EDITOR’SNOTE
It’s hard to believe that this is already our last edition for the year.
May these pages offer a source of inspiration and solace in your time of undoing and silence, helping you to make the necessary internal space to receive everything and everyone again with gratitude and joy in 2023.
I encourage you to take advantage of the year-end break to spend some time consciously untethering and lifting the siege, allowing yourself to celebrate the successes and mourn the losses of the year before you are beckoned by yet another horizon and the need to start again, many times over.

It’s rare to find a truly innovative skincare product these days. Just when I thought I’d seen it all, I discovered minimalist range of microbiome skincare products. While I started using the range for novelty’s sake, I am absolutely going to continue – for the sake of my now dewy, vibrantly healthy skin.

As always, thank you for your continued support. We are grateful that we are here to serve you, and we are looking forward to helping you to live life well for many years to come.
For the last four years, Simon Alston has guided us through difficult circumstances and championed our mission, which has led to the recent opening of our 50th store, and firmly established our leadership role in the South African preventative healthcare space. I am grateful for his ongoing friendship and support.

We need to ensure that we have a sustainable foundation from which to grow and deliver on our mission as we look to expand our store footprint. A few fundamental changes to this end in the near term include the introduction of a new loyalty tool which will help us to better engage with our Live Life Well Rewards members; the launch of the How Can We Help? campaign, which sees us offering online health consulting for the first time; the renovation of our flagship store based in the Lifestyle on Kloof Centre in Cape Town; and our recent office move, which has finally brought our team together under one roof.
Despite these changes, we will continue to strive to be the choice destination for preventative healthcare solutions. In terms of how we present ourselves, we will need to be collaborative, participative, engaged, and intimately know and meet your needs.
It is therefore fitting that, with the arrival of spring, we receive an invitation to start fresh and take the next step on our collective journey to wellness. As we start the final quarter of the year, we invite you to nurture your own and each other’s growth by embracing a fresh start. I am energised by what the future holds.
FROM OUR CEO
I am truly humbled by this awesome opportunity - a responsibility that I do not take lightly. For more than 15 years, our team has set out to fulfil our mission, which is to be the leading independent health and wellness retailer and empower holistic personal journeys to natural wellbeing. This simple and compelling mission has guided our team to create the platform that we have today to help empower each other and you, our customers, who we serve every day. To lead such a business and its people is incredibly inspiring, and a tremendous privilege. Our business is about people ― talented, engaged, and innovative people who are passionate about delivering expert advice and finding innovative health solutions for you.

almost like a rebirth. I was guided by a coach, Kheyrne Danu, who helped me understand PCOS, my hormones, and how my body works. We started with a candida cleanse, followed by a lower carb diet for a year to reset my body and hormones, which I saw the benefits of three months in.
After my struggle with PCOS, I am proud to say that I delivered my daughter at home with a private midwife and doula with absolutely no interventions. It was important
to me to have the healthiest, most empowered birth experience. I wanted to be respected and heard, and able to drop into a place of true vulnerability, which I knew would be key to having a safe and healthy birth. I didn’t feel like I would get that in a hospital. I was also aware of the importance of a vaginal birth for my daughter, as the microbiome plays such a huge role in our immunity and genetic expressions.
I grew up in an Indian household where morning prayers/meditation were important, but there wasn’t much else I was exposed to in terms of wellness growing up (besides exercising and enjoying nature).
My personal wellness allows me to be a more conscious human, positively impacting all areas of my life. It’s given me the tools to raise my daughter in a holistic way, which is probably the thing I’m most proud of, because I know I’m giving her the best possible foundation to truly thrive for the rest of her life. But I’m only human, and my journey hasn’t been perfect...
I’m passionate about inspiring other women to start or elevate their wellness journeys. I explore this topic on my Instagram, and will be doing so on my new podcast, Chat and Chai with Carishma. My goal for this podcast is to help feed the hunger for knowledge that I know so many women have. Chat and Chai is for curious women who are ready to question tradition and step into a new territory of sisterhood - a community that exposes women to different paths and answers the hard questions that so many of us are afraid to ask.

