Editor’s Letter As the mercury rises in the thermometer, things are hotting up in the offices of Lifestyle Monthly with all our exciting events planned. Not least, we have an exclusive interview with the pukka Jamie Oliver who, if you go to his website, will discover that he isn’t giving interviews to anyone until the autumn due to his busy schedule. However when Lifestyle Monthly put in a request to his people, we were delighted and very privileged to discover Jamie would love to be in our magazine, proving once again, that we are the number one lifestyle magazine for the region.

CRM, or Customer Relationship Management is the smart way to manage and nurture your company's interaction and database with clients. Not only can it enable you to generate new sales but also reduces your operational costs -
ProSpec IS THE WAY FORWARD. ASHLEY CULLEN, OPERATIONS DIRECTOR EXPLAINS...
Visit us at: www.assistsolutions.co.uk
WHO WE ARE Peter Ramsey – Managing Director (25+ years in IT Software Development. Extensive Business Development experience within corporate and start up businesses. International experience with product design and development in the US, China, and Japan). Tony Cyprys – Technical Service Director (20+ years in IT Service Management, Software Support and Accountancy. Vast experience of managing in house development, implementation, and service teams to deliver on time, on budget and above expectations). Ashley Cullin – Operations Director Louise Ramsey – Marketing & Sales Director (20+ years in Sales & Marketing in the UK and Overseas. New business startup experience as well as working with large multi national corporate organisations. Product design, development, and manufacturing experience. An inventor holding granted international Patents and Design Registrations).
Who are you and what do you do? ProSpec Software was initially developed as a solution to the workflow that recruitment businesses deal with when placing temporary and contract workers in 2002. It was quickly realised that recruitment solutions in the marketplace were not functionally adequate to deal with the complex nature of this work and ProSpec IT Limited was launched in 2004. The ProSpec Recruitment Software range was further developed to include a fully functional CRM product with additional Marketing module. Assist Solutions Limited was setup to provide organisations from all industries with the type of simple to use, fully functional software suites that will quickly provide an invaluable asset to their businesses in ensuring Sales Leads are maximised. The ProSpec range of products now include a fully functional CRM and Marketing suite, Recruitment Suite and an Online Timesheet and Vendor Management System. What is your business background? Over 20 years in business, completed a degree in Business Studies at Manchester university, completed CIPD at night school. Initially started in procurement moved into operational management but always responsible for IT. In 1996 took the plunge and went into project management and has never looked back. How did you come up with the idea? It was to solve a problem within the recruitment industry initially there wasn’t a product to manage complex temporary placements that multi disciplined agencies deal with. ProSpec was developed to manager their placements of candidates as well as managing their staff and clients on a daily basis. How many hours a week do you work? As many as is required to keep the customers happy
Why do you think it will work? • It is very simple to use but full of functionality. • Most sales people just want to sell and ProSpec won’t stop them from doing that. • Managers want to be able to manage their sales staff and ProSpec will give them all the KPI’s statistics required. • Marketing managers want to keep in touch with current clients and court new ones, ProSpec will let them do it with ease. What is your unique selling point? • We work with you to give you a solution. • We don’t just give you a box and a disc and wish you luck. • We can tailor our product to match your business. How important is networking to you? Networking is very important I believe when you create valuable networking relationships, you build them on a foundation of mutual trust, sharing knowledge, experiences and resources to help one another grow your businesses by either referring one another or doing business directly with one another. Tell me a typical day in your life? Hide from the kids for as long as possible make a brief appearance and disappear to work! Apart from Tuesdays when I am on the school run. Being involved in a growing business everyday is different some days it is on a client site for a demo, training or technical evaluation of a new requirement. Other days it will be in the office working with the developers on new projects as developers often get carried away! Account management is a key requirement we like to keep in contact with our clients and of course we use ProSpec to manage our day. And of course when a client is going live we like to keep time free to ensure they have the support needed. How hard is it juggling family/kids and work? Family and kids are important and although the work takes up many hours I always ensure
there is time for them especially at weekends. We all put 110% into the business but we also take the time to commit to family as well. What's the best thing about being self employed? We are not self employed as such but being involved in a reasonably small company gives you the benefit to become involved in all aspects and have a greater say than you normally would What's your proudest achievement to date? Being involved in the development of ProSpec and seeing a number of clients using the software and being happy. What is the most important thing to you? My wife and kids. What 3 things makes a person successful? New ideas – think outside the box and offer something different. Drive and Ambition – have the drive and ambition to ensure your ideas are realised and you achieve your goal. Have a good network around you whether it be family, friends, business colleagues, advisors etc… How can you tell a genuine person in business? Don't listen to what people say. Watch what they do. What are your plans for the next year? To continue with the growth of ProSpec CRM and introduce new online solutions as well as a number of additional added value services such as web design, provision of qualified target market contact information and reliable, accurate mailing lists that get the results you want. And anything else you can think of!!! We have a very strong, passionate, and focused team that can deliver all of your requirements.

Celebrity Interview
Jamie Oliver
The “pukka” chef talks about his life and love ahead of his new restaurant which opens in Liverpool One on June 14th. According to his website, the extremely busy and talented chef is not giving any interviews until the autumn, but fortunately he agreed to chat exclusively to Lifestyle Monthly.... in an interview with Amanda Moss
Tell us about your latest venture, Jamie’s Italian. Jamie’s Italian is a life’s dream really. Many years ago, when i was just starting out in tv, I promised my mentor, Gennero Contaldo, that one day i would have him as my partner in a brilliant restaurant serving beautiful, authentic Italian food. Three years ago we started talking about it properly. We launched the first couple of restaurants at the height of the recession but I had faith in the British public because I knew that they would appreciate great food and great service. And so far I have been really humbled by the fact that we have queues outside our restaurants most nights of the week.
Why have you chosen Liverpool to open? Liverpool is a wonderful, wonderful city. Lovely people, loads of history, one of the great cities in the world. I can’t wait to open there.
What can we expect in terms of menu, food etc? The menu changes every few months as we put seasonal stuff on there, although we do keep certain favourites on the menu like chicken cooked under a brick and flash steak. What we have basically done is taken a £40 meal and done it for £20, but that’s not because we have sacrificed quality- quite the opposite. We have got pretty much the best of what our suppliers can offer us. We have got exclusive rights to certain foods so no-one else can source them. Simply, we aim to be the best on the high street in terms of food and service. But don’t take my word for itcome in!
You seem to be constantly working and coming up with new ideas, are you a workaholic? Not at all, at the beginning of each year we plan my diary and six weeks of holiday for me and the family go in straight away. I don’t know that many other chefs that get that much holiday. The rest of the time, yes, I do work hard and I am always coming up with ideas but then I am constantly inspired by new things.

