PROGRAM REGISTRATION Registration will open Aug. 15 for all activities unless otherwise noted. Payment is required at the time of registration. The most popular registration method is online via www.Waukee.org/registration. However, a printable registration form can be found at Waukee.org/printform. It can be mailed with payment or dropped off to Waukee Parks & Recreation at: 805 University Avenue, Waukee, IA 50263. Printed forms are also available in person at the Parks & Recreation Office.

FAQs

What is your cancellation policy?

Programs, activities, special events and festivals which are cancelled, postponed or changed in location will be announced as soon as possible. Please check Facebook, Twitter or www.Waukee.org for updates. We reserve the right to cancel a program or an activity that does not meet the minimum number of participants necessary to offer the program.

What is your program refund policy?

Refund requests must be made ONE WEEK prior to the first day of the program or prior to rosters being made for leagues. A $5 non-refundable handling fee will be deducted from the refund when an enrollee withdraws ONE WEEK prior to the first day of the program. Once the ONE WEEK deadline passes or rosters are formed, refunds will not be issued. For trip refund information, please refer to page 15.

What is your facility rental refund policy?

Facility rental refunds may be issued for reservations only when cancellations are made 10 business days prior to the date of reservation. There will be a $5 cancellation fee for any rental facility refund. Cancellations later than 10 business days prior to the date of the reservation will result in forfeiture of the rental payment.

What is your photo/video policy?

Photos/videos taken of participants and guests in programs, activities, special events and festivals may be used in promotional materials, press releases, and on the City of Waukee’s website and social media channels.

Special Event Application The City of Waukee and the Parks & Recreation Department can assist you in hosting a special event in City parks! Please visit www.Waukee.org/specialeventsapp to fill out the online application. Applications are required for the use of public and/or park property.

Waukee Canopy New this year, the Parks & Recreation Department is running its own tree program called Waukee Canopy. WAUKEE RESIDENTS can order up to two low-cost trees through this program. There will be seven species from which to choose. The department will take orders beginning Aug. 15 and ending when trees are sold out. Order your trees online at www.Waukee.org/registration. Haunted House The Waukee Park Board sponsors an annual haunted house. Enter if you dare, but be prepared to be scared. This haunted house is not suggested for young children. Dates

Beggars’ Night Waukee’s Beggars’ Night will be held Wednesday, Oct. 30 from 6-8 p.m. throughout the community.

Letters from Santa Because Santa Claus is so busy this time of year, he asked the Waukee Parks & Recreation Department to help put all the kids of Waukee on his Christmas Wish List. To receive a personalized letter from Santa, please visit www.Waukee.org/registration between Nov. 1 and 21. The cost is $5 per child.

WinterFest Join Santa and Waukee Mayor Bill Peard as they light the tree in Triangle Park at 6 p.m. SHARP. Visit with Santa in person at the Community Center afterward while warming up with hot chocolate and cookies. Join the Waukee Downtown Businesses for open houses and a scavenger hunt. Attendees are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item or a new, unwrapped toy to help support Waukee Area Christian Services.

Warrior Park Sledding Hill

1050 4th Street Get out and play! Waukee has a customized, engineered sledding hill at Warrior Park guaranteed to make any snow day the greatest day ever. Bundle up, and have some winter fun.

Outdoor Ice Rink

1255 Warrior Lane Waukee’s Outdoor Ice Rink is located in the southeast corner of Centennial Park during the winter months. This public ice rink measures 80 x 40 feet and was donated by the Iowa Wild and Wells Fargo. When weather permits, the free amenity is open daily for hockey from dawn to noon, and open skating hours are from noon to dusk. FamilyFest Join Waukee Parks & Recreation for the annual FamilyFest! This free, family-friendly event will help kiddos burn off some cabin fever energy. YOUTH SPORTS

Youth Basketball League Enjoy this introductory basketball league with practice, drills, and a scrimmage during week one. Weeks two through six will include practice and warm-up time before playing scheduled games. The goal of this league is to teach young participants the basic skills and rules of basketball as well as sportsmanship. Teams will be formed at random. Both boys and girls are welcome to participate. Volunteer coaches are needed! Saturdays

Iowa Wolves/Minnesota Timberwolves Waukee Parks & Recreation has partnered with the Iowa Wolves and the Minnesota Timberwolves! This partnership will allow the youth of Waukee to participate in a pregame clinic put on by the Minnesota Timberwolves Basketball Academy at Wells Fargo Arena! The exact date will be released later; look for an announcement from Waukee Parks & Recreation on the details of the clinic. Go Wolves!