It was when I met my husband 13 years ago that my curiosity about wellness began to truly grow. His family has a deep understanding of and connection to nature. Having sailed the world until he was 22, they naturally gravitated towards living off the land, choosing foods that were more accessible to them. They also taught me a lot about using homeopathic medicines and essential oils as a more natural way of Whenhealing.Idecided
I’ve fallen into the trap of becoming too obsessive about eating a certain way, so this is something I consciously check in with myself about. Plus, life happens and we’re not always able to buy organic, avoid certain foods (life’s too short to skip the cake!), or have time to meditateand that’s ok. It’s about consciously creating a wellness journey that’s sustainable and enjoyable.
Nourishing myself means a lot of quiet time and time in nature. It’s not easy to carve this out with a two-year-old! But I do make it a

First off, what is gluten?
It is made of two smaller proteins called glutenin and gliadin. In foods, gluten has a variety of functional benefits, giving many grain-based foods their soft and chewy texture. Despite sharing many of the goals of organic farming, regenerative farming goes beyond the replacement of chemical inputs and enhancement of microbial diversity to replicate and cooperate with nature rather than work against it.
We know that good soil generates healthy food , and a holistic, ecosystem-based strategy uses the principles and techniques of regenerative agriculture to increase the resilience, yield, and quality of farms, leading to a more sustainable and resilient agricultural system – which is something we are in dire need of.
Unfortunately, ‘sustainable’ is no longer a sufficient definition. All agriculture that does not build soil biology and reinstate natural mineral and water cycles can be seen as destructive. Given the dire condition of soil worldwide, we can no longer simply sustain – we need to regenerate .
6. Integrating livestock
5. Maintaining living roots year-round
Switching to regenerative agricultural methods minimises carbon emissions, promotes biodiversity, protects the soil , and ensures agricultural sustainability
There are six core principles of regenerative agriculture:

2. Minimising soil disturbance
A great example of a South African company making progress in this respect is Grounded (grounded.co.za), which aims to support farmers in their transition to regenerative agriculture. They have partnered with the Peace Parks Foundation to create a commercially practical regenerative farm in the Simalaha Conservancy of remote Zambia, a region faced with the multiple challenges of human/ wildlife conflict, habitat destruction, climate change, a culture of unsustainable farming methods, and complex tribal land ownership. As of April this year, the initial Grounded plots are producing a good crop of vegetables, which they have begun to pick and analyse with the neighbourhood market and sellers while sowing their first season of onions.
How can you get involved? It’s simple – by taking the time to find out where the food you buy comes from and switching to conscious choices wherever possible, you can do your part in supporting the regeneration of our soil, the planet, and your health.