When you first did the Naked Chef did you ever imagine it would be so successful?
felt comfortable in. The Queen, I was told, would not mind if I did not wear a tie.
Never. My ambition was to one-day own a little restaurant somewhere in the country where I could settle down and create beautiful food.
Is it true that Jennifer Anniston flew you over to cook a dinner party for her?
Can you name any life- changing events that have happened to you in your career? Having children, I think, because it focused my attention on what we feed our children and it is that which led to School Dinners, Ministry of Food and more recently To Huntington, West Virginia where I have been filming a series for American TV.
How do you like to relax? Same as everyone else really, on the sofa with a movie cuddled up to Jools or playing with the kids at the weekends. Or having mates round for a good night with great food and wine.
What is your proudest achievement in your career so far? School Dinners and Fifteen. School Dinners is nowhere finished as a project and I am still dipping in and out of it. But to get so much money from the government when we had been told there wasn’t any- amazing! And that was people power action because 271,000 signed the petition that I took to Downing Street. And Fifteen was another proud moment because when you see young people who’ve had the roughest start in life and they get an opportunity to train at fifteen and they blossom- it’s a wonderful thing.
When you set out to change school dinners did you ever imagine it would have such an impact on society? I hoped it would but without the support of those people who signed the petition and also a lot of friends in the media, it wouldn’t have had such an impact. But school is really only part of the problemhome is where the real issues lie, which is why i did ministry of food. If you saw that series you’ll remember we set up a centre in Rotherham offering cooking classes. That centre is now fully booked for the next three months and people who go to the classes say it has changed their lives. There’s now another centre opening in Bradford and one in Leeds and other councils are looking at opening them too.
What is your favourite meal you like to cook? I don’t really have one because it’s always changing. I love spicy food so at the moment I’m into spicy pastes and marinades on meat, but it will be something different next month when the summer fruit and veg start to come through.
What was it like being awarded an MBE? It was brilliant although the media spoiled it a bit by having a go at me for not wearing a tie. The thing is, that I phoned up and asked what the dress code was and they told me to come in whatever I
She did. It was Brad’s 40th and I flew over with one of my apprentices from Fifteen to cook his birthday dinner. He had all my books, which was a bit strange, but we have become good friends since.
How did that feel? Very special. The apprentice from Fifteen couldn’t believe it. Two years ago he was nicking cars and now he’s flying to Los Angeles to cook for Brad Pitt!!
Do you prefer working in the US or the UK? The UK is my home and I love it here but travel is always good to broaden the horizons.
How difficult do you find juggling your work with your home life? I’m lucky because Jools is a great mum and I know that during the week when I’m working, the kids are happy and fed and do their homework. Then at the weekends, I take over and Jools gets to chill out a bit.
Congratulations on expecting number 4. I expect everyone is asking you if you are hoping for a boy? I actually don’t mind at all. I’m secretly a bit scared about having a boy now because at least with girls I know where I am. And also, I’m getting close to having a whole netball team.
What do you teach your kids about healthy eating? I don’t really teach it, as such. We eat well anyway so it’s just a question of them knowing about food. The two older kids love food anyway and love getting involved in cooking. The other day I had

my mate, Andy, round for dinner and I asked him to go out and get me some rosemary. He came back with some old weed because he had no idea what rosemary looked like so I had to send Poppy out to get some because she knows all the herbs in the garden.
What do you think of the term “celebrity chef?” and how do you see yourself? I see myself as a chef really, not a celebrity. It seems like everyone you see on tv who has been in a kitchen these days is a “celebrity chef”.
What are your plans for the next 12 months? I’m just working on a new book and tv series for the autumn at the moment plus coming up with some summer recipes for the Jamie’s Italian menu. I’m also working on lots of stuff for my magazine.
Where do you like to holiday? We tend to go skiing once a year but in the summer we tend to stay at home in Essex because we can really get away there. If my team know I’m on holiday, they don’t bother me.
What 5 essential things should be in everyone’s fridge/cupboard? It’s hard to pick just five but I’d go for tinned tomatoes, dried pasta, good olive oil, garlic and lemon... Also chilli if I’m allowed to push it to six ingredients.
Do you go out to eat in other restaurants and do you find yourself criticising the food? I do go out to other restaurants but I’d never criticise the food because I know how hard it is to work in the kitchens at a big restaurant and every chef has their own unique take on recipes. But usually in the uk, when I go out to eat, I go to places that I know will be good.
What food would you ban in the uk? I don’t think I’d ban anything. Instead, I would improve education about food because then everyone could make informed decisions about what they eat. Fast food once in a while as a treat – fine. But just not every day.
What has been the best invention in the kitchen to date? The speed peeler. I use mine every day. It’s only a very basic, cheap little bit of kit £3-£5 or so – but it’s brilliant.

