REGISTRATION Registration Information Registration will open August 15 for all activities unless otherwise noted.

Payment is required at the time of registration. The most popular registration method is online via Waukee.org/registration. However, a printable registration form can be found at Waukee.org/printform. It can be mailed with payment or dropped off to Waukee Parks & Recreation at: 805 University Avenue, Waukee, IA 50263. Printed forms are also available in person at the Parks & Recreation Office.

FAQs – Frequently Asked Questions What is your cancellation policy?

Programs, activities, special events and festivals that are canceled, postponed or changed in location will be announced as soon as possible.

Please check Facebook, Twitter or Waukee.org for updates. We reserve the right to cancel a program or an activity that does not meet the minimum number of participants necessary to offer the program.

What is your program refund policy?

Refund requests must be made ONE WEEK prior to the first day of the program or prior to rosters being made for leagues. A $5 nonrefundable handling fee will be deducted from the refund when an enrollee withdraws ONE WEEK prior to the first day of the program.

Once the ONE WEEK deadline passes or rosters are formed, refunds will not be issued. For trip refund information, please refer to page 21.

What is your facility rental refund policy?

Facility rental refunds may be issued for reservations only when cancellations are made 10 business days prior to the date of reservation.

There will be a $5 cancellation fee for any shelter or pavilion refund.

Community Center cancellations later than 10 business days prior will result in forfeiture of the rental payment.

What is your photo/video policy?

Photos/videos taken of participants and guests in programs, activities, special events and festivals may be used in promotional materials, press releases, and on the City of Waukee’s website and social media channels.

Special Event Application The City of Waukee and the Parks & Recreation Department can assist you in hosting a special event in one of our City parks! Please visit Waukee.org/specialeventsapp to fill out the online application to get started. Applications are required for the use of public and/ or park property.

Plant Some Shade™ Waukee partners with MidAmerican Energy and the Iowa DNR to offer the Plant Some Shade™ program. The program allows MidAmerican Energy Company residential customers in Iowa to purchase up to two trees for just $30 each, with the remaining cost funded through a grant from MidAmerican Energy. Waukee is one of only 12 communities in Iowa to provide this service, and any MidAmerican Energy customer can participate. Order your trees by visiting Waukee.org/plantsomeshade.

Warrior Park Sledding Hill

1050 4th Street Get out and play! Waukee has a customized, engineered sledding hill at Warrior Park guaranteed to make any snow day the greatest day ever.

Outdoor Ice Rink

1255 Warrior Lane Waukee’s Outdoor Ice Rink is located in the southeast corner of Centennial Park during the winter months. This public ice rink measures 80 x 40 feet and was donated by the Iowa Wild and Wells Fargo. When weather permits, the rink is open daily for hockey from dawn to noon, and open skating hours are from noon to dusk. For information about the rules and opening date, visit Waukee.org/parksandrec. Follow the Parks & Rec Facebook page for daily rink updates. Bring your skates, and enjoy this free outdoor activity!

FamilyFest Join Waukee Parks & Recreation for the annual FamilyFest! This free, family-friendly event will help the kiddos burn off some cabin fever energy. YOUTH SPORTS Youth Basketball League Enjoy this introductory basketball league with practice, drills, and scrimmage during week one. Weeks two through six will include practice and warm-up time before playing scheduled games. The goal of this league is to teach young participants the basic skills and rules of basketball as well as sportsmanship. Teams will be formed at random. Both boys and girls are welcome to participate.

2019 Girls Recreational Softball League Waukee Parks & Recreation offers a recreational girls softball league, and girls from K-7th grade are eligible to play. Participants are separated into five leagues. The season will run from mid-April through early June. Online registration begins December 1, 2018 and ends February 18, 2019. Register participants for the grade they are in for the 2018-2019 school year. Please call 515-978-0007 with questions.

ADULT SPORTS & FITNESS Adult Coed Indoor Volleyball League Enjoy indoor coed volleyball on Sunday afternoons at Waukee Middle School. There will be a B-league (more competitive) and a C-league (less competitive). Regular league play runs for 10 weeks with a season-ending tournament. Bring your children, and take advantage of the on-site babysitting service for $2 per child.

YOUTH CAMPS & ACTIVITIES Tot Lot Romp, stomp and play! We have the set-up to meet your children’s activity and social needs this fall and winter. With toddler toys ranging from blocks to tunnels and mats, there’s no shortage of action here. We provide the fun. Parents provide the supervision in this open gym for toddlers where kids love to play and parents get to socialize with one another. This is a non-structured activity.

Tot Lot will be cancelled when Waukee Schools are delayed and/ or if there is inclement weather. Tot Lot will be closed 11/12, 12/24 and 2/18, but will be open the week of Spring Break.