2020 Girls Recreational Softball League Waukee Parks & Recreation offers a recreational girls softball league, and girls from K-7th grade are eligible to play. Participants are separated into five leagues. The season will run from mid-April through early June. Online registration begins Dec. 1, 2019 and ends Feb. 17, 2020. Register participants for the grade they are in for the 2019-2020 school year. NOTE: Players are required to provide their own helmet and ball glove. Volunteer coaches are needed!

ADULT SPORTS & FITNESS

Adult Coed Indoor Volleyball League Enjoy coed indoor volleyball on Sunday afternoons at Waukee Middle School. There will be a B-league (more competitive) and a C-league (less competitive). Regular league play runs for 10 weeks with a season-ending tournament. Bring the kids, and take advantage of the on-site babysitting service for $2 per child. Sundays

Yoga in the Park

September 14 & 28 Join local, certified yoga instructors for Yoga in the Park this fall! Bring a yoga mat or towel to Windfield Park on the second and fourth Saturdays of September. Yoga sessions will take place from 8-9 a.m. This program is recommended for anyone 8 years and older. The cost is $2 per person. YOUTH CAMPS & ACTIVITIES Tot Lot

Romp, stomp and play! With toddler toys ranging from blocks to tunnels and mats, there’s no shortage of action to keep the littles busy during the fall and winter months. Parents provide the supervision in this open gym for toddlers where kids love to play and parents get to socialize with one another. This is a nonstructured activity. Tot Lot will be cancelled when Waukee Schools are delayed and/or if there is inclement weather. Tot Lot will be closed Dec. 24, 25 and 31 as well as Jan. 1, but will be open during the week of Spring Break. Dates

Tumbling Tots & Tumbling Tots 2 This 30-minute program is designed for little gymnasts to learn and increase their basic tumbling motions in a group environment. It emphasizes balance and coordination through basic tumbling moves, exercises and songs. Children must be of the required age prior to the start of the session. A parent or guardian must accompany the 2- and 3-year-olds. Dates

Red Cross Babysitting Training Attend the American Red Cross Babysitting Certification class to gain experience by practicing life-saving babysitting skills on manikins and with other participants. This is a great class for kids getting ready to start babysitting on their own or for those who will be in charge of younger siblings for short periods of time. Participants must be 11 years old and will need to bring a sack lunch. Each participant will receive a Babysitter’s Training Handbook and a starter kit.

Art-rageous Adventures in Fort Dodge Day Trip Journey alongside the Des Moines River enjoying all the art, culture and food of Fort Dodge! View superb art displays at Iowa’s first permanent art museum – the Blanden Art Museum, and make your own art at Studio Fusion. Lunch will be held at the upscale, yet friendly restaurant Tea Thyme. In the afternoon, participants will visit a 110-foot grain silo which was turned into a massive mural by Australian-born artist Guido van Helten as well as the Community Orchard where a tour, shopping and warm apple pie await. The fee includes transportation, lunch and art-making supplies (upgrades available). Date

Minnesota Vikings vs. Detroit Lions Road Trip The bus is heading back to U.S. Bank Stadium to see the Minnesota Vikings take on the Detroit Lions. Ride along to Minneapolis on Sunday, Dec. 8 to watch the inner conference rivalry. Seating will be in the corner end zone, level 319. Game time is noon*; the charter bus will depart early Sunday morning around 6 a.m. There will be one stop for restrooms and food each way, and travelers are welcome to bring food and beverages on the bus. Children are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult. The fee includes transportation, parking and a ticket to the game. Registration will open online Monday, Aug. 26 at 8 a.m. Spots will be filled on a firstcome, first-served basis.

Dickey’s Ryukyu: Little Ninjas and Karate Kids will learn the basic fundamentals of taekwondo and karate in a developmentally-appropriate format. Classes focus on the proper use of martial arts, selfrespect, self-discipline and coordination of mind and body. The instructor Dickey Renshi has more than 35 years of martial arts teaching experience. He is an elementary teacher and three-time inductee into the Martial Arts Hall of Fame.