bacteria, viruses, parasites, or chemical substances entering the body through contaminated food).
The heat of summer in South Africa means that food is more sensitive and quicker to spoil, bringing about bugs, flies, and bacteria, and resulting in food poisoning or foodborne illnesses.
According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), an estimated 600 million - almost 1 in 10 - people around the world fall ill after eating contaminated food, and 420 000 die each year, resulting in the loss of 33 million healthy life years. The Food Advisory Consumer Service (FACS) states that food poisoning is a notifiable disease in South Africa, but that the surveillance system is not effective, as only a few hundred cases a year are reported, whereas the actual incidences are more likely to be in the region of hundreds of thousands.
The normal causes of food poisoning are bacteria and viruses. The usual offenders are:
My own recent encounter with food poisoning stole about four weeks of my well-being and productivity. I ate some prepared chicken from a food establishment, which left me with a severe infection that I thought would last for a day or two. In spite of the interventions I took, which included activated charcoal to remove the toxins, ginger for the nausea, kefir for the probiotic replenishment, electrolytes for rehydration, and avoiding irritants, the symptoms of nausea, diarrhea, gas, and abdominal pain lingered longer than expected. A lack of appetite and fear of eating is one of the symptoms, and left me viewing food as the enemy.
As it turns out, nutrition was in fact the antidote. I switched to healing foods, including bone broth and soothing peppermint tea. I also added a potent treatment probiotic - saccharomyces boulardii, which can be great for combatting stomach upset, stimulating the immune system, and providing antimicrobial properties.
• Listeria , which can occur in unpasteurised dairy products and some ready-to-eat foods, and grow at refrigeration temperatures
SYMPTOMS OF FOOD POISONING
• E-coli , which is associated with unpasteurised milk, undercooked meat, and contaminated fresh fruit and veg
• Campylobacter bacteria , caused by raw milk, raw and undercooked poultry, and drinking water
• The Norovirus , a common cause of food infections
CAUSES OF FOOD POISONING
• Salmonella found in eggs, poultry, and other products of animal origin
Both the virus and bacteria cause symptoms of nausea , vomiting , diarrhea and abdominal pain Diarrhea and vomiting cause a loss of electrolytes, which can lead to further complications in the cardiovascular system and affect the heart and brain. Food poisoning can develop rapidly - within six hours – and worsen over a few days. The symptoms can last from a few hours up to eight weeks, in some cases. The impact can range from mild to severe, sometimes leading to long-lasting disability and death.
A Personal Experience
Rice food poisoning is also prevalent, and can be serious. It is ideal to serve rice as soon as you have cooked it. For storage, it must be cooled quickly, stored in the fridge, and reheated - preferably within a day. If frozen, it can last much longer, but ensure that it is reheated correctly and piping hot. It is safe to eat the rice cold, as long as it has been cooled and stored correctly. Do not leave reheated rice sitting on the counter, and do not reheat more than once. Take care when having rice or risotto at buffets, which can be breeding grounds for food poisoning.

Your risk of food poisoning increases with food left out at room temperature, rather than stored in the fridge. Refrigerate food within an hour of purchase (especially fish and dairy), and make sure that the temperature of the fridge is below 5 °C. Acquaint yourself with your fridge’s settings, and keep raw meat in the coldest section (usually at the bottom). Leftovers should be refrigerated at 4°C or colder, within two hours after preparation.
Ordering In
When handling raw meat, chicken, and seafood, ensure that it is separated from other food, refrigerate it before cooking or braaing, and ensure that the juices do not touch other food, utensils, or surfaces. Once cooked, keep the hot food hot, and the cold food cold. Refrigerate the leftovers within two hours and - when reheating - ensure that the meat is warmed right through.
Meat and dairy are always seen as the culprits, but fruit and vegetables are guilty of a number of food poisoning outbreaks, too - particularly lettuce, spinach, cabbage, celery, bell peppers, and tomatoes. Leafy greens are also susceptible to contamination with harmful bacteria such as E. coli, salmonella, and listeria. Be sure to rinse all your fresh produce thoroughly, especially if you intend to eat it raw.

Cook your food thoroughly. It’s crucial to cook meat or seafood properly and to keep raw meat, fish, and seafood away from other food being served. The rule of thumb is to wash and sanitise your hands consistently, and to keep cooking surfaces and utensils clean. We are emerging from the pandemic era; this is common practice for all. Undercooked or raw meat can contain harmful germs like campylobacter, salmonella, and E-coli. If you are working with large portions of meat and aren’t sure whether meat is cooked through, a thermometer may come in handy to check the temperature.
Enjoy the season, practise food safety daily, and work with your food to safeguard your digestive system.