of a
personal trainer Amanda Moss continues her sessions with Lewis Bailey, living up to his deserved reputation as the number one personal trainer in the city.
I showed my husband my biceps the other day and he said, “Blimey, they’re almost as big as mine.” Er, not quite but there is definitely some improvement in that department. Lewis has upped the exercise regime to ensure I am completely incapable of compiling a syllable, never mind a sentence after a workout with him any more for lack of breath. Boxing is the way forward, he says. Fortunately I have some mega pink boxing gloves in the back of my wardrobe from the time I took up kick boxing for all of five minutes which instills new enthusiasm into the workout. Which consists of the following: Punching “ones and twos” for 20 followed by 30 squats, followed by 20 more punches, then 25 squats, followed by more punches…. You get the idea. A day later my arms are so sore I find it difficult to push the pram but hey, no pain, no gain, right? I can’t believe I have proved everyone wrong, not least myself, that I am still going to see Lewis three times a week. Sometimes I have to question my sanity. It’s hard juggling work,
the kids and the gym but the appointments with my personal trainer have turned into an important factor into my weekly routine. (And stopped me meeting for latte breakfasts with friends and colleagues, which no doubt has helped my weight loss). If you are looking to change your body shape, without going under the knife it’s the safest way. And arguably less painful. Lewis is more than a personal trainer, he is a life coach and qualified nutritionist. He can advise you on your diet for all aspects of health and wellbeing. While he pushes my body to the extreme, I feel safe in his hands. There is no better person I would recommend. So back to the training – this morning’s hellish workout was press ups on one leg, yes, one leg!!! There’s nothing dignified about it. As I fall about all over the mat, huffing and puffing Lewis has a smug look on his face. Is he enjoying causing me such discomfort. “It’s great, isn’t it?” he beams. When I have finished, when my face resembles a small beetroot, he asks me if I am ok. What do you think?
Lewis Within the health & fitness industry there are many myths and bogus claims from so called experts. So I would like to take this opportunity to put to bed some of the ridiculous claims I hear about and to answer some familiar questions on health, fitness and weight loss. Is fat bad for us? No – Fat is a vital fuel source that is necessary to our survival. The confusion comes from medical professionals telling us to avoid fats as they clog the arteries and give us heart disease. Trans and hydrogenated fats will clog up the arteries and yes give us heart disease. This basically comes from junk food, alcohol and smoking. Fats contained in organic nuts, fish and meat are completely fine! So healthy fats in the foods just mentioned are good and poor fats in junk are NOT good. Is cereal healthy? No – Cereal is not healthy although they claim to be. Just because they are full of fiber or contain vitamins or do not have any added salt does not make them healthy. The truth is cereal’s are a highly processed food which most contain high amounts of salt and

sugar and we have been led to believe they are healthy, this is down to the amount of millions spent on clever marketing. So don’t be fooled by advertising, for more info go to www.elitefitnessconsultants.co.uk click on the articles page and read the article on cereal, it will make you think again before buying these so called healthy breakfasts. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day? Yes – This really is the most important meal. If you have your evening meal at 7.30pm and then skip breakfast and don’t eat lunch till 12.30 then you have a huge gap of 17 hours of your day without food which leaves you with 7 hours left to binge as you will be starving. Eat regularly, breakfast 8am, lunch 12pm, snack 3pm and evening meal 7.30pm this gives you a good 12 hours nourishment and energy throughout the day and will stop you from

caving sugar and reaching for coffee. A couple of glasses of wine each night won’t do any harm? No – It will cause plenty of harm, it will, over time, lower your immune system leaving you open to illnesses, produce fatty deposits around your liver and slowly reduce your livers ability to function. If you are unsure of what this fantastic organ does then Google – “what does the liver do”. So put the wine down and reach for the water. If I do 1000 stomach crunches a day will I get a flat stomach? No – Trying to reduce body fat from one area of the body by exercising that area will not get rid of the fat. Fat does not turn into muscle so you are wasting your time doing this. The key is to eat healthy, live a good & active lifestyle and exercise 3-4 times a week using total body exercises and not just individual areas body parts.
Liverpool’s top sporting event The ICAP International Tennis Tournament
A
s one of the key warm ups to Wimbledon, the Liverpool International Tennis Tournament is the only tournament of its kind, currently the largest exhibition event in Europe making it a must for ATP, WTA and legend players.
Liverpool’s top sporting event, the TraditionICAP Tennis Tournament returns for its 9th year at Calderstones Park in Allerton from Wednesday 16 June- Sunday 20 June
The tournament has attracted some of the world’s best players and this month is no exception. John McEnroe chats about his excitement about coming to Liverpool to play…..you cannot be serious!!!! In an interview with Alan Jackson from BBC Radio Merseyside, John talks about his passion for tennis and his hopes for inspiring the next generation of tournament winners. John McEnroe started playing tennis when he was eight years old and soon began competing in national junior tournaments. He believes the earlier you start, the better.
He said “I’ve always felt that the more opportunities we give our kids to play the game, the better athletes they’ll be in the sport, although it has been frustrating for me because over 30 years it became a big obsession.”
So why is the UK not so good at introducing a lot more tennis players to win top titles?
John said, “The kids when they are young like to be with friends and play other sports, especially team sports and they gravitate towards that. Tennis is not an easy game to pick up, takes a while to learn the intricacies and that takes time. You have got to really give kids the opportunities and in a lot of places the facilities have closed up. It’s hard for kids to be kids and deal with growing up. Plus where I live in the States, the courts are too big and the developers have put in office space instead.”
How young should you start to play tennis if you want to be a professional player?
Health & Fitness
“Well I started when I was eight and a half but some start a lot earlier. You should certainly do it before 10 if you looking for them to be professional players. A good school which encourages the sport should be used as a tool but kids have to want to do it at that age. It’s a very athletic sport, they have to want to run from 1 side of the court to another. Having a passion for this is something you can spot at a pretty young age but you can’t force it on kids too young.” Over 3000 youngsters are expected at Calderstones park this month for the ICAP International Tennis Tournament. It is one of the most successful tournaments in Europe and John is looking forward to being there. He said, “This is such a success and to hold it in a public park is exciting. Liverpool has made it great and accessible to everyone, especially children and it is something that should be followed up. Hopefully there are programmes out there that will get the kids to play. He added, “We have been extremely fortunate to get star names like Navratilova, Bjorg – As you get older you get a better prospective of what you can do and you realise just because you did a good job it is nice to give something back. I have been lucky to see things we never would have seen had we not the opportunities we had and it is nice to try and instill some desire in others.” Of his famous outbursts John said, “I gathered many new fans because of outspoken ways, but that is me and that is what drives me on. I enjoy tennis, I have been playing professionally for 30 years now and getting out and practicing is what you have to do to be a success. I look at tennis in the USA and it should be better than it is, it is a great sport and so the least I can do is try and instill excitement in other people who want to play it. I care and am passionate about the game and is up to me to visit schools and teach kids about the sport- they have the opportunity to play and they can be great athletes. John McEnroe is a sporting legend that will be made very welcome in Liverpool, that is guaranteed. Of that John said, “I came and played about 20 years ago but I didn’t get to see any of the city. When I play, I play my best and don’t think about anything else, and the last time I was here I think I was on my way to Wimbledon. This time though I would like to try and see a bit more of the city and where the Beatles came from. I don’t know when I will get the chance again.”
ROYAL CHARITY TO PLAY A PART AT THE LIVERPOOL INTERNATIONAL TENNIS TOURNAMENT Tradition-ICAP Liverpool International Tennis Tournament, can reveal that The Prince’s Trust will be its new official charity. Northern Vision, the sports and event management company behind the event, has secured a partnership with The Prince’s Trust, which will see revenue generated for the charity through a series of initiatives leading up to and throughout the tournament. Some of these include a pro-am game with an ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) world ranked player, which will be auctioned off to the highest bidder next year as well as gift aid envelopes on tables within the hospitality area. The Prince’s Trust strives to help young people by giving practical and financial support to those who need it most. It provides development through training, skill building and personal guidance to enable young people to move into work, education or training. Anders Borg, Tournament Director of Liverpool International Tennis Tournament, said: “The Prince’s Trust is such a fantastic charity and we are so pleased that it is going to be the official charity of the tournament next year. It has a similar ethos in helping and developing young people and we wanted to support the charity and raise as many funds as possible to ensure its excellent work can continue to benefit the young people of Merseyside and beyond.” “The tournament has established itself as one of the highlights of the sporting calendar in the north-west and we are so pleased to be affiliated with such a prestigious high profile event. We hope that our close involvement with the tournament will not only raise awareness of the fantastic work that The Prince’s Trust conducts across the North–West but also generate new channels of support.”

