the long term. BEBA’s Sectoral Mission to the UK is aligned with this target, and we aim to promote trade and FDI towards a sustainable future, focusing on strategic sectors that can help Egypt achieve its sustainable development goals. During the mission, you will have the opportunity to explore potential international business opportunities through

panel discussions, B2B, B2G, networking, dinners, and other activities.

We encourage British companies to strengthen their partnerships with Egyptian counterparts and to use Egypt as a gateway to other regional markets. We also aim to encourage enterprises to investigate the potential for decarbonization, green finance, and other options as part of our responsibility for promoting Egypt’s sustainable growth.

I would like to express our gratitude to the Ministry of Petroleum, the Ministry of Finance, the Egyptian Embassy in the UK, the British Embassy in Egypt, and all our mission partners for their continuous support.

Government Officials

HE Sherif Kamel, Egyptian Ambassador to the UK

Ambassador Sherif Kamel graduated from Ain Shams University in Cairo in 1991, with a BA in Civil Engineering.

Ambassador Kamel joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1993, and assumed different posts in Egypt’s missions abroad, starting with the Delegation to the United Nations in Geneva (19972001), as well as the Embassy in Washington DC (2005- 2009), then was appointed as the Deputy Chief of Mission at Egypt’s Embassy in New Delhi (2012-2016). He served as Egypt’s Ambassador to The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan (2018-2021), and is currently Egypt’s Ambassador to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland since December 2021.

Gareth Bayley took up his role as Her Britannic Majesty’s Ambassador to Egypt in August 2021. This appointment marks his return to Egypt, where he had been assigned earlier in his career.

Prior to this assignment, Ambassador Bayley was the Prime Minister ’s Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan, and the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) Director for South Asia and Afghanistan, from 2017 to May 2021.

Ambassador Bayley has held a number of roles within the Foreign Office since 1995. He worked on the Middle East and North Africa, the United Nations, and various roles on Peacebuilding, Conflict Prevention and Post-Conflict Transition.

Previous assignments include Chief of Staff to Quartet Representative Tony Blair, the UK Mission to the UN (2006 to 2009), Deputy Head of FCO’s Iraq Department (2005 to 2006) and the British Embassy Baghdad (2004 to 2005).

Ambassador Bayley was the UK Special Representative for Syria from October 2014 to October 2017.

• In 1998, he became Sales Manager and Member of the Board of Directors of Chevron Egypt S.A.E.

• During the period from 2002 till 2008, he got several Chevron assignments and managed projects in Dubai, Kenya & Singapore.

• In 2008 he became Managing Director – Marketing of Chevron Egypt.

From 2008 till end of 2010, he moved to Chevron South Africa, held the position of Regional Manager in charge of South & Central Africa’s Commercial & Industrial Business.

In Jan. 2011, he joined Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC). During the period from (2011 – 2013) he held the positions of Deputy CEO for Foreign Trade, Deputy CEO for Internal Trade and Deputy CEO for Operations

In Aug. 2013, He was appointed as EGPC’s CEO.

On 19th Sept. 2015, he was appointed as Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources.

Received his B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering Cairo University in 1986.

Joined Chevron (Egypt) in Jan. 1987. Worked in different fields and held various positions in Engineering, Operations, Planning, Sales and Marketing.

On 10th May 2017, the French President awarded him the “Ordre National de la Legion D’Honneur” at the rank of Knight

On 10th November 2020, the President of the Hellenic Republic awarded him the “Grand Commander of the Order of Phoenix”

Dr. Mohamed Maait is currently serving as the Minister of Finance, Prior to his appointment as Minister, he held the position Vice Minister of Finance for Public Treasury Affairs & Head of the Economic Justice Unit. In addition, he served as First Deputy Minister of Finance in 2015 and as a Deputy to the Minister of Finance for Pension and Social Insurance during the period (2009– 2013). In addition, he served as First Deputy Minister of Health & Population (2014 – 2015).