FOR PREVENTING FOOD POISONING
Delivered restaurant meals should be eaten right away or refrigerated if they contain a cooked or cold product such as a salad of freshly cut fruit. BLOOD SUGAR MANAGEMENT
Pillars Wellbeingof
Millions of people who have prediabetes, diabetes and metabolic syndrome find that maintaining normal blood sugar levels can be challenging. Over the past few decades, these chronic disorders have reached epidemic proportions, causing serious - often preventable - side effects, like nerve damage, fatigue, loss of vision, arterial damage and weight gain. In extreme cases, elevated blood sugar can even contribute to strokes, amputations, coma and death in people with a history of insulin resistance. Even for those who aren’t necessarily at a high risk of developing diabetes or heart complications, poorly managed blood sugar can lead to common complications, including fatigue, weight gain, and sugar cravings. The good news is that normal blood sugar levels can be sustained through a combination of eating a balanced, low-processed diet, getting regular exercise, and managing the body’s most important hormones in other ways (such as by getting enough sleep, reducing stress, and taking the right supplements).

GUT HEALTH
The importance of our gut microbiome cannot be overstated! The health of our gut impacts every other part of the body - even the brain. When working correctly, our gut digests our food and absorbs nutrients so that we can enjoy adequate energy and vitality. It eliminates toxins and fights pathogens. It’s also home to trillions of microorganisms that aid in these processes, and do so much morelike manage inflammation and produce neurotransmitters that help us feel good. Poor gut health can contribute to leaky gut syndrome, allergies, low energy, and autoimmune diseases and disorders like arthritis, dementia, heart disease, and cancer. The foods we eat, how we sleep, the amount of bacteria we’re exposed to on a daily basis, and the level of stress we experience all contribute to the state of our intestinal health.

INFLAMMATION SOLUTIONS
When the immune system is weak, we are prone to falling ill from every infectious disease making the rounds. Wounds might become infected easily, and complications may arise after minor surgeries. Conversely, if the immune system is constantly on high alert, auto-immune diseases such as lupus, multiple sclerosis, fibromyalgia, rheumatoid arthritis, type 1 diabetes and Hashimoto’s thyroiditis may develop. Ideally, your system should be balanced and agile. It is possible to modulate and support this important function in the body through sound nutrition, adequate sleep, stress management, and supplementation, where necessary
HORMONAL HEALTH
Whether you suffer from PMS, perimenopausal symptoms such as hot flushes and night sweats or prostate and erectile dysfunction, the usual inclination is to zoom in on specific symptoms or single out hormones such as estrogen or testosterone. It is important to remember that our hormones do not exist in a vacuum, and because of the interrelationships between them, it is crucial to treat multiple symptoms, glands and systems at the same time. This way, you will get better and faster results, especially with conditions related to thyroid, adrenal, and sex hormones. We achieve this by always starting with nutrition and lifestyle adjustments – these lead to largescale changes and address the entire endocrine system at once If further support is needed, consider plant medicines, which can be wonderful allies in bringing us back to wholeness. Our approach should always be holistic – consciously and mindfully working with the wisdom of the body is key.
SLEEP HYGIENE
Achieving healthy sleep is important for both physical and mental health, improving our productivity and overall quality of life. Sleeping well ensures a robust immune system and a sharper memory, and can even help us to shed excess weight more easily. Good sleep hygiene is all about putting yourself in the best position to sleep well each and every night. Optimising your sleep schedule, establishing a pre-bed routine, committing to a healthy daily routine and setting up an ideal sleep environment are all ways to calm a busy mind, prepare the body for sleep, and improve both the quality and quantity of your shut-eye

Inflammation is part of the body’s inherent immune response, and it isn’t always bad. When it’s acute and not dangerous, it’s the body’s natural defence against damaged cells, viruses and bacteria. It aims to remove these harmful or foreign invaders and heal itself. Without inflammation, wounds would just fester and infections could be deadly. While acute inflammation starts quickly and generally disappears in a few days, inflammation can last for months or years as a result of failure to eliminate the cause