Over the past few weeks I have been searching the high street for some holiday essentials, and to be honest, I was struggling. The usual Top Shop, Miss Selfridge and Zara were not living up to their usual expectations but I was quite relieved when I popped into Monsoon and Accessorize. There I found some gorgeous bikinis, kaftans and maxi dresses and they were all quite reasonably priced. I got this great black and white maxi dress from New Look for a bargain price of £18. I teamed it up with some fab accessories and got a great look for the day. I also bought this gorgeous sequin swimsuit for £30.

5 minutes with Jade.... What are your passions? My job; I enjoy and love every aspect of my work, the people that I meet as a part of it and also the opportunities that have come my way. I am also very passionate about fashion. I could look at clothes every single day without getting bored, but all this is secondary after my family. What is the best thing in your life? The best things in my life are my fiancé and my daughter. They make my life complete. How important is family to you? My family are the most important things in my life. We are all very close. I don't think a day goes by that I don't speak to my Nan and Granddad. I very rarely go anywhere without my mum, she is not just my mum she is my best friend and role model who I really look up to. As a family we all make the time to spend together every week. Tell us who your favourite designers are? There are some fantastic designers around at the moment that catch my eye, but one who stands out for me and designs a lot of my outfits for special events is Mark Melia. Whether it is an opening of a restaurant or an awards ceremony he will make me something fantastic. Another place where I always find unique pieces is a fairly new boutique in Liverpool called Style Clinic. It has been open 16

for about 18 months now but if I’m looking for something a bit different ill take a trip there. You can normally find something there to suit everybody and the girls are so friendly and really help you achieve the look that you are after.
the city to keep my eye out for any key fashion pieces. I’ll then go home and cook a nice dinner for the 3 of us and I try to get an early night although it never works out. On the odd night I will go to an event if something is on that takes my fancy.
What is your style? I think I have quite a unique style. I’m not really a winter girl as my mum has always told me I don't wear black well! I tend to pick the brighter colours so the summer is more a season for my style. For the day time I tend to wear jeans with kaftans or tunic tops and maxi dresses and for an evening I tend to go for a more glamorous look.
Tell us about your role in Fashion Week? I am thrilled to be part of Fashion week. At the moment I am helping organise the week along with the talented and dedicated editor of the magazine Amanda Moss and our great sales guy Lee Hagan. We are in the process of getting sponsorships, designers, models, makeup artists and everything else to make this the best yet. Last year the event took Liverpool by storm but this year is going to be bigger and better! The week commences on the 19th October for 5 nights with 2 shows per day. I am hosting the event Tuesday - Friday and a good friend of mine Rick Vaughn from Radio City will be hosting the Saturday where I will be modelling for designer Mark Melia in the celebrity show and then we will be closing the event with an amazing after party.
If you had £100 left in your purse what would you spent it on? That's a difficult one! I would probably take my family for our usual meal to Jumbo city in china town or go to San Carlo for a meal. Tell us about a typical day in your life? I tend to get up really early with Jaz, between 6.00 and 6.30. We make a fruit juice and have some breakfast, I will normally drop Jaz at nursery and go to the gym for a couple of hours then get ready and go to work, whether it be a job for Littlewoods, a photo shoot for a designer, a day at Hairfields, our own salon where I do the accounts or a little shop around
What beauty tip can you share with us? I try to drink plenty of water and have regular exercise as well as having a well balanced diet and lots of sleep. I also have my nails done every 2 weeks, my hair and spray tan every week.