Over his career of 33 years, he held many positions such as Vice Chairman of the Egyptian Financial Super visor y Authority (20132015), Chairman of the Egyptian Governmental Actuarial Department (EGAD) at the Ministry of Finance (2010– 2013), Vice Chairman of the National Organization for Social Insurance (2011-2012), Senior Advisor to the Minister of Finance (20072009). He was also appointed as the Executive Director of the Egyptian Insurance Institute (2007). He also worked as a senior lecturer and has more than 30 years of teaching and researching experience at many universities in Egypt, Sudan, England and Scotland. He is also a member of many national and international committees and boards of directors.

HE Tarek El Molla, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources HE Dr. Mohamed Maait, Minister of Finance

Rami Aboul Naga is Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE), as of November 2019. He oversees the Markets and Foreign Relations sectors, Monetary Policy, Economic Research, Information Technology, and Banking Operations & Payment Systems. He is also a Board member of several institutions, such as the Egyptian Stock Exchange, Egypt Post, amongst others.

Since joining, he oversaw the prudent management of the CBE’s foreign reserves, ensuring compliance with the stringent investment guidelines. He also spearheaded negotiations with financial institutions and other central banks, to attract foreign investments into the Egyptian market. Aboul Naga led the discussions with credit rating agencies in their quest to determine Egypt’s credit profile. He was entrusted with the Egyptian foreign exchange market’s management to monitor its activities and further its development. Not only, but he was responsible for supervising the local money and capital markets, as well as developing their infrastructure to promote their efficiency. As Head of the Monetary Policy Implementation Unit, Aboul Naga managed the implementation of the monetary policy, mainly through modelling and forecasting future liquidity conditions in the Egyptian banking sector.

Aboul Naga played a pivotal role in the discussions with the IMF and the implementation of the homegrown reform programme. His years of managing the Domestic Foreign

Exchange market equipped him with the expertise to revamp the foreign exchange framework and successfully liberalise the foreign exchange regime. Previously, as Sub-Governor of the Markets sector, he headed the Reserves Management, Treasury, and the Monetary Policy Implementation divisions, as well as Quantitative Modelling and Risk Analytics division. In April 2018, his scope was widened to include supervising the Foreign Relations and Investment sector, which included the External Debt, Back Office and Settlement division, as well as the Strategic Contributions divisions. Aboul Naga has more than 18 years of experience in the banking sector. Prior to his time at the CBE, he worked in the Treasury department of the Commercial International Bank. He is a graduate of the American University in Cairo, with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and a minor in Economics, and holds a Master’s of Science degree in Finance from City University, UK. He received numerous training courses and certificates from various international institutions, such as the World Bank, the Federal Reserve Bank, and the German Bundesbank, among others. He also recently attended the Leadership and Change Management Executive Program at Yale University and the Executive Leadership Program at Harvard Business School. Aboul Naga has been selected in 2017, 2018, and 2019 for Choiseul 100 Africa, which, according to the independent think tank, “identifies young African leaders of 40 years old and below, who will play a major role in the continent’s economic development in the near future”.

Hossam Heiba, President, General Authority for Investment & Free Zones (GAFI)

Mr. Hossam Heiba is an experienced investment banker and direct investment professional with more than 32 years of experience of which 25 years management experience in setting up, managing, negotiating and enhancing direct investments in more than 15 different sectors and industries with international practice standards that involved undertaking different tasks that varied between managing investment companies and assuming operating roles, executing workable business plans, initiating and developing start up projects and companies in the various sectors and countries.

Mr. Heiba assumed several roles in various high profile companies and institutions such as Banking in Misr Iran Investment Bank, Management consultation in Coopers & Lybrand Management Consulting (currently PwC), Government Agencies in the Public Enterprise Office (PEO) - The Privatization Agency of Egypt, Direct investments & Asset Management in Al Ahly for Development & Investment (ADI), Venture Capital as CEO of Investia Venture Capital, Private Equity as Vice President of Egypt Kuwait Holding Co. (Al Kharafi Group) for Energy, Family Office as CIO in Energya Holding (DIFC), Advisory services as Managing Partner of Orbis Capital and Investment, Private Equity as Senior Partner in Beltone Private Equity as well as the Chief Investment Officer of ADI and the Fund Manager of both Bedaya SME Fund & Papyrus Tourism Fund, Non-banking Financial services as the CEO of Basata for SME & Microfinance.

