Top Wedding Stationery Trends
With a fresh emphasis on all the events surrounding the wedding ceremony, there is an increasing opportunity to use invitations to set individualized tones for all of these celebrations so they feel related but distinct. Couples are increasingly using their stationery choices to convey what is important to them beyond the big day: whether that is the sustainability of using digital invitations, a sense of humor humor with the wording, or setting a non-traditional tone with help from our personal design service.

We'll see shades of earthy pink, mustard, jade and mint creeping more and more into the couples' colour palettes. Texturally, it'll go two ways: rougher, more obviously handmade textures, or super-clean and modern lines. Couples will continue to embrace a bolder and more style-led look in their stationery. I think we are also seeing a stronger than ever push towards uniqueness and individuality, which will be reflected both in the style of invitations chosen, and also in the language used within the invites. Classic serif fonts such as Bodoni are having something of a renaissance, particularly when used to highlight key element s.

The stationery trends we are predicting are less about specific colors or themes and more a reflection of broader shifts in how couples are approaching their wedding. We see a move toward more personalization and thoughtful details over specific of- t hemoment t rends.

- As media coverage of same-sex weddings grows, so will awareness of the relative freedom from tradition that LGBTQ+ couples experience. This means the end of "tradition-for-its -own-sake" throughout weddings. In stationery, that means even more adventurous and uncommon wordings and entirely new formats and materials in invitations.
- Couples are becoming more aware of the patriarchal roots of so many wedding customs. 2020 will be a pivotal year of transition, not only for invitation wording, but specifically for addressing invitations. The standards ways of addressing advocated by etiquette experts simply don't reflect many of the households couples are inviting to their weddings. At the same time, many family members will cling to tradition and expect more standard formats. This will require great care from couples and be one of the more involved parts of wedding planning, not just st at ionery design.
- 2020 will be the year of contrasts. As wedding design continues its evolution away from matching *everything*, we're moving through deep cohesiveness into the ability to combine disparate elements in ways that feel fresh and related. As long as it's all from the same universe, anyt hing goes.
- Invitations will be interactive and have multiple touchpoints. As couples invest in creating memorable experiences for their guests, they'll employ the tactics of great brands to create dopamine-inducing unboxing experiences for t heir friends and family.

We predict a move away from overtly feminine color palettes, and we think we'll see pops of bright and saturated colors and subtle nature-inspired palettes in 2020. We predict sophisticated color combinations, like those in our collaboration with Lisa Hedge of Venamour, who uses pairings like carnation pink and brick, lilac and terracotta, and tonal sage and forest green.

We'll see three colour combinations reigning supreme: earthy pink and mustard tones; deep asure blues paired with electric blue and glacier shades; mint and white with a modern twist.

1. Mint - Cool and fresh, mint is a colour sure to make a big impact in 2020. In harmony with the colours of nature it is like a breath of fresh air and optimism at a time when our trees and plant life are under threat. This gender-neutral colour is the perfect pastel.
2. Cassis - A deep rich shade that oozes elegance and glamour, cassis and berry shades are colours that really stand out - reminiscent of royalty and all that is luxury and opulence.