Studio Bea Dance: 2 to Move Studio Bea Dance’s 30-minute introductory class is designed for parents and their little dancer to bond and have fun. Dancers will gain confidence, and improve social and gross motor skills, all while using their imagination to learn and explore dance and movement. Children ages 18 months through 3 years old are invited to register for this program.

Sunflower Fine Art Sunflower Fine Art studio is owned by professional artist Tingting S. Beck. Her art has been honored at various professional art competitions, and she has taught art classes for nearly a decade. Children will learn the basic concepts of drawing three-dimensional objects on two-dimensional paper, and then will move on to drawing still life objects. Adult classes focus on basic sketching, still life and color painting.

SUGAR CREEK MUNICIPAL GOLF COURSE 1505 6th Street Clubhouse: 515-987-5247 The Waukee Parks & Recreation Department maintains Sugar Creek Municipal Golf Course – a beautiful 9-hole, Par 34 golf course that is typically open mid-March through mid-November, weather permitting. The course is great for beginners while providing a challenge for seasoned golfers. The practice facilities include a driving range, putting green and chipping area. FACILITY RENTALS Waukee Community Center, Ridge Pointe Pavilion & Fox Creek Pavilion Reservations for these year-round facilities can be made 180 days in advance of the desired reservation date. Online reservations are accepted, however for weekday Community Center rentals, please contact the Waukee Parks & Recreation Department at 515-978-0007.

Centennial Park Enclosed, Centennial Park Open & Windfield Park Open Shelters These facilities are rented April 1 through mid-Oct. beginning March 1. Reservations can be made online 180 days in advance of the desired reservation date. Keys, if needed, can be picked up the week of the reservation. Waukee Community Center 675 Walnut Street

Waukee’s Community Center is now available for rent online for Friday, Saturday and Sunday rentals. Inside the 2,800 square-foot building you will find a refrigerator, sink, microwave, oven, warming drawer and coffee maker. The building has 12 round tables, three rectangle tables and 90 chairs, making it an ideal location for family reunions, small wedding receptions and business meetings. Length of Time

Ridge Pointe Pavilion

655 SE Legacy Pointe Boulevard The Ridge Pointe Pavilion sits on the 21-acre Ridge Pointe Park and has a covered concrete patio overlooking the park. Inside the 660 square-foot Pavilion you will find a refrigerator, sink and microwave along with restrooms that are shared with park users. The Pavilion has six round tables and two rectangular tables. Those tables will seat 48, and there is additional seating on the patio. The Pavilion features two charcoal grills. Year-round reservations are welcome as the Pavilion is air-conditioned and heated, making it ideal for graduation parties or small celebrations. Length of Time

Centennial Park Enclosed Shelter 1255 Warrior Lane

The enclosed shelter is located on the southwest corner of Centennial Park with a playground and restrooms nearby. The shelter has a small deck overlooking the park and a charcoal grilling area. Inside the shelter are 12 picnic tables. The shelter does not have heating or air-conditioning and is only available to rent April 1-Oct. 6. This is an all-day rental from 8 a.m.-10 p.m. Rental fee: $40

Centennial Park Open Air Shelter 1255 Warrior Lane

The open air shelter is in the heart of Centennial Park and is surrounded by an open grass area, a disc golf course, ball fields, playgrounds and restrooms. The shelter has 11 picnic tables and two charcoal grills. This shelter is available to rent April 1-Oct. 31. This is an all-day rental from 8 a.m.-10 p.m. Rental fee: $25

Windfield Park Open Air Shelter 114 Windfield Parkway

The Windfield Park Open Air Shelter sits adjacent to play areas, a full basketball court and a backstop for baseball and softball. Other amenities include a shelter house, four picnic tables, a bike rack, 13 parking spots and a unisex enclosed restroom. This shelter is available to rent April 1-Oct. 31. This is an all-day rental from 8 a.m.-10 p.m. Maximum capacity is 25 people. Rental fee: $25 Fox Creek Pavilion

PARKS Centennial Park 1255 Warrior Lane

Centennial Park offers a wide range of recreational opportunities. The 33-acre park is equipped with two sand volleyball courts, three ball diamonds, a 12-hole disc golf course, three playgrounds, one basketball court, the newly reshaped Sugar Creek, a covered bridge, a Little Free Library, one open shelter and one enclosed shelter. There is plenty of open green space for playing soccer or enjoying a family picnic. Centennial Park has it all!