During his years of experience, Mr. Heiba has restructured, solicited & raised finances, conducted equity and debt underwriting through introducing new strategic investors or IPO’s as well as provided investment consulting and advisory services, structuring and concluding corporate finance deals

through dealing with various financial institutions such as international banks, multilateral institutions, as well as the World Bank; in addition to multinational and regional firms serving in more than 20 various sectors. In addition to managing companies’ operations in ICT, F&B, NBFS, Power Generation, Direct Investment & VC Companies.

Mr. Heiba was represented as a director/Chairman in several boards of companies such as Post for Investment (PFI) as Vice Chairman & Head of Investment Committee, Holdi Pharma as member in board investment committee, Chairman of El Nasr for Chemical Pharmaceutical Industries, Egyptian Pharma Distribution & Trading Co, EMRC, in addition to previous representations in more than 36 companies operating in Natural Gas Distribution, Venture Capital, Packaging, Tourism, FMCG, Power Generation, District Cooling, Asset Management, F&B, Retail, Engineering Ind., Insurance, Food Ind.

Hossam attended several conferences, seminars and roundtables as guest speaker in Egypt and the region as well as being a anchor host for “Money Talks” radio live and podcast show on Cairo Business Radio in addition to being a guest in several TV business shows.

Hossam completed MBA courses in International Business from Maastricht School of Management – Netherlands in 2000 after gaining his BA in Economics from the American University in Cairo in 1988.

Patrick is a practiced consultant with over 15 years of experience helping mining companies, financial institutions and governments to foster development of stable and equitable mining sectors. He leads Wood Mackenzie’s Metals & Mining Consulting practice for the EMEA region from the company’s London office.

During his career in the metals and mining industry, he has held roles as a senior advisor to government officials on the topics of mining sector development and tax policy, leader of implementation and socialization of key government initiatives, advisor on geopolitical/sovereign risk wmitigation and in support of private-public negotiations for government and the private sector. His main focus has been in the areas of public policy development and investment attraction in projects with government clients in MENA and Latin America.

Prior to joining Wood Mackenzie, Patrick advised senior management of Rio Tinto’s Copper organization headquarters as part of its global business analysis and strategy team. He led projects and analyses in strategy and valuation in Mongolia, Australia, North America and Europe.

Michèle Dée is Regional Head at UK Export Finance (“UKEF”), the UK government export credit agency, where she leads on business development in Africa and North America. She joined UKEF in 2017 as Head of the Renewables and High Tech branch before moving to her current position in 2019. Before joining UKEF, Michèle spent two years as a Corporate Finance Advisor for the Business Energy and Infrastructure Department (BEIS), another government department. Prior to joining the civil service in 2015, Michèle had pursued a career in banking in London where she held project financier positions in CA-CIB, Lloyds and Barclays. She holds a master degree in management and finance from the University of Brussels.

the global energy industry. Before joining bp Anja was chief executive officer of RWE Renewables, one of the world’s leading renewables businesses with interests in onshore and offshore wind, solar and battery storage; and operations across Europe, the Americas and Asia-Pacific. From 2011 to 2019 she held a broad range of leadership roles in E.ON including chief executive officer of E.ON Climate & Renewables, the unit’s chief operating officer and chief commercial and development officer of E.ON‘s combined conventional and renewable power business. Prior to E.ON, Anja held a number of senior roles in management consultancy over 15 years, with a focus on energy and the industrial sector and spent four years in the energy and chemical industry.

Anja is an Honorary Consul of Norway; a member of the UK Government’s new Investment Council; and a member of the Senate of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft.

Anja- Isabel Dotzenrath is responsible for BP’s global gas and low carbon energy businesses.

Mr. Hisham Ezz Al-Arab is the Chairman of the Commercial International Bank (CIB) – Egypt. Prior to his appointment, Mr. Ezz Al-Arab served as an advisor to the Governor of the Central Bank of Egypt for three months.