CLEANSING & DETOXIFICATION
Our bodies are continually detoxifying. Our organs of filtration and elimination include the liver, lungs, kidneys, colon, and skin. Unfortunately, we are bombarded with toxins on a daily basis - from the food we eat, the water we drink, and the air we breathe to the body care and home cleaning products we use. Our entire environment has become extremely polluted, and the cumulative burden is overwhelming our detoxification systems Many nervous system and endocrine disorders can be attributed to environmental toxins. Assist the body’s efforts by removing toxins and allergens such as wheat and dairy, as well as refined foods, caffeine, and alcohol from your diet. Eat five to 10 cups of fresh fruit and vegetables a day to add fibre and protective phytonutrients. Get your daily dose of antioxidants from colourful fruit and vegetables, leafy greens, berries and cruciferous veggies, as well as green tea. This gentle, slow and natural detox will protect the liver and the kidneys.
Stress isn’t just a feeling — it’s a whole system of physical reactions that are supposed to keep you safe from imminent danger. These reactions protect you when you’re facing immediate, temporary threats (like avoiding a car crash or being chased by an angry dog). Their sole purpose is to help you survive by stimulating your ‘fight or flight’ nervous system. When the danger passes, the system turns off and resets. But when you face stressors all the time (think work deadlines, traffic jams, bad news, the list goes on), the system can’t turn off. It stays on ready alert around the clock, and never gets to stand down. That’s when ‘survival mode’ transforms into a threat of its own. Constant stress knocks your whole body off track, causing physical, mental, and emotional distress. Unrelenting stress causes hormonal and blood sugar imbalances and body-wide inflammation. It may lead to anxiety, high blood pressure, heart disease, suppression of the immune system, and impaired mental health. Learning how to manage stress well is one of the most effective ways of dealing with most chronic diseases , as it has such a significant impact on immunity and inflammation.

While we’re all aware of the many health hazards of alcohol over-indulgence, it can carry even more risks in hot weather, as it has a diuretic effect that can lead to dehydration. It is thus more potent and pure, and can be prescribed in accurate doses, depending on your condition and its severity, as well as on your medical history and body specifications.

In which forms can medical cannabis be taken?
With over 100 000 medicinal cannabis patients seen to date at Cannabis Clinics alone, and with multiple trials conducted, the treatment should not only be effective, but as safe as other medicine prescribed by your doctor.
For more information about Cannabis Clinics and to learn how they could assist you, email info@cannabisclinics.co.za.
Most solutions do not contain THC, and - depending on the condition for which you are seeking help - it is likely that your doctor will prescribe a non-psychoactive treatment. Additionally, there is a very low risk of addiction, as the dosage prescribed is made specifically to meet your needs.

How do you know if you are eligible for medical cannabis, and what questions should you be asking your doctor?
Is it safe?
How much does medicinal cannabis cost?
Is there a possibility of getting high or becoming addicted?
Firstly, you should find out whether medical cannabis can be used to treat your specific condition, and whether it could affect the effectiveness of your other medications. If all is in order, your doctor or healthcare professional will assist you in finding a solution and regime that’s best suited for you, and getting approval from the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) and the South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA). After this, they can issue you a prescription which you can take to a dispenser/clinic, or have delivered by Cannabis Clinics.
Where are medical cannabis solutions created?
Many medical cannabis solutions are imported, but some are grown and made locally. They are also created in a similar vein to other pharmaceuticals - in a laboratory.
A consultation at Cannabis Clinics, in person or online, starts at R300, and the different products range between R40 and R200 per day, depending on the ratio and quantity of THC and CBD. Both costs could be covered by your medical aid provider.

Menopause. It doesn’t sound very glamourous. And the truth is, many women don’t really think about it until we start to experience it, and then we wish we knew more.

The decline in our female hormones (estrogen, progesterone, and sometimes testosterone) has a huge impact on how we function and feel. Hormones have to be balanced for us to feel good. Unfortunately, many women suffer from menopausal symptoms (there are over 40!) for months - or even yearsbecause their hormones are out of balance.
The good news is that it doesn’t have to be this way, if we have the knowledge and support we deserve.