Tumbling Tots & Tumbling Tots 2 This 30-minute program is designed for little gymnasts to learn and increase their basic tumbling motions in a group environment. It emphasizes balance and coordination through basic tumbling moves, exercises and songs. The child must be of the required age prior to the start of the session. An adult is required to participate with the participant(s) during the 2-3 year-old session.

Red Cross Babysitting Training Attend the American Red Cross Babysitting Certification class and gain life experience by practicing lifesaving babysitting skills on manikins and with other participants. This is a great class for girls and boys getting ready to start babysitting on their own or for those who will be in charge of younger siblings for short periods of time. Participants must be 11 years old and need to bring a sack lunch. Each participant will receive a Babysitter’s Training Handbook and a starter kit.

YOUTH CAMPS & ACTIVITIES Studio Bea Dance Studio Bea Dance offers a variety of classes in group, private and semi-private settings to dancers of all ages and skill levels. The studio offers recreational and competitive classes,and not only focuses on dance training, but is also committed to developing character and life skills. Studio Bea offers a welcoming environment where everyone is family.

2 to Move This 30-minute class is designed for parents and their little dancers to bond while having fun in an introductory dance class environment.

Dancers will gain confidence and will improve social and gross motor skills while using their imaginations to learn and explore dance and movement. Children ages 18 months through 3 years old are invited to register. An adult is required to participate with the dancer(s).

Engineering for Kids Junior Robotics

This class is a perfect mixture of fun and learning, using LEGO® WeDo™ Robots. Using LEGO bricks, students build a dancing bird, a smart spinner and a drumming monkey. They also learn how to program and operate their creations using a laptop computer.

Robotics 101 with Mindstorm EV3

Students will learn the basics about LEGO® Mindstorm EV3 robotics.

Robotics 101 offers hands-on, minds-on robotics curriculum that will engage students as they construct authentic, open-minded designs that work independent of computer programming.

Rounded Minds Spanish Language Introduction Rounded Minds™ offers unique programming focused on building strong bodies and minds while providing benefits of learning a second language at an early age. Every Rounded Minds class is designed and led by attentive experts committed to providing safe, energetic, creative and fun educational experiences. Our programs offer children experiences in sports without the threat of competition. Basic skills and fun games will reinforce listening, teamwork and the joy of being active. The format for all Rounded Minds programming is high-energy! Children experience the joy of learning new skills by “doing” and through fun games, songs and positive reinforcement. They will be learning Spanish while having fun! This will provide participants with an advantage in their future education. Learn more at roundedminds.com

Soccer Children learn fundamental soccer principles, such as foot work, dribbling, passing, ball control and shooting by using creative games, positive reinforcement and even songs. Kids enjoy fun drills and games with a ball always at their feet; there are no competitive games.

They will have hundreds of touches on the ball each class which will help them to increase their ball control and accuracy. This program is perfect to introduce the sport to kids and give the skills to enjoy the game and be successful when they join a competitive team. Children will learn the basic rules of the game while practicing sportsmanship and teamwork. The curriculum is designed by Raul Cuñarro, founder of Rounded Minds, professional soccer coach from Spain, currently working at the Des Moines Menace.

Zumba The developmental Zumba kids program focuses on motor development and fitness while allowing children to express themselves through creative movement. It provides opportunities for teaching moments, and they will learn words and expressions in Spanish naturally. This fun class emphasizes getting kids moving while introducing them to basic salsa, modern dance and Latin dances.

Art Classes in the art program help children develop new artistic skills and craftsmanship while creating unique masterpieces using a wide range of quality materials. Sports Exploration This five-week program is a great way for children to experience a variety of new games and activities in a format that is structured, engaging and most of all... FUN! YOUTH CAMPS & ACTIVITIES Sunflower Fine Art Children will learn the basic concepts of drawing three-dimensional objects on two-dimensional paper. Concentrate on basic shapes including cubes, spheres and cones at the beginning. Eventually the students will learn to draw still life objects based on a step-by-step process. The classes will help to improve patience, observation and creativity.

Teams of Tomorrow Creative Basketball Ball Handling & Dribbling TOT is a creative ball handling and dribbling program for 3-5 year-olds! We use music, academic enrichment and basketballs to improve physical and mental growth. We take a basket out of basketball and focus on individual accomplishments.

Dickey’s Ryukyu Karate (Jiu Jitsu) Little Ninjas & Karate

This early childhood program teaches the basic fundamentals of taekwondo and karate in a developmentally appropriate format to suit young children. The class will focus on building proper use of martial arts, self-respect, self-discipline and coordination of mind and body. The instructor Dickey Renshi has taught martial arts for more than 30 years and is an early childhood elementary school teacher. He is also a three-time inductee into the Martial Arts Hall of Fame.