In 2020, Mr. Ezz Al-Arab founded and chaired HE Advisory. With over 40 years of experience as an international banker across Europe, the Middle East and Africa, he advises corporations on growth strategies, resource mobilization and financial risk management. He also provides fundraising advice and strategic counseling to startup fintechs.

Mr. Ezz Al-Arab has been recognized by a number of global publications for his leadership

and the bank’s performance. He was named “Best CEO in Egypt and Africa” by EMEA Finance in 2014. In 2016, Euromoney recognized his “Outstanding Contribution to Financial Services in the Middle East” CIB was awarded Euromoney’s “Best Bank in Global Emerging Markets”, the first bank in Egypt and MENA to receive this award. CIB was named “Best Emerging Markets Bank” by Global Finance in Both 2018 and 2020. Under his leadership, CIB was the first bank in Egypt to issue a sustainability report and become a signatory for the United Nations Environment Program Financial Initiatives: Principles for Responsible Banking.

Mr. Ezz El-Arab is a member of the Institute of International Finance (IIF) in Washington, a member of the Emerging Markets Advisory Council (EMAC), a board member of Ripplewood

Advisors MENA and a board member of Smart Africa. He is also the former Chairman of the Federation of Egyptian Banks, a former Board Member of the American University in Cairo and a former Board Member of Fairfax Africa.

Before joining CIB in 1999, Mr. Ezz Al-Arab worked at Merrill Lynch, J.P. Morgan and Deutsche Bank in London and the Middle East.

Hisham Ezz Al-Arab, Chairman, Commercial International Bank – Egypt (CIB)

Mohamed Fouad has played a great role in leading the industry to share knowledge and discuss important topics through his communication channels. In this, he has been aided by a vast knowledge and deep understanding of the industry.

Mohamed is the Founder and CEO of Egypt Oil & Gas information services since 2006. It’s a platform, which was created by him and

his team to become the leading information provider for the industry. He has seen the highs and lows our industry has faced —- and has embraced it always.

His propelling contribution to the petroleum sector started right after acquiring his Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering in 1999. Fouad launched his career working at the West Africa Oil Services from 2000 to 2002. He occupied the position of Vice President for Sales and Market at Oil and Gas North Africa from 2002 to 2004, subsequently founding Petroleum Africa.

In his current post at Egypt Oil & Gas group, Mohamed Fouad created the Egypt Oil & Gas Committee, building to build strong ties with the Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum and prominent figures in the sector to provide ample insights for the industry’s progress.

In 2023, Fouad was appointed as a Board Member and Secretary General of the Egyptian Gas Association (EGA) and Chairman of the International Gas Union’s Communication and Marketing Committee.

Mohamed Fouad is a true leader and entrepreneur —he demonstrates his passion every day as he is always looking at the need of an industry and building opportunities for those in his sphere of influence.

He is a powerful force in the workplace and uses her positive attitude and tireless energy to encourage others to work hard and succeed.

Mr. Sherif Hamouda is an Egyptian businessman, who earned his bachelor degree in law. Then followed his passion and pursued knowledge in the area of business and economics and started his career in the mid-nineties in supply chain, contracting, and animal farming till 2004 when he started expanding in Africa and Europe.

Hamouda founded his first business company 1994 and then, with his partners incorporated several companies spanning different industries that include and are not limited to General Contracting, Specialized Contracting, Real Estate development and construction, F&B factories and mega projects in green investment like: medical waste, waste management and, waste heat recovery.

Sherif Hamouda, Chairman GV Group

Dr. Heike Harmgart is the Managing Director for the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean (SEMED) region at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). Based in Cairo, Dr Harmgart is responsible for the formulation and delivery of EBRD’s strategy and business plan for the SEMED region currently including Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, Tunisia, Lebanon and West Bank and Gaza. She manages a team of 150 staff with an annual business volume of over € 2 billion.

