The Shibuya pedestrian scramble is Tokyo’s answer to New York’s Time Square intersection. Synonymous with the image of Tokyo, the rush of the maddening crowd streaming in from all directions, the blare of commercials on giant plasma screens and the buzz of random fringe events going on never fails to bring about a sense of awe.
Featured in countless movies, “doing the Shibuya scramble” is on the “to do” list for almost every Tokyo tourist. But Shibuya is more than just a crossing – for some it is a crossroad in their lives. WAttention spoke to three people who live and breathe Shibuya and asked them for their Shibuya story.

Shibuya is similar to Shinjuku and Ikebukuro in the sense that it has a bit (or more) of almost everything, but is more focused on some areas such as clubs, party-culture and all things hip and happening. Even though Shinjuku is the most well-connected terminal station overall, Shibuya is the true center in the sense that it is the terminal that is the nearest to more of the "rich" or "stylish" and popular hubs such as Omotesando, Harajuku, Nakameguro, Daikanyama, Ebisu, Shimokitazawa, Roppongi and Ginza. In that sense I think Shibuya is the true "center" of Tokyo.

It's been 2 years since I moved to Shibuya. It's where I started living by myself for the first time. No matter your ethnicity, culture, or fashion style, this district will take you in. Shibuya has played a significant role in my life. As a college student, I was working here part-time at SHIPS, a leading fashion boutique. While satisfying my student stomach with bacon-egg curry together with my co-workers at Mobomoga (my favorite restaurant in town), I dreamed of one day influencing Shibuya’s ever-changing fashion scene with new ideas. Now, 13 years later, I feel a great sense of accomplishment whenever I see someone in the masses at Shibuya’s scramble intersection wearing an item I selected and introduced to the city. I am living the Shibuya life of my dreams!

■ A collaboration between HOOTERS and NAMCO @ HOOTERS SHIBUYA Florida-based chain restaurant HOOTERS, famous for its buffalo wings and HOOTER Girls (waitresses in sexy outfits) opened its new interactive sports bar GAMING BAR SIDE-B at its Shibuya branch on Dec 18 last year. This entertainment zone was made possible through a collaboration with Japanese video game and entertainment giant, NAMCO, the company famous for iconic video game franchises as Pac-Man and Tekken. With a New York downtown style, you can watch sports matches or dancing Hooter Girls over a beer and buffalo wings here, as well as play table football and arcade basketball.

Famed for their melt-in-your-mouth cheese tarts, Osakabased Pablo opened their first café in the Tokyo area this past Dec 12. Pick up their classic cheese treats on the 1st floor, or dine at the fashionable 2nd floor café. The expanded café menu includes Honey Cheese Toast, Sweet Cheese Fondue, and their limited item Baked Mini Cheese Tart Camembert x Quattro Fromage – available only at this location!
This winter, prison-themed restaurant offers a new super spicy nabe (hot pot) menu from hell for their fearless guests. Brave enough to try its burning hot soup that uses so many chili peppers that it looks like a bloodbath? Meticulously decorated like the setting of a horror movie, even the staff is waiting to torture you!
The newest faces in town are these yummy Australian savory pies. They come in more than 10 varieties, each with a face meant to resemble the flavor. Since opening on Nov 19 last year at SHIBUYA MODI, these pies have been selling like hot cakes!