Looking after our bone, heart, and brain health is so important for menopausal women . By changing my diet, managing my stress, and balancing my hormones, I began to feel like myself again.
The more we talk about menopause, the more knowledge women will have to transition into this next phase of life with confidence and ease. And when a woman feels confident and in control, there are no limits to what she can achieve.
I went through early menopause at 41, and for months I didn’t understand what was happening. I felt incredibly tired ; my mood was on a constant rollercoaster; I couldn’t focus ; and I was putting on weight , without eating differently. Like many women, I hadn’t heard of perimenopause. Include things like black cohosh for hot flushes; calcium and vitamin D for bone health; ginseng to support your energy; St John’s Wort to bolster your mood; and DHEA for healthy ageing.
Being overweight can intensify existing menopause symptoms, as well as cause new challenges like depression, heart problems, and increased risk of breast cancer.
2. Avoid or reduce alcohol, caffeine, sugar, and hot or spicy foods. These can exacerbate hot flashes.
This can assist in alleviating many menopausal symptoms, most significantly low mood and fatigue.

Changing the Sports Nutrition Game
They offer honest, naturally sourced , and premium lifestyle nutrition to their customers, with a strong focus on gut health
As a brand, PI does not sell products that make unrealistic claims or contain unproven ingredients. In fact, it is regulated by the South African Health Products Regulatory Authority, which means that all formulations are safe to use, and all claims are medically proven. As part of being an honest brand, they also only publish genuine reviews from customers.
As a result, a percentage of all profits generated are donated to charities. Additionally, all of the products are locally manufactured in South Africa.
Additionally, gut health is paramount. In fact, Luke Anthony, a director of the brand for South Africa, made the following discovery on his own health journey:
Performance Inspired (PI) was created to make a genuine difference to the well-being of people - not with marketing jargon, but with robust products that are created by professional athletes , without the over-hyped claims or unproven ingredients.
The products are aimed to benefit both health enthusiasts and professional athletes. With so many supplement brands on the market, though, what is it that actually makes PI so different?
The aim is to provide customers with products that have more than just one or two benefits. Rather than needing to purchase a whole range of products, customers can enjoy multiple uses in each PI formulation.
”I have suffered with serious gut issues, including IBS, for years. I’ve tried almost every supplement brand out there, and none agreed with my stomach. I then did extensive research and finally found Performance Inspired – with its key focus on gut health - abroad. After trying out the products, for the first time in my life, I found something that both tasted great and agreed with my gut! Many of our current customers have had the same experience when using our products. There are no bloating or digestive issues.”
If you want to make a real difference in your health and well-being, Performance Inspired is here to provide you with all the healthy, naturally sourced and premium products you need to support you in reaching your fitness and health goals.
PI products all have naturally sourced flavours, colourants, and sweeteners. Customer reviews almost always include reference to their ‘amazing’ and ‘delicious’ taste.
Premium Lifestyle Nutrition
Honest
Product formulations include high-quality and naturally sourced ingredients with generous servings. Not only do they seek to provide customers with the best products, they also want to make a positive social impact in the community. One of the founding pillars of PI is assisting more people to enjoy a better quality of life through the funding of charity programs.

Shift Your Focus
When we reach a certain age, there seems to be a societal expectation that we need to start slowing down and expecting less of ourselves Accordingphysically. to fitness and nutrition expert Morne Augustyn , this needn’t be the case!
It is by following his own meal plan and these principles that Morne has been able to perfect his bone density and water balance, and enjoy a metabolic age of 34 at his chronological age of 50.
By Abigail Baker
Fifty, Fit & Fabulous
The first thing Morne advises his clients over 50 to do is to consult their doctors to have everything from their testosterone levels to nutrient deficiencies checked. This can help to ensure that they are taking the right steps for their unique health journeys and needs, complementing their diet and exercise routines with supplementation and further medical support where necessary.