A German national, Dr Harmgart joined the EBRD in 2006 as an economist. In 2013 she became EBRD’s first Head of Office in Jordan, based in Amman. She was appointed Director for the Eastern Mediterranean after EBRD expanded under her local leadership into Lebanon and West Bank and Gaza in 2017. Dr Harmgart serves as a member of the World Economic Forum’s Global Future Council on the New Agenda for Fragility and Resilience.

She has been selected by Forbes Middle East in 2022 as one of the 100 most powerful women in business in the Middle East. Prior to joining EBRD she worked for the Economist Intelligence Unit and the Institute for Fiscal Studies. She holds a PhD in Economics from University College London.

Martin is a qualified mining engineer with over 28 years of experience in the mining sector. He has worked across numerous areas of the industry, combining technical and operational expertise with strategic and commercial acumen. Importantly, throughout Martin’s career he has demonstrated a longstanding commitment to environmental and social responsibility as the basis of achieving a sustainable and successful mining business, which is a central tenet to Centamin’s decision-making framework and corporate strategy.

Before joining Centamin in April 2020, from 2009 to 2019, Martin was the CEO and Co-Founder of Toro Gold, where he oversaw the discovery, development and operation of the Mako Gold Mine in Senegal before it was acquired by LSE and ASX listed Resolute Mining in August 2019. Prior Martin was Executive Director of BDI Mining, an AIM listed diamond producer, and from 2000 to 2006 he worked in mining finance at Barclays Capital in London, where his responsibilities included technical appraisal and advisory services across Africa and the Middle East. He also held consulting engineer roles with SRK Ltd and started his career as a mining engineer with Gold Fields of South Africa.

George Kanaan has been Chief Executive Officer and Director of the Arab Bankers Association in London since August 2009. The association serves through its events and publications as a focus for Arab bankers in London, Europe and throughout the Arab World. Mr. Kanaan has been involved in banking and finance for most of his professional carrier and served in many capacities with Citibank and First Chicago. In London, he created and managed The Saudi American Bank branch and an investment company, SCMI, that was associated with it. Mr. Kanaan studied at the American University of Beirut, Carnegie- Mellon university, the University of Bridgeport and the Harvard Business School. He holds degrees in Engineering and Business Administration. He has written extensively on banking and finance and serves on the board of a number of Financial and Industrial companies.

George Kanaan, CEO, Arab Bankers Association

Judith has over thirty years’ experience in the mining and metals sectors. She is Senior Independent Director of BlackRock World Mining Trust and a Non-Executive director and Chair of the Sustainability Committees of Eldorado Gold and Galiano Gold. She also sits on the Board of Women in Mining UK and is a Trustee of the Camborne School of Mines She headed the mining finance team of Société Générale until 2011 and acted as Business Development Director for mining and metals for Rand Merchant Bank in London until the end of 2019. Her experience ranges from project finance for junior miners through to funding multinationals as well as trade and working capital finance, commodity hedging and corporate finance.

Judith holds an MA from the University of Oxford and a postgraduate Diploma in Business Administration from the University of Warwick. She is currently completing a Master of Studies in Sustainability Leadership Cambridge University.

Nathan is an exploration geophysicist with over 15 years’ experience. He heads Barrick exploration in the Africa MiddleEast region, leading a very active exploration team distributed across 8 countries.

Prior to his current role he held the position of Senior Generative Geoscientist providing guidance and mentorship on a wide range of exploration subjects beyond his core Geophysical contributions. In this role Nathan was instrumental in developing and implementing the Africa and Middle East exploration strategy.

He has a breadth of experience in African Tier-1 gold and copper terranes having worked on projects throughout the continent since joining Randgold Resources in 2009 which subsequently merged with Barrick in 2019.

After working in Latin America, Mr. Nosseir returned to Egypt to assume several capacities in Alkan; starting 1989 when he created Alkan’s fast moving consumer goods business, which included exclusive manufacturing and distribution of international leading brands of carbonated soft drinks and cigarettes, and which was divested in 1997. In 1993 he created the pharmaceutical business line of Alkan which under his tenure expanded to include two of Egypt’s fastest growing manufacturing joint ventures besides expanding Alkan’s activities in the healthcare sector until he divested it in 2009.