Style Clinic’s advice:
Essen/al pieces for the summer; 1. Long co0on maxi, comfortable, looks chic, can be dressed up or down, great for holidays. Tip don’t think you have to be tall, it can actually add length as your not breaking up the top and bo0om.
Business partners Amanda Williams & Esther McAllister talk about their Style Clinic
2. Double denim is a big look, denim waistcoats, denim shirts with jeans, cropped, ripped, bleached. Whatever you fancy, keep it double.
Style Clinic opened it’s doors in April last year in the leafy suburb of Allerton, South Liverpool. Located above Toni & Guy on Allerton Road. It is fast becoming the place to be and since opening they have a loyal customer following already.
3. Harem pants. There is so much choice when it comes to Harem pants, from full on MC Hammer to the more subtle which can actually be really fla0ering and super comfortable. Again can be worn with flip flops or a wedge, or even a heel can work great with some of the more dressy pieces. Tip always do fi0ed top, don’t add volume on top and bo0om.
They sell a diverse range of ladies designer clothing, shoes and jewellery, sourcing their brands from across the globe, visi/ng Paris and London regularly. Founder, Amanda said, “I think our success so far is due to our wide selec/on of looks and styles and our excep/onal customer service. Both myself and my business partner, Esther are real ‘gabbers’ and love styling and mee/ng new people. Therefore it is not unusual for our customers to spend hours in the store, trying on the en/re collec/on!“ She added, “Our reputa/on is paramount, as long as the customer enjoys the experience and gets a good vibe for the store, that’s great, as when she’s ready to shop, hopefully Style Clinic will be her first choice. “We appeal to everyone, From the 18 year old girls to fashion conscious ladies in their 60’s. When asked who our target market is, I always explain age is not a factor, it’s more about personality. I am 40 and my business partner is 21!” Amanda has worked in fashion for over 20 yrs the la0er as an image consultant/ stylist. The combina/on of age, experience and personality is reflected in their collec/on. The Style Clinic customer wants high quality fashion forward clothing that is not available on the high street, but doesn’t want to pay high end designer prices.
“She is prepared to be different and stand out from the crowd, “ explains Amanda. Style Clinic aims to help women of all ages look and feel their very best, regardless of size and budget. Price points start at £40 and go up to £450 for a full length evening dress. Their ranges tend to work loosely alongside their style personali/es which Amanda uses during a style consulta/on which are classic feminine, drama/c edgy, bohemian chic, and effortless and natural.
She said, “Our USP is the truly personal one to one honest advice we give, along with our ever growing fashion forward collec/on. I am an experienced image consultant and stylist, therefore we offer colour analysis and style and image make-overs too. “We know a lot of our customers by name and buy with our regulars in mind now. We are and will con/nue to bring labels to the city and beyond which are unheard of. When sourcing our products, the cloth, cut and finish is of utmost importance. Having managed Karen Millen for 7 years, and working with a good quality product, the eye is always on quality.” So what is the key piece to watch this summer then? Amanda said, “Our favourite piece for the summer has to be our beau/ful Spirit of Phoenix silk kimono jacket. They cost £250 and are worth every penny, hand painted, hand beaded appliqué in beau/ful colours. These jackets are truly stunning, they appeal to all ages and for all occasions. Worn with leggings and tube dress
for a real modern take, worn over jeans for a real boho look, worn over a simple shi dress for a more classic look or even on holiday around the pool with your bikini!! They are such a talking point and simply stunning! They are one size which fits an 8- 18 YES this is possible! And are available in 5 different colours. Amanda formed Style Clinic with her business partner, Esther, whom she met whilst doing a shoot for a magazine. Amanda said, “ She was a buyer, although she was young, I loved her sense of style and love of luxury, we got along really well, so when I decided to open the bou/que a er having my 3rd child I realised it would be tough on my own, so thought Esther might make the perfect business partner. Our combina/on of age and experience has been a great formula. We both bring totally different ideas to the table. We have an online store too, which my husband created and looks a er, we are currently selling to Europe on a regular basis and have had sales from as far as New York and Chicago. Which is unbelievable really for a li0le bou/que on Allerton Rd. We’ve come a long way during the last 12 months and hope the next 12 will be as exci/ng as the last”.

The Noble House
Restaurant & Food
Itʼs always been fashionable to compare restaurants to theatre. Each establishment has a cast (the chef, the waiting staff, the patrons) and an intricately designed, carefully lit stage (the dining room). The meal unfolds in three acts (appetizer, entrée, dessert), often with a musical score playing in the background, and the price of admission, when drinks have been included, often exceeds that of a Broadway show. The theme of The Noble House is of an upmarket New York diner. It belongs to the same family as Alma de Cuba. I have been to The Noble House for networking events and business meetings after dark so I was impressed by the decor in its full daylight glory. Tall ceilings, gigantic windows and huge booths were inviting. Situated in a grade II listed building that was in a former life a private bank and internally now features a "new deco" design concept, with a Barlas Baylar designed chandelier suspended over a 16 foot long solid oak dining table, this venue really delivers.
On a rare lunch date with the husband and baby we were made to feel as welcome as the business diners. The manager, John, introduced himself to us and brought a high chair for the baby as we sat down and wasted no time in talking us through the menu. Thereʼs a breakfast menu, served from 7.30am to 10am. For lighter snacks thereʼre sandwiches and toasties. Though judging by the size of the portions there was nothing small about them. There are burgers, salads, steaks and sharing platters of ChateauBriand Steak or Lobster.