Addressing current or potential health concerns by improving your immune system and creating physical and mental resilience is more important than focusing on aesthetics and appearance later in life, asserts Morne.
• Weight training for 20 - 30 minutes 4 - 5 times a week
• 10 minutes of brisk walking 3 - 4 times a week
Exercisers in this age group should ideally also include some low-impact cardio , like going for a brisk walk; doing resistance band exercises; and practising a bit of yoga for core stability.
• Nature walks every weekend
Morne recommends that both men and women in their 50s focus on weight training , with light weights. This type of activity will help to increase vitality, keep hormone levels balanced, and optimise metabolism.
Stretch it Out
In order to avoid injury, Morne stresses the importance of stretching. He suggests including some dynamic stretching before training, as this helps to lubricate the joints and prepares the muscles for exercise. He also suggests that his clients make time for some static stretching before bed.
Example of an ideal workout routine:

Ten-step skincare routines are out, and skinimalism is in! Consumers are actively seeking skincare products that are sustainable and multifunctional, and it could not have come at a better time for us all.
Time is money, and multi-step routines are not practical as they are both timeconsuming and expensive. Having a simplified skincare routine makes it easier to remain consistent.

Over-use of chemical-laden products can lead to a weakened or damaged skin barrier, causing dryness, irritation, and sensitivity. Using too many - or the wrong - products can aggravate pre-existing skin conditions, like acne, eczema, and psoriasis. Thanks to skinimalism, consumers can keep their daily beauty routines as simple and clean as possible, finding just one or two products - with gentle and safe ingredients - that are perfect for their unique skin types.
It’s time to simplify your skincare routine by including only the most essential products while continuing to see the same results . It’s better for your skin, the environment, and your wallet!
In addition to offering fewer, multipurpose products, conscious brands are also focusing more on natural, sustainably-sourced ingredients and chemical-free manufacturing processes. They’re also including recycled, recyclable, or reusable packaging wherever possible. Ensuring that products are ethically sourced and fairly traded is also an important part of the growing movement.
Once your skin has repaired itself, you can begin to gradually reintroduce products into your skincare routine. It is advisable to try one new item at a time . Remember to keep the central tenet of skinimalism front of mind: healthy skin does not require a lot of products . At the end of the day, skinimalism promotes using products that will benefit your skin rather than focusing on covering up every blemish and imperfection you see
The good news for all you skincare junkies out there is that you don’t have to throw out all your lotions and potions immediately! Why not finish what you’ve got, and then give your skin a little breathing space to do some self-repairing before starting to rebuild your simpler, cleaner regime? Dermatologists suggest adopting an ‘elimination diet’ for your skin , recommending that you only use the necessary products: cleanser, moisturiser, and sunscreen . This allows the skin to regenerate after being exposed to too many active

Like the origin story of so many startups, Zero BS had its genesis in someone trying to solve a problem of their own. Warren Wilensky had an itch that needed scratching. An avid chef, he had heard about the benefits of tallow, not only in cooking but in traditional healing. Over time, he developed a non-chemical, non-steroid treatment for his daughter’s skin condition in the kitchen. To portray themselves as a viable and sustainable option, products and campaigns that use ‘greenwashing’ as a dishonest sales strategy use lofty and meaningless rhetoric and images. ‘All-natural’, ‘eco-friendly’, and even ‘farm-fresh’ are just some of the descriptors that have been widely misappropriated.

The answer is, quite sadly, the opposite.
When a business presents itself as environmentally sensitive for marketing purposes but isn’t taking any significant sustainability measures in reality, this is known as greenwashing. Even businesses with the best initial intentions can end up engaging in greenwashing to some degree. Unfortunately, thanks to clever marketing strategies, most of us end up simply trusting the claims we read without any further questioning.