SPECIAL NEEDS ACTIVITIES Courage League Sports Courage League Sports is an adaptive sports and recreational program for children and adults with special needs - including physical, cognitive, social and emotional challenges. Located in Urbandale and offering year-round programming Monday through Saturday, Courage League Sports provides opportunities for every age group.

Cubs: 2-6 yrs.

Activities are designed to match the energy level of preschoolers.

The use of interactive technology, upbeat rhythmic music and basic tumbling activities are built to meet the needs of your child.

Classes are offered Monday-Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings.

Tigers: 7-10 yrs.

New programs are built for younger school-age participants’ abilities by incorporating fun and social development, with core, balance and upper body development. Classes are offered Monday-Thursday evenings and Saturdays.

Lions: 11-14 yrs. & Panthers: 15-19 yrs.

Programming is adapted to match developing bodies and social skills. Enjoy the sport/field game league, rock band classes, karaoke, cycling and more. Classes are offered Monday-Thursday evenings and Saturdays.

Active Adults in Action Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is equally important as developing a healthy lifestyle in the formative years. These programs grow with participants and their abilities from sitting to standing. Classes are daily 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and evenings.

Adaptive Sports Iowa The Iowa Sports Foundation is the parent organization to Adaptive Sports Iowa. Its mission is to provide sports, recreation, health and wellness opportunities for Iowans of all abilities. The Iowa Sports Foundation is comprised of the Iowa Games, Live Healthy Iowa, Adaptive Sports Iowa and the Iowa Senior Games.

Adaptive Sports Iowa’s (ASI) mission is to bring a higher quality of life to physically disabled athletes through fun, excitement and exercise.

Through a variety of opportunities, ASI is continuously working to provide statewide leadership in the planning, promotion, education and organization of sports and recreational activities for Iowans with physical disabilities.

POWs in Iowa During World War II November 2 Approximately 30,000 German, Italian and Japanese prisoners of war spent part of the war in Iowa. They were captured enemy soldiers who were brought to the cornfields of Iowa to work at farms, canning factories, hemp mills or seed corn companies. Learn about the two main camps in Iowa, Algona and Clarinda, as well as the 17 branch camps also utilized.

Loess Hills Day Trip The Loess Hills are shaped by nature; these majestic hills are the hallmark of a road trip in Western Iowa. Formed by deposits of fine windblown soil at the end of the ice age, these are not your average hills. While the lavender is still blooming, smell, see, pick and taste this delectable plant during a lunch stop. Then a step-onguide will take you through parts of the Loess Hills. Visit the DeSoto Wildlife Refuge where the Steamboat Bertrand Collection is on display. A trip to an orchard and a stop at the Manning Hausbarn are also on the agenda. The fee includes transportation, lunch, all admissions and gratuities.

Minnesota Vikings vs. Detroit Lions Road Trip We’re heading back to U.S. Bank Stadium to see the Minnesota Vikings take on the Detroit Lions! Ride along to Minneapolis on Sunday, Nov. 4 to watch the inner conference rivalry. Seating will be in the corner end zone, level 305. Game time is noon*; the charter bus will depart early Sunday morning around 6 a.m. There will be one stop for restrooms and food each way, and travelers are welcome to bring food and beverages on the bus. Children are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult. The fee includes transportation, parking and a ticket to the game. Registration will open online Monday, Aug. 27 at 8 a.m. Spots will be filled on a firstcome, first-served basis.

SUGAR CREEK MUNICIPAL GOLF COURSE 1505 6th Street • Clubhouse: 515-987-5247 The Parks & Recreation Department maintains Sugar Creek Municipal Golf Course – a beautiful 9-hole, Par 34 golf course that is typically open mid-March through mid-November, weather permitting. The course is great for beginners while providing a challenge for seasoned golfers. The practice facilities include a driving range, putting green and chipping area. CITY OF WAUKEE FACILITY RENTAL POLICIES Waukee Community Center Reservations can be made up to one year in advance of the reservation date. Reservations are confirmed when completed form and deposit are returned to the Parks & Recreation Department. Payment for the Center needs to be received at least one week prior to the reserved date.

Ridge Pointe Pavilion, Centennial Enclosed and Open Shelters, and Windfield Shelter These facilities are rented April 1 through mid-October with the exception of Ridge Pointe Pavilion which is rented year-round.

Reservations can be made up to180 days in advance of the desired reservation date. Reservations are confirmed when payment and deposit are received by the Parks & Recreation Department. Keys for enclosed facilities can be picked up the week of the reservation.