The fish can be served in three ways- traditionally seasoned with pepper and olive oil and served with a home made Hollandaise sauce, alternatively you can have it cooked in a sesame dressing with Asian green shoots and sushi noodles. Or you can have it cooked in a casserole of shellfish. As it was lunchtime I did not want a heavy meal so opted for the cauliflower soup to start which was so delicious I was tempted to ask for a second bowl. (The baby devoured most of it, especially the battered cheesy florets in the middle- yum) For mains I chose the seared Marlin, a meaty fish served with the delicious Hollandaise sauce. I was actually taken aback by how good it was. My husband had the Moroccan inspired dish, Tagine of Herdwick Lamb served with Chickpeas, which he enjoyed immensely.
For desert I had a gorgeous, traditional chocolate sundae, an infusion of ice cream, chocolate brownies, cream and caramel wafers. And just to ensure I got to taste everything, we also took home a slither of toffee cheesecake.
If The Noble House were a theatre it would receive a standing ovation and an encore. With so many eateries in the city, this establishments stands out as an unpretentious yet warm place to dine. The quality of the food is spectacular. It ticks all the boxes – child friendly, outstanding service and, most of all, tasty and wholesome food. It is on my list as one of my favourite places now.
ham, but then decided on the warm bruschetta with mozzarella and crème fraiche.
The James Monro 69 Tithebarn Street, Liverpool L2 2EN www.thejamesmonro.com The James Monro is one of the most comfortable settings for a restaurant that I have been to in a long while. The gastropub on Tithebarn Street, serves traditional English food on large plates with generous sized portions. After a morning of shopping, we sunk bank into the luxurious leather armchairs and enjoyed a quiet drink in the peaceful surroundings. As a fan of tall ceilings, original features and large sash windows, The James Monro felt home from home. The lunch menu, which we had, offer 2 courses for a very reasonably priced £8.95. For starters I opted for the Mediterranean platter of buffalo mozzarella, sun-blushed tomato, home made humus and dread. (I asked for the olives to be left off the plate). My friend was interested in the rustic homemade soup of the day, which was pea and
For mains I had a delicious rump steak, cooked through to the middle, as I prefer it, but without drying the meat out, which in itself is an art. The Monro delivered the dish perfectly, served in a delicious red wine sauce and hand cut chips, which were a little too salty for my liking. My friend ate the pan-fried salmon fillet with horseradish beets and a lovely cous cous accompaniment. It smelled divine. Not usually opting for three courses at lunch, we felt we wouldn’t be able to give the James Monro a proper review without sampling their deserts. Each course offers five or six choices and the menu comes on one page which I prefer as you don’t spend ages trawling through endless options. So with the desert menu on offer, what was a girl to have? The homemade cocoa chocolate and Spanish orange tart seemed appealing, as did the lemon and ginger spice cheesecake with a ginger nut base. However we both decided on the sticky toffee pudding with vanilla ice cream. It was very, very tasty. Having eaten more than I would normally, we stumbled out of the restaurant thoroughly stuffed and content. You definitely get value for money here and everything tastes freshly cooked- I would just ask the chef to go easy on the salt next time.
Restaurant & Food
LUNYA Lunya is Liverpool’s latest addition of fine eateries and offers a Catalonian fusion of Spanish and British meals from the deli and restaurant.. There’s an extensive menu which takes a while to digest but what is noticeable is that by each dish there is a suggestion of wine to accompany the meal. It’s a nice touch. We were booked in for 7.30pm when the restaurant was almost empty, yet it took us 50 minutes from ordering to receiving our starter. By that time other diners had filled the space and though my friend and I were enjoying a great conversation, we noticed that people who had arrived after us were getting their dishes before us, which was mildly irritating. The restaurant itself doesn’t have the “wow” factor, it is clean, the staff are friendly however one nice feature was the plasma TV screen on the back wall downstairs which featured the busy kitchen- so you could keep an eye on the chefs preparing your food. Given that it was a Spanish restaurant it would have been nice to see some more Mediterranean influence in the décor. It was a welcome sight when the food did eventually arrived. We had the Roasted Almonds tapas, served in a small terrine pot with chilli flakes and Maldon salt. My friend ordered a char grilled rib eye with chips and was presented with an enormous slab of meat cooked to her perfection. I opted for a mixed Catalan salad which was lovely- just the right blend of tuna, egg and light dressing.
Il Forno
132 Duke Street, East Village, Liverpool L1 5AG 0151 709 4002, www.ilforno.co.uk
LUNYA 18 College Lane Liverpool One L1 3DS
On the side we had a selection of tapas – chicken strips coated in small pieces of potato and lightly fried.. So good that we ordered a second plate! We also had homemade meatballs and Lunya’s signature dish; Spanish omelette with Scouse, baked like a cake with pieces of minced lamb, cabbage, carrots, thyme and pepper. For desert I was presented with an enormous slice of Almond and chocolate cake which was amazing- moist and fluffy sponge with a light crust and chocolate topping. My friend had the chocolate and churros, which are Spanish biscuits and served with a hot chocolate fondue sauce which we can only describe as chocolate custard. All the dishes at Lunya are freshly prepared right down to the spices which are freshly picked and ground- you’ll find nothing in a packet in the kitchen. And despite a slow service to the meal, we couldn’t actually fault the food at all, It was delicious, edgy and tasty- so much so that we were one of the first customers to arrive and the last to leave. So impressed with the tapas was I that I even took a take away deli selection home to the husband. The bill came to £80 for the two of use, a reasonable price considering the amount of dishes we ordered. That’s the trouble with tapas though, you don’t know when to stop!
Il Forno on Duke Street is my favourite Italian restaurant, so when I was asked to go and review it, I leapt at the chance. And they didn’t disappoint. From the moment you enter and walk past the enormous dessert counter you feel like you are in Italy. The cakes are enticing and the ice cream, which is home made on the premises, looks fabulous and tastes even better. If you want to taste any of it, just ask and you’ll be given a spoon! All the staff are Italian, Head chef Paolo Cillo was born in Potenza, Southern Italy and discovered his passion for cooking at the age of 11. He later won a place at the prestigious Etoile Cookery School in Italy before being recruited to head chef at Il Forno. As a creature of habit I was persuaded to try different dishes to the usual orders in order to deliver a fresh approach to my review. The menu is enormous and takes a while to digest as there are so many options, all of which are available to take away. For starters I usually enjoy the bruschetta with creamed garden peas, buffalo mozzarella and parmesan. This time I opted for the Strascinati Con Mollica Di Pane. The unusual pasta, imported direct from Italy, looks like crisps but has the texture of dough and was served with sun dried tomatoes, pine kernels, breadcrumbs and anchovies.
For mains it had to be a pizza and with 28 varieties, it was a difficult choice. I settled on the Pizza Lionnese, tomato, mozzarella, tuna and onion and had a few extra anchovies thrown in. Il Forno specialises in pizzas, with their open oven sitting majestically down one side of the restaurant where you can see and smell them cooking. It is so important to get the base right- thin to the point of a wafer and crispy. Absolutely perfect and served on special plates which allow you to cut them easily. The portion size was enormous so after getting through half I took the rest home with me. To accompany it I had an Insalata Rucola E Parmigiano, a classic dish of rocket and parmesan shavings. The dressing of balsamic vinegar and olive oil comes on the side so you can add as much as you like. My colleague enjoyed the Risotto Con Zucca E Pancetta, a delicious risotto with pumpkin, pancetta and parmesan. There was no room for dessert but they insisted I took home some cheesecake and strawberries which tasted divine. The service in ll Forno is impeccable, the staff are friendly and clearly have a passion for food and are proud of the high quality of food they serve. The restaurant, firmly established for 5 years now, is well worth a 5 minute walk up from Liverpool One if you are looking for an exceptional, authentic Italian restaurant. It has won countless awards which they certainly deserve and should be proud of.
As the global smash hit, Mamma Mia arrives at the Echo Arena this month,
Lifestyle chats to one of its stars, Cameron Blakely Monthly
Cameron Blakely has been part of the International tour since it began five years ago and spoke to us from his hotel room in Switzerland. So how is it going? Yes, very well, the audience are definitely up for it. It is good to see everyone dancing in the aisles. Wait until you come to Liverpool and see their response! Oh I know, I canʼt wait. The show is very interactive, lots of clapping, singing and dancing, People tend to go a bit mad towards the end! What part do you play? I play Sam, the architect who comes back to the island to try and rekindle his love.
Is the stage adaptation like the movie? Pretty much so, the format is the same but there are a couple of songs here and there that have been changed.
Have you always been in the theatre? Yes, I started at the National Youth Theatre when I was 17. Previous to that I went to drama school which gave me good foundations. Then I played the Theatre Clwyd in North Wales. You have appeared in two movies, King Ralph and Splitting Heirs? Which do you prefer, live theatre or film? I am far more used to stage stuff. Filming is more scary, it takes a lot of people ages to set up a shot and so you have this horrible sense of responsibility to get it right. Theatre is far more relaxing and you get to engage with your audience.
Whatʼs the most difficult thing about being a good actor? You have to realise that you wonʼt get every part you audition for but you shouldnʼt be put off by that. I was very lucky in that both my parents are actors so I could talk to them about it. They taught me that if I didnʼt get a role it wasnʼt because I wasnʼt a good enough actor, it was because I was not the right image for them. Would you want your kids to go into acting? Well not really as itʼs far more competitive now, there are more people about. Unfortunately film stars get bums on seats.
What has been the best thing about being on the MAMMA MIA tour? Meeting my wife and getting married last year. I wasnʼt looking for love… sort of life imitating art!
The international tour of “MAMMA MIA” comes direct from a highly successful engagement in Switzerland.
Inspired by the story-telling magic of ABBAʼs timeless songs, writer Catherine Johnsonʼs enchanting tale of family and friendship unfolds on a Greek island paradise. On the eve of her wedding, a daughterʼs quest to discover the identity of her father brings three men from her motherʼs past back to the island they last visited 20 years ago… With music & lyrics by Benny Andersson & Björn Ulvaeus, “MAMMA MIA!” has already been seen by more than 40 million people in over 190 cities across North America, Australia, Europe and Asia.
FOR PEACE OF MIND
there’s a new type of close protection security. Amanda Moss interviews Peace of Mind co-director, Ian Stoddart. Think of close protection security and people of a certain age will think of Kevin Costner in The Body Guard. The industry has come a long way from employing typical beefcake security men. While close protection may be required for different reasons, be it a family outing, company director or VIP celebrities, these security men and women employed for this role now take a much more sensitive and discreet approach to looking after their clients. Ian, a former soldier with Parachute Regiment for several years who was discharged with a knee injury, decided to put his skills to his own business and Peace of Mind was formed. Together with business partner and friend, David Almond, they offer security with a difference. Ian said, “The face of security is changing, I think people should modernise their company face. They should steer away from intimidating thug-like people on their front door, which automatically sets people on their defence, they should hire smart, presentable capable lads who have all the necessary training but have nothing to prove by looking like a bulldog.” “Our staff are fully trained and SIA licensed. They are keen martial artists and may not come across as big guys, but you wouldn’t want to confront them. They have the necessary skills, if and when required to deal with threatening situations but they chose non- hostility before brute force.” Peace of Mind offers security to all kids of businesses, from building sites to nightclubs and close protection. With regards to close protection, they offer a discreet service which enables their clients to go about their business without feeling the presence of their security, yet at the same time taking comfort in the knowledge that they are being protected. Ian says, “We offer drivers with cars to chaperone our clients to parties, business functions and even holidays if required. We have arrangements with some of Liverpool’s top clubs so that if our clients want to have a private party we can make a call and arrange for our clients to be admitted at any level of discretion, We have had enormous pop stars who have done concerts at the Echo Arena and then we have organised them to have a quiet drink in Liverpool. But you won’t know about it because the press won’t have a clue where we take them as our service is so private and subtle.”