When I started on this journey myself, a dear friend sent me an Excel sheet with everything I may need as a new parent. While it felt like a life saver at the time, when I opened it up again during my second pregnancy, I found that I could easily delete half of it. It’s actually astounding how little you need for a new-born baby…but if you’ve never been there, how will you know what you really need?

ou’re pregnant – congratulations! It’s time to start accumulating way too many things that you will never use…
Most babies love to be swaddled, and I used the Love to Dream zip-up suit. It helped my babies to feel secure and sleep longer, as they weren’t woken by the Moro reflex. Babies can be swaddled until they learn to roll over, and then transition to a sleep suit that allows for their arms to be free.
Wraps are great for younger babies (I used Noonoo Pie). Carriers (I used Ubuntu Baba and Baby Bjorn) are better as your little ones get a bit older. My second born literally lives in his carrier while we run after his older sister.
Whether you are breastfeeding or bottle feeding, you will be spending many hours in this chair - so make sure that you are nice and comfortable in it.
Night lights are great in the new-born days, as you will be waking up several times a night to feed. It’s best to keep the environment dark so that your baby stays sleepy. I used a Himalayan salt lamp, and loved its soothing pink glow. This later became the night light in my toddlers’ room.

Where do people think your one-month-old is running off to? I found that these always fell off, anyway. Remember - for the first few months, your baby will literally be in a onesie all the time, and won’t need socks. Rather buy a couple of pairs of bigger socks to last longer.

Our human experience is a product of both biochemical processes inside our bodies and deep-level subconscious evaluations in our minds. The good news is that we hold the power to actively impact these processes through mindful life choices . Connecting with nature grounds our bodies on a biological level, calms our nervous systems, and rewires our brains.
Relaxation achieved through hypnotherapy allows us to access deeply-seeded information about our belief systems, and gives us clarity about our negative self-talk.
Numerous neuroscientific studies have shown that our brains are plastic and can literally grow new neural connections (neuroplasticity). Mind engineering techniques like neurodefinitions, neuro-associations and neuro-linguistic programming can help us to unlock unlimited potential and self-control in our lives by actively improving the quality of our language and adopting a mindful life design.

Is Integration the New Balance?
84 \\ WWW.WELLNESSWAREHOUSE.COM WISDOM
By Imaan Davids
Work-life integration, on the other hand, centres around the idea that there is little to no separation between our personal and professional selves, and that our work and free time should complementrather than compete with - each other.
The concept of work-life balance has traditionally focused on keeping our work and personal lives separate, and trying to maintain a sense of equality between the two.
When wanting to uphold a worklife balance, we try to meet the demands of our careers and personal lives equally by creating firm boundaries between them, with strictly appointed working hours, around which we feel free to do anything in our private Ourcapacities.personal and professional lives exist alongside one another in this framework, but we view them as separate entities, which flourish independently of each other.
You may, for example, want to complete your work one evening so that you can attend an appointment in the morning, or feel grateful and happy to be working on a Saturday morning, as you know that the remuneration will enable you to enjoy many weekends to come with your family and Havingfriends.theopportunity to coordinate our schedules according to our ever-changing responsibilities can help us to feel more empowered and in control, especially during busy times.
What does an ideal week look like for you? Prioritise your responsibilities accordingly, and use this hierarchy to create a schedule that incorporates every aspect of your life. Once you’ve committed to allocating your time to your priorities, remember to honour your commitments, and to always communicate how you plan to proceed with those you work with, as well as your loved ones - as their cooperation will be essential to the process.

Different for each individual, this approach allows us to assess which areas of our lives need more attention in any given moment. It also recognises that our personal and work lives can, in fact, enrich one another.

For years, I’d known that my diet was deteriorating and sabotaging my attempts to lose weight. Yet I kept doing the same thing over and over, which was to continue eating unhealthily. I justified this by training at the gym five to six times a week. In this fascinating novel, protagonist Esme’s father is one of the men tasked with compiling the Oxford English Dictionary. Esme discovers that a word has been excluded - ‘bondmaid’, which refers to a young woman who is bound to serve until her death. She goes on to find a host of other discarded words, which she uses to create her own manuscript - Women’s Words, and their Meanings . Central to the book is the question of whether words mean different things to men and women and - if they do - what is lost in the process of defining them.