G.E. Davis Park

Walnut and 7th Street G.E. Davis Park sits in front of the Waukee Community Center and honors George Edward Davis. Davis served as the mayor of the City of Waukee for 30 years. Most recently a bench and a flowerbed were added by a local Eagle Scout, and a Little Free Library was added by the Waukee United Methodist Congregation. The Waukee Leadership Institute’s Veterans Memorial is also located here.

Windfield Park

114 Windfield Parkway Windfield Park was renovated in 2015 and features many exciting amenities. The park is equipped with a full basketball court, a backstop for baseball or softball, age-appropriate play areas including an accessible swing, a Little Free Library and an open shelter. Increased walking and biking paths make it easier to connect from the park to the Heart of the Warrior Trail.

PARKS Songbird Park

Behind 1070 1st Pl., East of Southview Drive Songbird Park has been certified as a “Backyard Wildlife Habitat� by The National Wildlife Federation. This three-acre habitat is certified because of the conscientious planning, landscaping and sustainable gardening where wildlife may find quality habitat, food, water, shelter and places to raise their young.

Triangle Park

Ashworth Drive and 6th Street Triangle Park is a half-acre park nestled in the heart of the historic Downtown Triangle District, featuring a large gazebo, a Little Free Library and many nearby businesses. It serves as host to a variety of community events throughout the year.

Southfork Park

Southbranch Drive Southfork Park is a three-acre neighborhood park with amenities including a playground, the Gordon Christianson Open Shelter, picnic tables, a grill and benches. In 2015 a Little Free Library was installed for neighbors to share and borrow their favorite books.

Warrior Park 1050 4th Street

Warrior Park is a seven-acre park with four ball diamonds, one playground, a Little Free Library and a specially engineered sledding hill.

Grant Park

PARKS Ridge Pointe Park

655 SE Legacy Pointe Boulevard Ridge Pointe Park is a 21-acre park that serves as a flat, open field for soccer practice and open play. It features two playgrounds, a sand volleyball court, a walking path, a backstop, the Pavilion (available to rent year-round) and a Little Free Library.

Grant Park

605 SE Driftwood Lane Grant Park is a one-and-a-half-acre neighborhood park that was remodeled during the summer of 2015. The remodeled park includes walking paths, new playground equipment, a half-court basketball area and a Little Free Library.

Fox Creek Park

522 NE Westgate Drive In addition to the existing greenspaces and walking trails, Fox Creek Park is now the home of Waukee’s first splash pad. Visitors will find a new tennis court and four Pickleball courts. Fox Creek Park’s new, non-traditional play area features a climbing wall and rope climb, as well as a unique “in-hill” slide and tunnel system. The new Fox Creek Pavilion is also available for event rentals.

Trailside Dog Park

Trailside Dog Park 590 SE Brick Drive

Waukee’s first dog park opened in April of 2019. The four-acre site is located just east of Alice’s Road, directly south of the popular Heart of the Warrior Trail. The Trailside Dog Park includes public restrooms, 21 parking stalls, separated large/small dog areas, drinking fountains, dog waste stations, a shade structure, concrete walking paths and open greenspaces. It also features a trail connection to the Heart of the Warrior Trail. 2020 annual passes will go on sale in November. Visit www.Waukee.org/dogpark for more information.

Raccoon River Valley Trailhead North 10th Street and Hickman Road

The Raccoon River Valley Trail is an 89-mile paved trail beginning at the trailhead in Waukee, winding through 14 other communities and looping back to Waukee. The Waukee Trailhead is located on the north side of Hickman Road near 10th Street. The 350-foot-long art installation “Waukee Railroad Pergola - In the Shadow of the Rails” at the trailhead serves to put a greater focus on the City’s trails while making Waukee and the Raccoon River Valley Trail a hot spot for bicycle enthusiasts from all over Iowa. Be sure to see it lit up in all its glory for evening trail rides!

Westown Meadows Park 2445 SE Willowbrook Drive

Westown Meadows Park is a new neighborhood park currently under construction at 2445 SE Willowbrook Drive. Once open this fall, it will feature a playground, paved walking paths, landscaping, parking and a restroom/storage room building. This modern park project also includes a water play feature and shaded picnic table areas.