It’s not about following the client or standing on a door . It is all about thinking two steps ahead of the client and pre-empting situations and being prepared. Prevention is always better than cure and we value our discreet service because at the same time as providing the security, we don’t want our clients to feel concerned about anything. We do our job quietly yet efficiently so our clients can go about their routine without any worries.”

DJ Superstar EDDIE HALLIWELL caught up with us before his gig at Creamfields
What is your style of music?
I describe my music as energetic, interactive and across the board.
How did you get into DJ-ing?
I got my first set of decks at 15 years old teaching myself to mix and scratch to hip hop. I then went to college and got a Diploma in Music Technology. My first gigs were in and around Manchester playing across the board musically, holding a residency at one club playing house and others playing, trance, techno and hard dance – this led on to residencies at superclubs such as Gatecrasher. I now play electronic music all over the world.
Did you ever imagine being so successful? I didn’t and never take it for granted.
Where is your favourite place to play?
I’ve played so many amazing places, but my favourites are probably Brazil and Ibiza.
Which place has the most memorable crowd?
Scotland and Ireland for being the loudest and Brazil for being the most up for it.
Do you prefer live DJ-ing or radio presenting?
Live DJing definitely - I love interaction with the crowd.
Who are the most promising acts for 2010? Joris Voorn, Jerome Isma-Ae and Marcus Schossow.
What do you listen to when you aren’t working?
To be honest I spend the majority of the time listening to dance music, but occasionally listen to the likes of The Killers and Kings of Leon.
How many records do you have in your collection?
I wouldn’t like to say - Between my digital music and my old vinyl, hundreds of thousands – there’s mountains of vinyl in my house.
What’s your biggest extravagance?
Property really, but I also can’t resist new gadgets!
What do you look forward to most about creamfields The crowd.
Is there a north/south divide when it comes to music/clubbing
I used to be aware of this when I first started to DJ, but as the events and scene has grown more people travel further to events – so there’s generally a good atmosphere everywhere now.
I got my first set of decks at 15 years old teaching myself to mix and scratch to hip hop. I then went to college and got a Diploma in Music Technology.
What are your plans for this summer?
Lots of globe-trotting, my Cream residency in Ibiza and plenty of festivals.
Where is your favourite place on earth?
Apart from home, I suppose a sunny beach somewhere.

Elaine St. John Elaine is the daughter of Football legend Ian St. John (The Saint), who played for Liverpool in the sixties. She lives in West Kirby on the Wirral and her work as a beauty therapist took her as far as Beverly Hills. And during the interview we even learned that she even used to be a Playboy Bunny… What at are your childhood memories? I used to go to Anfield to watch my Dad play and the man who showed us our seats always had a bag of sweets for me. Even today when I hear “…you'll never walk alone…” it raises the hair on the back of my neck.
Who is your perfect dinner date? I'm keeping it local… and it would be John Bishop. I just like men that can me make laugh.
The busy Wirral is the place to be. A peninsula with a very special touch and feel. Unique and extravagant but still down to earth. In our monthly Kaleidoscope feature we try to introduce you to local businesses and people who are helping to make this county so special.
Where would you take him for dinner? This must be “The Red Door” a new bar and restaurant in West Kirby. It's a very relaxed atmosphere there and the food is delicious. So for me this would be the perfect place to take him for a perfect dinner.
What is your proudest moment? Definitely the birth of my daughter. She is going to Brighton University this year and I will miss her so much.
Being in Beauty for so long, what's the best treatment you can recommend? Well, this must be the new cold laser system called Hialuronic Anti-Aging Laser. It's a revolutionary new system that restores the elasticity of your skin. It's the IT beauty treatment for celebrities.
Tell us something people don't know about you…

