Welcome to Wayne State Circle K! September 2018

What is Circle K International?

Circle K International is a student organization founded on the pillars of service, leadership, and fellowship. Our members cherish these and work tirelessly to uphold them. Our organization is dedicated to serving Detroit and our surrounding community. Every year, we engage in a variety of service events that help us make our city a better place. We volunteer at hospitals and children’s centers to help the kids of tomorrow succeed. We hold bake sales every two weeks to help fundraise for a good cause. Every year, we host an event called 24 Hours of Service, where we plan service events from 7am-7am. CKI members from all over the state sign up for an epic day filled with hard work, smiles, and an overall good time.

Additionally, WSU CKI hosts a Fall Rally every year to help both new and old members learn more about Circle K and have a great time. Usually held in the Wayne State Student Center, our Fall Rally includes fun games, plenty of food, and an introduction to all the service events planned for the upcoming semesters. This year, our Fall Rally will be held in October in Room Hillberry E in the Student Center. Bring friends and a smile! It’s sure to be a good time.

Recently, we hosted the Michigan CKI District Convention, right in the heart of Detroit. Our members graciously welcomed over 100 Circle K’ers from across the mitten for a weekend filled with service, reflection, and celebration of another great year. All participants were able to volunteer at different sites throughout Detroit, which helped show them all of Detroit’s glory, as well as its troubles. Circle K’ers also participated in a thrilling scavenger hunt throughout Downtown which helped educate them about the city and its culture.

We’ve already held our first event of the year at Arts, Beats, and Eats, and are looking forward to many more!

Words from Detroit Kiwanis No. 1 Detroit Kiwanis No. 1 is the first Kiwanis club in the world, and in this city Kiwanis began on January 21, 1915. Our club was started by a group of businessmen in the Downtown area that wanted to network for business. Not far along, they decided they wanted more than that and wanted to give back to the community and thus started volunteering and helping others. We are a global service organization and in Michigan we are growing strong. Just a few months ago, we welcomed the Kiwanis Club of Berkeley, and we were glad some Circle K’ers could celebrate with us. I am Marian O’Higgins, Governor of the Michigan District for 2018-2019. I am a proud member of Detroit Kiwanis No. 1 Club and look forward to working with WSU CKI to be involved, grow and do meaningful service in our community. About 12 years ago, Detroit No. 1 sponsored WSU Circle K. We are proud to be the sponsor of this energetic and involved Circle K. We look forward to collaborating on shared service activities and having members at our club meetings. We meet on the first and third Tuesdays of each month. We would love to have you join us at our meetings. Yours in Service, Marian O’Higgins, Governor Elect for Michigan District Kiwanis