Ridge Pointe Pavilion

655 SE Legacy Pointe Boulevard The Ridge Pointe Pavilion sits on a 21-acre park and has a covered concrete patio overlooking the park. Inside the 660 square-foot pavilion is a refrigerator, sink and microwave along with restrooms that are shared with park users. The Pavilion has six round tables and two rectangular tables. Those tables will seat 48, and there is additional seating on the patio. The Pavilion features two charcoal grills. Winter reservations are welcome as the Pavilion is heated for winter months. The Pavilion is ideal for graduation parties or small celebrations. This is an all-day rental from 8 a.m.-10 p.m.

Centennial Park Enclosed Shelter 1255 Warrior Lane

The enclosed shelter is located on the southwest corner of Centennial Park with a playground and restrooms nearby. The shelter has a small deck overlooking the park and a charcoal grilling area. Inside the shelter are 12 picnic tables. The shelter does not have heating or air-conditioning and is only available to rent April 1-October 10. This is an all-day rental from 8 a.m.-10 p.m.

Centennial Park Open Air Shelter 1255 Warrior Lane

The open air shelter is in the heart of Centennial Park and is surrounded by an open grass area, a disc golf course, ball fields, playgrounds and restrooms. The shelter has 11 picnic tables and two charcoal grills. This shelter is available to rent April 1-October 31. This is an all-day rental from 8 a.m.-10 p.m.

Windfield Park Open Air Shelter 114 Windfield Parkway

The Windfield Open Air Shelter is located in Windfield neighborhood abutting the Heart of the Warrior Trail. The park features age appropriate play areas, a full basketball court and a new backstop for baseball and softball. The shelter houses four picnic tables, a bike rack, 13 parking spots and a unisex enclosed restroom. This shelter is available to rent April 1-October 31. This is an all-day rental from 8 a.m.-10 p.m. Maximum capacity for this shelter is 25 people.

PARKS Centennial Park 1255 Warrior Lane

Centennial Park offers a wide range of recreational opportunities.

The 33-acre park is equipped with two sand volleyball courts, three ball diamonds, a 12-hole disc golf course, three playgrounds, one basketball court, a newly re-shaped Sugar Creek, a covered bridge, a Little Free Library, one open shelter and one enclosed shelter. There is plenty of open greenspace for playing soccer or enjoying a picnic with your family. Centennial Park has it all!

Fox Creek Park

522 NE Westgate Drive Fox Creek Park is Waukee’s newest and third largest park. Phase 1 of construction was completed in the fall of 2016. Within the park, there are two acres of prairie plantings to help the Monarch population increase and trails totaling 3/4 of a mile in length.

The trails connect Grant Ragan Elementary to the surrounding neighborhoods. Future phases for the park feature the additions of a recirculating splash pad, shelter, parking lot, a tennis court, pickleball courts and more.

G.E. Davis Park

Walnut and 7th Street G.E. Davis Park sits in front of the Waukee Community Center and honors George Edward Davis. Davis served as the mayor of the City of Waukee for 30 years. Most recently the Waukee Leadership Institute’s Veterans memorial monuments were added. A bench and a flowerbed were constructed by a local Eagle Scout and a Little Free Library was donated by the Waukee United Methodist Congregation.

Grant Park

605 SE Driftwood Lane Grant Park is a one-and-a-half-acre neighborhood park that was remodeled during the summer of 2015. The remodeled park includes restrooms, walking paths, new playground equipment, a half-court basketball area and a Little Free Library.

Historic Downtown Triangle Park Ashworth Drive and 6th Street

Triangle Park is a half-acre park nestled in the heart of the Historic Downtown Triangle District, featuring a large gazebo, a Little Free Library and many nearby businesses. It serves as host to many community events throughout the year.

Ridge Pointe Park

Waukee Dog Park and Trailhead The passage of the Dallas County Local Option Sales & Service Tax is bringing in new revenue for the City of Waukee, and with it… new park projects!

First up, construction on the Waukee Dog Park and Trailhead project is now underway with a target open date of spring 2019. The four-acre site is located east of Alice’s Road and south of the Heart of the Warrior Trail. The Dog Park will include public restrooms, parking, separated large/small dog areas, a drinking fountain, dog waste stations, a shade structure, concrete walking paths and greenspaces. It will also feature a trail connection and bike racks. The anticipated cost for the park construction and trail amenity improvements is $640,000. Rules and regulations are still being determined; however, all dogs will need to be licensed with the City prior to park entry. A separate park pass may also be required, and the City is considering terms of use for non-residents.