FLAVOUR of the MONTH Gusto – Bar and Restaurant in Heswall The word Gusto comes from latin and means just simply: taste. And if you enjoy a meal in this trendy Heswall based restaurant you know that this is just the perfect name for the place. Since they opened a few years ago Joe Hull , Manager of Gusto in Heswall, quickly established it as the place to chill out, meet friends and and enjoy food and drink in a relaxed yet elegant and vibrant atmosphere. Olive trees with sparkling fairy lights inside just gives it a special touch for evening diners and a welcoming bar area plus a spacious terrace with comfortable seats offer you the choice of having just a drink (we can recommend the bar staff as they just prepare the perfect Cosmopolitan!!!) or even a quick cappuccino outside if you just want to stop for a chat with your friend.
Gusto also offers a very reasonable one course lunch for just 8.95 pounds including a glass of wine or bottle of beer. The service from the whole team is outstanding so, this gives us enough reason to select Gusto in Heswall as our „flavour of the Month“ (GUSTO, Telegraph Road Heswall, 0151 348 4538) Please note that any restaurant voted by our team as flavour of the month automatically will be nominated for the prestigious Lifestyle Awards 2011, which will take place in Spring 2011 at the Adelphi Hotel in Liverpool.

I used to be a Playboy Bunny years ago when they use to have the casinos in England. There is something sexy about putting on a corset and a pair of ears for work. Ha, ha!!
SPA of the MONTH FACE Your Beauty, Heswall
The Nuffield Health Team (left) and Rugby Mum’s (right) at the Fashion Show.
The reason why we chose this special little gem-spa in the middle of Heswall is easy: customer care is not only a printed word in a brochure – at FACE your Beauty it's lived and practised by every member of this highly trained beauty team.
Red Cross Ball
“FACE your Beauty” offers a wide range of latest beauty treatments including the fabulous Hialurox, Cold Laser System, which recently hit the celeb market in a storm and is just the anti-aging treatment to have. Hialurox, with its filler effect lifts wrinkles, restores the skin and shows brilliant results for facial (or body) rejuvenation. As it's a cold laser system, the 2hour facial is absolutely painfree, actually very relaxing and comforting, leaving your skin not only refreshed and glowing just after one treatment but also shows immediate effects in terms of scaring, wrinkle reduction and elasticity of the skin. Recently just available with injections this new cold laser technique is in our opinion the only painfree and most spectacular alternative to surgery and injections.
The British Red Cross Ball 2010 …don't miss it as only a few tickets are left. It will be held at the Hillbark Hotel&Spa, November 20th 2010. Lifestyle Monthly has been involved in this spectacular event since the first ball was held here on the Wirral back in 2008. Rumour has it that this year’s event will be even bigger and more spectacular. Call the British Red Cross on 0151

the Merseyside Law Firm With a Difference Founded in 1974, Liverpool-based law firm EAD Solicitors has built a national reputation while challenging many of the stereotypes associated with the legal profession and solicitors. Its solicitors are highly qualified, skilled professionals who pride themselves on being friendly and approachable – ‘real’ people who want to make their clients feel comfortable. EAD is known for specialising in legal areas geared towards serving ordinary people, whether they need standard legal services such as conveyancing or wills and probate or find themselves in an extraordinary situation involving personal injury, employment, medical negligence or criminal charges. The firm is particularly highly regarded for its expertise in personal injury litigation and employment law and has specialist solicitors backed by the Legal Services Commission Quality Assurance Mark for dealing with Medical Negligence, and Fraud and Criminal Law, all endorsements of excellence. As one of Liverpool’s best established law firms, EAD has modern approach and a lot to say. Law firms are generally very traditional and are typically late adopters in getting to grips with new communication tools. Here EAD is leading the way by investing in creating an online presence through social media such as Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn to be that little bit more accessible.
For further details contact us on EAD has recently expanded with the addition of a new Huddersfield office, extending its reach to the east and west of the Pennines and into Manchester – a positive move that supports the firm’s considerable reputation for handling union work. EAD has always been closely linked with the trade union movement and is proud to remain one of the main legal service providers for a number of major unions in the UK. To most people legal issues are confusing, often intimidating, and EAD Solicitors has a strong belief that its clients deserve sound advice and the best representation from solicitors they can trust, talking a language they’ll understand. As EAD put it: “When you need us, we’re here to help!”

NO MORE HIPS WHAT NEXT? Liverpool based law firm EAD Solicitors answer your legal questions... What are the changes in the law with the recent suspension of Home Information Packs? The government has suspended Home Information Packs (HIPs) with immediate effect, with the most likely outcome being their permanent abolition in coming weeks. However, the guidelines available at the time of going to print state that it will still be necessary for sellers to provide an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) for their home, although they can put their house on the market before this has been produced as long as they have commissioned the report.
How does this affect buyers/sellers? The government’s aim is to cut down red tape and the cost of selling in order to stimulate the housing market - the cost of an EPC is significantly less than the cost of a full HIP. For sellers, the process of putting your house on the market should be quicker and cheaper as a result. As far as buyers are concerned, energy efficiency information on a property that has just gone onto the market may not be available immediately but should be available shortly after.
What services does EAD Solicitors offer? Our comprehensive conveyancing service covers sales, purchases, remortgages, auction sales and purchases, transfers of equity, shared ownership schemes, equity release and lifetime mortgages as well as leasing residential properties. Working closely with estate agents, brokers, mortgage lenders and other financial institutions, we use the latest information technology to speed up the legal process. From the moment an offer is made or accepted, we guide clients through what is a complicated, sometimes drawn out process to make it as easy and painless as possible. Once engaged, we keep clients fully informed at all stages whilst carrying out the legal work needed to transfer ownership, from draft contract preparation and local searches to liaising with the mortgage lender and exchanging and completing contracts. Our highly regarded commercial property team handles a wide range of transactions for both large and small companies as well as private individuals. These include building, buying, selling, leasing or sub-letting shops, offices, industrial and commercial premises. With over 100 years’ experience between them, our conveyancing and commercial property solicitors offer a vast amount of expertise and pride themselves on offering the highest levels of direct personal service.
